Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society Why am I still here? Maybe it’s because I’m a bit shy? I’m learning to trust, and before you know it I’m going to be a real pocket-pal! My name is Sofia and I quickly became a favourite of the volunteers here. I have so much potential, and I’m quite young which is great because I have plenty of time to learn & grow with you. Gearing towards a greater Edmonton where animals are treated with compassion and respect, and are cared for so no animal is left homeless. Mission: Through education and responsible rehoming practices, the Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society will become a driving force in the region as an animal rescue and advocate for the welfare of companion animals. By working together like gears in a chain, we will set in motion a positive momentum in making the Edmonton Area a greater place for people and pets. I’m Doby. Everyone says I am a quick learner. I am an 8mth old Shiba Inu/ Shepherd X & I am already crate trained. I love other dogs, adore kids & I am fine with cats. I also love walks & I’m great on leash. My favorite things are chewing on antlers, snuggling up & smiling!
My name is Noelle and I am a 10mth old Husky X. I was cold and hungry when rescued but more than friendly enough to pursue a meal! I am great with dogs of all sizes and cats are okay; I just ignore them. I am a very sweet girl who is the perfect mix of playful and cuddly.
I am a patient & quiet 6mth old boy named Tundra who gets along well with other cats & some dogs. I love to chill out on the couch, and if I had my way I would cuddle up with you all day to get belly rubs. I also love playing with Tonka & I am being trained to use a toilet!
Hello Dear… I am a gorgeous Lilac Point Siamese X named Frankie. I am 7yrs young & very quiet as far as Siamese cats go! I am quite affectionate & I love attention. I also get along with other cats, and some dogs. How could you say no to these baby blue eyes?
My name is Lokie and I’m 2yrs old. I am told I have the sweetest face ever!!! When I’m not searching for the warmest spot in the house to lounge, I’m tossing around a catnip toy or showing off my chirpy little meow. I adjust very quickly & I am great friends with the resident cats.
I’m Hunter. I love to gaze outside from a cat tree or cuddle up with a human. I am 2yrs old & I LOVE attention. I will lick your hand if you scratch my belly and if you scratch me behind the ear I will adore you forever. I adore catnip toys, especially the ones that make noise.

My name is Tonka and I’m a brave 6mth old boy who loves dogs, cuddles, mischief, and playtime with my brother Tundra. I am told I have the most hilarious meow, and I am currently being trained to use a toilet. I sure hope my future family finds me soon!
I’m Norman! I am a 1yr old, 70lb, purebred Doberman. I absolutely love to greet people and turns out I love kids too. The resident toddler here likes to dress me up like a princess! I enjoy playing with other dogs and can’t wait to have a home where I’ll be unconditionally loved. Hello, I am a 4mth old pup named Echo. I am full of energy & very smart; I already know my basic commands. I am a Husky X (one blue eye & one brown) and I love to run around and cuddle up close. Life with me will always be an adventure! I’m the infamous Shepherd/Husky X named Smiley. Many organizations have known & loved me for years while I lived in a rural community. However, one day I was shot & required surgery so I am now in the rescue world and on the mend. I’m about 5yrs old & weigh around 55lbs. Hello, I am a big teddy bear named Dexter who is terrific with children and loves people. I am a 2yr old, 95lb, Mastiff/ Shepherd X. I am also very eager to please and I can’t wait to find my own family. I’m indifferent to cats and get along fine with other dogs.

39 Ways To Not Kill Your Best Friend by: Dr Judith Samson-French
There’s no question with this audience that we all love our pets... but in our ignorance can we ultimately hurt them with our good intentions? 39 Ways To Not Kill Your Best Friend: Tales of Caution for Dog Lovers provides the reader with valuable insight so we can learn from others mistakes. Veterinarian Dr. Judith Samson-French takes us on an enlightening trip through her own personal experiences showing us how loving intentions can often be dangerous or even fatal to your dog’s life. These true stories are written in a compassionate yet gripping & thought provoking manner. I find learning by books quite dry, but I can promise this one will get you thinking, tear your heartstrings and leave you a wiser and better prepared dog guardian. Each chapter shows us a near death or fatal case that clearly demonstrates the 8

Hi I’m Charlie with my sister Cindy. We are a 5mth old team of mischief makers. We were rescued from a rural community, starved and bearly alive. Cindy is quiet and shy and is better with adults than children, she does not like to be too far from me, I on the other hand love to play and have cuddles. We are great with cats and love dogs. Can you open up your heart and home to us?

My name is Shilo and I’m a beautiful little girl. I travelled all the way from Newfoundland to find my forever home here in Alberta. I love playtime... from chasing a ball to squeaky toys I’m up for it anytime! I also love attention… but who doesn’t? I jump like an antelope, so I will need a secure, high fenced, yard. Looking for a dapper young fellow to add spice to your life? Look no further! My name is Riley and I’m ready for anything. Whether it’s a jog in the park, a candle-lit dinner, or cuddling up with a good book I would love to be your go-to-guy! I can get really excited when I see other dogs but we can work on that.

Look no further if you want a loyal, happy, resource guarding, house/leash/crate trained & loveable take-off artist in your life. I am a 7yr old Boxer X named Bart. I love dogs & kids but need some work on my cat skills. I will take off when I am un-leashed so I need someone to keep a close eye on me. Hello, my name is Allie and I am Maggie’s girl. My back leg is broken but its mending well and I’ll be ready to find my new family very soon. Please let the SCARS volunteers know if you think that I could be the one for you. I can’t wait to hear from you!
I am a 4mth old named Bobbi (my mother is Brenda Lee). I was a little nervous at first but now I’m a happy & confident kitty who loves to play. I’m content to cuddle up on your lap and always willing to ‘help’ you around the house. I’m friendly, well behaved and lots of fun.
My name is Claire and I am a 4mth old gal with an aloof and independent attitude. I was found outside a school. I will sit near you... just not on your lap. I sleep with my foster mom now, so I am getting better. I am fine with other cats & really good with the dogs here.
Bentley... Super cute! Super smart! Super dog! I am about 10mths old and I love the off-leash park. I have great recall and get along with all the dogs. I am good with cats & kids too; I just love everyone. I am also really great in the house and sleep nicely in my doggie bed.
My name is Carson and I’m one fun loving guy! I am about 10mths old and possibly a Hound/ Rotti X of the extra special designer dog variety! I have the most gorgeous brindle markings. I was hit by a car at 3mths old so one of my hind legs is a little shorter than the other.
I am Cove. I am a beautiful, bright-eyed, energetic, 1yr old Collie/Shepherd X who loves everyone (except the cats). I like to hug and I am fascinated by squirrels & wildlife in general. I am house-trained and learn quickly, but I’m still young so slippers are fair game!

Hello rescue fans! I am called Dawson. I am a very gentle guy, even when I’m scared. I had a pretty rough start but I still love people, other dogs and the resident cat. Everyone says I am a beautiful Husky X. I am about 8mths old and weigh 30lbs.
SCARS Sanctuary Animal Program: We look to businesses to please consider sponsoring a sanctuary animal. Your company logo will show up on the animal’s page and let everyone know your organization is helping to not only save the life of these lovely animals, but that you are actively taking part in homing and caring for the animal. What’s a sanctuary animal? Sanctuary animals are permanent wards of SCARS due to medical conditions or behavioural issues and we are not likely to ever find an adoptive family. SCARS is committed to giving these animals a home and the love, care and attention they deserve. We house them at our two main intake facilities. We look to businesses to sponsor Sanctuary Animals to help us offset the cost of housing them. For more info, visit http://scarscare.ca/long-term-animals/
TJ (Thomas Jefferson) here... they thought I was feral but really I was just scared. I hid under the blankets the first day, but then decided to show my face and wouldn’t you know it I am super friendly! I am a large boy with extra special polydactyl feet.
SCARS has launched a news website www.scarscare.ca With the redesign, we are now offering advertising and sponsorship opportunities. Advertise on the SCARS Website: Our animal pages are visited roughly 30,000 times each month — most of the traffic is visits to the adoptable animal pages. We are selling advertising on these pages. Logos will appear randomly (from the pool of advertisers), each time an animal page is clicked. For more info, visit: http://scarscare.ca/how-you-can-help/website-advertising

Thomas has had a really rough life living as a stray in a rural community where he was frequently the victim of many attacks. Despite this, Thomas has forgiven in the name of love. He is good with other dogs when he’s allowed to meet politely. He is a human hugging machine, and seems to really like children! Because Thomas had to make his own way hunting whatever he could find for food, we do not believe he’s suitable with small animals such as cats or rabbits. Thomas is learning basic manners and is very eager to please his humans. He loves nothing more than cuddling up on the couch and being as close to his foster mom as he can possibly get!

My Little Lad A heartwarming account of one man’s life and the joy his little 10lb Maltese mix brought him in his last days. By: Lori Trudgeon
D
dog that needed a second chance. Bob had a soft spot for animals that needed help and he often donated to a rescue organization that I volunteer with called the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society.
Bob was born on Valentine’s Day and his heart was a big as the notoriety of his birth date. It’s difficult to sum up a man whose life spanned nearly a century. I met Bob when he was already in his late 70s. He was interesting, passionate, intelligent and generous. He valued friends, adored his family and he loved animals. He particularly loved Wisp who had come to him, not as a pup, but as an adult
Already well into his 80s, Bob found that Wisp provided laughter and companionship through a part of his life where he was no longer able to enjoy the freedom to work and to travel. Eventually Bob became too frail to care for Wisp and he asked for help. Giving up Wisp broke Bob’s heart. But, as fate would have it, a wonderful woman named Susanne Drachmann would not only find Wisp a new home, she would ensure that Bob continued to enjoy visits from Wisp. As often as she could, Susanne would take Wisp to Bob’s long-term care home and spend an hour or two chatting with Bob while Wisp cuddled on his lap. I believe these visits gave Bob more joy and comfort than we will ever know. After a visit, Bob would phone me every day for a week just to say how grateful he was to Susanne. There would always be so much excitement in his voice.
uring the summer of 2013, a dear friend of mine passed away peacefully in his sleep. I like to think that among my friend’s last thoughts may have been happy ones about his little dog. Don’t get me wrong. Bob had many people in his life that he loved and who loved him back. But Wisp, a 10-pound Maltese mix had the ability to bring joy and playfulness into Bob’s life at a time when time itself had stolen so much. You see Bob was in his 93rd year and had become frail to the point of being bedridden and requiring 24-hour nursing care. When almost all simple joys had been taken from his life, his beloved pet provided comfort through an instinctual ability and willingness to offer unconditional love.

Susanne is the owner/operator of Blackpaws Pet Resort near Morinville. She is a kind, generous lady who volunteers for the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society. She fosters homeless pets and provides storage space for the donated pet food and supplies that are crucial to SCARS operations. At first, Wisp was a long-term temporary guest at her kennel but when it became clear that Bob would never be returning home, she took it upon herself to find Wisp a new home. The wonderful family that adopted Wisp were fine with letting Wisp go for visits. They gave Bob a framed photo of Wisp and created a photo album so he could see what life was like for Wisp at his new home. I found myself in the middle of a network of kindness—people helping people—and it was all for the love of a little dog. Before Bob passed away, he had become too weak to move or talk. During what turned out to be our last visit, Wisp sat quietly on the bed and Bob appeared to be asleep. We placed Bob’s hand on Wisp’s back but we couldn’t be sure that Bob knew we were there. Wisp would occasionally offer him soft kisses, but there wasn’t a reaction. Eventually, the time came to leave and Susanne put Wisp close to Bob’s face for one last puppy kiss. In what appeared to be a momentous effort, Bob began to move his hand toward Wisp and whispered “my little lad.” This was Bob’s favourite way to refer to Wisp. Bob was much more aware of his surroundings that we realized. It was a moment I will never forget. It was very hard to leave Bob on that day. A few days later, he was gone. I am grateful to the staff of the retirement residence who provided him with loving care.
local stories...local people...local pets
It occurred to me that Bob had come full circle. He seemed almost as helpless as a baby at the end, but he had lived a full life. He had seen the world go through so many changes. He had survived war, he had married, he had enjoyed a brilliant career, he had travelled extensively, he had enjoyed the companionship of friends and colleagues who admired him, and just as importantly—at least to him— he enjoyed the love of animals. I think Wisp did more than provide Bob with companionship; he also brought new friendships into Bob’s life. I think that’s what pets do. They give us kindness, love and laughter, and then they help us discover those traits in other people. When we are gone, I think most of us will hope we are remembered for our good deeds. But I think what will matter most, as we go through our golden years, is our ability to enjoy simple things like the joy that comes from loving a dog. If I am lucky enough to live into my 90s, I hope to have a dog like Wisp in my life. When all that Bob had left was his ability to seek comfort in simple touch and fond memories, I like to think he found much needed joy and comfort through Wisp. I know there are many wonderful people who volunteer their time to bring the joy of pets into the lives of seniors. If you know a person like that, please take a moment to thank them. If you are a person like that, then give yourself a hug. If you want to be a person like that, then I hope this article inspires you. The joy you can bring to seniors and the example you set for young people could mean so much more than you will ever know. prm

I am Zena, Warrior Princess Supreme! One look at me and you will know exactly what I’m talking about. I know they say I’m not very big, but I MUST be... I am a 3yr old Chihuahua named Leia (Princess) who is good with cats and older children. I will be a fair and just ruler! I am the embodiment of class and grace unless you pick me up, then I am not classy or gracefu at alll! It’s terrifying to be picked up by giants!!!
There is a sweet part of me that I love to embrace... cuddling and nose kisses are the best. My name is Daphne and I get along with most everyone except the cats -they are too full of attitude and pomp. My name is Spirit & I have a wonderful, and very gentle, personality. I haven’t found my forever family yet because I’ve been busy raising my beautiful little filly, but she’s all grown up now and on her own. Now it’s my turn to look after myself & find a loving home. Hi, my name is Betty and I gotta tell you… being a mom isn’t always easy. I was pregnant when my herd arrived so most of my herd mates have all since found homes. The good news is that now that my little filly is weaned, I can too. I can hardly wait!
Hello everyone... my name is Sarah and I arrived here pregnant at the same time as Betty. Since then I have given birth, cared for, and weaned a very handsome little colt. Like Betty, and the others in my herd, I am very gentle and well-mannered.

For the love of
time about the conversation I had with him in my vehicle or the choice of name, but I hoped my voice was reassuring to him. I had set up a double kennel system for George: a place where he could feel safe and where I could feel safe while providing medication in his food, water and clean litter. Immediately leaving the carry kennel he slowly slinked to the other crate in his new home. He lay motionless, his eyes darting with every move I made. I left him alone to deal with his inner fears of which I was one.

t was Sunday night, almost 10 p.m., and I received a call from one of our barn homes. They called to tell me they were coming into Edmonton on Tuesday and were able to take four wild cats and give them a home. This is always good news to hear as most feral cats never find a home once placed in a shelter system. I woke up extra early Monday morning to make the call to the Edmonton Animal Care & Control Centre. I am excited to tell them I can take four cats out of their facility. The veterinary technicians who work at ACCC are happy to hear from me. We have an established relationship and they know my call means a second chance for some animals currently in their care. I asked for four feral cats, preferably male, because I only have one day to get them neutered, vaccinated and dewormed before they would go to their second chance home. So that afternoon I picked up four bewildered faces and delivered them to our veterinary clinic. All were cowering in the back of their carry kennels. Later that afternoon I got a call from my veterinarian saying the largest male had an abscess behind his left ear. That meant he was not able to transport with the rest of them to the farm the following day. He would need to stay in my care and receive medication until things were cleared up. That simple phone call was the start of yet another emotional rescue journey that changed everything for an unwanted, unsocial cat. On the Tuesday I saw the three off to their new home and picked up the kennel which held a terrified tomcat that weighed close to 20 pounds. It was on our way home that I decided to call him George. I don’t think he cared at the 20

During the fourteen days that followed, I couldn’t see if his ear was healing well or not. I hoped that the antibiotics were working and assumed they were by the fact that he was not ear twitching or shaking his head anymore as the days went on. However, I could tell that the wounds he carried inside were far greater than the physical ones that had brought him into my care. Every day, George and I had a one-way conversation about anything and everything. At first he would look at me then turn away and bury his face. I knew that whatever had happened to him had scarred him deeply and that he would have to learn to trust at his own pace. Me telling him not to be afraid really didn’t cut it. Almost three weeks had past when one day I saw a spark of interest during one of my ramblings. It was the first time he came to eat in front of me. I knew there was nowhere left for George to go emotionally but forward. Every day thereafter George grew in confidence just a little but enough. Whatever had caused this broken tomcat to shutdown was finally being replaced with a willingness to trust again. As time went on, George and I grew closer and he allowed me to touch him, then handle him and then play with him. To me it was like watching the most beautiful butterfly emerge from its cocoon. I hear all the time, “It’s just a cat” or “I hate cats” or hear that some person is threatening to put out poison. Perhaps they need to experience the compassionate journey such a psychologically wounded animal can take you on. I can’t explain the feeling of seeing such forgiveness and growth, but those of you who work with these animals will already know what I mean. Today, George is ready to be adopted into his forever home— another chapter in his life. Anyone who knows him will tell you he is sweet, handsome and a clown who loves to goof around with balls. Although it will be bittersweet when he moves on, I know that he has shed his fears and is ready and capable of being a wonderful companion to someone that will love him as I do. What would I like George to know? I’m sorry that you had to experience abuse and abandonment in your life. It’s not supposed to be that way, but I thank you for trusting me and allowing me to help you heal and share in your journey of forgiveness. prm local stories...local people...local pets
I am an extremely handsome 3yr old gentleman who is full of life! I came from a house where there were lots of cats and I was a little nervous at first. Now I have found a new sense of freedom and I’m loving it! I love to play and I love to be around people, I can’t believe how my life has changed. My name is Seleno and if you are looking for a super duper boy who could be a GQ model then I’m your man!

My name is Tangie short for Tangerine, I think it fits very well because of my beautiful orange coat. I’m a handsome boy with a purrs-onality to match. I am a very loving young lad. I was recently returned through no fault of my own. I just don’t know why the resident kitty in the home I went to wanted to attack me all the time.
Hi there I came to rescue because I was found with my siblings at 10 days old under a concrete slab. My name is Penelope and I am a loving girl, who loves plenty of attention. I am very inquisitive and I love playing with shiny toys! I am looking for pet parents who will continue to help me blossom into a wonderful cat. If you could find a little spot in your heart for me then please do get in touch as soon as you can. Whoopty Do! My name is Myers. I am a gorgeous little lady that is looking for my fabulous permanent home. I was born in care. My mom came in very thin and had nine babies but sadly only five of us survived. I am small for my age but I am happy and healthy and ready for the next chapter in my life.
Purrs to you for stopping by! I’m looking for a home and maybe you’ve got one needing to be filled by a playful little girl? I’m Karen, sometimes I can act shy and run from you but I will warm up to the right family I just know it! I haven’t been around dogs or children so an adult home is best.
Hi! So you’ve found me at last! I’m the perfect bachelor. My name is Jax and you don’t need to look any further for a loveable, super friendly, and playful kitty. I am an all round social boy who would complete any family and I’m sitting waiting. Please give me a chance to bring love and happiness into your home.
Hi my name is Coki. I’m a young boy who is very talkative and social! I like to play shy around new people as far as being touched, but once I warm up to you I will stick to your side like glue. I am looking for a quiet home that will give me lots of love.

Zoe’s Animal Rescue
I am the sweetest & most loving, 5yr old, Shepherd X named Little Man who came from Best Friends sanctuary in Utah. It’s been a hard life; originally I came from a Meth bust in Arizona. I am low energy, good with dogs & very smart. I would like a home where people are around without cats.
My name is Ebony and I was a stray so I’m not quite used to all of this attention. I am more of a love from afar cat but that doesn’t mean I love you any less. I would do best in a home with a no kids or cats but I will tolerate dogs if they are respectful.
Hi there, my name is Emerson and I was born with half a leg so it had to be amputated… but I can easily get around on 3 legs -no problem! I am a very sweet boy who almost looks like a purebred black lab. I’m good with other animals & kids too.
I’m KaraBear! My litter was found in an industrial yard with no momma in sight. Luckily we were found in time and hand reared in rescue. I am an extremely affectionate and I love to be close to cuddle. I get along great with dogs and other cats.
Hi there, my name is Nina and I am 1yr old. Pictures really do me no justice! After rescue I quickly gave birth to 7 lovely kittens. I am so happy they will never know hunger, fear, or pain. I am a very friendly, loveable, & sweet girl who loves everyone I meet.
My name is Stella and I am 2yrs old. I was rescued with my girl, Orbit, but she was adopted and I am still here. If you have been looking for a very beautiful & cuddly cat to come home to every day then I could be your girl. Please consider giving this pretty face a chance!
I’m a handsome Akita/ Shep/Husky X named Sully. I am about 1.5yrs old and weigh about 75lbs. I am both very adorable and adoring. I am house trained, affectionate & I love belly rubs. I’m also well behaved around most dogs and I absolutely love car rides.

Sundance Canine Rescue My name is Tula and the amazing people of ARTS and Sundance rescued me from an unthinkable situation. I am a good soul and I love to run & play. My foster family says I am an energetic girl and I bounce like a bunny! I get along with everyone, even the cats.
Oh my gosh, it is great to meet you! My name is Theo and I was rescued with my sister (Tigger) in a rural community. I like everyone, as long as I can approach first. I am a good boy and I get along with dogs, kids & cats. I can’t wait to show you how handsome & loveable I am.
My name is Tigger and Theo is my big brother. I am a very loveable girl, especially with the ladies. I also love to play with other dogs and do well with children. I need a little time to warm up, but with a little patience I will be your best buddy and love you forever & ever.
Hello, my name is Sunshine. I would love a calm & quiet home as I can be a little shy. I get along with dogs & cats… well, I just give them their space. Given the time to heal and trust I have made a lot of progress from when I was first rescued.
Hi all! Jack is the name! I may look like a small dog, but I’m full of BIG personality. I am a senior looking for a lap to call my own where I can be loved until the end of time. What do you think? Oh… I should also mention that I don’t get along with cats; they drive me crazy!

My Dogs gave me my life back to. I could accept that, as I couldn’t walk at all.
Tails From Home By: Jody Bartley
W
hat do you do when your doctor comes to you, while you lay in a hospital bed after a life threatening accident, and tells you that you are a survivor and eventually you will be able to get around with the aid of a walker. All my life I had been active, mentally strong and physically fit and now I lay still, barely able to raise my head, feeling very helpless and listening to my doctor tell me my life, as I knew it, was over. In a freak accident I had been totally run over by a car. I had multiple fractures to my pelvis, back, ribs and collar bones. My lungs were partially collapsed and my heart and kidneys had taken a beating. There were open wounds on my legs, abdomen, arms and face. I wasn’t feeling too optimistic that the doctor wasn’t speaking the truth. I had always taken care of everything on the home front. My son was still in high school, my fiancée worked on the other side of town and my two adopted dogs and cats were always my responsibility. What was to happen to them now? The boys assured me they were looking after everything as best they could; every one was being fed but the dogs weren’t getting out for as many walks as they were used 24
pet rescue magazine
After six days lying in bed I was introduced to the wheel chair and the walker. Since I’m such a stubborn personality I started right with the walker. This was to be the best I could do so I decided just to get used to it. It seemed so hard to go such a short distance but I kept working on it and within two weeks I was granted a weekend home for Mother’s day and met my first set of crutches. When I pulled up into the driveway in the taxi my two dogs met me at the gate. My 10 year old adopted Doberman cross nearly peed himself he was so happy to see me. My long haired husky would not stop talking. It was great to be home even if just for a weekend. People always say animals know when things are different or when they need to be careful and we all learn it is true. My older dog had always sat on my lap, even though he was 92 pounds, and jumped up to give great big hugs, but he treated me like I was glass. I got lots of attention from all of my animals and family and I was determined to master the crutches and leave the walker in the dust. I returned to the hospital for one more week of physiotherapy tests. I passed them all and was released. When I got home I had to learn what I could and couldn’t do. I tried walking my dogs with one crutch but I had two
February/March 2014
dogs and needed two hands to hold them so my crutch was fired over the fence. My dogs were kind enough to go slow for the first couple of weeks. They let me hobble along with them for only a few of blocks at a time until eventually I was back. After only six weeks from the day I was run over, my dogs got me right back into shape. I no longer used crutches at all. I went to see the doctor of orthopedics for a check up. He took x-rays, then more x-rays, then said my bones haven’t healed yet I seemed totally functional. My dogs had helped me get all of my muscles back, so even though I was still in pieces, my muscles held my bones together. Within two months I was back to work and still work in a fairly physically field today nearly seven years later. I do suffer from chronic pain and I still have bones that never healed but every morning I get up, I’m met with the wagging tails and woofs of my current adopted dogs and another day begins. My dogs gave me incentive to try harder years ago and they give me incentive to keep going every day. Our daily walks are very important and special to all of us. I believe that any animal, from the smallest mouse to the largest horse, can give us encouragement to overcome any obstacle. It just happens that my dogs were the ones that gave me, my life, as I knew it, back, one step at a time. prm local stories...local people...local pets

They call me Commander and my tail spins like a helicopter! I was a shy guy but since receiving medical care and some TLC I have come out of my shell. My fun-loving, goofball personality is really starting to shine! I am extremely cuddly and would love a home with another dog.
I am the very sweetest dog ever and they call me Brave. I behave a lot like a cat; I am very quiet, independent, & I love sleeping on the couch. I am also very smart and quickly mastering basic commands. I like going for walks, but with three legs moving can be a challenge so I would do best in a home with minimal or no stairs.
My name is Pepita, which means nugget or pumpkin seed. I’m a very smart girl that loves to play with other pups. Like my sister, Magdalena, I have a strong personality and I really just love being close to people. I will happily sit at your feet and make a great addition to any family.
I’m Magdalena. My name loosely translates to “cupcake” but it can also mean pretty, so it suits me perfectly! I’m a very smart, curious girl that loves to rumble & tumble with my siblings. I have a strong personality, but I’ve caught on to so many things already and I love to cuddle & give kisses.

My name is Marshall and I was a feral kitten but now that I know about the good life -I’m indoors to stay! I am 6mths old and my favorite game is chasing the feather wand. I enjoy other kitties, but what I really love is cuddling up with my humans and their big dog.

I’m a very friendly, affectionate & playful boy named Vegas who does well with other cats, dogs and children 10+. Love At First Sight Jager
Diesel
Tails From Home By: Marc and Vannessa Goudreau
y husband and I have welcomed two dogs from Sundance as members of our family. Diesel (formally TJ) and Jager (formally Kris). Both dogs came to be a part of the family on chance as either time we were not looking for a dog, but fell in love both times and had to make them part of our family. One morning Sundance happened to be having an adoption event in the parking lot of the grocery store. That’s where we spotted Diesel.
M
beforehand how we were not going to be getting a dog as we were in the process of moving, and would soon have a newborn. Well that all went out the window when we met Jäger. His easy going personality and calm nature made him the perfect puppy for a child. We had to have him! Our families told us how crazy we were for adopting a puppy at such a hectic time in our lives. But they couldn’t have been more wrong.
Love at first sight.... From that moment on Diesel has been like our first child. He was pretty skittish and afraid of the most unusual things (garbage bags, running vehicles). But with lots of love, patience, and structure; Diesel has become a very well behaved dog.
Jager has been the best furry addition to our family yet. He completely calmed Diesel down, as he is ALWAYS at Diesel’s side. We now live on 100 acres of bliss, and the dogs have the life they have always deserved. They are the best of friends (I mean inseparable) and will live a long happy life being the guardians of our land. prm
Jager came to us when I was about six months pregnant with our first child. My husband and I had volunteered at an Adoption event, and we had discussed
