BOARDROOM NOTES Chris Reeves Vice Chairman

T

onight we welcome our friends and rivals from Paulton Rovers to Tatnam and extend a warm welcome to Chairman David Bissex and the players, officials and supporters of a side currently languishing at the foot of the table but probably all the more dangerous because of that. Tom will be drumming into the team that Paulton are on a totally false position and that with the recent signing of former Bath midfielder Adie Harris together with the return from long term injury of striker Tom Knighton they will provide another stern test for our lads. Another reason to be wary of the threat posed by Paulton tonight is that I would imagine that they are straining at the leash to get onto the pitch and play, bearing in mind the huge frustration they had to endure on Saturday as they found themselves trapped in the mother of all traffic jams on the M4 which eventually forced the referee to call off their planned away fixture at Hitchin. Leaving with loads of time in hand a quite incredible 30 mile queue proved their downfall. Let us hope they had a reasonable journey here tonight! While Paulton were going through that nightmare we were involved in a compelling tussle with high fliers Redditch here. A gritty determined performance saw us become the first side to beat Redditch since the opening day of the season and three points against one of your main rivals for league honours is always something to savour. There were many stand out displays but I would like to highlight Carl Pettefer’s contribution to the victory.

He was at his imperious best snapping at the heels of the opposition in the middle of the park, constantly breaking up their play, recovering possession and then setting up our own offensive players for another Poole attack. Carl’s value to the team just cannot be overstated and we are very fortunate to have him in our side. Saturday we of course return to Cup action and a visit to Ryman League South side Hastings Utd. Hastings were regular opponents in our old Southern League days at the Stadium but our paths haven’t crossed for 30 years or so and it will be good to go back, hopefully with a good level of travelling support as we seek to continue our FA Cup journey for at least another round. Do look out for the various fund raisers that we will be organising as part of our 125 anniversary celebrations- have you signed up to the 125 bricks in the wall chart in the clubhouse yet? If not see Dick Thomas and he will be delighted to help you put that right! Thursday 12th November we have our annual sportsmanship dinner this year at the Cumberland Hotel. We have some outstanding entertainment lined up as well as a great meal - it is a vital source of revenue for us each year so if you would like to book a seat.........? See details elsewhere in this programme. Finally as ever enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 tickets. Chris

COMP League DATE 29/09/15 REPORT Peter Leppington

R

edditch came in to this game unbeaten in 9 league games, with 5 wins a row in the last 5. Having defeated Poole at Tatnam last season Poole knew they were in for a tough game. This was clearly evident in the first few minutes with Redditch instantly applying pressure, looking particularly dangerous down the right with Jamie Molyneux who was the stand out player. From an inswinging corner (one of over 15 Redditch had during the game), a touch on forced a point blank save from Hutchings. From a goalmouth scramble Redditch blasted over. A lovely cross in from Molyneux just needed a touch but evaded all the attackers. Still within the first 10 minutes and Dubidat brought another point blank save

7

from Hutchings. However Poole did have their chances. From a quick break Roberts hit the bar but was ruled offside. Spetch played a beautiful to Roberts on the edge of the box but for once his first touch let him down for Veiga to gratefully collect. More chances fell to Redditch with Tallack providing a vital block. Osborne’s superb free kick was just finger tipped over by Hutchings. Almost against the run of play Poole broke with Roberts finding Brooks who cleverly got the ball round the keeper who then brought him down. Mysteriously the keeper got no card despite a penalty being awarded. Up stepped Devlin whose well struck shot was pushed on to the post by Veiga but the rebound fell kindly for Devlin to stroke

MATCH REPORT in the net on 36 minutes. If that seemed cruel on Redditch Poole doubling the lead on 44 minutes seemed really harsh. Nice hold up play by Roberts to Burbidge who played the ball in to Brooks who neatly flicked on for Corby Moore to smash in to the roof for his first Poole goal. Despite the 2 goal half time cushion this game was clearly not over and Redditch made an instant response in the second half. Molyneux’s shot took a deflection. The quickly taken free kick allowed a stooping header by Carline 0n 47 minutes to squeeze in to the net. Redditch kept applying pressure and won corner after corner. Steve Devlin was well positioned to head one off the line. However Poole fought their way back in to the game and limited Redditch’s chances whilst creating some of their own. Burbidge had a couple of well struck shots that were saved. From Tallack’s cross Dickson headed just over. Poole were ecstatic to hear the final whistle. This felt like a real “smash and grab” victory against an excellent Redditch team who I would expect to be in the top 3 at the end of the season based on this performance. But credit to Poole for grinding out the vic-

tory. Hutch was awesome with some fantastic saves. Devlin kept going despite a nasty knock and Pettefer seemed on hand to mop everything up in the middle. Roberts did well in his often lone role up front. The defence stayed solid despite Spetch having rings run round him at times by the excellent Molyneux. Victory moves Poole up to third with rivals Weymouth now top (although played 1 game more) in an ever changing leadership battle. This is shaping up to be a very interesting and tight season where consistency will be key. Great victory today – well done lads.

The Fan’s View Jack Tanner gives his view on the match: Poole held on for another three points, beating one of the best teams we’ve seen at Tatnam this campaign. A solid victory against Redditch, who will be up there. Now for another win to keep the momentum going! Paulton may be bottom but we should take nothing for granted. COYD!

CAPTAIN’S NOTES Jamie Whisken Club Captain Evening all So what a week we had last week, three wins out of three, we’ve set the bar now and need to keep things moving forward. The boys were top drawer away at Hayes and Yeading, in the last two seasons we’ve faced conference south sides in the FA cup and although we’ve always done well against them we’ve never quite managed to win the games so to win this 3-2 was a great result, in the 1st we played some of the best football I’ve seen us play in a long while and it was good to see. Up next we face a tough trip to Hastings United this Saturday. Last Tuesday we had a nice long trip to Bideford, never nice travelling to that distance on a Tuesday evening but the lads were professional about our performance, we weren’t at our best but it was a good

13

win and we’ll take the three points. Saturday we faced a very good Redditch side, probably one of the best sides we’ve faced so far this season in my opinion. They caused us problems but we did well to see out the win in the end as I’m sure very few sides will beat them this season. Tonight we face Paulton Rovers who we’ve had some tricky encounters against over the years, we have to keep winning games and being ruthless with it and that’s what we’ll aim to do tonight. Get behind the lads. Up the Dolphins Skip

COMMERCIAL MATTERS Whilst I was not at the game on Satiurday, I hear it was a good one and resulted in a 2-1 win against and in form Redditch and lifting us to third in the table. Another win today could see us go top, depending on other results. Come on you Dolphins, let’s get the win! I would like to thank Rockley Park for Sponsoring the Redditch Match and Mike Christopher who sponsored the Ball and has also sponsored Robbie Yates this season. I would also like to thank Harry and Tia, who are Steve Devlin’s son and god daughter and were our mascots against Redditch on his Birthday, which he celebrated with a goal. For today’s game, we welcome County Epos as Match Sponsor (see their advert elsewhere in the programme) and the Ball has been sponsored by Stephen Allen and Cathy Garland. Let’s hope you all have a great evening and hopefully a Poole Town win. We are doing quite well for Match and Ball Sponsors plus Mascots this season, but still have some availability. If you or your company would like to sponsor a Match, Ball, Player, or know someone who would like to be a Mascot please get in contact. At the time of writing, Jack Dickson and Luke Roberts are still looking for Sponsors and we are looking for Ball Sponsors and a Mascot for the home game against Paulton on Tuesday.

The club turned 125 years old on 20th Sept and to mark the occasion we are looking to form a new Vice-Presidents Board. Cost is £5,000 and in return you will receive free entry to Tatnam for 3 years, with boardroom hospitality, for two people plus seats at the Sportsmans Dinner and End of Season Presentation Dinner, as well as the chance to shape the future of the club. Interested parties are to contact any member of the board. We finally launched the new fans shirt and wore it away to Biggleswade. If you do not already have yours, you will be able to collect pre-orders from Robtheshirt in the Clubshop. Replicas can be purchased in the Clubshop today and orders can be placed online for the home shirt. The fans shirt is a Limited Edition, with only 100 made in total and only available from Tatnam in sizes 10/12, S, M, L, XL and XXL only, so get yours before they sell out. There are all kinds of other bargains to be had in the Clubshop, so give Rob’s Pod a visit before you leave today. The annual Sportsmans Dinner will be on Thursday November 12th with Michael Otton providing the entertainment and details elsewhere in this programme.
