The Delbert Day Cancer Institute $7 Million Dollar Capital Campaign was a complete success! YOU DID IT! I want to thank each and every individual, family member, employee, business and donor for making the Delbert Day Cancer Institute a soon-to-be reality. This project has meant so much to me on a personal level – as it has most of you. I received a phone call last month informing me that my nephew Trey, who is 20, has a brain growth. I can’t describe the disbelief and utter uncertainty that I felt. Memories of losing my sister, Trey’s mom, to cancer three years ago came flooding back. I started asking 1000 questions, knowing that I would not be getting answers in the immediate future. For the time being, we’ve received good news that the growth is benign, treatable and possibly curable with the right chemotherapy. I am staying positive and guarding myself from the hope-stealing emotions that are such an awful reality during this process. Recently, I attended a Foundation Board meeting, where we welcomed many new members. As I listened to current board members share why they serve on the Board, I was moved by their stories of loss and healing. Ollie Jackson, Foundation Board member, shared that his wife, Barbara, had received great care at PCRMC during her battle with cancer. Board members Patricia Leaders, Candace Connell & Cindy Beger are all cancer survivors that received their treatment at PCRMC, and they are all donors to the DDCI. When speaking about the impact of the DDCI, Cindy Beger said, “For many of us in the room, if we would have had to drive to St. Louis to receive our cancer treatment – we probably wouldn’t have made it.” I realized it is not always about the end result, but it’s about the journey. Let’s continue to be united together and win this fight against cancer – it’s relevant and winnable! Delbert Day Cancer Institute – a New Name in the Battle Against Cancer!
