CAPTAIN’S NOTES Jamie Whisken Club Captain

S

o what a week that was! We’ve turned things straight back round again after a tough week the previous. Two fantastic league wins, both in horrendous conditions, neither were a great spectacle, but all we care about were the two lots of 3 points and that’s what we took. The Cambridge game to be honest I would have been very disappointed if we didn’t get the win, it was so important we got back to winning ways and the boys came through. Luke Roberts deserves a special mention, he was on fire and can be unplayable at times, I tell him this every week, it’s just getting him to believe it himself. He’s got so much talent and will be a massive player for us this season. On to Tuesday, it doesn’t get much harder than going to Chippenham on a cold, wet, windy Tuesday night in November. You know exactly what you’re going to get, an absolute battle and that’s exactly what is was. Not many teams will go there and get a point, let alone all three. We were immense, what a team performance. We’re a good footballing side, but in this league you need to be able to mix it too and we can and we had to. It was a battle, but we came out on top, a fantastic first league goal for JD was well deserved and a very important

3

clean sheet for the team did the job. So onto today, home to St Neots, a side we owe one to as they came here and beat us in the play offs last year. Unfortunately I’m suspended today but that’s football, it is what it is. I’m our voice on the pitch, I’ll argue every case for our side, sometimes a little too much. I can’t let Tommy do all the moaning otherwise he’ll be watching from a loft window again. Who ever replaces me I have much faith the boys can maintain our winning ways. Let’s get behind them! Up the Dolphins! Whisk

A LETTER I lived in Poole for the first 47 years of my 52 years, and moved to Wales in 2011. I watched Poole Town when they were still at ‘The Stadium’, and is was so sad that club had to leave the ‘hallowed ground’. I miss Poole itself as well as Poole Town FC & just wanted you to say that I am immensely proud at how well Poole Town FC have performed over the last few years, and especially how well they are doing

at present - top of the Southern League Premier Division! Well done Poole Town!! Tell all the club official and players that they have made an old, disabled, wheelchair-bound, old Poole Town fan, very proud & that I still follow the club on line & always will! With kindest regards from: Ian Rabjohns.

P

icture the scene - ten minutes into a top of the table clash away from home, strong swirling wind and a defender pulling up with a tight hamstring in the warm up,although in fairness what a replacement to be able to bring straight into the starting line up- Will Spetch. What happened in that tenth minute then? A goal of the season contender that’s what. Carl Pettefer fed Luke Burbidge who fed Jack Dickson who then played a one-two with Marvin Brooks and then passed the ball neatly into the back of the net. A quite breathtaking team goal of real quality. The lads then held onto that lead in the face of the elements and the fierce determination of the home side. Four points clear at the top of the table- how good does that look! A great display and typical of this superbly focused squad of players that Tom has assembled and we are lucky enough to support. This afternoon we welcome the players supporters and officials of St Neots FC to Tatnam and I hope they had a good journey here and have a safe trip home. Our opponents today shared four goals with Bedworth on Tuesday and there were five goals of which we netted three when we travelled to Cambridgeshire earlier in the season. If this afternoon’s game is

half as good as that ninety minutes we are all in for a treat. This coming Tuesday we are on the road again with a mega trip back to Cambridgeshire this time to Histon - the dedication of the semi professional footballer knows no bounds- certainly not those that play in the red and white of the Dolphins. If that wasn’t enough then this time next week we are off to Kettering with an overnight stop on the Friday being planned. Last weekend Tatnam supporters will have seen our u12 squad act as ball boys and very welcome they were too. Today it is the turn of the u10s. These lads are our future and do give them a cheer or two when the chance arises. Finally enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 tickets Chris

TOM TALKS Tom Killick

First Team Manager

T

oday we welcome st Neots to the Tatnam. They are a talented team and it was a closely fought affair in the away fixture which we managed to win. The league table looks quite good for us at the moment but we need to be relentless in our pursuit of success and not become complacent. Our last two matches have produced two victories. Against Cambridge I thought we were very good particularly in the first half. However, we were rather wasteful when it came to the goal scoring opportunities that we had and nearly paid the price for that. It’s probably been a failing of ours for some time now that we are not converting a high enough percentage of the chances we are creating and that needs to change . It’s something we plan to work on and I’m confident we can improve. Chippenham was not a game for the purists! However Jack Dickson, who is an exceptional young talent. scored a great goal and then we defended heroically in the second half to get the points. I was proud of the play-

9

ers and the desire they showed to fight for the points. I think it shows what it means to them as a group and how much they crave success. We need to back up things today with another three points and hope results go our way elsewhere. We are have already put a good number of points between us and some good sides in the league which will be difficult for them to peg back. We know there is so much more to do but the players are fully focused and motivated which are good qualities to have. Please try and make us much noise as possible today and create an atmosphere that helps us and hinders the opposition. It makes a big difference Enjoy the game Tom

C0MMERCIAL MATTERS Our last home league game resulted in a good 2-1 win against an in form Cambridge City, last Saturday, putting us back top of the League. That was followed by and even more impressive 0-1 win away at Chippenham, on Tuesday night, in difficult weather conditions. Chippenham had beaten us here at Tatnam earlier in the Season, so revenge was sweet. That leaves us 4 points clear at the top going into todays game as we we take on St. Neots who we already beat away from home, earlier this season. Let’s not forget that they beat us here 0-1 in the playoff SF last season. Come on you Dolphins, let’s get the win and put some points between us and the chasing pack! I would like to thank new Sponsor The Funky Peach for Sponsoring the Cambridge Match and and CityIR who sponsored the Ball. Between them, they chose Luke Roberts as their Man of the Match. For today’s game, Portman Stone as Match Sponsor (see their advert elsewhere in this programme) and the Ball has been sponsored by Rockley Park. Today’s Mascots and Ballboys are our Poole Town Wessex FC u10’s. Let’s hope you all have a great afternoon and hopefully the right result. We are looking for a Match and Ball Sponsors plus a Mascot against Sherborne Town in the Dorset Senior Cup Quarter Final on Tuesday 1st December. After that we have a very limited number of Match and Ball packages left this season. Please check the website for availability. If you or your company would like to sponsor a Match (£180), Ball (£60), Player (£85), or know someone who would like to be a Mascot (£40) please get in contact. At the time of writing, Paul Ayley (Kitman) and Matt Fisher (Physio) are still looking for a Sponsor. The club turned 125 years old on 20th Sept and to mark the occasion we are looking to form a new Vice-Presidents Board. Cost is £5,000 and in return you will receive free entry to Tatnam for 3 years, with board-

room hospitality, for two people plus seats at the Sportsmans Dinner and End of Season Presentation Dinner, as well as the chance to shape the future of the club. Interested parties are to contact any member of the board. The annual Sportsmans Dinner was held on Thursday 12th November with Michael Otton providing the entertainment. Almost 150 were in attendance and the evening

raised several thousand toward the club cause. We have a skittles night tonight. Contact Rob in the Clubshop if you wish to join us. We are also planning another Legends Night (Hall of Fame). This is likely to take place on 19th February. Speak to Dick behind the bar for further details. Mark Bumford, Commercial Director, 07787 600392, mark.bumford@pooletownfc. co.uk
