fternoon all, so coming off the back of our last 2 fixtures, a solid win at home to Histon and then a tight 1-0 loss away a Leamington were a bit disappointed at only taking three points from those two games. We set ourselves a target of a minimum of 4 points from those two so to fall up short is a blow. It is what it is though, we move straight on. Three of our next four fixtures are at home and we really believe after that with these games we can put ourselves in a really strong position going into the final stages of the season. Yes the pressure is there and it will be tough but we’ve all experienced it before and hopefully all learnt from it. We all have plenty of belief in each other and team moral is brilliant, we are well equipped ready for this run in. It starts today at home to Bedworth, a team that particularly surprised me when we played them away, I thought their front two were very lively and proved dangerous so we’ll have to bang on it today to keep them at bay. We want the 3 points, nothing

3

less and that’s what we’ll be going out to get. Get behind the lads! A good atmosphere at Tatnam could prove vital! Up the Dolphins Whisk

BOARDROOM NOTES Chris Reeves Vice Chairman

T

his afternoon sees a vital spell of three home games out of the next four fixtures. The away game, of course, being the Easter Monday trip (3pm kick off) to Weymouth. These four games could well be season defining as we continue our aim of securing that all important league championship and promotion to National League South. This afternoon we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Bedworth United for what I am sure is the first time we have ever played this afternoon’s opponents at home in the Southern League, or any competition for that matter. Although Bedworth lie towards the bottom of the table, they have on many occasions this season demonstrated that they are more than capable of matching any of the sides above them and our players will recall only too well just what stiff opposition Bedworth provided when we travelled to the Midlands for the away fixture back in December which saw us emerge victorious by two goals to nil, but only after a very hard fought encounter. I trust that Bedworth had a good journey here and that they return home safely and that off the field at least they enjoy our hospitality, coupled with a warm welcome. The result at Leamington last week was particularly disappointing. The team had played superbly in its previous away game at Redditch and we were all looking forward to a similar display last Saturday. The players have been honest enough to acknowledge that their performance fell short of our expectations and their own capabilities, and it is great testament to the spirit within the camp that that acknowledgement has been made, coupled with a determination to ensure that that is the last time that the players performance falls below what is required. From a personal perspective, I totally trust this squad of players. They are focused and want to achieve. Their ability is beyond question I would suggest after their performances over the course of the last couple of years have

proved. With the exception of Richard Gillespie who is getting very close now to fitness, we have a fully fit squad. The quality of which has been enhanced by our recent signing of Abdulai Baggie. “Abs” will quickly become a Tatnam favourite. He is fast and direct with a wealth of football league experience behind him and also an international cap under his belt following his appearance for Sierra Leone in a world cup qualifying fixture in the run up to the 2014 competition. He had a cameo role of 20 minutes or so last weekend and showed some tantalising glimpses of his ability during his time on the pitch. This coming bank holiday weekend, we have a game on Saturday next when we entertain Stratford Town (usual 3pm kick off) and then the following Monday, as previously mentioned, we are away at Weymouth. Many thanks for all the supporters who turned up for the open meeting of supporters at the Club Hose on the 2nd March. It was a really positive evening and good to be surrounded by so many people who clearly care so deeply for the Club. If we do achieve our aim of promotion to National League South, we will need an awful lot more help in and around the ground on match days, as the Club will need to “up its act” in all aspects of its operation. In actual fact we could do with more help whether or not we get promotion and if anybody who was at that meeting (or anyone else for that matter) would like to find out more about ways in which they can help the Club, then do please approach me any time! Finally, my usual encouragement to enjoy the game and not to forget the 50 / 50 tickets. CHRIS REEVES

P

oole trekked up to Leamington, where they met the form team of the division in a hotly-contested battle. The Dolphins were dominant in the first game of the season between these two teams – their only complaint coming out of that game was the inability to convert more chances. However, this one was more evenly contested, with both sides enjoying spells of dominance. The visitors took a strong side that had recovered after being hit by multiple injuries, including Abdulai Baggie, a new signing that was named on the bench. Leamington had the first chance of the game, with Burton Albion loanee Sam Austin firing straight at Nick Hutchings, and would control the first 5 minutes

7

of the game. However, momentum would swing the other way, with two Poole corners in relatively quick succession both eventually cleared. Austin opened a pocket of space that allowed him to fire off consecutive shots, but neither truly troubled the Poole goal. But it would be Jack Edwards that would produce the game’s first bit of real danger – Hutchings forced to flick the midfielder’s header just over the bar. It would be a little while longer until the Dolphins took a proper shot at the game – with Will Spethc’s first contribution a powerful effort that Captain Tony Breedon did well to keep out, before his defenders cleared up any potential danger.

LAST TIME OUT Up next was Ben Mackey – but all the striker could do under pressure was fire woefully wide from close range. After being kept quiet in the return fixture, it was the first time that Mackey had endangered the Poole goal. Then it would be Austin – released by a deep ball earned from a free kick, but all the wideman could do was fire straight at Hutchings again. It was the same story again when Baker-Richardson fired into Poole shot-stoppers midriff, another ball easily dealt with. Mackey would find the net: a very scrappy effort which saw the striker manage to deflect the ball past Hutchings. He may not have known much about it, but off Leamington wheeled to celebrate. The frontman would be involved again, turning his defender before unselfishly giving the ball to a fellow attacker, which was just about dealt with by Lewis Lindsay. The hosts would have another chance – but Lee Moore fired extremely high from just on the six yard box. A goal-line scramble produced Poole’s best chance to get back into the game – but the end product ended up over the bar. Devlin’s effort from range was just tipped round the post by

Breedon with a dramatic effort after seeing it late. Up came Hutchings, but it was Poole who almost conceded from the corner; Austin’s end product lacking again. That would be the last bit of action as Leamington managed to see out a narrow victory. A small consolation was the fact that Poole remain top due to Hitchin holding Chippenham at Hardenhuish Park. This win propels The Brakes back into the title frame, but it still remains too tight to call.

MEET THE OPPOSITION DENHAM HINDS Denham is a maturing 22 year old goal keeper who has played at Oadby Town, Kettering Town and Hinckley United. The Hinckley based keeper was outstanding in goal for Bedworth last season being the only member of the playing staff to play every minute of every game. He is a very agile and talented keeper that could progress further CHRIS TULLIN Chris is a local stalwart that has served Bedworth excellently over many years making over 500 appearances for the Greenbacks. The left sided player was not given an opportunity at Redditch, but played in several key games last year and he is eager to make his mark at Bedworth this season and play on a regular basis.

Luke is a local lad and he grew in stature last season under the guidance of the coaching team. The 23 year old left sided player forced his way into the team and kept his place with some good performances. He has played in New Zealand for Wellington the past 2 seasons. On returning to England he had to wait several months for international clearance before we captured his signature. Luke played a major part in last years’ promotion season scoring in the play off final. ANDREW WESTWOOD Andrew joined Bedworth in January 2014 from Chasetown, where he struggled to break through to their 1st team. The 22 year old Wolverhampton based player was players’ player of the year in midfield last year for Bedworth. COMMERCIAL MATTERS Our last home game against Histon resulted in a great 3-0 home win. Since then we had the disappointing 1-0 defeat at high flying Leamington and have lost top spot to Redditch on goal difference (and subject to a pending points deduction). It is absolutely critical that we win today and keep the pressure on the other teams in the top five. Come on you Dolphins. I would like to thank Funky Peach for Sponsoring the Histon game and Mike Christopher who sponsored the Ball and Karen Griffiths who was our Mascot on the day, marking her Birthday. For today’s game, we have Portman Stone back again as Match Sponsor and the Ball is Sponsored by SoccerPitch. Today’s Mascot is Amy Bayes. We also have a group of six, celebrating a 50th Birthday with Corporate Hospitality today. Let’s hope you all have a great afternoon and hopefully the right result. We are now sold out for Match and Ball Sponsors for the remainder of this season and I would like to thank all those companies and individuals that have supported us over this season. We now only have one member of staff left to sponsor – Kit Man, Paul Ayley. If you would like to sponsor Paul, it’s just £85. Many thanks the Marilyn and Michael Gower who have this season sponsored Jamie Whisken and Luke Burbidge. We also have just one Mascot (£40) place left available this season – Chesham on Saturday 2nd April. Please get in contact if you are interested. If you have never tried Tatnam Trebble, I promise you it will be the most tasty Cheddar you have ever had. Seek out Martin Smith on the Cheese table at home Saturday games. Try one of his Pork pies as well, you will not be disappointed. The club turned 125 years old on 20th

35

Sept and to mark the occasion we are looking to form a new Vice-Presidents Board. Cost is £5,000 and in return you will receive free entry to Tatnam for 3 years, with boardroom hospitality, for two people plus seats at the Sportsmans Dinner and End of Season Presentation Dinner, as well as the chance to shape the future of the club. Interested parties are to contact any member of the board. I would like to thank all of you who are using http://pooletownfootballclub. easysearch.org.uk/ as your search engine. We earn ½p per search and that amounts to a couple of pounds per week. That combined with http://www. easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/pooletownfootballclub/ we have now raised over £1,000 for the club. Thanks to all those that support these initiatives. We will have the usual Spring Lunch, at Patricks Restaurant on Friday April 1st, details to be released shortly. Have you heard about Last Man Standing? Just £10 to enter, pick a premier League side to win, get it right and stay in. It’s as simple as that. See Pippa for details.
