BOARDROOM NOTES Chris Reeves Vice Chairman

T

hese notes are being penned on a very happy coach full of Poole players and supporters on the road back from another satisfying away victory at Bideford. The odd goal in the victory doesn’t tell the full story of another competent performance. Goals from Luke Burbidge and a second far post headed goal in successive games from Michael Walker secured another three away points without the side ever reaching the heights we know they are capable of. The commitment of the semi-professional footballer is immense and after several hours hard graft and a long coach trip for the guys to go out and produce the goods in that way was awesome. It was of course the second satisfying away performance in four days coming as it did hot on the collar of a quite superb display winning at National League South side Hayes and Yeading in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup. That victory will live long in the minds of all the Tatnam faithful that were at the game and if you weren’t there and haven’t seen the goals on you tube then do go on line and enjoy! Have you ever seen a more sublime lob than Richard Gillespie’s for the second goal on the day? The win of course has set us up with an away tie in the 3rd qualifying round- we now know that is at Ryman Division One South Hastings Utd who accounted for their League rivals Herne Bay by 3-2 in Tuesday night’s replay. That game is next Saturday - see you there! Today we welcome our friends from Redditch whose players officials and

supporters are most welcome. Redditch are once again flying high in the table and we will have to be at our best to keep our superb current run of form going. The Cup is great but the League is the be all and Tom will be drumming that into our players in no uncertain fashion. Tuesday night sees us in action at Tatnam once more- usual 7.45 ko, our opponents being Paulton Rovers in another Southern League Premier Division encounter. Finally these notes should not close without a warm welcome being extended to our new loan signing Corby Moore. It does seem rather strange to hear Poole supporters crying out “Come on Corby”- memories of the finale to last season are still too fresh! We will get over that though as Corby’s style of play will soon make him a firm favourite. Enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 tickets. Chris

MATCH REPORT 1

COMP League DATE 29/09/15 REPORT Jack Tanner Poole moved to within two points of first place with a 2-1 win over Bideford. A papert hin squad made the lengthy trek down to North Devon, with only the starting 11 and 3 subs. Notable absentees included Lewis Lindsay, who was carrying a knock, Keith Emmerson, Richard Gillespie, Jamie Gleeson (Still recovering from his pectoral injury) and Jamie Davidson. The missing Gillespie, Poole’s leading scorer in competitions this year with 5, was replaced with the marquee summer signing, Alan Connell, who is still searching for his first goal in Red and White. The game got off to somewhat of a slow start, both teams playing the ball high into the night sky, without any real fluency, misplacing passes and overhitting through balls, much to the frustration of both team’s strikers. It took 12 minutes for either team to register a shot, when Marvin Brooks fired into the midriff of Kyle

7

Moore, who managed to spill the ball away, when he could have quite comfortably caught it, meaning Poole were gifted a corner. It wasn’t Moore’s finest performance, as he flapped at quite a few balls. Hutchings in the Poole goal looked the more confident keeper, sweeping up loose balls with ease, and only had one save to make in the first half, doing well to cover his near post. Lewis Tallack did exceptionally well after he took two players out of the game on the touchline, before beating another with a slick little flick that left his opponent standing, before playing a ball back into the middle. A little bit of magic in an otherwise drab half so far. Controversy struck 10 minutes before half time, as Alan Connell seemingly used his hand to knock the ball into the path of Luke Burbidge, who calmly slotted home under pressure, to put the Dolphins 1-0 up. Extremely loud

MATCH REPORT protests were made by all of the Bideford defenders, but the goal stood. Marvin Brooks was booked 2 minutes later for a foul, but the last action of the half came when Connell spotted Moore miles away from home, and tried a cheeky volleyed attempt for about half way, which sailed wide. Neither team made changes at the break, but it seemed as if a different Poole team had come out of the dressing room. Poole had finally consistently got the ball on the deck, passing it around with purpose. Multiple opportunities for the ball to be put in the back in the net presented themselves, but each time the ball was squared, it wasn’t met sufficiently, meaning the pressure on the Bideford goal was not capitalised upon. One such chance came when Roberts did well to retain possession, playing in Burbidge, who beat his man before fizzing a cross towards Connell, who couldn’t get on he end of it. Luke Holmes came on, and also had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0, when he scuffed another Burbidge cross into the grateful hands of more. Burbidge would be involved in Poole’s second goal, as he did well to win a corner, picking up a knock to his ankle that saw him replaced. Devlin promptly took the corner, right onto the head of the unmarked Walker, who headed home for his

second goal in 4 days. 2-0 up with 9 minutes to go, and it seemed the Dolphins would comfortably take 3 points home. However, Poole gave a sloppy free kick away, just outside the box, which was promptly fired at the wall, as Will Spetch was adjudged to have used his arm to block it, giving the hosts another opportunity. This time, the free kick was of much higher quality, as a well worked free kick saw Palmer put it under the wall to set up a nervy final five minutes for the visitors. However, Poole held onto their 1 goal lead to bring 3 points back home from Devon for the second time in 2015. Bideford are now 23rd, whilst the Dolphins rise to 4th, Jack Tanner

The Fan’s View Jack Tanner gives his view on the match: A slow start to the first half followed by a much stronger second meant the Dolphins won on the road for the third time in a row. With some good linkup play we had multiple chances on goal, and were relatively unchallenged at the back. Now for another three points!

COMMERCIAL MATTERS

O

ur last home game resulted in a 0-0 draw with a resurgent Dorchester. A result that may prove key at the end of the season. Since then we had the all importanrt 2-3 away win at Hayes and Yeading in the FA Cup setting up a third qualifier away to Hastings and that was followed by the 1-2 away win at Bideford. We currently sit 4th in the table as we welcome 6th place Redditch today. Come on you Dolphins, let’s get some points in the bag! I would like to thank Meridian Leisure Services Direct Ltd for Sponsoring the Dorchester Match and choosing Michael Walker as their Man of the Match. Thanks also to Peter and Olive Reeves who sponsored the Ball and as Season Ticket Holders have guaranteed themselves reserved seats in the stand for the rest of the season. I would also like to thank Be Be Smith, who was our mascot against Dorchester. For today’s game, we welcome back Rockley Park as Match Sponsor and the Ball has been sponsored by Mike Christopher. Today’s Mascots are Steve Devlin’s son and God Daughter as a surprise to mark his Birthday. Let’s hope you all have a great afternoon and hopefully a Poole Town win. We are doing quite well for Match and Ball Sponsors plus Mascots this season, but still have some availability. If you or your company would like to sponsor a Match, Ball, Player, or know someone who would like to be a Mascot please get in contact. At the time of writing, Jack Dickson and Luke Roberts are still looking for Sponsors and we are looking for Ball Sponsors and a Mascot for the home game against Paulton on Tuesday. The club turned 125 years old on Sunday 20th Sept and to mark the

occasion we are looking to form a new Vice-Presidents Board. Cost is £5,000 and in return you will receive free entry to Tatnam for 3 years, with boardroom hospitality, for two people plus seats at the Sportsmans Dinner and End of Season Presentation Dinner, as well as the chance to shape the future of the club. Interested parties are to contact any member of the board. We finally launched the new fans shirt and wore it away to Biggleswade. If you do not already have yours, you will be able to collect pre-orders from Robtheshirt in the Clubshop. Replicas can be purchased in the Clubshop today and orders can be placed online for the home shirt. The fans shirt is a Limited Edition, with only 100 made in total and only available from Tatnam in sizes 10/12, S, M, L, XL and XXL only, so get yours before they sell out. There are all kinds of other bargains to be had in the Clubshop, so give Rob’s Pod a visit before you leave today. The annual golf day was last Friday 25th September 2015 at Canford Magna. A lot of fun was had by all who participated, with the event raising a four figure sum for the club. The annual Sportsmans Dinner will be on Thursday November 12th with details elsewhere in this programme. Mark Bumford, Commercial Director, 07787 600392, mark.bumford@pooletownfc.co.uk
