CAPTAIN'S NOTES Jamie Whisken Club Captain

fternoon all, so we’re going into this bank holiday weekend in good spirits, we’ve had a good weeks training, the squad is looking strong and we’re happy with where we are at. We had a strong win last sat at home to Bedworth winning 5-0, a good win for the boys that was much needed to give all the lads a good confidence boost going into a very important part of the season. Abs was given his first start and I thought he did well, he was bright and caused them all sorts of problems, Ashan also came on and got his first goal for the club with a good finish. So our striking options are looking good and I’d probably say the best they’ve been since I’ve been at the club. With two games over this weekend it could prove vital in this season’s outcome but as a team were confident we can get what we need to out of the weekend and kick on again from there. Teams around us failed to win in the week and I think that shows there’s still more twists and turns to come, just fingers crossed not too much on our

3

behalf. Get behind the lads today, we massively need the support! Fans were great last week. Up the Dolphins Whisk

nd so the race for the title continues! This afternoon we welcome the players officials and supporters of Stratford Town FC for not just their first ever visit to Tatnam but for what I am quite sure is the very first time our two clubs have met in any competition. They are all the more welcome for that and I trust they had a good journey here absolutely a safe one home. Last week the team were in sparkling form and thoroughly entertained a good home crowd with five goals from the top drawer without reply to soundly secure the three points and send the Tatnam faithful home with a huge grin on their faces. The lads very firmly put the disappointment of that freak result at Leamington behind them and made a very definite statement as to just how much it means to them to achieve the goal this year that so tantalisingly eluded us eight minutes from the end of last season. There were so many good performances but special mention perhaps due to Luke Roberts for a superb centre forwards display. Abdulai Baggie for a sparkling full debut and then Ashan Holgate and Tony Lee for the impact the both made scoring after coming off the bench. More today please Lads!

A word of welcome to James Granger who has signed non contract forms for us- dual registered with Eastleigh. James is a 19 year old midfielder who has been a part of Portsmouth’s Academy .He has a venomous shot and is a very able addition to our squad. The transfer deadline has now passed so no more signings permitted for any of us! Last Sunday our magnificent Ladies team beat Wimborne here by a convincing 3-0 scoreline in the semifinal of the Dorset Senior Cup. Our reserve side only just failed to join them in the final going down 2-1 to Dorchester Ladies. A brilliant effort from the two sides bringing great credit on themselves and the Club. The final is at the County Ground on 19th April- rather frustratingly the same night we play Bideford here in the last home fixture of the season. Monday of course we travel to Weymouth for a massive game3.00pm ko. Next Saturday we are at home again when we take on Chesham here again at 3.00pm. Finally- enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 tickets. Chris

aving lost top spot during the week, Poole signalled their intention that they are still in the title race with an emphatic 5 goal victory over Bedworth. Poole raced in to a 2 goal lead within 16 minutes. Roberts almost set Baggie up early on but he could not quite reach the cross with the kepper beaten. On 8 minutes Lindsay played a central ball to Roberts who turned and beat keeper Martin with a nicely placed shot. The second came on 16 minutes from Roberts

7

finding Baggie wide on the left who crossed for Burbidge for a relatively easy tap in. From the restart Bedworth almost pulled one back when Archer found himself through but his chipped shot over Hutchings hit the bar – their best chance of the game. The remainder of the first half was a fairly even contest with Poole having severral chances wide or high.. Just before the half time whistle Bedworth’s Kavanagh received a straight red (correct decision) for pulling back Baggie who was

LAST TIME OUT through on goal. With the extra player Poole dominated the second half with Bedworth not testing Hutchings once. Poole’s third on 56 minutes was from a debatable foul on the edge of the box. Spetch’s free kick hit the post with Roberts reacting first to tap in (despite the “journalists” claiming Whisken) . 3 quick substitutions did not stop Poole’s domination. Substitute Holgate got Poole’s fourth on 76 minutes when Dickson found him centrally, he took his time to find space and smashed in to the corner – a top striker’s goal. A rampant Poole got their fifth on 82 minutes when Burbidge crossed to substitute Lee for a reasonably easy finish from the centre. A convincing victory to take Poole back to the top on goal difference. Redditch & Leamington are close behind with narrow victories. Looks like this

could go the wire again (start taking the pills!).

COMMERCIAL MATTERS We witnessed a great 5-0 victory last home game against Bedworth. Since then we had the disappointment of losing top spot by one point as Redditch drew midweek, but all other results went in our favour. It is absolutely critical that we win again today and keep the pressure on the other teams in the top five. Come on you Dolphins. I would like to thank Portman Stone for Sponsoring the Bedworth game and SoccerPitch who sponsored the Ball and between them they picked Luke Roberts as their MOTM. Also thanks to Amy Bayes who was our Mascot on the day. We also had a group celebrating a 50th Birthday with Corporate Hospitality package, which saw the Birthday Boy dress up as Dylan, much to the amusement of his mates and present Luke with a bottle of Bubbly. For today’s game, we have Meridian Leisure Services Direct Ltd back again as Match Sponsor (See their Advert Elsewhere) and the Ball is once again sponsored by Andrew Keen of CityIR. Today’s Mascot is Bobbie Griffin, grandson to our very own Cheeso. There will be a bucket collection later today by Julias House who have given Bobbie a lot of support throughout his life. Please give generously. Let’s hope you all have a great afternoon and hopefully the right result. We are now sold out for Match and

35

Ball Sponsors for the remainder of this season and I would like to thank all those companies and individuals that have supported us over this season. Our Kit Man, Paul Ayley has been sponsored by Eddie Mitchell, meaning the entire squad is now covered. We have just one Mascot (£40) place left available this season – Chesham on Saturday 2nd April. Please get in contact if you are interested. If you have never tried Tatnam Trebble, I promise you it will be the most tasty Cheddar you have ever had. Seek out Martin Smith (Cheeso) on the Cheese table at home Saturday games. Try one of his Pork pies as well, you will not be disappointed. I would like to thank all of you who are using http://pooletownfootballclub. easysearch.org.uk/ as your search engine. We earn 1/2p per search and that amounts to a couple of pounds per week. That combined with http://www. easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/pooletownfootballclub/ we have now raised over £1,000 for the club. Thanks to all those that support these initiatives. We will have the usual Spring Lunch, at Patricks Restaurant on Friday April 1st, details to be released shortly. Have you heard about Last Man Standing? Just £10 to enter, pick a premier League side to win, get it right and stay in. It’s as simple as that. See Pippa for details.

TODAY’S MASCOT Name – Bobby Griffin Age – Nearly 3. Favourite Team – Poole Town FC! Favourite Player – Luke Burbidge. Bobby was born on 11th may 2013. On arrival, Bobby was motionless and very floppy. He was rushed out but returned soon after and we were told he was ‘just a lazy boy’. Mum and Bobby remained in hospital for 6 weeks in the paediatric intensive care unit in Poole while they ran further tests. We were later informed that little Bobby had Chromosome 14q Deletion Syndrome and Gastro Oesophageal Reflux Disorder (GORD). No one is able to tell us what the future holds Bobby, but they have told us to expect Bobby to have learning difficulties and to be physically disabled although they are not able to say to what extreme. Chromosome 14q Deletion Syndrome is a rare condition and we believe there are only 12 other known cases of the condition with the oldest being 17 years old. Bobby is now 2 and a half years old but still very much like a newborn, very floppy, can’t support himself and is still fed on a pump which is running 24 hours a day and feeds straight into his bowel. Bobby vomits and gags up to 20 times a day and through the night. He has a drainage bag connected at night and he has

to have regular suction through the night to clear his vomits and secretions. Bobby is growing and responding well to physio, although he will probably never be able to walk or eat, he is reaching his own little mile stones. For more info, please visit www. gofundme.com/bobbysfuture Bobby regularly attends Julia’s House Hospice for play sessions, which he really enjoys. We can not thank all the staff at Julia’s House enough for their help and support – They all do a fantastic job!
