pet rescue magazine

Welcome to PRM! This issue, as always, we are full of a wide selection of rescued pets available for adoption and desperately needing new homes. Our team is involved in assisting various rescue groups in their efforts and we know first hand that everyone is bursting at the seams and that most organizations are still being forced daily to turn away animals in need of rescue. Please consider adopting from one of these organizations instead of purchasing a pet and spread the word! We find that most Albertans are quite supportive of pet rescue, especially after they realize what a huge population problem there currently is. With so many thousands of pets being disposed of each year it is truly high time we all step up and create some change. How can you create change? We are thrilled you want to know! Let’s start with the basics, the stuff that anyone and everyone could do! * Spay & Neuter your pet and educate /encourage others to do the same. Talk to friends and family and find out where they stand. * Support rescue organizations. Give where you can whether it is your home & heart to foster, your time to volunteer, donating old pet supplies, a financial donation or even your written/verbal support. * Get and stay informed! Research regulations/bylaws/statistics and get to know local rescue groups & shelters. Ask questions and take note of businesses that support animal rescue. Everyone can do something. Let’s get some pawsitive movement happening!! Have fun & don’t forget to visit us on Facebook! The PRM Team August/September 2011

Beagle Paws Rescue

Come check us out on September 11 for “Beagle Mania” at the Oliver Community Park on 118 Street and 103 Avenue.

Are you looking for a buddy for walks in the summer sun or snuggles on cold winter nights? Then look no further. My name is Clancey (or Mr. Clancey Fancy Pants!) and I am 5yrs old. I am a calm, sweet, playful, goodlooking and loveable Beagle who would love to share special moments with you.

My name is Lola. I am a very good and easy to please girl but I need a home where I won’t be left by myself too much. I know that’s a tall order with everyone working these days but I’d be a really wonderful companion for a retired couple. I also don’t bark too much.

My name is Lucy and I am a self-assured & confident girl who loves to be the centre of attention. I like to share, especially if it’s yours that you are sharing with me! If you are looking for a lifelong companion, look no further, I may be your perfect match.

My name is Molly and I love my people but I’m pretty content with my own company too. I’m not an “in your face” kind of dog that demands attention but I’m still social, loving and really good with children. Unlike most Beagles, I do like to fetch and I’d love a family that has time to play.

Working with T Partners to

“Fix”

Edmonton’s Cat Problem

he City of Edmonton, Animal Care & Control Centre is piloting a City-sponsored TrapNeuter-Release (TNR)initiative in Edmonton. Recently, City staff met with a local organization that is trying to humanely reduce the number of feral cats by capturing them, spaying or neutering them, and then returning them back into the community. Edmonton’s Animal Care & Control Centre is trying to balance saving the cats’ lives with reducing the impact these animals have on the community. On average, 4,500 stray cats come into the City’s Animal Care & Control Centre each year. Pet cats are housed from 3-10 business days till an owner can be found to reclaim them. Edmonton has seen a huge increase in stray and abandoned cats admitted to the Centre. Only 11% return to owners. About 30% of cats are transferred to the Edmonton Humane Society for adoption. Feral cats are a different story. They are most often euthanized. The City of Edmonton estimates that the total domestic cat population in Edmonton is roughly 80,000 owned cats. Feral cat population studies show that a community’s feral cat population will range from 67 to 100% of the domestic cat population. Given the City’s estimates of domestic cat population there is an estimated 44,000 feral cats in Edmonton. The present situation in Edmonton needs to be resolved. Trap-Neuter-Return is a program that has proven effective at controlling cat populations in many communities across North America. TNR involves three steps; trapping cats at the neighbourhood level; neutering/spaying, vaccinating and IDing these animals; and returning them to their territory. Here they are then fed, sheltered and monitored on an ongoing basis by a designated caretaker. Managing the cats significantly reduces their nuisance behaviors in a community. The cats live out their lives, and as they no longer can breed, soon their numbers decline. The City of Edmonton Animal Care & Control Centre plans to pilot the TNR program with our community partner in a variety of neighbourhoods. Piloting a TNR program in Edmonton is just one step toward a safe and clean city for people and pets. Watch for more information about this program in upcoming months. prm

Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (BARS) Hello there, I’m Gracie and I am a Schnauzer/Doberman/ Shep X. I love playing with my sister Sydney and meeting new people & animals. I have lots of energy and I’ve been told that I am very smart since I can already sit and I’m learning to shake a paw.

Hello, my name’s Oliver and I am a very handsome boy. When I’m not busy picking up radio frequencies with my ears I like to hang out with my siblings and play until I just can’t play anymore! I’m very affectionate and love to be around people as often as possible.

Good day mate, my name’s Sydney. I’m a Schnauzer/Doberman/ Shep X who loves to spend the day playing and locating my next willing cuddle buddy. Like my sister Gracie I can already sit and I’m learning to shake a paw.

My name is Tinkerbell, and you may think I am a girl but due to a little gender confusion I am actually a boy. Nevertheless, Tinkerbell is a name I wear proudly! I am a sweet tempered guy looking for a loving home. Do you have room in your home, heart & lap for me?

Zoe’s the name and being cute is my game! I enjoy lazy afternoons, running around with my siblings and having a comfy lap to sleep on. If you are interested in adopting me I will get my bags packed right away …and don’t worry I travel light!

My name is Teddy. I am a Japanese Chin so I do require some brushing to keep me looking handsome. I am well mannered and already house & leash trained, but I do not like to be left alone. I also get along with other well behaved pets & children.

My name is Clyde. My siblings and I had a pretty rough start and we were not socialized very well so I am a little timid. I need a new mommy and daddy that have patience and understanding. I am a good boy who loves to romp around and sometimes likes to be a tad mischievous.

I am adorable and have such an easy going disposition. I love to snuggle and I am already potty trained. When I find my furever home, I would love to go to puppy school because I’m smart and eager to learn. My real mom is a Retriever/Shep X and my dad is a Schnauzer/Doberman.

With the Angels

S

hylo, was the PRM cover girl on our last issue. Who knows where her life began, but wherever her travels took her, she ended up homeless during the Slave Lake fire. Nobody came looking for Shylo, a pretty 14 month old pup. She was rescued by Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) and then, thanks to the Hinton SPCA, transferred into their care. Anyone in rescue will tell you that many dogs and cats face incredible hardship in their lives, and some never have the opportunity to find a person or organization that cares about their welfare, or provides love and comfort in their last hours. Sadly, Shylo found her second chance but it was not to be, she passed away peacefully of natural causes soon after arriving in Hinton. We send our thoughts to the staff at Hinton SPCA and all those who cared for this sweet rescued dog.

Hinton & District SPCA My name is Bella and I am 2yrs old. I am a Border Collie X and if you are looking for a mouser – I am totally your girl! I love to play, however in my enthusiasm I have been known to knock small children over.

Boo! That’s me. I am a 4mth old Collie X who can’t wait to find her very own home. I can be a little shy but I warm up pretty quick once I get to know you. I also walk very well on leash, especially for a puppy.

I am a 4mth old Collie X named Honey…clearly I am super sweet! I am very inquisitive and should be easy to train because I am pretty treat motivated. Do you have some love to spare for a little girl like me?

My name is Gemma and I am a 4mth old Shepherd X. I LOVE to play with my canine buddies and I am a very sweet little girl. How about we meet sometime soon… could you bring me some treats please?

Hi there Toby here! Yes, you may recognise me from last time, but I have a new name. I am a ridiculously handsome Husky with gorgeous eyes. You should really come to visit and check me out!

Everyone calls me Cash. I am about 1yr old and everyone says I am a beautiful Husky X. I have a fantastic temperament and will make a wonderful addition to any family. I am also good with other dogs.

My name is Shara and I am a very sweet girl. I am a Shepherd/Collie X in need, and well deserving, of a very good home. I am good girl, very well socialized with other dogs, and I could play with you for hours!

My name is Cherry and I am 6 mths old. I am a very sweet and playful Retriever/ Shepherd X. I get along well with others and love to romp around with my friends. May I come and romp around at your place?

Spay Neuter Action Program My name is Milly and I am just turning 1yr old. I was rescued from under a trailer along with my six babies. I am very gentle & quiet, and I love people and other animals. I also adore attention but I’m not demanding about it! I’m not one to toot my own horn, but (toot! toot!) I am also quite a looker!

Howdy, my name is Watson and I want to be your sidekick. I am a very handsome 7mth old Belgian Shepherd/Heeler X and my two siblings and I were born last winter to our homeless mom. Everyone says I have great potential, and I really want to be part of a family! As Sherlock Holmes says of me, “I am a faithful friend”.

Hi there.....my name is Mag and I am a 2yr old cool cat. I am very loving, kind and social. I get along with everyone! I was returned to SNAP because there were too many cats in my previous home but I am a great friend and wonderful companion.

Whoa! Thought you’d never find me, didn’t you? My name is Sydney and I’m a 7mth old Belgian Shepherd/Heeler X. I am loaded with character and come with all the options you are looking for in a mid-size model. My mother was homeless but my dad’s owner’s rescued my siblings and I and now we are ready to be part of a real family.

My name is Tabitha and I am a beautiful & healthy 11yr old lady. Unfortunately my forever family had to give me up because Granny had some allergies. I would be best suited in a mature home where I can talk a lot. I need to be indoors because I have been declawed but your furniture is safe with me!

Hey there! My name is Thumbs because I have an extra thumb on each front paw, but I’m not all thumbs - I’m all love! I am very gentle and affectionate, and I don’t even take out my claws when playing. My family had financial problems and lost their home so they had to leave my siblings and me at the pound.

I’m Bethany. I am around 2-2.5yrs old and everyone says I am a real sweetheart. I just had my hair done in a very exotic lion cut and I feel grrrreat! I am very friendly and would be well suited to almost any loving home. I promise I won’t take up much room…the only thing I’ll pack is my feather toy!

Hi! I’m Bailey… hmmmm…where do I start? I was adopted from SCARS as a young puppy only to be returned some years later because I was not getting along with the other dogs at my house, but there is a good explanation for that. It was discovered, at just 4 years old, that I have hip dysplasia, arthritis and Spondylosis (a condition that affects the joints in my spine) so when the other dogs jumped on me it really hurt. I still have plenty of bounce left but I will need medication (which is only $15.00 per month) to ensure that I stay comfortable. I am very touchy about my hips so I need a home with no other pets or young children. I am very affectionate and love to be around people. My foster mom says I am a dream on a leash which is good because I still need some daily exercise to keep my joints limber. I know a lot of commands and I am very eager to learn more as long as I am able to comfortably do what you ask me to. I really love being brushed, going for walks, and just hanging out on the couch with you. I have a lot of love to give and truly deserve a special & loving family. I am looking for a home that will ensure my quality of life and who understands my medical limitations. If this sounds like you please don’t hesitate or put me off too long. I could be your perfect match! My name is ZsaZsa. I need to work on my jumping up a little but otherwise I’m a pretty great gal. I am good with other dogs, crate trained, and I do well on & off leash. I think my dominant breeds are Collie & Pointer –what a perfect combo!

I’m Baaack! My name is Bhodi and I am about 8mths old. I did not fit well into my family’s home as I am a bit nervous and shy (especially with men) but I’m still a great dog! I am very well trained, good with cats, and I love other dogs. I also really enjoy the off leash park.

They call me Bella because I’m the prettiest gal around. I am so happy to finally have a warm bed and regular meals, and I like to show it all the time. I did bark at the cat but have not shown any signs of chasing or aggression. I am quickly learning to sit and I’m eager to please. My name is Sara and I am a little bundle of love. I like playing with the other dogs and usually stay close by my people. I know how to sit and I already play fetch...although I’m not sure I understand completely! I am interested in the cat but I haven’t shown signs of aggression.

ing me forever and that I would never see my parents again. I panicked and tried to get out of the house to go and find them. I barked and barked and jumped at the doors and windows. I don’t know what got into me! I was just in a frenzy because I was so terrified! In my foster home with SCARS, I never really felt alone because the cats were there to keep me company but in my new home, I was all by my lonesome! My mom and dad figured that after a couple days I would get used to being left alone, but I just couldn’t control my anxiety.

y name is Indy and I’m a very happy guy! I’ve been in my forever home since April 2008. My mom and dad think I’m just the best because I listen, I’m well behaved, and I’m pretty goofy! My favorite things are chasing a ball around the yard, to go to the dog park, or to wrestle with my dad! I haven’talways had this great attitude though… When my mom and dad adopted me 12

from SCARS, I was so happy to have parents to love me and a warm place to call home even though I was a little scared of men and didn’t want to play with people. After a couple days of chilling out in my new home, my mom and dad decided to leave me alone for a little while and that’s when things got really scary for me! Because I had been abandoned as a puppy, I thought that they were leav-

August/September 2011

When my mom and dad left for work, I would bark and pace all day. I would be so worried that I would drool, pee, poop, chew, jump up, and whine all day. After a couple days, my mom and dad brought me to a doctor, bought a crate (the collapsible kind), and started leaving the radio on when they left. This didn’t really soothe me and since I was so panicked, I broke out of my kennel very quickly and proceeded to wreck my new house (again!). By this time, my new parents who loved me so much wondered if and how I would ever be able to stay with them. They made the decision that they had to get more help but if I didn’t get better soon, I would have to go back to SCARS. This was really hard for them because they knew that I only worried when I was by myself. When they were home with me, I was a very good boy because that’s just me! My parents sought the help of a behaviorist who recommended a stronger kennel, lots of training, and eventually some medication. Anxiety medication takes a while to kick in so until it started working, my mom and dad had to medicate me so that I’d sleep all day so I wouldn’t hurt myself trying to escape my new crate. Because the veterinarian didn’t give the right dosage of medicine, I didn’t go to sleep on the first day and I broke out of the strongest crate that money local stories...local people...local pets

can buy. My mom was so upset that she called the doctor to ask what happened but my doctor told her to give me back because she didn’t think that rescued dogs could get any better! At that point, my mom got mad! She called my foster mom who referred me to a different doctor (who sure knows his stuff !). Dr. Meger and the staff at Whitemud Creek Veterinary Clinic had seen dogs like me before (Dr. Meger and Dr. Misaszek both have dogs who get scared like I do!) and knew that there was hope for me! With the support that they needed and a lot of hope, my parents continued being patient with me, giving me my medication, lots of exercise and training. About a month later, I was able to stay at home in my kennel without being sedated! I wouldn’t bark or drool and best of all, I wasn’t so tired from the medicine. I still take my anxiety meds but they don’t affect my goofy personality at all. They just help me keep my cool when I’m alone during the day. I still love going to see Dr. Meger (boy do they ever spoil me there!) and my mom and dad made sure to be strict with training, so I guess that’s why people always tell me that I’m such a good boy! Even though today my tail doesn’t stop wagging (ever!) it was sometimes hard for my mom and dad to have hope that I would be a normal dog. I’m so glad that they did have that hope and that they loved me enough to help my through my troubles. I know that lots of my rescued buddies have been injured physically and need to heal but it’s important to know that guys like me with emotional issues can heal too. Today, I still worry a little bit when I’m left alone during a loud thunderstorm or when a loud truck passes me on a walk but I’m really a normal dog. I survived moving to a new house last year without any panic attacks and I’m sure I’ll be just fine in a few months when my new little ball-thrower is born! I’m going to be the best big brother ever! My mom and dad know that it sounds weird but they know that I’m grateful. I just hope that more of my rescued buddies can have happy stories like mine! prm local stories...local people...local pets

FACTS ABOUT DOGS AND HOT CARS... on a car’s internal temperature. Already this year, RedRover has received reports of dogs like Snuggle, a Maltese/Lhasa Apso who was locked in a car while her owner visited a Tampa, Florida amusement park. When Snuggle was rescued, the temperature inside the car was more than 32 degrees and her core temperature was nearly 41 degrees. FACTS ABOUT DOGS AND HOT CARS...

What happens to dogs left in hot cars? Exposure to excessive heat causes the body’s cells to stop working properly and release dangerous chemicals, which can lead to nerve damage, heart problems, liver damage, brain damage and even death. Essentially, all of the dog’s organ systems shut down at once.

“O

ften people leave their dogs in the car while they shop or run errands, but doing so when the weather is warm can literally be a death sentence for your pet,” said RedRover President and CEO Nicole Forsyth. Forsyth offered five reasons why leaving a dog in a hot car can be deadly:

1. Dogs are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness because they can only cool off by panting and through the pads in their feet. 2. Even on seemingly mild days, an enclosed car can be deadly. In a Stanford University study, when it was 22 degrees outside, a car’s internal temperature climbed to 46 degrees within one hour. 3. Enclosed cars heat up quickly. In a study by San Francisco State University, when it was 26 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car rose to 37 degrees in 10 minutes and 42 degrees in 20 minutes. 4. A dog’s normal body temperature is between 38 to 39.2 degrees; a dog can only withstand a high body temperature for a short time before suffering nerve damage, heart problems, liver damage, brain damage or even death. 5. Studies show that cracking the windows has little effect 14

Signs a dog is suffering from a heat-related illness include: • Excessive panting • Excessive drooling • Increased heart rate • Trouble breathing • Disorientation • Collapse or loss of consciousness • Seizure • Respiratory arrest What should people do if they see a dog in a hot car? If the dog looks distressed (see above signs of heat-re lated illness), call the police, the local animal control agency or 911 right away. Leave your name and phone number with the person who takes the call in case the responding officers need more information. t doesn’t matter which responsible pet guardian one talks to, the conversation always boils down to spay/neuter and its affordability. So there has never been a better time to announce the opening of a new family pet clinic which appreciates that responsible pet owners are looking to spay/neuter their pets without it “breaking the bank” so to speak.

Being involved in rescue by way of donating time and veterinary expertise to “Mash” style spay/neuter initiatives (on First Nation lands) the veterinarians of this clinic understand there is a way, through affordable spay/neuter services, to help curb the pet population growth in our own city. My name is Frank and I am a young, social & friendly paint colt. I am gentle, able to be haltered and lead, and I like children. I am nearly a year old and filling out more each day but since I was malnourished it takes a little extra time for me to shed out my coat. I am ready & willing to learn and looking for a forever home that will take me in and love me forever!

New Beginnings Rabbit Rescue Hello! My name is Silverbells and I am an American Chinchilla Rabbit X. I am stunning – and I know it! Like so many other bunnies I have been here a very long time. We are in good care but we are really desperate to find homes because there are SOOOO many more bunnies out there that need to be rescued. We are all spayed/neutered and ready to find loving homes...please consider adoption before contributing to population problems by purchasing pets. If I could have one wish it would be for a home...but if I could have two I would definitely wish that people would stop abandoning domestic pets outdoors.

Wish List * Fire wood pellets - used for litter (available at Rona, 45lb bags for approx. $7) * Fresh Veggies - a necessity to keep a rabbit’s GI tract healthy. * Pellets – one bag of alfalfa pellets costs about $17 and lasts a week. * Spay/Neuters – a spay/neuter is about $200 per rabbit. Many unde sirable behaviours in bunnies are caused by hormones. Please consider a donation or credit at our vet! * Chew toys – currently we provide them with phone books & empty toilet papers rolls...but bunny chew toys never last! We say “A toy destroyed is a toy enjoyed.”

Clareview/Casselman Pet Clinic will open its doors the later part of August. This full service pet clinic offers a wide range of veterinary care for your pets, including home visits for those pets whose owners have difficulty making it to the clinic. The clinic is located at 14604 - 50 Street, Edmonton. Appointments are being made as of August 5th, their phone number is 780-757-VETS (8387).

Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation (WHARF) Hi there, my name is Busby and I have the roundest tummy you will ever see! I just LOVE to eat, probably because there wasn’t much food around when I was a baby. I am a sweet little guy who loves to play and snuggle up close. If you have room for my tummy and me please call soon!

Coronita here! I am a fun loving, playful girl that loves absolutely everyone. I like to follow my people around and chat with them often. I get along great with other cats & dogs, and I would love nothing more (except treats and snuggle time!) than to have little kids to play with. Will you be my new home?

They call me Scooter and I am one BIG, sweet & handsome boy. I’m told I may be a Bengal X because of my markings and size. I am 4yrs old but still love to play and when it is bedtime I absolutely have to check in for snuggles and kisses.

Who wants a super duper, extra cute, sweetheart of a kitten named Boris? Well if you do, come and meet me and I will be quick to put a smile on your face and make you laugh. I love other animals and would make a great playmate for children. How about we do lunch?

My name is Pots and I am a nice gentle girl who loves anyone that will let me curl up beside them. I want nothing more than to be close and feel safe. I promise to always listen when you tell me about your day and to always comfort you when you are sad. I am a fantastic companion!

Everyone calls me Jester. I am a Lab/Collie X who is sooo wonderful with almost everything I do. I love to go for walks, run in the yard and then curl up on my dog bed for nap time. I can’t wait to have a family to call my own and spread all the joy and love I have to offer.

I’m Gus. I am a teeny tiny Poodle X who is very loving, outgoing and super sweet. I love to be around people and I get along great with cats and other dogs my size. I am fully trained and I will be a great family pet…hopefully soon! I am also hypo-allergenic as I have hair instead of fur.

I am a sweet natured boy named Achoo. I am 4yrs old and am told that I’m a Collie X. I like to run and play and then lounge in the sun for nap time. I am a sweet boy in the house and if I get my running done outside all I want to do is curl up on the bed. I will ALWAYS greet you at the door, I promise!

I am Persia and I was rescued from an acreage where my owners once lived…but they moved and just left me behind with nothing. I was really sad at first, but once I got all my matt’s cut out, found a bed to sleep on and woke up in the morning to breakfast - I knew what it was like to have a family.

Northern Spirit K9 Rescue My name is Bella and I am 3-4yr old very sweet Pit-bull X who loves everyone. I am a wonderful girl who came from a southern shelter where my time was up. I get along well with other dogs, cats and kids. I have very nice manners, great recall and I am a happy girl who is always smiling when I’m near. I am also already leash, house & crate trained. I am such a grateful little soul and will shower you with kisses to let you know how thankful I am for your love and care.

My name is Keera and I am a young Pitty X just learning the ropes. I am well socialized and would prefer to live with another dog I can learn from. I enjoy cats and I am eager to please my people. I love long walks and even going for runs but I’m not a huge fan of cold weather.

I am a 2yr old Pitty X named Rush. I need plenty of room to run and structured play. I would do great as the only pet with an experienced and patient owner. I have a high prey drive and would likely really benefit from doing agility, fly ball or retrieving classes.

They call me Bonnie and I am 3yrs old. I have typical Pitbull energy and love to give cuddles! I would love a family environment that will keep me exercised and busy. I can hardly wait to find my very own family, but I do need a home without smaller animals.

I am a young Pitbull/Boxer X named Lucas and I need an owner who can keep up with my energy. Strong leadership and daily runs would be ideal! I like other stable dogs and would love a structured dog buddy in my new home to help guide me along.

“Affordable, Flexible, Timeless Travel....That’s Us!” Saving Animals From Euthanasia Team (SAFE Team) I am a wonderful boy named Bageria and I just adore affection. I love to cuddle up next to you while you stroke my beautiful shiny fur. I am a calm quiet kitty, and I adjust well to new situations however I do not do very well with dogs.

My name is Faith. I am a quiet, sweet & friendly girl with bright eyes that will capture your heart...and if that doesn’t work just wait until you see me play with my toys! I can entertain myself for hours but do prefer to keep 4 paws on the ground.

They call me Hope and I am a little sweetheart. I am independent, but sure do enjoy getting my ears and chin scratched. My favorite time of the day is treat time! I am a Manx with no tail and a heart of gold.

Hello everyone! My name is Lexus and I am a laid back girl who is pretty well up for anything. I don’t seem to mind other cats and I LOVE getting attention. I do take a little time to settle in but once I do you will have a best friend for life.

Everyone calls me Patches. I am an affectionate furball who loves nothing more than to cuddle up in your arms to be held. I am a calm and happy kitten and do very well with other cats. I also love my cat tree - especially for afternoon naps.

My name is Jessy and I just love being the main attraction. I will follow you around looking for cuddles and talking the whole way... I have lots of fantastic stories! I am a happy & curious kitten who really enjoys playing with my toy mice and jingle balls.

Fort McMurray SPCA My name is Zango. I am easy going, but still love my share of affection. I am sweet but savvy, and a staff favorite so I’ve been told! I have been living at the shelter for a while now and, don’t get me wrong, it’s been a slice but I really need to find my own place in this world where I can settle in and just be me.

My name is Tommie and my claim to fame is being the #1 cuddler in these parts. I also LOVE belly rubs and hugs. I have been living here since last October and though I’ll miss my shelter friends I kind of think it’s time to bid a farewell and find a home to call my very own.

Trooper here… MEOW! I have been very busy in the cat room keeping the peace & socializing with my feline friends, but I have been feeling a bit depressed lately because I have been here for over 9mths now. A friendly family to call my own would be the cat’s meow and put the spring back in my step.

My lovely blanket and chew toy are both necessities when it’s time for bed. My name is Lady and though I am not great with children I am certainly a lady on a leash and in the home. Fetch is my game of choice. If you think I could be your match please let me know soon because I really want a home.

Splish, splash I was taking a bath! Hey my name is Mack and I am 9yrs old but you would NEVER know it if you met me. I love the water, swimming, bathing…even the sprinkler! Tug-o-war, children and other dogs rank high in my favorites list. I will be a great companion and fit in anywhere.

I am Cheeko and some may say I am a bit cheeky, but the fact is I am exceptionally smart and really don’t have time for those that aren’t. I strive to be the leader of the pack! I love swimming and enjoy affection. If you are smart, confident and have time for a wonderful fellow like me I may be your man.

Paws For Life

I’m a 1-2yr old Jack Russell named Bart and I love to play with all my dog buddies. I’m very good with kids and cats. I have a lot of energy but do enjoy a cuddle on the couch after a day of playing. I’m also very smart and a good listener.

My name is Suzy and I have red hair and beautiful hazel eyes. I am 1-2 yrs old and can be a little timid at first, but after a day or so I am all yours! I am an energetic girl and I love to give kisses, cuddles and even sleep under the blankets if you let me. I also love other dogs and don’t mind cats.

I’m Tibby. I am a 1-2yr old Tibetan Spaniel. I love to play, but I also love to sleep & cuddle. I get along well with other dogs and don’t seem to mind the cats either. I have lots of energy and love tennis balls. I would probably be really good at agility and would love to go jogging.

Hey man… I may be little in size, but I am BIG BIG BIG on cute! My name is Little Guy and I am timid at first, but seriously, look how small I am compared to you! Once I get to know you I will show you that I am really very happy on the inside. I am about 5yrs old and can’t wait to meet you!

I am sponsored by the Siebert family. Thank you!

After many visits to the vet, lots of yummy food, and a foster Daddy that nursed me back to health with lots of love and patience, I am now finally up for adoption!!! My name is Laila and I was rescued near death with over 500 quills in my face and paws that had been left for over a month with no treatment. The world is your dog park! Taurus: April 20 - May 20 Sometimes communication can be tough. Take time to strengthen your bond with your people this month. You never know when you may need that tomcat down the road to catch a mouse or scare away the neighbour’s poodle for you. Capricorn: December 22 - January 19 Now is not the time to take risks. Don’t try to scale that fence as the grass is not always greener on the other side. If you play it safe and don’t tug on your leash this month will be the dogs bark!
