EDITOR’S NOTE Hello fellow Key Clubbers, The end of the school year is almost here! In this newsletter, you’ll find recaps of our end-of-year events with many pretty pictures thanks our historian, Steph Shen. I look forward to seeing your smiling faces next school year and wish you all good luck your upcoming finals. Happy reading! ~ Yours Sincerely, Katherine Yang 2015-2016 Editor

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Summer is almost here, my fellow Key Clubbers! And yet, in the last two months of school, the Key Club sure managed to accomplish a lot! May started us off with Pennies for Patients-a fundraising operation whose funds will go towards children suffering from leukemia and lymphoma. At the same time, SKIP reading was being run (where Key Clubbers read to grades K-5) and both the kids and the Key Clubbers had great fun. Furthermore, the class projects were being completed, and had great participation not only from the general members, but from the entire school as well! The main event in June was Relay for Life, an emotional event where the survivors of cancer reminisce of lost memories and lost friends towards this deadly disease, and where people could walk laps to support this event. The Key Club officers also had the privilege of attending the GRO picnic, where they helped run games for the children. Not to mention, the sponge race at PHS Redstock was a delight to many of the little children that attended. Finally, the fundraiser Kiss a Senior Goodbye was met with a lot of support from the students and teachers as well. Thank you everyone for a great service year thus far, everyone! Let's return to school in September fully recharged and renewed. : )

Yours in Caring and Service, Yang Fu PHS Key Club President '15-'16

FROSH CLASS PROJECT The freshman class made a name for themselves on May 29, 2015 by hosting the unconventional class project, trivia night. This wildcard event completely challenged the status quo of usual fundraising. Who had ever heard of a fundraiser that could actually be fun? Well leave it to the freshmen, who are not yet burned out from constant SAT prep, to come up with a great new idea. The freshman made a new name for Key Club that night making over $111 dollars in profit and having a great time while doing it. Offering over $50 in cash in addition to other prizes, trivia night took place in cafeteria 2. Although it was our first time doing it, the freshman pulled it off almost flawlessly. Trivia Night was a great time and I hope you can all make next year. — UDHAY KHULLAR (FRESHMAN CLASS PROJECT DIRECTOR)

SOPH CLASS PROJECT For the sophomore class projects, we organized a fundraiser at Smashburger as well as a visit to the nearby CareOne facility. In total, we raised approximately $70 from the fundraiser. Although it was not as successful as we expected it to be, we raised a good amount, considering the fact that it was a rainy day AND a day off from school. As for the service project, we conducted a puzzle drive and visited CareOne. During our visit, we were able to put our old puzzles to good use by helping the seniors solve them and in turn, brightening their day. Even though we only spent an hour with the seniors, our visit seemed to have given them a well-needed change in their daily schedules. The nice lady who I had been contacting to organize the visit was very satisfied with our behavior and urges our key club to set up a monthly visiting program so that the residents can have something to look forward to every month. The ten-student-strong group that was in attendance did a great job in reflecting our key club values and I hope that we will be able to organize more visits once the new school year starts, for it is important to get in touch with not only the future (the younger generations), but also with the past (the older generations). — MIKI HANSEN (SOPH. CLASS PROJECT DIRECTOR)

JUNIOR CLASS PROJECT Hey everyone! The juniors' Class Project was a success! We collaborated with Kabab Paradise (on North Beverwyck), who generously agreed to give us 10% of Wednesday, May 20th's total sales. Our job generally consisted of advertising for the event. A big thanks goes out to Sarah Ansari for creating the colorful and exciting flyer that advertised the event! We all participated in hanging this flyer around the school, whether it was in classrooms, the library, or the hallways. The total amount we made was $176.40, and Kabab Paradise rounded out this amount to a grand total of $250.00! Thanks to all who participated in advertising the event and going out to Kabab! : ) — MARINE-AYAN IBRAHIM AIBO (JR. CLASS PROJECT DIRECTOR)

SKIP READING Every other Friday, Key Clubbers (both general members and officers) have gone to either Northvail and Knollwood or Rockaway Meadow and Lake Hiawatha. The children are all very eager to listen and readily interact with the members, and each Key Clubber who has gone can confirm that reading to them is quite fun! For those who find that they enjoy playing with children (especially those who visit the daycare!), these readings are another fun way to connect with the younger children of Parsippany. We will be continuing these visits next year, and hope to see all of you guys there at one point or another!

RELAY FOR LIFE Relay For Life is a community event where people come together to honor cancer survivors, remember the loved ones they have lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken too much. As the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society, this event happens across the globe and it is Key Club’s honor to assist and take part of it every year. In Relay For Life, teams camp out overnight and walk or run around a track or path—this year, the event took place at CCM. It lasts for up to 24 hours, and because “cancer never sleeps” each team is asked to always have at least on participant on the track. Luminarias are sold both before and during the event, and one of the primary ways Relay for Life fundraises. The Parsippany High School Key Club aids in the creation of these luminarias, or paper bags with the name of either one lost to cancer or a cancer survivor, often with a message. At this event, we are also the ones who set them up around the track at dusk, weighing them with sand and filling them with glow sticks. Truly a beautiful ceremony and event, we highly recommend members to participate (and to continue participating!) in the years to come.

GRO PICNIC On June 7th, six Key Club members attended the Parsippany elementary schools' GRO picnic. There, the volunteers assisted in organizing and monitoring the games, which consisted of Tug of War, a Potato Sack Jumping Race, and more. They made sure the students had loads of fun, allowing this Sunday to be a memorable day for them. The GRO kids, first to fifth graders, played these entertaining games after finishing a scavenger hunt arranged by the GRO teachers. Not only did the kids have fun this day, but the Key Club members did as well! — Christina Xu (Guest Speaker)

KISS A SENIOR GOODBYE “Kiss a Senior Goodbye” was our last fundraiser of this school year. Much like Candygrams, our club sold goodie bags of chocolate Hershey kisses for a dollar each. In totally, we raised $78! Each buyer sent a bag with a message to a senior of his or her choice, hence “kissing” the senior goodbye by sharing a sweet treat with him or her. We’re all quite sad to see our own Key Club seniors leave us as well, and would like to wish them the best of luck in their college years! ~
