Hi my name is Cooper and I am a Shepherd/Chow X. I am 5-6yrs old and, as you can see, extremely handsome. I am a loving, docile, people adoring boy who listens well. I am very easy going and quite submissive, so a home as an only dog or with another mild tempered dog like me, would be great. I am great with kids and can’t wait to show someone how wonderful I am! For more information on on me please call SNAP at (780) 968-0025.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with me and I can’t wait to be a wonderful, loving and loyal companion for my very own family. Although I am 8yrs old I am still FULL of fun, eager to please and willing to learn. I absolutely love going on adventures in the car and exploring anywhere (a well contained yard is preferred!). Rachel Sentes Book Review
Baking For Your Dog by Ingeborg Pils
Well spring is here and it’s time to make some tasty treats. If you don’t have a doggie deli nearby, this beautifully photographed book will get you and your dog salivating for some homemade treats. For those of you, who have a dog that also serves as a kitchen assistant; get ready for some good eats! The recipes in this book are amazing and it’s hard to believe that they are meant for our furry friends. I think a few of them could certainly double for people treats but there are a few exceptions. I’m not sure I would go digging into Pippa’s Tripe Cookies anytime soon, but they sure do look good. It’s refreshing to see a cookbook that has gorgeous photographs to show presentation of the treats and the most adorable dogs you’ll ever see. The book is divided into 5 sections: Tasty Treats for Little Treasures which includes cheese and fish delicacies, Healthy Bites which highlights tofu, rice, spinach and bananas, Hearty Nibbles with some amazing brownies, Chewy Fun for Great Friends which makes use of fresh ingredients like beef, polenta, bacon and chicken, and finally Extra Treats for Greedy Gourmets celebrating those special occasions in your dog’s life including birthday fish tarts. Most of the recipes have pretty basic ingredients that you should be able to find in any grocery store and the majority will keep for up to 4 weeks.
Who’s who…can’t you tell? Well, we aren’t too sure either, but we’re a great pair! My name is Bou. Wriggley is a 3yr old silver male and likes to be held and cuddled. I am a 2yr old boy with far too many places to see to be stopping anywhere for too long. Happy dances are a regular occurrence. We’re both great with our foster dog and sometimes Wriggley will even play tug-o-war with a stuffy (the dog even lets him win a little here and there!) He is quite tenacious, and won’t let go. As soon as the dog loses interest he will quickly stash his prize somewhere she can’t reach.
We are still in need of Foster Homes for our Furry Friends! www.albertaferretsociety.com ~ (780) 447-3336
Always remember that when you bake for your puppy be aware of intolerances and allergies, since not everything that human beings like to eat is good for your pet. If you aren’t sure whether your dog can tolerate an ingredient listed in this book, check with your vet. This book is available in the bargain section at your local Chapters for a great price and check out Cooking for your Dog as well.

Greetings!
Hello! I am a full grown Ball Python. My history is not known because I was a “stray” that was abandoned in a fish tank, outside. Fortunately a nice gentleman took me in and called ERAS. Please give ERAS a call if you think you might be responsible enough to offer me a caring and committed home.
We are delighted to be in our third year of print here at PRM and want to thank you for helping us continue to expose the joys of rescue! There have been numerous ongoing challenges and we want to express our appreciation to our advertisers and ask that you support them and let them know you saw them here. We also wanted to extend our gratitude to our readers and those who have submitted articles, written letters, bought subscriptions and of course to all of those people who work every day on behalf of the animals. We hope to see some of you out at the many rescue events this month. Between Tails On The Trails (SCARS - June 6 - Lions Park St. Albert), Avenue Goes To The Dogs (June 13 - 9210 -118 Ave.) and Pets In The Park (EHS - June 28 - Hawrelak Park) it is sure to be a busy month. Come by to visit and pick up a subscription form to have PRM delivered to your door each month, or ask us about how you can take some of the guess work out of knowing what your pooches DNA make-up is. I am one of a pair of Star Agamas. We came with a young Iguana who has since gone on to a loving home. We were born last August and we are hungry little bug eating machines -we sure love our worms and crickets! Since we don’t take up much room maybe we could come live at your house…what do you think?

Spay/Neuter Action Program (SNAP) My name is Ice Kitty. I am a very loving and sweet 8mth old little girl. I was given my name because when rescued I was found frozen to a garbage can…I sure love being an indoor kitten. I am very special and deserve a lifetime of love & happiness to make up for my rough start.
Hi my name is Tao and I am a de-clawed adult Siamese. I am very sweet and a bit of a pillow princess. I would LOVE to sleep right next to you on your pillow at night. I love attention and will “talk” to you when I want scratches or some snuggles.
My name is Tiggy but my foster family calls me Tigg’s. I am a wonderful girl from the pound who is currently living in foster care with kids, dogs & cats. We all get along, but it’s time I moved on to my own family. I am super sweet, if you are looking for someone to curl up on the couch.......I’m your girl.
My name is Turtle and I am a very special 1yr old girl. I was born feral, BUT have come to love the family lifestyle. I would like a quiet home, with other cats & dogs for comfort. Although I am not a social butterfly, I do love to cuddle when it’s quiet. I have the most beautiful torti colored coat.
My name is Shaggy …but you can call me whatever you want as long as you call me! I am a 3yr old male Shih Tzu and I came from a loving home, but I was surrendered for reasons beyond my family’s control. I am a little scared with all of the changes, but will be fine once I find my new forever family.
Hi my name is Ruby and I am a super sweet Blood Hound X around 7mths old. I love everyone, but as with all teenagers I need some help with my manners and training. I am smart, try hard and really want to please so I am sure to learn fast and I know I will love you forever.
Hello, my name is Warf. I am a neutered adult male cat who desperately wants to come home with you. I am currently living in foster care with other cats, dogs & kids.......& oh I love the kids :) But even though I love it here, it is time I moved on to a home of my own. I am very affectionate & I will sit with you all day long. I just love, love, love attention. Could you be my forever family?
My name is Koda and I’m 8mths old. I am ready to come live with you, are you ready for me? I’m sweet but shy, so I need a family willing to help build my confidence and love me forever. Like all pups I will need obedience training. I’m very lovable & super cute too...all I need is a family. Could you find room in your home for me?

Humane Animal Rescue Team (hart) I am Joe! I can run, play and catch with the best of them! True to my Border Collie breed, I love to be on the move. I’m a sporty, energetic and happy guy who loves to be around other dogs. I need a little time to warm up to new people, but you can always win me over if you throw my toy!
I’m a 2yr old Lab/Husky X named Coal. I have spent most of my time so far living at a kennel. I get scared when meeting new people, but soon all I want is to be the centre of attention! My foster family is working hard to introduce me to my new life that I know I’m going to love. If you are looking for an active, albeit timid guy, maybe I could be your new furever friend?

Northern Alberta Society for Animal Protection (NASAP) Hello, I’m Timber! Though I’m a bit wobbly at times, I do pretty well with only 3 legs. I’m a very snuggly boy and I love to rub up against you non-stop. I also love to have my belly rubbed. I get along well with friendly cats and respectful children. I can’t wait to get my own forever home!
I’m Maggie. I am a young mother and my kittens are now weaned; most have been adopted. I am extremely affectionate and quiet. I love to play with toys and adore being adored! I don’t care for the company of other cats or dogs, so I’m looking for a home where I can be your one and only!
This big boy is me, Lovey! I’m about 3-4yrs old and a little shy at first but I warm up quickly. Soon enough I will be crawling on you and begging for your love and attention. I’m a wonderful lap cat and would do great with children. I’m all set for my forever home!
Hi, I’m Peanut! I am a 1yr old, easy to get along with torti…unless you’re a cat of course! However, give me a good scratching post and some liver treats now and then and you will be in my good books forever. I like all sorts of attention, from curling up on the couch to playing cat and mouse.
My name is Misty. I’m a 7yr old sweetheart who loves to play and roll around in laps. I was rescued this spring after spending two cold winters outdoors. I’m healthy and love being back in the human world getting attention in the warm comfort of the indoors.
Greetings! I’m Evette. I am a very petite and playful 1yr old. I have a soft temperament and I love affection. I adore getting attention from people and wrapping myself up in blankets to fall asleep. I would make a great addition to any family!
Hey everyone, Lucas here. I’m a smart and well behaved Labrador Retriever. I’m playful and energetic like any puppy of 6mths, and I know all my basic commands. I am good around other dogs, cats and small children. I’m also house and crate trained. I don’t like to say I’m perfect, but lots of the two leggers say I’m pretty close!
Hello! Brodie here. I’m a handsome, 1yr old, cute as a button, Pomeranian/ Whippet X. I have lots of energy for a small package -in which good things do come! I would love an active family and dog to play with, as well as lots of mental stimulation. I am housetrained, smart, love to learn and listen well. I enjoy car rides, the off leash park, getting tummy rubs and snuggling on the bed at night.
Hullo everybody my name is Charlee! I am a loving and energetic boy who enjoys cuddling. I am nearly 1yr old, weigh about 30lbs and I’m good around other dogs, cats and children. I’m also crate and house trained. I’m a happy bouncy boy (my nickname is Tigger!) and I need an owner who will show me leadership and love me forever.
Hi, my name is Copper and I am a handsome 2yr old Coonhound X. I’m house trained and I know all my basic commands (with great recall!). I’m good natured, affectionate, and although fascinated by the cats I haven’t tried to hurt them. I’m best suited to a home with older children that can also provide me with the daily exercise I need.

How to Estimate the
Age of Dogs in Human Years Dog years in human terms
Druid (front cover & page 3) I’m close to 90lbs and 8 years young... “Hey, I’m a baby boomer!”
The old adage that one ‘dog’ year equalled seven ‘human’ years was quite a generalization. The size of the dog plays a large role in determining the relative age of a dog in human years, as you can see from the table below. Those ages depicted in gray signify a ‘senior’ dog, while those in blue would be ‘geriatric.’ One must realize these are rather arbitrary classifications and not set in stone.
Q. How do I determine how old my dog is? A. Determining the age of a dog Except in young dogs, determining the age of a dog is an ‘educated guess,’ at best. The age of puppies less than 7 months of age can be determined by which temporary and permanent teeth are present. Using radiographs (x-rays), the presence or absence of growth areas of the bones in young dogs (up to about one year of age) can help determine age. Radiographs are rarely taken for this purpose, however. In older dogs, age is generally estimated by the wear on the teeth. Unfortunately, this can be influenced by the size and breed of the dog, the dog’s diet and chewing habits, the shape and positioning of the jaws, and the amount of dental care the dog has received. Graying of the hair is not a good indication of age – some animals begin to gray at 3 or 4 years of age. 8

Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) My name is Nancy and I am a lopeared rabbit. Volunteers say I am a wonderful, quiet bunny that is really easy to handle. I have to agree because I try my best to be very well mannered! I have been at the shelter since December 2008 so I am very eager to find a loving, permanent home. I’m Tycoon, a 2yr old Coonhound/ Catahoula X with different coloured eyes. I get along with other dogs but have difficulties understanding boundaries with small children. I am looking for a family to keep up with me! I have tons of energy to burn. I’ll run for miles, chase balls for hours and still want to play! Hi, my name is Emerald and I am a sweet 2yr old girl with the most beautiful yellow eyes. Volunteers say that I am very gentle, extremely affectionate and love attention. When you pet me I can’t help but purr! I have been at the EHS since January and I am anxious to find the perfect home.

Hinton & District SPCA My name is Lady and I came to the SPCA when my owner died. I am about 9yrs old which makes me difficult to adopt. People seem to always want the younger dogs or pups, which makes things really hard for a sweet girl like me. I am good on leash and love to ride in cars, especially convertibles! Where’s the ball? Where’s the ball? It’s me Chase! I am a female Whippet X who loves toys. I am not real keen on other female dogs and can be possessive of my property and family. I really want an active and loving new family.
Yes, it’s me Zyra and I am still here. Sometimes it feels like all my friends get adopted but me! I am a 1yr old Coon Hound/Shepherd X and I am good on leash. I really enjoy running in the park with my friends and can’t wait to have a new family to love me forever… and ever…and ever!!! If running, biking and being active in general is your thing I could be your dog! My name is Lykra and I love to be on the go. I am a 1yr old Husky and I would love to meet you. Hello, my name is Sherman. I am so cute and loving. I get along well with most other dogs but I do have a mind of my own. Some might say I am pig-headed, but really I just beat to my own drum! I am a little strong on leash but I am getting better.
I am a super cute and high energy puppy named Java! What breed am I? Only my mother knows for sure but I likely have some Shepherd in me. I am about 4-5mths old and still teething -which means I chew. Having a puppy is not easy but I know I’m worth it!
Howdy! I am a very cute 9mth old Australian Shepherd! My name is Cher and I love, love, love, people, but other dogs…not so much. I am very affectionate, bright and good on leash. I am hoping to be adopted soon by a loving family I can call my own!

Forget Me Not Cat Sanctuary My name is Dixie and I am about 3yrs old. I like people’s company and being petted but I’m not much of a cuddler. I am very quiet but do still have a playful streak in me. I need to be the only cat in my new home. Maybe it could be yours? Hi. My name is Hailey. I am one of the girls from a beautiful litter of 5 kittens born in June/2008. I’m a very pretty grey and white short hair girl. Some of us have already been adopted and some of us are still looking for our forever homes. I am soo sweet and love being cuddled. I am very quiet and laid back and would do best in a quiet home. Do you have one for me? Hi there. I’m Sammy. I am about 1yr old and a big fluffy male. I am all black with one white whisker. I was terrified of everything when I came to my foster Mom’s but am doing great now. While I don’t like to be held, I am very affectionate and loving. I would do best in a home with lots of company or a companion to play with, but not dogs. I am still very playful and love to chase toys. I am ready to go to my new home. Could that be yours?
Ellie here! I was cared for by a kind-hearted volunteer from the sanctuary. She took me into her home until there was room for me to stay with the other adoptable kittens and cats at the sanctuary. I’m a little survivor under a year old and rather independent, so it has been great for me to learn to live and share with the others. Even though I act tough sometimes and give a little hiss to the bigger cats, I’m really a marshmallow at heart, and love to be petted and cuddled. I would make someone a true blue and very pretty companion. Terra is the name. I am about 8mths old, female and a beautiful dilute calico. I have personality plus and a great motor when I am being cuddled. I love to play and can run circles around the best of them. I do enjoy my quiet times too though. While I tolerate the other cats around here, I would prefer to have a home all to myself. How about yours?
Hi there! My name is Felix and I am looking forward to having my own home. I am about 2yrs old and I was surrendered to an animal hospital with an injured leg. The kind vet fixed up my leg and sent me to the sanctuary to get better. My coat is silver gray and the girls here think I’m quite striking. I am a very friendly guy who loves affection and a warm lap to curl up in. Could that be yours? I’m Maggie and I’m from a litter of the best behaved kittens that you ever did meet. Some of us are still looking for our forever homes. Our brother Whiskers, was adopted by a wonderful family and even though I used to depend on him to venture into things first, I’m now learning to check things out for myself. I am a dainty little girl and new situations and places leave me a little timid at first, but given a chance to get to know and trust you, I become my little year old affectionate self.

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) I’m a 2yr old Collie X named Sabre. I have been great with other dogs but not sure on those cat things yet. I am very well behaved but do get into the odd mitt or shoe. Usually I just like to collect them, not destroy them! I am smart, great off leash and listen well. I also love toys!
Hi! I’m a very large, and super sweet, boy named Coach. People say I am shy so I need a patient and loving home. I do a special dance each time I see people I care for and I have been great with other dogs (and even cats). I’m learning what a leash is and I’m fairly laid back.
My name is Nicky and I am a young Shep/Collie X who was abandoned in a northern rural community. It didn’t take long before I got myself into trouble and ended up with nine precious pups. I am quite shy, gentle and a good mother. I am protective over my babies, but I know it’s time for them to find homes of their own. Speaking of which, it’s high time I find a loving family of my own too.

I am a Lab X named Mason. I have had some trauma to my jaw at some point but don’t worry about me, I had some teeth removed and I’m just dandy! I am great with people and like other dogs (I prefer the girls of course). I do a splendid happy dance and love to go for walks.

A Gang of Greys Arrive In Edmonton! Hey y’all! We just arrived in Canada from the U.S. We are retired and between the ages of 2-7yrs. We met after traveling to the Halfway Home for Greyhounds (an adoption kennel in Kansas). Some of us were lucky enough to continue on, but a few of us waited for months before we could complete our trip. Next we traveled on a hauler (it’s sort of like a giant horse trailer with crates instead of stalls) to Couer d’Alene, Idaho where we met volunteers from Chinook Winds. From there we drove over the border into BC and spent a week in quarantine. It sounds bad, but really it was a lot of fun. We all hung out together and got lots of playtime in a big, grassy field! We were then driven to Alberta where we were bathed and finally met our foster families (yippee!). These nice people are teaching us all about retirement. We are learning about dog beds, mirrors, big windows, stairs, walks, and other pets. It’s been so exciting! I’ve heard my foster folks whispering about “spays and neuters”, whatever that means. I don’t get it, but I hear that after that’s done we will get to find forever families of our very own!
Do you like Candy? Then you’ll love me -I’m as sweet as my name! I love walks, car rides, stuffies, runs in the yard (or better, a rink), treats and cuddles! I don’t like cats or being stuck at home when I’ve nothing to see or do. I am 5.5yrs old, love kids and enjoy other dogs. I’m a retired 8.5yr old racer named Tom. I was in a home but the baby stressed me out when it cried. I knew something was wrong but I couldn’t fix it, so I stayed in the bedroom. Now I’m in a quiet home with another Greyhound, no kids & lots of routine -I just LOVE it!

PAWS For Life My name is Tater and I am 1-3yrs old. I live to up my breed…I am the King. I love hanging out with my friends in doggie daycare, love being picked up for cuddles, and love playing with my human friends. Words can not explain how adorable I truly am.
Hi, my name is Trigger. I am a sweet young Border Collie X that is one handsome devil. I would be a great dog for a family that could give me a “job” to do. I love playing dog sports -agility, flyball, or disc, it doesn’t matter to me! Let’s go play!
I’m a bit shy so I need a little time before I am willing to trust, but just give me a little space and we will be best friends soon! I’m a 1.5yr old, eager to please, Bull Mastiff X named Sadie. I need a patient family willing to work with me. I love playing with balls!
My name is Zipper and I am a Corgi X that is roughly 1yr old. I love to be the center of attention and need a family that has lots of time to spend with me. I have not yet lived in a foster home but spent the weekend camping with a volunteer and had tons of fun.
Hi there, my name is Timmy because I was really timid when I first came to PAWS but now I am the life of the party. I love playing with my dog friends, getting cuddles from everyone, and being the center of attention. I need a little time to trust new people, but once I know you everything is A-OK!
Hello there, my name is Theodore (Theo for short) and I am roughly 8mths old. My foster family thinks I am a Terrier X. I am pretty shy until you get to know me and then I am full of love! I need a home that has another dog that can help me with my potty training.
(780) 471-2275 Safe Haven Animal Rescue Edmonton Society (SHARES) My name is Neveah and I am about 10mths old. I came with my brother Joey. I am a bit more reserved than him but I still love to be loved! I am good with other cats and dogs, litter trained and love being cuddled. I am a 1yr old playful boy named Quinn and I love people. I stand about 30” at the shoulder and have different colored eyes. Other dogs are ok but I get too excited about the whole cat thing. I’m eager to please and good in the house but I do not like crates…maybe I could come to work with you?

I’m Sven and I’m about 10mths old. I am a typical energetic and social pup who loves to play with other dogs. I am crate and house trained, travel well, behave well off leash and I am fine with the cat. I resemble a Lab but have the Sharpei height and muzzle.
My name is Ranger. I weigh about 60lbs (30” at shoulder) and I’m extremely affectionate, sweet natured, potty trained and good with other dogs and cats. I know my basic commands and will do anything for a treat or attention. I get VERY excited when I meet new people.
My name is Quills because of my encounter with one of those silly porcupines! I am about 10mths old, very affectionate, easy going, calm and eager to please. I am always close by (or underfoot!), potty and crate trained, and great with other dogs…but I do obsess over the cat, so no cats please!
My name is Kane, I am 2yrs old and always ready to play. I am well behaved, know my basic commands, am crate and potty trained, good with other dogs and cats and travel well. I like to follow you around everywhere and would love a home with older dog experienced children (8yrs+).

Duke & Duchess Animal Rescue Society Judging from my looks you might think I’m a calendar dog. Well I’m not! I’m just your regular friendly guy. My name is Kenai and I am a 3.5yr old Collie/Husky X looking for a loving forever home. I’m good with dogs, cats and kids. A home with another doggie playmate would be preferred. I’m house trained and know my basic commands. Hello! I’m a happy go lucky 8wk old Shepherd X. They call me Benny and my tail wags all the time. I love playing with other puppies and have a very sweet nature. I would fit in perfectly with a family who has plenty of time and patience for puppy love.

What’s In The Stars For Your Pets This Month? Aries: March 21 - April 19 This month you should leave it all up to the stars. Your tendency may be to lead, but trying to direct traffic this month will be like herding cats! Do your best to relax, sit back, observe the herd and go with the flow. Taurus: April 20 - May 20 If you are feeling ruffled under the feathers about your comfort level lately remind your people that you depend on them to meet all of your needs. Obviously, for the pampered loving Taurus pet, this includes 5star bedding!
Prairie Animal Rescue Society (PARS) I am just “Aces” in my foster mommy’s books! I am shy but cuddly, very good natured and look like I might end up being a pretty big girl when I’m all grown up. I am a 3mth old Lab crossed with something BIG! Oh yes, and my name is Bunny.
If cute and sweet is what you are looking for, then look no further, I am a small 35lb-ish Doberman X named Gwenny. I love kids, cats and other dogs. I am 2yrs old, have a keen sense of adventure and love to follow you everywhere.
Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to get her poor doggie a bone, when she got there the cupboard was bare, so the poor little doggie had none. Hey there! My name is Bugel and I love kids, cats, and dogs. Do you have a bone and room in your heart for me?

Gemini: May 21 - June 20 Spirits soar in the warm sun so nurse yours with a day outside! Head for the river valley, hang in the yard or go swim in the lake. If you’re indoors find a sunny window or doorway to laze around and sun your tummy in. Cancer: June 21 - July 22 Outdoor shenanigans are heading your way when friends come by to den up in your home for a visit. A little caution won’t hurt any of you this month so please think twice before adventuring out back in the alley. Leo: July 23 - August 22 It’s easy to get all wrapped up in others around us but it’s time to keep your snout in your own backyard! Spending too much time evaluating others leaves you no time to figure out yourself. Virgo: August 23 - September 22 Quit pushing your luck with the easy prey in your neck of the woods. Just because someone let’s you bully them doesn’t mean you should...besides everyone has their limits and eventually even a worm will turn! Libra: September 23 - October 22 You Libra pets are known to be quite loving towards your family and friends, but also somewhat sensitive. Your social circle loves you so don’t let them get your goat or they will call you crazy as a June Bug! Scorpio: October 23 - November 21 With the kids out of school at the end of June things will be getting crazy -crazy fun that is!!! Be patient, they will be home with you again very soon and before long you will be tired out and ready for the fall semester. Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21 Try to avoid gossiping this month it may land you in some hot spots! Unless it’s your news, it’s not yours to talk about. Besides, at the end of the day everyone still likes to hear it all straight from the horse’s mouth. Capricorn: December 22 - January 19 Often it’s hard for Capricorn pets to let others know when they feel wronged. That’s too bad, the sooner you realize you’re the only true voice in your corner the better. If you have a burr under your saddle then speak up! Aquarius: January 20 - February 18 Remember the importance of your family pack this month, in particular the alpha male as it will mean a lot to him. Come Fathers Day there will be extra time for special moments with the pack...and even bonus treats! Pisces: February 19- March 20 Pisces pets are fairly trusting so it’s often hard to stay on alert. However, this month others may be calculating against you so be cautious...and no it’s not the vet so absolutely no excuses on missing your annual exam and vaccines!
