Cover I’m Fraser! I am a beautiful 11wk old kitten. My poor mom gave birth to us in a backyard shed in May. She was quite young herself and unfortunately several of my siblings were stillborn. My brother (Mackenzie) and myself were survivors though! NASAP volunteers picked us all up when we were just hours old and we have done very well in foster care. Now we are both active, playful kittens looking for a home either together or separately. Like most cats, I can be a bit shy in new situations but once I feel comfortable I will cuddle beside you and purr up a storm. For more information about my sweet little self please call NASAP at (780) 922-0250 or visit their website at www.nasap.ca
Fall again, and with the kids back to school and the season changing it is (sadly) time to say goodbye to summer and start preparing for the winter months to come. All pets need shelter, lots of fresh water (many people do not understand that this is really important in ALL seasons!) and proper nutrition, but in our Alberta winters special accommodations must be made if you are intending to keep your pet safe while living outdoors. Besides the normal Fall time concerns of fertilizer, insecticides, chemical products, rodent poison and antifreeze, our weather can be, and often is, a killer. An insulated dog house is a must (with door or wind break), clean & dry blankets must be provided and switched out often to avoid freezing (wool is best), and be sure to have safe and secure accommodations indoors to avoid frostbite (and even death) should we enter a cold snap. If you have an outdoor pet make sure you prepare now rather than causing discomfort or harm to your pet by having to panic on the first snow! And please don’t forget that, although cold for all concerned, our pets still need plenty of interaction and exercise during the colder months too. THE PRM Team

Rachel Sentes Book Review
Classic ReviewTravels with Charlie by John Steinbeck
Fall is the time for new books, but I thought we could revisit a classic about a man and a dog and the life travels they encountered together. Below is a review from 1962, and the book has stood the test of time. Enjoy... A review by Edward Weeks [Ed. Note. This excerpt of this review first ran in the Atlantic Monthly, August 1962.] As his books reveal, John Steinbeck is a writer who is happiest when he gets down to earth. He is a rugged, broad-shouldered, six-foot Californian, born in Salinas, and destined to write his first stories about the Valley. He has the gift of identifying himself passionately with other Americans, with migratory fruit pickers, as in his novel In Dubious Battle, and with the Okies, as in The Grapes of Wrath. He relishes doing things with his own two hands; in a swift self-portrait he writes, “I have always lived violently, drunk hugely, eaten too much or not at all, slept around the clock or missed two nights of sleeping, worked too hard and too long in glory, or slobbed for a time in utter laziness. I’ve lifted, pulled, chopped, climbed, made love with joy and taken my hangovers as a consequence, not as a punishment.” Gradually his career drew him into the success and confinement of Manhattan and Long Island, and it came to him with a shock one day at the age of fifty-eight to realize that not for twenty years had he seen at close hand the country he had been writing about. His new book, Travels with Charley, is a one-man, one-dog account of the expedition in which he recaptures his familiarity with America. He set out with some misgiving, not sure his health would stand up to the 10,000-mile journey he envisioned; as he traveled, the years sloughed off him, and the eager, sensuous pages in which he writes about what he found and whom he encountered frame a picture of our human nature in the twentieth century which will not soon be surpassed. For the trip Mr. Steinbeck wanted a three-quarter-ton truck, and on it a little house built like the cabin of a small boat. He tells in delightful detail of the cabin and of the viands and equipment with which it was stocked. “I had to go alone and I had to be self-contained, a kind of casual turtle carrying his house on his back.” For companionship he took with him Charley, a middle-aged French poodle, and Charley, as we come to know him, is one of the most civilized and attractive dogs in literature. They set off together in Rocinante, as the truck is called, in the early autumn, and they drove north through Connecticut and on to Deerfield, where the writer stopped to say good-bye to his teen-age son, one of “two hundred teen-age prisoners of education just settling down to serve their winter sentence.” This is a book to be read slowly for its savour, and one which, like Thoreau, will be quoted and measured by our own experience. 4

Beagle Paws Rescue A penny for your thoughts, and I sure hope you’re thinking about adopting a nice little girl like me! I’m almost like a brand new penny because I’m just 1yr old. I’ll need lots of walks and playtime to help me wear off some of my puppy energy, and of course because I’m so cute you’ll want to show me off to everyone. Oh boy! There goes one of my Beagle buddies with a ball...I better run and catch him! Hello Beagle Lovers! Visit our website for more information on our Beagle Paws Reunion on September 13th.

Edmonton Reptile & Amphibian Society (ERAS) I am a small, male, Albino Corn Snake. Unfortunately there is no history available on me because I came from Edmonton Animal Control. I’m likely under a year old and I have a typical young fellers appetite. I am healthy and happy but I’d really like to find a nice home where I can be loved forever.

Paw And Claws Animal Rescue We are the Comedians: Cosby, Carey, Whoopi, Carlin and Rudner. We are Lab/Retriever/Who-knowswhat crosses! We are also pretty darn adorable if we do say so ourselves! We were born about 2mths ago and are confident and outgoing puppies. Our mother and older brother both grin, so our new families may really luck out as we may be smilers too!

TAILS from Home.... Dear Rescue Mag, Our newest family member Teri has brought us more joy and love than we ever expected. It was a long road before we got her because of my own misgivings about cost and the added work a Teri in her new home with Connor dog can bring to a family. Spay/Neuter Action Program (SNAP) Hello… Are you there? Is it my turn yet? Me next! Me next! Come read about me! My name is Kalie and I am a 6yr young German Shepherd. I adore people and get along well with other dogs. If you are searching for a beauty like me please call SNAP.
Hi, its Tiggi here again, life has changed for me since you last saw my picture in PRM. Unfortunately I contracted a virus that claimed one of my eyes, but don’t worry I’m all better now. I have adapted very well, it actually hasn’t slowed me down one bit! I’m a wonderful companion, a loyal friend & in need of some TLC as I complete my recovery. If you have room in your heart and home for a special girl like me, please contact SNAP so we can meet.
Hi my name is Treats…no wait actually it’s Mandy, but I do love my treats! I enjoy going on walks and car rides. I love people, other dogs, cats, birds, kids -you name it I like it. I can’t wait to show you how lovable I am. Call about me today! Hi everyone my name is Sneakers. I am an American Eskimo around 5yrs old. I am currently in foster care and get along well with cats, other dogs & children. The best part about me (other than I am super duper sweet and special) is that I am already house trained. I also love to play fetch & I even know all my basic commands. I’m one handsome guy, don’t pass me by!
Well hello there, my name is Sachemo and I am named after the famous Jazz musician. You better sit down because I have a terrible story to tell you. My old family abandoned me outside Petsmart, they just left me in a kennel sitting on the sidewalk before the store opened. I don’t know what I did to deserve such terrible treatment, but I promise you it wasn’t my fault. I’m now safe, sound & doing very well in SNAP’s care. I need a few groceries because I am little thin, and I do need a calm & patient forever home because I am a little scared right now. Who could possibly blame me for being scared after what I’ve been through? I am friendly & social, I just need a little time to adjust to my new surroundings. Do you have it in your heart to love me forever?
Please Spay or Neuter Your Pets Lives Depend On It! 6
Hi my name is Savannah, but everyone at SNAP just calls me Sweetie. I truly am sweet as pie and have a kind disposition. I am a Golden Retriever X and I would love to find my forever family as soon as possible ...could it be you?
Hi there, my name is Mr. Happy and I am a very lovable guy who is a little shy at first, but I warm up really fast. I’m really glad SNAP came to my rescue, because my days were numbered at the pound. I don’t know why they thought I was feral, because I’m the most lovable guy around. I’m currently in foster care with children, other cats & dogs of all sizes and I love them all! My favorite thing to do is cuddle! Hi it’s TAZ here! I am a playful, 6mth old, Lab X. I am friendly, very outgoing and I know some basic commands. I still need some training of course but, hey, who doesn’t? If you can guide me through my energetic puppy stage I will promise you a lifetime of devotion, love & kisses.
Hello, my name is Autumn & I was rescued by SNAP from the pound so very little is known about my past. All you really need to know is that I am just a petite little girl looking for a family to love me. I am very laid back & I have a super sweet disposition. I would love to snuggle with you on the couch while you watch TV. Would you like to snuggle with me?

Duke & Duchess Animal Rescue Society We are Cockapoos (that’s a fancy name for a crossbreed of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle) named Little Lady (left) & Kuna (right). I am 5yrs old and my daughter is 3yrs old. We think cuddling and sitting on laps is what life is all about! We recently went for a spa day and have been fluffed and buffed, had pedicures and even have bows in our hair. We are house trained and would prefer to stay together if possible as we are very close.
My name is Casha and I am an active, 7mth old, Designer X (my mom is a Boxer). My foster mom is also a dog trainer and is doing wonders with teaching me doggy manners...although sometimes I still think I should have my own way because I’m so pretty!
My name is Nettie and my brother, Nico, and I were found walking down the highway at two in the morning when all puppies should be in a warm safe bed. We are about 6wk’s old and love playing. We love having full bowls of food, and we even have things called toys to play with.
I’m Nico! If you want to know anything about me just ask my diva sister Nettie. I’m too busy chasing bugs and digging up my foster mom’s petunias. I love having fun!
Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) My name is “Ashley Abbott”. I was named by an EHS staff member who loves “The Young and the Restless” TV show. I’m a very energetic and loving girl who really likes to please people –especially for treats! I’ve already learned to sit, stay, and shake a paw while spending time with the behaviorists at the EHS. Due to my energy level I would be best in a home with people over 16 years old.
I’m Simba, a 3yr old, very affectionate and sociable boy with a lot of love to give! I was admitted to the shelter over 4 months ago after my previous owners could no longer care for me due to allergies. I’m happy here, but I really would be happiest in a loving home since I CRAVE attention! I think I would settle well into a home with other animals if I am slowly introduced.
If you’re looking for an adorable and extremely affectionate rabbit, then I’m your guy! I’m Togo, a young, lop-eared male who came into care in early May. I’d be a great pet, and all I ask in return is to spend time with me, let me out lots, feed and care for me properly, and have me neutered. If I’m neutered, then I’d be even more affectionate and the chances of me ever developing cancer would be VERY low. Give me a chance!

My name is Jenny and I am about 5yrs old. I love people, kids and adults alike. I was sprung from a pound in the nick of time. I’m house trained, know my manners and I’m good on & off leash. I love to play, adore car rides and crave affection. My foster mom says I’m a cuddler and have a sweet personality. I would love to be an “only child” so I can have all the attention.

I
by Virginia Marando
t was another busy day in rescue as my phone rang for the umpteenth time. It was Darcy Thompson, a flight attendant with Canadian North Airlines and a friend. She was very concerned about two dogs in a remote hamlet called Pangnirtung, just south of the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island. It was obvious from the tone in her voice that she had “fallen” for the two little vagabonds that were hanging around the airport in search of food and affection from the tourists. “It broke my heart when I had to leave them behind.” said Darcy. In a community where the higher percentile of dogs are commonly used for working rather than companion pets, the two not physically built to “pull” were of little use, so Darcy felt they had been cast out to fend for themselves. Not knowing too much about dogs in general, when I asked Darcy to describe the dogs she was only able to give me a scant description. To Darcy their age, height, and my further questions that would help me place the dogs into a rescue group did not matter. She had been told that these super social dogs would be shot if left in the vicinity, and that was all she needed to know to take action. She impressed on the person at Pangnirtung airport that on her next flight to the community she would collect the dogs and take them with her. Darcy’s mission was set to organize their transport with her employer, Canadian North.
I sat back in my chair with a sigh of relief thinking the stars had pet rescue magazine
The big day was July 29th. I met Darcy at the Edmonton International Airport on her arrival with the dogs. To my amazement, when the kennels came out from the baggage area, peeking through the gates were two four and a half month old puppies. How they had survived so far was a miracle. Darcy had already named them. There was a little girl named Mikilaa meaning “small one” and a boy Kunik meaning “kiss.” They were happy, and I am sure undoubtedly relieved to have ended their journey from Pangnirtung, to Iqaluit then onto Rankin Inlet, Yellowknife and finally Edmonton.
Darcy back in Edmonton with Kissi and Mikki
My mission had become to find placements for the two “unknowns.” With rescue groups being so full and not really having any information about the dogs, I wondered how hard my task was going to be. My first call was to SNAP (Spay/Neuter Action Program), after I told their story as I knew it, SNAP immediately agreed to take the dogs on, not really knowing what was coming their way.

aligned, as SNAP, although full, had just secured adoptions for two of their resident rescues consequently opening a place for these animals within their group. It crossed my mind that anyone who adopts a rescue should not only feel good about the animal they have homed, but also about the next animal waiting inline to be saved from a desperate situation.
September 2009
Since arriving they have gone through the regular health checks, spay and neuter procedures, and are now ready to find their forever home. I say home because they need to stay together. It is evident when observing them how bonded they truly are, each taking care of the other. It is a lesson in survival through support and commitment to each other that we humans could learn from.
SNAP President, Theresa Ferguson, asked me to extend her thanks to Canadian North, the pilots, the ground crews and finally to Darcy for her compassion towards two little ragamuffins that nobody wanted. Mikki and Kissi, as they are affectionately known, need love and attention, they need to be taught manners and that each bowl of food is not the last. If you can embrace these dogs and love them for what they have endured in their short life then please call SNAP at (780) 968-0025. prm local stories...local people...local pets
Northern Alberta Society for Animal Protection (NASAP) My name is Ravyn and I am a 7yr old Standard Poodle who gets along with everyone. I would prefer a quiet home with perhaps a retired couple who are content to spend time reading or watching TV with me by their side. I like walks and I don’t pull on the leash. If you are looking for a beautiful and gentle dog please call.
My name is Ruby and I am a mature Lab X. I am on a diet and exercise regime to lose a little padding…but no one is perfect right? Maybe we could work out together! I am housetrained, well mannered, great with kids, fine with cats and dogs (but prefer mature dogs) and I love being inside & included in family activities.
Greetings! I’m Evette. I am a very petite and playful 1yr old. I have a soft temperament and I love attention from people. I really like blankets and love to wrap myself up in them and fall asleep. I am cute as a button and would make a great addition to any family!
Cheers! I am Benjamin, a 1yr old boy with a lovely, but timid personality. I love to be cuddled and talked to. I purr up a storm when I get attention and I truly believe nothing’s better than to play with a string and cat toys.
Hi there, I’m Misty. I‘m a 7yr old who was rescued after spending two cold Alberta winters outside. I’m healthy and just adore being back in the human world. I love attention and rolling around on laps and floors. I also love to chat it up and tell you about my day!
My name is Phoenix and I am 8mths old. I was found abandoned in a back yard with my 2 day-old kittens who are now weaned and also looking for homes. I’m a very loving and affectionate kitty and I hope to get lots of love and affection in my new forever home.
Hello there! I’m Lance. I’m super sweet, get along with other cats (not sure on the dogs yet!) and LOVE to talk. I’m about 1yr old and I adore playing and running around the house. I’m ready and waiting to find my new family....all you have to do is call!
They call me Cinder and I am 8mths old. I’m a very loving and talkative girl who loves attention and giving kisses. My mom, Maggie, brought me into this world under NASAP’s care and did a great job raising me...now I just need my very own forever home. I can hardly wait!

I’m Charlee, and I’m HUGE on personality! I need a fenced yard (wooden as I climb chain link) to keep me safe, and lots of exercise. They say I’m like velcro because I like to stay close. I am loyal and I have some experience with children. I had trouble trusting but I have really improved. I would be a great jogging partner and excel at agility, fly ball, Frisbee, or any sport really! Hi I’m Cleo. I’m 4yrs old, happy, smart, and on the hunt for a new home. I am housetrained, well mannered, have great recall and get along with other dogs & cats. I’m used to kids too! I love playing fetch, know my basic commands and aim to please. OK… hands up…. who out there is looking for a super friendly young dog with bundles of energy and the friendliest personality in the whole wide world? Well, your search is over here I am, the one and only Lucien! I still need direction but if my training continues I will do wonderfully! Hello, Oscar here. I was a rambunctious puppy so my first owners found me a country home about five years ago. Recently I ended up in the pound and when nobody came for me my tattoo traced me to my first owners. Now I am a calm, well mannered, housetrained, and obedient gentleman! I have good recall, and I’m great with kids, dogs and cats alike.

Forget Me Not Cat Sanctuary Hello! My name is Cheddar! My previous owners moved into a no-pets apartment and had to give me up which made them very sad because I just might be one of the best-behaved 1yr old little cats that you ever did meet. I’m very quiet and I get along great with the other cats here. Even though I don’t like to make a racket, I love to play and I am very gentle. Everyone says that I am very sweet and affectionate. I’ve learned to stand on my two hind legs and reach up for a pat on the head which works like a charm. In addition to my friendly personality, I have a beautiful soft orange and white short hair tabby coat.
Hi, I’m Morgan and I’m not quite 1yr old, but still I’ve been a very good mommy. My six kittens were born in early June in an old abandoned trailer on a piece of property which I initially did not know was home to some very large dogs. The kind lady who lived there discovered us about two weeks later and before we could be hurt, we were all whisked away to the sanctuary. One of my little girls has already been adopted and my other five babies and I are waiting our turn. I’m a friendly, very pretty gray tabby who is cuddly, affectionate and would make a wonderful addition to a loving family.

Our mom is Morgan and we are a beautiful litter of kittens who were born in early June and will be ready to go to our very own adoptive homes around the end of September. My name is Sable. I am extra special because I am polydactyl, that means I have more toes than usual. My brothers and sisters are all playful, sweet, cuddly and affectionate. We can’t wait to find our human companions so we can show you just how good we really are.
Cassie Kendra Amy We are 3 beautiful kittens who will be ready to go to our very own adoptive homes anytime in September. Our Mom is Angie, but she is not here today. We were born at the end of April at the pound, and that very day, off we went to the sanctuary to be fostered. We all have beautiful dilute calico coats in varying shades. My name is Kendra and I am a long-haired girl with beautiful colors of pale apricot, grey and tan. My sister Cassie is medium-haired with a mixture of warm tans and browns, and Amy is a petite little short-haired girl who has all the same colors as me and Cassie, but also with a few tabby markings. We are healthy, playful and friendly kittens that get along with everyone.
Hi everyone, I’m Creamsicle, one of the permanent residents at the Forget Me Not Cat Sanctuary. I am excited to tell you that we have a blog! I am pleased to be the host of the Forget Me Not blog, and I hope you will check it out! You will get to meet me and many of my feline friends here at the Sanctuary and we’ll share our stories and photos with you. I also blog about many topics of interest to cat lovers, and keep you posted on news from the Sanctuary.

I’m Dinah and I’m from Carolina (just-kidding)! I’m a very pretty brown and tan medium hair tabby and approximately 1yr old. I am very affectionate and sweet with humans but would do the very best in a family where I was the only cat. With no other cats around, I am very peaceful and unruffled and I would be a source of great comfort to those around me. I’m not a demanding cat and I love to play by myself, but I also love to cuddle and purr up a storm, which can put you to sleep just like a lullaby.
This relaxed and friendly kitty is me, Willow! I’m a beautiful brown and orange short-hair tabby girl and the vet says I’m a little over 1yr old. I had no previous experience at raising kids but they say I’m pretty good at it. I had two beautiful babies named Raisin and Tangerine who have been adopted. My dad at the sanctuary called them my little Willow branches and their new adoptive mom calls them her pussy willows! I get along great with the other kitties here and love to sit beside a human and chat away in my soft chirping voice and be my sweet affectionate self.

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) My name is Dane and I am just one of 22 Huskies rescued in the High Prairie area, where we spent our lives on chains. Many of us had sores under our collars that were infected and even now, when I’m out on leash, I am still going in circles. So far I have been very nice and I’m starting to get used to all the attention, I even have a doggie friend (Lonnie) I play with. They call me Becky. I am a Rotti X and was brought to the vet as a stray. I am fairly easy going and love to roll around in the green grass…and sometimes the dirt! I love people! I would say I prefer people over other dogs. I am good on leash and love going for walks.
My name is Huff and I am one heck of a sweet guy. I am a Red Heeler X and I absolutely LOVE people. I’m still new but so far I am a wonderful boy to have around. Loyal, devoted, eager to please, smart, and 100% ready & willing to commit for life. My name is Jackie. I am very sweet, have a gentle disposition and love attention from you two-leggers… despite coming to SCARS with a rope embedded in my neck. The vet told me how good I was and that I will be just fine. I’m already so much more comfortable, and guess what? My foster mom promised me no one would ever treat me that way again! I am good with other dogs & cats, smart, friendly and not yet 1yr old.
Give A Dog A Spot: For Teri, our newest family member Love Mom, Dad and Connor T-Bor here! I am a young Lab X with lots of lab energy. I am smart and would do great in an active home that is willing to help me learn to be the best dog I can be! Please call soon as I am soooooo anxious to find my very own people!
I am brand new here at SCARS. I came from a Northern pound with my 3 sisters. We are about 8wks old, and possibly Border Collie crosses. We really like being in our new foster homes with a warm place to sleep, regular food, and lots of love.

Northern Spirit K9 Rescue (NSK9) My name is Hi-Way and I tried playing with a porcupine. I don’t really want to play with them anymore! I couldn’t eat or drink for 5 days because no one cared enough to get me veterinary help. NSK9 found me and immediately took me to the vet. It was pretty bad but I am feeling better now. I am 3yrs old, gentle, affecionate, calm and already crate trained. I’m great on leash and also get along with other dogs but I’m not sure about cats. Please consider me for adoption, I will make an excellent companion.
My name is Abbie and I am definitely a great farm dog. I help feed my foster mom’s horses every day and have never chased or snapped at them. I like some dogs but not all! I am high energy and need lots of exercise. I am afraid of the dark though and would love to have a night light! If I interest you please visit www.pak-9.com
Northern Spirit K9 Rescue is a NEW non-profit charitable rescue organization that is in great need of foster homes. If you can help, please contact us as soon as possible.

The McDonald Family Animal Rescue I am Sweet Pea, a purebred long-haired Chihuahua. I made many puppies for a breeder in Saskatchewan but when I developed diabetes they no longer had any use for me. I now have my insulin dose just right and I’m feeling tip top! I promise not to be too much trouble, just a couple of insulin shots and 4 small meals a day. Past that I am just like any other Chihuahua...just a whole lot cuter! My name is Brittany and I am flashy just like my namesake. I have gorgeous markings and I am very easy to get along with once I get to know you. I do like my privacy, but I warm up soon enough and my sweet furry face is enough to melt anyone’s heart. Like my sibling, I am ready for adoption...have you picked up the phone yet or what? My name is Ike and I am one cool cat! Actually I am still a kitten at just 4mths old. My sisters and I were found on the street and we are so thankful to have a great foster home. I love people and I am not scared of anything. Do you have a place in your home and heart for a special little guy like me? I promise to be the best kitten I can be if you just give me a chance.
They call me Rupert and I am as friendly as they come; I love nothing better than to hang out with people. I love to be brushed and I will sit back and relax when getting a manicure. Now that I am neutered, I would love to live with another bunny. Plus, I ALWAYS use my litter box! They love me at my foster home, but they would be happy to see me find my own forever home.

Safe Haven Animal Rescue Edmonton Society (SHARES) They call me 8-Ball. I am an indoor, litter trained, loving boy who adores food. I am great with the female resident cat but only tolerate the male. I am good with the small dog in my foster home and I simply LOVE people. Moose is my name and enticing you to adopt me is my game! I am a HUGE sweetheart. I am also calm, easy going, leash trained, good with other dogs & cats and aim to please! I am about 3’ at the shoulder and have the largest head ever (must be my huge brain!). I love to lean on people and would love to be leaned on....the volunteers here suspect I’d even let the kids ride me to be close! I came with the name Buddy on my collar. I am a Terrier X full of character from the pound. I like other dogs, travel well in the car and I am pretty easy going. I had a collar when I came but the number on it was no longer valid...it’s a good reminder to everyone to keep their information up to date on their pets ID. I am potty trained and fairly quiet.
My name is Ranger and I weigh about 60lbs. I am very affectionate, sweet natured, potty trained and I even know my basic commands. I am good with dogs & cats, love car rides and will do anything for a treat! I do get a little excited and bark when I meet people but I settle down once I have said hello.
My name is Bud and I just showed up at a SHARES foster home and settled right in. I am good with dogs and cats alike. I am a Lab X who may have had a hard life before rescue as I have broken teeth and an injury to my nose. I am well behaved and love to please my people...especially the ladies!
My name is Zena and I am a lovely little girl -yes GIRL, it is rare to find a female orange and white Tabby! I am good with other cats and dogs although I am more cautious with them. I am a quiet, petite and loving girl looking for a great home.
My name is Tank and I am a Puggle X. I travel well, am good with other dogs, potty trained, playful, curious and can’t wait to meet you! I weigh about 25lbs and measure about 17 at the shoulder. I am also good on leash and really love to please.
The volunteers here named me Tink. I am a young and well behaved Shep/Rotti X who is good on leash and with other dogs. I just want to please you! I know some basic commands and have personality PLUS! If you say “Hula Hula I will go into full body wiggle like a Hawaiian Hula dancer.
My name is Ole and I came from the pound. I am an easygoing girl around 7-9yrs old. I am good with other dogs, affectionate, potty & kennel trained and can’t wait to find my own home. I am a stray so my history is not known but so far I am really great!

My name is Hershey and I am a Border Collie/Lab X. I have been busy learning my manners and have come a long way in just 6 weeks! I am also very smart! I like to get lots of love, and to play at the off leash area with my friend Shasta.
I am a beautiful Husky/Yellow Lab X named Loca. I would like to have doggie friends in my new family as I really love the company of other dogs and I am very stressed when alone. I play very well with my friend Lyca.
I am a 2yr old Husky X named Lyca, although my name should be Houdini as I am an escape artist. I would be best on a leash line as I can get out or over most fences. I also have food allergies and will require a special diet for the rest of my life.
O’Malley here, I am a 7yr old Shitzu/Cocker Spaniel X. I came in with 5 of my relatives and we all look so much alike that the staff even gets us mixed up. We really have the dog walkers confused! I love to ride in the car and play in the off leash area. I am working on my potty training and it is coming along well.
Everyone calls me Rayanne. I am a beautiful German Shepherd AND an absolute love! I really crave human attention but I am sometimes timid in new situations. Once I learn I’m safe and what you want me to do I am very well behaved.
My name is Shasta and I am a 7yr old Golden Retriever/German Shepherd X. I have good manners and love to play with the agility equipment. Sometimes I can be aggressive with other female dogs but I like the boys!

Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation (WHARF) I am Bella! I am a Rotti Lab X and the most amazing dog ever. I am the absolute best at everything and I adore kids, I am as gentle as a kitten, which leaves me wondering why I was unclaimed at the pound. If you want an easy going happy girl I am the one for you!
Did you know that out of about 14 kittens I am the only one left? I don’t know why because I think I am sooo handsome. My foster mom thinks I am the sweetest kitten and I even hear little whispers saying “Josh you are my favorite little guy.” Come on I know you can’t resist my adorable face.
I am Murray and they tell me I am a Collie/ Spaniel X with the softest personality ever. All I want is a home where I can follow you around and be close. I do need a secure yard though as I can clear some fences and climb chainlink. If you are looking for a friendly lap dog I might be the one for you!
My name is Bree and I am a 6wk old Torbi. I was found on the highway, barely alive, with 2 of my other siblings that didn’t make it. I am all better now though and ready to play. I’m little, I’m cute, and I love to snuggle. Am I the one for you?
Didi here and yes I am the sweetest cat alive. I love to snuggle, rub up against you and I will always be at your side. I get along with everything and everyone. I am 2yrs old and will be sure to make you smile when you come home. I am the purrrfect kitty.

Paws For Life (PAWS) My name is Zipper and I have the short legs of a Corgi, but the brain of a Terrier. I love to be the center of attention and require a family that has experience dealing with the Terrier breed. I have not yet had the opportunity to live in a foster home but spent the weekend camping with a volunteer and had tons of fun! My name is Georgia and although I am new they have already fallen in love with me. I was found wondering the streets of Edmonton and it seems I recently gave birth to a litter of puppies. I am a really sweet and innocent girl who would love to be your newest family member. Call PAWS soon I’m waiting! I am a young Border Collie X named Trigger and I am one handsome devil! I would be a great dog for a family that could give me a “job” to do. I love playing dog sports and even competed in a disc competition where I was judged to be the most improved dog throughout the competition! Hi there, my name is Phillip and I am an adorable Shih Tzu X. I am fairly new here but I already get along great with the other dogs, cats, and people (including kids). I need a kind and loving home that is willing to go back to the basics with me and teach me about manners. Hi there, my name is Timmy because I was really timid when I first came to PAWS but now I am the life of the party. I love playing with my dog friends, getting cuddles from everyone, and being the center of attention. I need a little time to trust new people, but once I know you everything is A-OK!

Humane Animal Rescue Team (hart) My pups and I are all ready for adoption -are you ready for us? My name is Jenny. When hart rescued me, and I realized my pups and I were safe, I was so exhausted I slept for almost three days. My life has not been easy; I have a large scar on my right side and spine that was caused by a burn in my former life. It is healed up though and now that I am rested, and have gained some weight, I have a lot more energy to play with my puppies. These days instead of looking like I am carrying the weight of the world, I have a smile and a sparkle!
What’s In The Stars For Your Pets This Month? Aries: March 21 - April 19 A special moment shared, or a genuine gesture of friendship, could inspire some long term romance this month. Please be sure to use good sense and ensure you’re spayed or neutered before investing yourself emotionally. Taurus: April 20 - May 20 Like a bull in a china shop you often take action before preparing for your desired result. Whether your goal is ambushing the cat, stealing squeaky toys, or just getting the bird riled up for fun -patience and planning is key! Gemini: May 21 - June 20 This month will bring you great joy. Friends and family will surprise you with kind and appreciative thoughts because of your beautifully simple and soft nature. Be sure to bathe in the limelight you really are a gentle soul! Cancer: June 21 - July 22 Budgets are important, and this is a great month to start cutting back on your treat expenses. Make time to develop some long-term plans and research new ideas to increase cookie, rawhide and toy capital. Leo: July 23 - August 22 Life is easy this month and you are riding a natural high of success so it may be tempting to take on a regal attitude. Careful you don’t get carried away, you’re not that important and even a cat can look at a King!

Virgo: August 23 - September 22 Everyone always wants to hang with the “in” pack but you can not count on everyone having good intentions. Be aware and on the lookout for a wolf in sheep’s clothing who may start causing problems. Libra: September 23 - October 22 General upset could hit mid month and you will likely find yourself right smack in the middle. When calamity strikes, try to keep as calm as a toad in the sun, your manners and obedience will be well rewarded.

Scorpio: October 23 - November 21 Sometimes you cling to the past and try to recreate the things or times that made you happiest. Stop. There are often better things to come and no matter how you try to duplicate, it will always be a different kettle of fish. Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21 It’s hard not to help yourself when things you desire are placed right in front of your nose, but try to avoid instinct and temptation. Otherwise problems will likely surface with your boss later in the month.
Bella
Clyde
Capricorn: December 22 - January 19 Summertime has passed and it’s time to ensure you have a safe place, indoors, for the coming winter months. Plan ahead and be sure to secure a good source of food too or you will be left hungry as a bear! Aquarius: January 20 - February 18 Someone on your home team may not be thinking clearly later this month so be cautious with who you put your faith in. It may not be intended to hurt you personally, but if something smells it may be rat!

Pisces: February 19- March 20 Being a companion pet of any kind can be a rather selfsacrificing lifestyle. Be sure not to lose yourself in the big picture though, doing everything those two leggers ask (and they ask a lot!) can become all consuming.
