BOARDROOM NOTES Chris Reeves Vice Chairman
S
ince the last edition of these notes were penned, we have enjoyed three victories and three reminders as to why it is more often than not the case that being a Poole Town supporter these days provides very many more ups than downs! We started with the victory against Paulton Rovers on 6th October which that night put us back at the top of the table and carried us into the away FA Cup tie at Hastings United the following Saturday in a very good frame of mind. The game at Hastings saw the team produce a very professional and competent performance. Playing a team in good form in front of a near 750 home crowd was always going to carry with it the potential for a cup upset, but our players were having none of it and an early goal from Jamie Whisken calmed their nerves, and to be frank, the result was never in doubt. The draw for the fourth qualifying round of the competition broadcast live on Talk Sport could have been kinder. To be drawn out so early and given an away tie at the winner of the Whitehawk v Gosport replay was a little disappointing when everyone had been hoping for a home tie against one of the lesser lights left in the competition. We now know of course that we will not be resuming our rivalry with Alex Pike / Justin Bennett & Co – but rather travelling to Brighton to take on one of the strongly fancied National League South Clubs Whitehawk in what will undoubtedly be an extremely tough task for the team. If ever the side needed inspiration in terms of tackling that tough task, it surely came from the performance of a very young Poole Town side that travelled to Dorchester last Tuesday in the Red Insure Cup and following a sparkling performance overcame a very strong Dorchester Town team by 3 goals to 1. For those Poole supporters who were present at the game, the performance of the youngsters was just incredible. So much energy, so much enthusiasm, so much effort and so much skill from a very inexperienced
side dominating the game (the first 10 mins apart) against very much more experienced opposition, was a joy to behold. Extremely well taken goals from Toby Holmes, Luke Stone and Taylor Leonard, gave us, what in the end, was a comfortable victory. The complete lack of fear from the youngsters was highlighted when 5 minutes from the end, Dorchester pulled a goal back from a highly dubious penalty and the expectation arose that the proverbial kitchen sink would be thrown at our youngsters. Whilst Dorchester tried to do that, the young Poole side was having none of it and broke away and got a third to cap a quite spectacular evening’s entertainment for everyone associated with the Dolphins. This afternoon we welcome the players, officials and supporters of Cirencester Town to Tatnam for a Southern League Premier league fixture. Our visitors have demonstrated thus far that they will be one of the teams to be reckoned with, so nothing less than our best form will be good enough this afternoon and with all the cup games that we are involved with at the moment, maintaining the accumulation of league points as and when we play a league match becomes ever more critical. This coming Tuesday we of course go back to Dorchester in the league for a quick return. Hopefully the senior professionals will match the performance of their young counterparts and set themselves up for a full scale tilt at toppling Whitehawk in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round next Saturday and pave the way for a money-spinning tie in the first round proper. The lads must believe in their ability and with our recent track record of success – who knows? Chris Reeves

COMP League Cup DATE 14/10/2015 REPORT Jack Tanner
Poole began the defence of their Southern League Crown as they beat Dorchester 3-1 with a youthful side. Killick’s intentions in this cup were clear with his starting eleven – featuring 6 debutants in the form of Tom Rees, Josh Buck, Joseph Huston-Heady,Oli Davies, Emil Salama, and Luke Stone, with the rather young Lewis Lindsay the most experienced Dolphin out on the field, and thus made captain. Dorch on the other hand had experience – stalwarts of Nathan Walker, Mark Jermyn, Nick Crittenden and Neil Martin in defence, in front of the very experienced Alan Walker Harris. Jonah Ayunga was the 7
young gun, proving dangerous up front, bullying the Poole defence. Poole started the better team, and other than Rees’ good save with his feet, had the chances. Poole were able to convert after Davies’ cross was slotted home by Toby Holmes, in his second appearance in Poole colours. Poole could have gone two up when Salama flicked it on, but Holmes’ effort was well saved by Walker-Harris’ feet. With no real height in the box apart from Holmes, Poole were forced to utilise the short corner, almost succeeding when Jamie Davidson’s shot was well blocked, be-

MATCH REPORT fore Oli Davies picked up the first yellow of the evening, his foul breaking up a dangerous Dorchester counter. Poole were soon to double their advantage, with striker Luke Stone grabbing his first Poole goal, doing well to beat three Dorchester defenders, before cutting back and cooly slotting into the far post. It was perhaps less than the Dolphins deserved – more clinical finishing could have seen them further ahead. Stones forced AWH into another save with his feet, but other than that the first half ended without any further incident. The second half was more of a drab affair, but slightly more open – Dorch were now chasing the game, looking for a way back into it. They were handed a landline when a foul in Rees’ box was adjudged to be a foul, and substitute Charlie Davis stepped up to slot home against his former club. However, instead of being a nervy close to the game, Poole were hitting Dorch on the break, coming forward
in droves of counter attacks. One such attack sealed the game off, when Salama’s cross was well left by Moore, leaving sub Taylor Leonard to score his first senior goal for Poole Town. Whitehawk beat Gosport, meaning the Dolphins now know who they must beat to get to the first round proper of the FA Cup.

COMMERCIAL MATTERS Our last home game resulted in a 2-1 win against Paulton Rovers and lifted us to the top of the table. We dropped to second when we were playing in the FA Cup, winning 0-2 at Hastings and setting up an away match at Whitehawk on Saturday in the fourth qualifier. On Tuesday we started the defence of the Red Insure Cup and had a fine result, winning 1-3 at Dorchester with a side comprising mostly u21 players facing a strong Dorchester side. Today we welcome in form Cirencester and need to get more league points on the board before the FA Cup break next weekend. Come on you Dolphins, let’s get the win! I would like to thank County Epos for Sponsoring the Paulton Match, choosing Lewis Tallack as their Man of the Match and Stephen Allen and Carol Garland who sponsored and as season ticket holders, have secured reserved seats in the stand for the rest of the season. For today’s game, we welcome back Portman Stone as Match Sponsor (see their advert elsewhere in the programme) and the Ball has been sponsored by Cliff and Cathy Goddard. Today’s Mascot is Ellie Bumford who will celebrate her 50th Birthday on 21st October. Happy 50th Ellie. Let’s hope you all have a great afternoon and hopefully a Poole Town win. We are doing quite well for Match and Ball Sponsors plus Mascots this season, but still have some availability. If you or your company would like to sponsor a Match, Ball, Player, or know someone who would like to be a Mascot please get in contact. At the time of writing, Jack Dickson is still looking for a Sponsor and we are looking for Match and Ball Sponsors plus a Mascot for the home game against Shaftsbury in the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday 3rd November.
The club turned 125 years old on 20th Sept and to mark the occasion we are looking to form a new Vice-Presidents Board. Cost is £5,000 and in return you will receive free entry to Tatnam for 3 years, with boardroom hospitality, for two people plus seats at the Sportsmans Dinner and End of Season Presentation Dinner, as well as the chance to
shape the future of the club. Interested parties are to contact any member of the board. We finally launched the new fans shirt and wore it away to Biggleswade. If you do not already have yours, you will be able to collect pre-orders from Robtheshirt in the Clubshop.
