The holiday season is a wonderful time for family, friends and loved ones to get together but we mustn’t forget the many holiday hazards for your pets. Be sure to keep Poinsettias, Mistletoe, candles, tinsel and other holiday decorations that could be harmful out of reach. Supervise new toys/gifts and monitor the door to ensure pets do not escape with all of the seasonal traffic. Remember to keep the water full in your tree stand and don’t feed it anything you would not put in your pets water dish! It’s a busy season but the risks are numerous so try to stay aware and be proactive. Have you or a friend adopted a pet that was featured in PRM? If so, we would love to share your rescue story and happy ending with the rest of our readers! Just forward a picture of your pet with an update letter either from you (or your pet!) to rescuemag@shaw.ca.

Parkland K9 Rescue

We want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude, and best wishes, to our readers and advertisers who make PRM possible. We would also like to say thank you and extend holiday greetings to our distributors, and all of the volunteers & employees involved in pet rescue. Please note that this issue is for both December 2009 and January 2010.

New Beginnings Rabbit Rescue

O

n November 1st, 2009 Matthias Moore turned nine. He decided to celebrate with nine friends (including his brother and sister) but instead of presents, he asked for a donation to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). Matthias raised $150 dollars to help rescued pets at SCARS!!! This past September his mother, Kelly, attended the Canines & Cocktails Fundraising Auction. Within a couple of weeks the family adopted a very sweet girl they now call Roxy. Foxy Roxy, as she is affectionately known, is now a beloved pet and an important part of the family they can’t imagine living without, even the cats have grown to like her!

SCARS was very impressed with Matthias’ mature decision to help out other rescues so that more dogs like Roxy could find their way into loving homes. They are very proud to have such a wonderful & compassionate supporter who thinks it’s important to help, and even sacrifice, to make a difference for others in need. Pet Rescue Magazine would also like to acknowledge Matthias (and his family & friends) for their contribution. We are very proud to be sharing his story with all of you in this giving season. What an amazing example for others.

Everyone can make a difference, just ask Matthias and his friends!

I’m Silver Bells, a young female with a coveted ‘ice shine’ like a diva! I am a diva already since I was featured on TV in November. Wow I loved being noticed! I can hardly wait to be adopted, all I really want is a forever home…that’s not too much to ask Santa for is it? I have binkies and immeasurable cuteness in store for you. Please see my many friends up for adoption on the website.

Duke & Duchess Animal Rescue Society Woof! My name is Ariel and when I was rescued several months ago my bones were sticking out from a severe case of starvation and dehydration. Due to the stress of foraging I also lost half of my coat. With the loving care of my foster mom and holistic vet care I’ve been nursed back to health. I am a gentle & loving girl around 1.5yrs old. I’m a young Great Pyrenees named Ivory. I’m wonderful for giving big hugs and definitely a snuggler. I have a laid back personality but I’m a little afraid of cars on walks and tend to lie down until they pass. My brother and I were thrown out of a car and he was injured but has now found a loving home. I am a loyal girl and was standing vigil over him when he was rescued but ran away. Luckily they came back for me a few days later! I am 10wk old Collie/Lab designer X named Sheba who has never had a place to call home. I was hanging around a school yard when DDARS found me and I climbed right inside their food bag I was so hungry! I have the sweetest disposition and my foster mom says that with some TLC and good food you won’t be able to see my ribs and backbone sticking out much longer. Maybe life is going to be pretty good after all!

Prairie Animal Rescue Society (PARS) I am a Husky X named Ted. I am housetrained and I love cats and other dogs. I am a gentle boy and I am looking for a home to call my own. In fact it’s the one and only thing I want for Christmas...a squeaky toy and rawhide would be fantastic too, but past a family to call my own the rest is all gravy!

I’m a 2yr old Lab/Heeler X named Gidget and I weigh about 40lbs. I am gentle and love people. I like to stay close and I come when I’m called. I am a little too excited for a cat to appreciate me but that’s ok as I really prefer human company to anything. I am already house & crate trained.

Everyone calls me sweet little Ginger. I am an extremely sweet, calm and dainty 4yr old. I am a little shy but I still hope to ring in the New Year with my forever family! I have an old injury to my jaw, combined with an under bite which gives me this cute little sideways grin. I’m told nothing is more precious! I am great with other dogs, cats and people.

Well I’m back. Just four short months ago I was adopted but I didn’t really fit into their world, so back I came. I am a sweet girl and I love other dogs & cats. I do jump up which I will need to work on, but if you help I promise to work hard on that. Like all dogs, I need plenty of exercise and interaction. My name is Baluka Lou and I can’t wait to meet you!

I’m Lee. I am a pretty little pup with the most beautiful eyes. I was found wandering around all by my lonesome. I was very hungry and scared! Now I am looking for that special family to love me forever but there are two catches…I must have kids and a couch!

I am LEOPOLD the LARGE! I think I am the biggest in the Pack! I am a 1.5yr old fellow and I get along great with other dogs. I truly just don’t understand how big I am, so my meet & greets can be a little over exuberant. I haven’t yet met the cats so I’m not sure how they’d take me... but I sure love the kids and have only run over 3 so far.

Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue Foundation My name is Jane and everyone always tells me how beautiful I am! I’m a happy girl that loves to play. Squeaky toys are awesome and I tear around with them whenever it’s play time. I always pay attention to my people and try to please except when it comes to chasing kitties. I hope I can find a kitty free home in time for the holidays!

My name is Ranger and I really prefer being an only pet so I can give my people all my love. I also think cats are a pain in the neck. I’m a happy, relaxed kind of guy who loves getting out for walks. I’m 7yrs old but I still have a goofy side and sometimes I like to romp around with my people –but then it’s nap time! I’m pretty easy to please, aren’t I?

Spay/Neuter Action Program (SNAP) Hi everyone, my name is Pepsi and I am super duper sweet. I play well with others, LOVE people and I am around 4mths old. I think I might be a Shepherd X. I am still expected to grow quite a bit, but with my lap dog personality it doesn’t matter to me what size I am. I really need my forever family to come find me soon so I can grow up with them!

Hi everyone, it’s Koda again. I’m still here and no one can understand why I haven’t been adopted, I’m such a wonderful and friendly guy. I am house, kennel, & leash trained, and I also get along fine with other dogs & cats. My favorite thing in the whole world (besides peanut butter) is kids! I am shy at first, so I need a patient home who will put the time into my training that I deserve. Hi everyone my name is Belle. I am an incredibly sweet girl & I love everyone! I am only about 10wks old so I will need training, but that’s ok because I will do anything for a treat. As for my breeding...no one really knows and I’m not telling. Please call soon, I would love to grow up with you!

Hi my name is Ali and I am around 5yrs old. No one knows for sure what breed I am, so let’s just say I am a 100% Alberta mixed breed. I am super delightful and I love people. I am good with kids and other dogs…I really don’t know too much about cats so I will need to be supervised at first if you have a furry feline at home.

Hi my name is Ranger and I am 2yrs old. I am very friendly with cats & dogs, but tend to be a little shy at first with people - but I warm up fast! My siblings and I were abandoned in the cold, left to fend for ourselves, hungry and scared. I am a very handsome guy and I promise to love you forever.

Hi, my name is Sneakers. I am an American Eskimo around 5yrs young. I am an incredibly handsome fellow and I have a super sweet disposition. I have been in foster care with cats, dogs and children, and I love them all. I would love to meet you, please give SNAP a call if you would like to be my forever family.

Hearts & Hooves Well hello! My name is Tug and I am a 9yr old gelding. I am quite bold and curious for such a little guy! I used to be a little girl’s riding horse, but now I keep the big horses company. If you’re looking for a companion for other animals, I may be your guy!

Northern Alberta Society for Animal Protection (NASAP) My name is Jack! I am smart, but submissive, so I need a strong and patient leader with dog handling experience. I prefer to be the only pet and have shown some fear generated aggression towards other dogs, but with proper training I will learn this behavior is unacceptable. I am in classes slowly learning how to act around other dogs and my basic commands. I think a 1-2 adult home, that will continue my training, would be the best fit. I like to be around my people and will put my head on your lap even if you are not petting me.

My name is Princess, and I am a 6yr old Bichon/Shih Tzu X. I need a kind and patient home where no one will expect too much from me too soon. When I was young, I was used for breeding. I am very well socialized with dogs and cats but strange people make me a little shy and timid. I am a well behaved, quiet and undemanding girl. I will never make a nuisance of myself by jumping up to greet guests, but if you want a loving, gentle and nonshedding dog to keep you company and go for walks, then I may be your girl!

My name is Bartholomew and I’m about 2yrs old. I’m a big affectionate guy who is extremely sociable and playful. In fact, I will play with anyone…kids, dogs or grownups! I’ve had a rough life up until my time with NASAP and I can’t wait to go to my forever home!

Hi there! My name is Percy and I’m a 1yr old Tabby who loves kibble! I’m a big gentle fluff ball without a mean bone in my body. I’m looking for a quiet, mature home with lots of love and affection. I know I’ll make a wonderful lifelong friend to a lucky family.

They call me Rio! I’m a 4mth old nonshedding Havanese puppy. I am gaining confidence and love to tear around the yard at full speed! I will not grow very big but I will still need training to become a well mannered adult. I don’t want to be left alone all day, every day, so please don’t inquire if your household is out at work all day. Please call soon if you think I’m the one for you.

I am a stunning cat named Sierra. I was a stray that ended up at the Beaumont pound. I had a previous litter but that will be the last. I am a lovely, quiet and affectionate lap cat who is really just a big kitten at heart. I love to play with little toy mice but don’t care much for other cats. I’m excellent about using the scratching post and litter box.

I’m Stanley and I was turned into the Beaumont pound with an injured leg, but I’m good as gold now. I am very sociable & playful, but I am looking for a loving home without other cats. I’m a young fellow and I’m in great health. My forever home awaits…is it with you?

Don’t you love my brilliant eyes? I’m Aris, a 1-2yr old beauty who loves to play in the water! I have settled into my foster home very well and get along with the other foster cat and the resident dog. I’m an independent kitty and I love to have my chin scratched.

All I want

for Christmas are my two front wheels

Faith lived with the vet-tech for approximately a year but she was having trouble settling into the hustle and bustle of the busy household. Faith’s fear of loud noise had her tearing through screens and limping outside in search of a calmer environment. Fearing a return to death row if Faith returned to the pound, the vet-tech contacted the Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation (WHARF) to assist in finding Faith a suitable home. This was the first time I met Faith.

T’was the month before Christmas and faces were sad, As Faith struggled hard to play on her leg. The people at WHARF wondered what they could do, To give poor Faith a life all anew. Then came a phone call out of the blue With a promise to help Faith and her crew.... The most wonderful thing has happened; Faith, the five year old Border Collie Lab cross, has found her guardian angel. After living a restricted life for over four years due to the loss of her front-left leg, Faith is now able to live life as a normal dog with the arrival of her generously donated wheelchair. It remains a mystery how Faith lost her leg, we only know that life with her previous owners had her showing up at the pound several times, with her last visit resulting in them neglecting to come and recover her. After many days of sitting unclaimed at the pound Faith was scheduled to be euthanized, and if it wasn’t for the last minute rescue of a kind hearted vet-tech, Faith’s story would have ended right there. 8

After only a few days of Faith being up for adoption I received an e-mail from a wonderful lady named Susan Woo. Being a Border Collie owner Susan took an immediate shine to the three-legged dog, and after learning more about her and arranging a meet up with Faith, Susan told me she would like to donate a wheelchair for Faith. Seeing how much Faith enjoyed the outdoors and knowing the energy levels of the breed, Susan felt Faith should be able to go for long walks Susan Woo and Faith

Submitted by: Whiltecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation

Faith was placed in foster care with me and I put her up for adoption with very specific details on caring for a three-legged dog. Having only three legs means Faith needs special attention when climbing onto and off of furniture, as well as on stairs as her single front leg buckles under too much strain causing her to fall. She also fatigues quickly, as she can only walk for a few minutes before needing to lie down to rest. Faith’s health was also a concern as life on three legs not only reduces life span, but also increases risk of injury to other areas of her body. Her single front leg was showing signs of bending inwards under the struggle of compensating for her missing limb.

Northern Spirit K9 Rescue (NSK9) Are you looking for the perfect addition to your family? Look no further! My name is Hiway and I am about 3yrs old. I think I am a Shepherd X, but I know I am a super sweet guy no matter my breed! I was found very underweight with a face full of porcupine quills, but after several months of love and care I have gained some weight and I’m ready for my new home. I am gentle, very playful and get along well with other dogs. I also have great house manners and I am kennel, potty and leash trained…talk about ready to go!

Northern Spirit K9 Rescue is a non-profit charitable rescue organization that is in desperate need of foster homes. If you can help out please contact us!

www.northernspiritk9.com ~ (780) 456-2544 Paws For Life (PAWS) Hi there, Buster here! I am a 1yr old Rat Terrier that is full of energy and willing to volunteer as your personal Christmas elf! I would do really well with a family who has lots of energy to burn. I love going on jogs and learning dog sports. I need a family that understands the Terrier breed and is willing to love me FURever.

My name is Leo and I am a Long Haired Dachshund. I am roughly 8yrs old and have had a difficult time in life. I am looking for a family that is willing to be patient and help me rebuild my trust with humans. I get along great with my doggie and kitty friends.

My name is Phoebe and I am a Miniature Pinscher who is roughly 1yr old. I love lounging around and relaxing in bed but I still need a home that is willing to continue my training. I am a sweet girl and I get along great with other dogs and cats.

My name is Georgia and I am a Flat Coated Retriever X. I am currently living at a foster home with two other dogs and I am doing awesome. I was found wandering the streets and recently had puppies. I am a really sweet and innocent girl.

Hi, my name is Theo and I am a pretty shy guy. I am roughly 1.5yrs old and they tell me I am a Terrier…likely crossed with something out of this world! I would do best in a home with another dog and no children. Gosh I hope I can be home in time for Christmas…do you think I’ll get a stocking???

My name is Sadie and I am a little shy. I need some time to get to know you before I am willing to trust you but if you give me some space we will be best friends in no time! I am a Bull Mastiff X and I’m roughly 1.5yrs old. I always aim to please and require a family that is patient and willing to work with me.

My name is Elly and I am 1-2yrs old. I’m frightened of loud noises like the vacuum cleaner but can be convinced to come close. Although I absolutely LOVE to cuddle up, I am very tentative and even cower a bit when I ask for attention. I had babies while in SCARS care, but now I’m ready for my fresh new start in my own home. Forget Me Not Cat Sanctuary

Theo

Snickers

We are a beautiful litter of kittens who were born in early July and we are now ready to go to our very own adoptive homes. We were delivered to the pound without our mom, but she was very loving to us while we were with her and she taught us to have kind, gentle, trusting hearts. Therefore, we are the most affectionate bunch of kittens that you ever met. We love to climb up a human’s chest and just lay there and cuddle and purr our little hearts out. We are all very Chester playful, but not in a hyper way, and we are mostly peaceful and quiet and get along with everyone.

Lulu

I’m Bentley and I’m the spokesman for a gorgeous litter of four kittens who were born in mid-August in a little lean-to building in the Rollyview area. We can be adopted now but we will not be able to leave the sanctuary for our new adoptive homes until mid-December when we will have been spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated. I love to be cuddled like a baby and can purr up a storm. I’ve been giving eating lessons to an underweight little kitten here named Baby Mocha which explains my round little shape. After lessons and playtime, I love to curl up and sleep. My brother Dusty and sister Liza are both affectionate and have good purring motors. They love to be held and are always on the lookout for a friendly lap. Our little sister Lulu is still a little timid, but has made great progress in a very short time. As you can see, she is a real dark-haired beauty.

Humane Animal Rescue Team (hart) My name is Phoebe. I came in very underweight with worn down teeth and a shotgun pellet in my shoulder. I had x-rays for an old leg injury but nothing can be done. I don’t really mind that my right leg is shorter than my left leg though. I am still able to jump up on the sofa for love, but I don’t run much. I am very affectionate and like to show it all the time

My name is Mabel and I am 2yrs young. I think I am a Hound/Shepherd X and I weigh about 60lbs. I am a sweet, loving and gentle soul who loves long walks. I am completely housebroken, trustworthy when left home alone and I walk really well on leash. That is until I see a rabbit or squirrel –but I’m working on that! I am also an accomplished high jumper, so I need a 6’ fence.

My name is Edsel and all I want for Christmas is a new fur coat! I am a super affectionate Shepherd/Collie X around 6mths old. When I was first rescued I had mange. My belly was completely bald and the rest of my hair was really patchy. I have been treated and my hair is growing back well. Good thing too, because it‘s getting a little chilly!

I am a hip, 6mth old dude named Tommy and I am fresh to the city! I am smart, ready to explore and eager to learn new things. I am a Shepherd X but I still like to pretend I’m a lap dog. I am learning about house rules and get lots of treats because I do my business outside. I am not so good on a leash yet, but we are working on that!

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) Hey…did you know that every time a bell rings an angel gets their wings? You did…fantastic! Now tell me what I need to ring to get myself a home! They call me Buttons because I am just that cute! I came with my two older puppies from a pound. I am fantastic on leash and already crate trained. I am also great with cats & other dogs.

HoHoHo…Merry BaHumDog! -That’s right, Ebenezer Scrooge has nothing on me. Hehehe….everyone who knows me is laughing because I am the ALL TIME SWEETEST and most PRECIOUS boy ever. My name is Chico and I am a friendly 5yr old Border Collie/Lab X. I am great on/off leash, house/crate trained, and I’m great with other dogs. I also adore my foster kids, but I do like to chase cats. Traced vet records revealed I was shot in the head with an arrow in 2006, as a result one of my eyes droops a little but I still have full sight in both. My name is Puff…can I be your holiday elf? How about your holiday fairy, nymph, imp or gnome? I am a Terrier X and weigh 30lbs. I am very active and a bit of a Houdini but I do listen well. I am also young, have not learned all my house manners yet and have a somewhat bouncy nature (Tigger like!). I am a HUGE cuddler and love attention.

I am sponsored by the Seibert family. Thank You My name is Rochelle and all I want for Christmas is a Second Chance for my puppies and me. Besides being an amazing new mom, I also get along well with other dogs, and love to make snow angels! I am a lovely, young, and gentle Lab X. On November 8th I started having my puppies, but it was too much for me, my devoted foster mom whisked me away to the vet for a caesarean. I had to say an early goodbye to a couple of my little ones, but I do have 6 healthy pups and I am giving them everything I have for the best possible start. Between my girls Echo, Jersey & Sapphire, and my boys Ernie, Lincoln & Gus my paws are FULL! My holiday wish is that we will all have wonderful homes lined up by the New Year.

Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation (WHARF) My name is Judith. My three babies and I were left behind in an apartment building. Matilda, Madelin, Obie and I were sure hungry

when we were finally discovered. Matilda and Obie have since found good homes but Madelin and I are still looking. We are both really playful and sweet. Who wants to meet the best dog around? Yup that’s right it’s me Lucy! I came from the pound and WHARF has promised to find me the best family ever. I am a great girl with lots of energy to burn and I absolutely love people. Can you take me home so we can play? 12

I am a wonderful girl named Laverne. I was unclaimed at the pound and looked like I had not eaten in days. With food in my dish at all times I am now putting on weight really fast. I have also had surgery on my face to remove embedded quills in my cheeks. I do look a little broken right now but my wonderful nature is already shining through!

Who is the prettiest girl around? Me, Shilo! I was wandering around for days looking for food and finally someone picked me up to help. I really like it here but I would sure like to find a family of my very own so they can spoil me rotten. In return I will give you all my loyalty, friendship and lots of kisses. I am such a loyal girl.

Shelby here, I was lost but now I am found! I am the sweetest and happiest Rotti you will ever meet. I do have a very crooked leg but it doesn’t affect me much; I am still very playful and I love to run. Seriously, just look at me...can you really resist this adorable face!?!

Everyone calls me Ellen. I love to play tug-o-war, chase and fetch. I also love to snuggle, I will plop my chubby tummy right in your lap and lick you until you give me attention. I am still a puppy so I will need more training but I really like learning new things. Come play with me!

The McDonald Family Animal Rescue I am Ashes and this is my brother Cloves. I love to be cuddled right away, whereas sometimes Cloves takes a little convincing. We are healthy, love to eat and we adore playing on our wheel. We also love to jump around a small room where we can interact with you. We are great companions; our previous owners were wonderful but unfortunately had some drastic changes in their life so we came here until we could find another home. We really miss having a family we can call our own!

You may call me Lady Jane Grey, but I will answer to anything if you give me a loving home. I was rescued from the street and they thought I may be a little feral, but I fooled them! I have been the most gracious lady; purring and sitting nicely to be cuddled from the beginning. I even got along with the other cats right away.

I am L’il Bean and this is my adorable little girl Honey Pie. She is now 2mths old and her brother, Baby Squeekus, has been adopted. Honey Pie promised to stay and keep me company in my old age, even though I am only 6mths old myself. We like people and would be great pets.

Can you guess why my name is Ruby? I have the brightest red eyes and I am a little jewel of a creature. I am very friendly and LOVE being held. I hardly ever roll up in a ball when held and you humans fascinate me. I prefer older kids because they aren’t scared of my quills, but I don’t mind little ones from time to time. I will sleep all day while you work so I can wake up and play with you when you get home. My name is Rupert and after clearing up my eye infection and getting my coat back I now feel ready to show you what a friendly character I am. I am already litter trained and boy do I love to eat. In fact, I have never met a vegetable I didn’t like and I think hay is heavenly!

We are known as the “Flat Glass” kittens because we were rescued by a kind lady from a glass company. We used to live outside as little babies, but now we are all used to the comforts of a nice warm home. In order of appearance we are: Darinka, Mable, Mavis, Mikey, and Roselyn. We each have our own little characters but we are all as sweet as pie. If you would like to know more about us or could give one or two of us an indoor home for the rest of our lives we’ll show you what a good decision you made.

Our names are Muzzy, Rocket, and Panda….and we are survivors. 21 of us came in originally but only 6 of us survived. Despite the absolutely heartbreaking loss, PAKS and my foster mom are very grateful that some of us lived to tell our tale. We range from 6 weeks to almost 4 months of age and hope our battle will help convince people to always have their pet’s vaccinations up to date.

Fort McMurray SPCA Hi! My name is Piggy and I have been at the… HEY! You forgot about ME! Oops, sorry, this is Kat. She is my sista from another mista and we have been together since the beginning and wouldn’t have it any other way! Everything is better when we’re together! I know, I know, adopting 2 dogs is a big commitment, but we are worth it. We love long walks, snuggling and just hanging out.

Hank the Tank here! That’s me! I am a Lab crossed with… something big. I know, I know, scary right? Don’t let it fool you; I love kisses, hugs and just plain hanging out with humans and dogs alike. I still need some training, but I have my basic obedience training down pat and I’m eager to please. Want to be my forever friend?

“… and everything the light touches will be your kingdom”. I’m Mufasa and right now my kingdom is at the FMSPCA, but I’m more than ready to find a home. I like long walks, people of all ages and I LOVE to play ball. I’m also easy going and fully house trained. I may be a little older but I truly am like a fine wine, I just keep getting sweeter with time!

www.fortmcmurrayspca.ca ~ (780) 743-8997 Hinton & District SPCA My name is Rosie and I love to run and fetch, run and fetch, run and fetch. Come on people -I NEED to fetch! I am a very sweet girl, with a full 40 pounds of me to love. I think I am a yellow Lab X but I am not very big. I am pretty shy but very sweet! My name is China and I am a Coon Hound X. I am still young and have been learning to play with my new friend Rosie… although she is often more interested in chasing her ball! Yes, I am still here…it’s me Loca. I am a sensitive soul and really dislike like having my collar grabbed but I am okay on leash. When I am stressed or lonely I like to doggy talk. I am good with most male dogs but I often don’t like other females. I am a sweet girl looking for a loving home, could it be yours? 14

My name is Tar and I have been here for a while now. I have learned my manners and I am ready for my new family, I just don’t understand why they have not called or come to meet me! I like most female dogs but I would be best in a family where I am an only dog and can be your one and only.

I am a beautiful neutered Pit-Bull named Baxter. I would love to play with other dogs but I am not sure how. I love people and I am good with all sizes of humans. I am hoping my forever people will discover me here and bring me home in time to ring in the New Year together!

I am the senior dog in the shelter named Shasta. I am a 7yr young Golden Retriever/German Shepherd X. I really enjoy romping in the off leash area with Tar and also love to ride shot gun! Please consider giving a mature dog a home.

My name is Charlotte and I am a sweet Shepherd X. I am very high energy and really look forward to my daily adventures. I also love to fetch –you throw it and I will go get it anytime! Can we go exploring together?

Alberta Horse Rescue

Grande Praire SPCA Hello, my name is Kaleb and I am 3.5yr old Terrier X. I have been here since August. The other dogs love to bark and bark and bark, but I don’t. I like to sit in my kennel and take everything in! People say really nice things about me...but I still wonder why I haven’t found my family yet, or why they haven’t found me. I know you’re out there somewhere; you just have to come and meet me! Hi! Hi! Hi! Wanna be my friend? Cause I wanna be yours...oh yes I do!!! My name is Trisket and I am a Shepherd X around 1yr old. Yippee! I love to play and go for walks and play and...well play!!! You should really come in and see me...I’ll be waiting!!!

Hey you! Ya you! Come check me out! I am a 2yr old Lab X. I am a big and beautiful girl, but I must admit I do pull a bit on the leash still. Everyone says I’m getting better though! I have been here since August, but I just know someday I will get my chance to break outta this place and go home with my new family. My, oh my! It’s me Miss Mow! I am about 10yrs young and I promise to always let you know if I am not happy. Humans, I tell you, I do love them dearly -even when they don’t always listen to what I have to say. I am looking for the perfect home, but with no youngsters as they can be a little too energetic for me. Just because I am older doesn’t mean I can’t act like a diva! Please keep me in your thoughts!

Hello we are Tiny and Soot. We are 5mth old brothers and we love to play. We would love to be part of your family but we don’t have to go together. We sure hope our forever homes come soon, our 4 brothers and sisters already found theirs and will all be home for the holidays...I hope we are that lucky too!

All I Want For Christmas are my two front wheels and play with the other dogs. All the WHARF representatives and Faith were thrilled by Susan’s generosity. After a lot of research Susan found a company called Eddies Wheels, and after some precise measurements the order was placed. Four long weeks later the wheelchair that would change Faith’s life forever finally arrived. Everyone was so excited to see Faith in her new apparatus: Susan even rented a gymnasium to give Faith some privacy for her first two-wheeled attempt at walking. Faith was a little scared at first; trying to hop out of it, but after many cookies and a local stories...local people...local pets

little help and encouragement she was slowly making progress. Faith’s adaptation to the wheel chair has been slow but steady, as she continues to re-learn to walk and develop the necessary muscles to fully utilize the wheelchair. We predict that within a few weeks Faith will be out burning rubber with the rest of her kind, her handicap nothing but a memory left in the dust. prm The volunteers at WHARF cannot thank Susan enough for her generosity and compassion. Faith’s quality of life has improved dramatically. If you are interested in adopting Faith please go to:

Hi! I’m Dusty Rose and I’m a large beautiful 4yr old draft-x mare. I am 15.2 hands high and greenbroke so I need an experienced home. I am very friendly and easy to work with though. My hoof was injured so I am wearing special shoes right now and need regular Ferrier care, but they say I will be 100% sound by next summer. I am a big Palomino Arab/Paint X called Pacino because I have a scar on my nose. I am 9yrs old and have been a brood mare for most of my life, but I am ready to learn how to be a riding horse. I have a quiet nature and I’m healthy & sound... I just need someone to teach me the ropes and give me a new career! My name is Black Magic because I am a gorgeous jet black mare. I am 13 hands high and need an experienced rider as I have just started my training. I am only 5yrs old, in great health and sound. I have a typical pony attitude...very smart and sometimes pretty cheeky! You can call me Princess! I am what they call a minihinny...kinda like a mule but my dad was a mini horse and my mom was a mini donkey. I am very petite but make up for that in attitude! I will need an experienced home that will make sure I get regular hoof care and TLC as I can be pretty independent if left to my own devices. I am used to being out with the big horses (I like to boss them around tee-hee!) I don’t care for dogs much though.
