2008

at-a-glance

2008 was a busy time for the Phelps Regional Health Care Foundation. Many events, activities and fundraisers took place, and as a result, the Foundation was able to count 2008 as a very successful year.

Looking Back

The 10th Annual Foundation Golf Tournament took place on Monday, April 28 at Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla. With a total of 140 golfers and numerous local sponsors - and 55 degree windy, rainy weather the Foundation raised $61,090 to benefit the expansion of Cardiac Services at PCRMC. October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Foundation held several events to raise support for the PCRMC Breast Center Mammography Fund. Pink Gift Bags that were stuffed with items such as candles, mints, a pink calculator, pink lemonade and more brought in $6,880 for the fund. Panera Pink Bagels netted more than $600, and chocolate cookies with pink candies sold in the PCRMC cafeteria throughout the month of October helped raise $280. The Foundation held a recognition party for their donors on Saturday, October 25, 2008. This recognition event included cocktails, dinner, an awards presentation and a musical comedy group for entertainment. Recognition gifts were presented to donors that have continued to support the Foundation and moved up to a new level of the Partner’s Society over the past year. The PCRMC Auxiliary received special recognition and a special award from the Foundation for being in the Million Dollar Club in the Partner’s Society. The PCRMC Auxiliary has donated over $1 million to PCRMC since the Foundation was established in 1998. The women’s heart-health awareness luncheon, Heart-2-Heart, was held on Friday, December 5, 2008. More than 300 women were in attendance and raised more than $29,000. The luncheon featured a silent auction, a delicious heart-healthy lunch, entertainment, a special guest speaker from the Washington University School of Medicine and stories from stroke and heart attack survivors. More events are planned for 2009 - hope you can join us!

Phelps Regional Heath Care Foundation Receives Generous Estate Gift Address Address Address Address

Phelps Regional Health Care Foundation recently was the recipient of a significant donation of $525,000 from the estate of Mildred Rauth. Rauth, a pioneering business woman, owned and operated several movie theaters in the area in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Rauth, who passed away in 1974, had named the hospital to receive the remainder of her estate after providing for her sisters until their death. She owned the the Ritz theater in Rolla, the Lyric Theater in Newburg, the Crocker Theater in Crocker

and the Dixon Theater in Dixon. It is rumored that she owned the Lyric Theaters in Lebanon and St. James, as well. Rauth’s obituary in the Rolla Daily News stated that she owned the Gambles store in Rolla in the 1950’s and 1960’s and had a water softener business. Since little is know about Rauth, the Foundation staff continues to research her life. Any information about Mildred Rauth would be greatly appreciated! A Community of Giving

An opportu nity to gain income a nd tax benefits through phila nthropy. Through planned giving, donors establish their personal financial goals in a well-conceived estate plan that includes a gift to a charitable institution like Phelps Regional Health Care Foundation. Planned giving represents an enormous opportunity to gain income and tax benefits through philanthropy.

Phelps Regional Health Care Foundation is happy to work with you to find the planned giving option that best suits your personal goals and to identify potential funding opportunities. Opportunities include:

Planned giving results from careful discussions with a financial planner, accountant, attorney or other qualified professional. Never try to create a planned giving strategy without professional advice; hard-earned dollars could needlessly be sacrificed to income and estate taxes in trying to save a few dollars up front.

• Gift Annuities

Because financial situations vary from person to person, no single approach to estate planning is applicable across the board. Estate plans can be tailored to fit a wide variety of purposes and financial profiles. Generally speaking, a planned gift can:

Why you should consider making a gift to the Phelps Regional Health Care Foundation? • PCRMC is your partner for your family’s medical needs. • Your generous involvement is needed for ongoing support of PCRMC. • You are interested in creating a legacy in your family’s name that shows your support for healthy communities. • You feel strongly about a certain cause that the Foundation supports. • You experienced exceptional care at the hospital and want to show your appreciation. • A gift to the Phelps Regional Healthcare Foundation is tax deductible. • Circumstances/life event (business sale, inheritance, retirement, etc.)

The Grateful Patient Program has two components: • Friend of the Foundation • Guardian Angel

Snapshots

2008 Phelps Regional Healthcare Foundation Donors

Friends of the Foundation are Auxiliary volunteers, board members, individuals and businesses that have given a minimum cumulative lifetime donation of $1,000.

Guardian Angel provides a philanthropic opportunity for grateful patients and their loved ones to pay tribute to caregivers who made a difference during their stay.

When a Friend is hospitalized, he/she will receive a courtesy kit, flowers and gift certificate to the cafeteria and a follow-up get well card after discharge.

When a donation honoring a PCRMC member is received, the guardian angel will receive a card informing them of the gift and a custom-crafted lapel pin to wear.
