Our 50 Year Anniversary certainly managed to be memorable with the ordering of 6 special 911 variants proudly distinguished by the illuminated PCW door sills and very special Porsche Exclusive options. Incidentally as of writing this column, five of the six have been delivered to their new homes! We celebrated with our party and decorated our showroom with the 50th Gold theme, one could easily have thought we were in a totally different building. Our lively entertainment constantly kept our guests busy and the food was a success, especially the surprise desert table and 50th cake. Wonderful to see everyone on the dance floor too! My sincere thanks to those of you whom attended, we will be having a 60th party in 2029! Later in September we took a spirited 50th Celebration drive to Canberra, going the long way and enjoying many miles of winding and sometimes fast roads. Our three-day event was a success and all 46 Porsches did not miss a beat. Again, I thank the 70 or so clients that attended we will be having another drive event in September this year, so keep an eye out!

The first deliveries of our new Cayenne Coupé were just prior to Christmas - the sensational looking vehicle has been accepted well by our Porsche clients. I hope you saw our top of the range Turbo in Quarzite Grey with some very special options. The fascinating ability of the Porsche design team to change the whole rear end without losing space! We now have an enormous glass roof panel as standard, instead of an optional Panoramic Sunroof, just like the new Taycan 4S we just drove in Europe. I did collect a few interesting statistics while in Stuttgart, as at Q3 in 2019, PAG Worldwide increased their deliveries from the same period in 2018, from 196,562 to an impressive 202,318 vehicles. Our CSI in Australia lies at 9.5%, second worldwide to China at 9.6%. We are expecting the all new 911 Turbo S in April, the Turbo in September and the ever-popular Targa derivative in November. Our Macan GTS arrives in February and we have some very exciting 718 Boxster and Cayman releases too. As most of you are aware, Porsche do not build a diesel derivative at all. In Australia, the diesel vehicles, Macan and Cayenne, represented 48% of our annual sales in 2015 dropping to only 15% in 2018 and just 2% last year. As we invest heavily at PCW in preparation for the BEV Taycan and then of course the BEV Macan range in 2023, we are not seeing any drop in our overall deliveries, with clients having a good appetite for Petrol and Hybrid models.

I was invited to attend the very exciting release of our new Taycan in November last year; we were the third small group to be escorted around the brand new Taycan factory in Stuttgart where they were manufacturing 20 vehicles a day. Apparently by the end of 2020 they would be completing 140 each day! We then spent four days in Barcelona at various workshops getting to know the three variants currently available in Europe, this did include some extreme driving on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya! We are preparing for the arrival of our “Soul Electrified” Taycan range in October this year, by then we will have the four models, Taycan, Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. The pricing will be released in March this year, we have been accepting expressions of interest for the past year.

In mid-January I am escorting another 20 people to Finland for Iceforce 2020, our next sojourn there will be January 2021. We will be announcing very soon the winner of the Iceforce ’21 ticket that I announced at our 50th Party, one lucky person out of the first 50 sales after our event. On that note, I am proud to tell you that Australia sent more people than any other country in the world to Finland this January! As always, I look forward to greeting you at PCW in the near future. 2

This era is now here; lets spend some time with the car.

Puristic, expressive and timeless. These three Porsche attributes – are forever present as the new Taycan takes our DNA into a new automotive era.

As you approach the Taycan in your garage, nothing stands in the way of your personal driving experience. The vehicle is fully charged, already knows your destination – transferred in advance via the Porsche Connect app – has planned the appropriate route and is pre-air conditioned ready for you to climb in. You are instantly greeted by the familiar Porsche feeling – coupled with the latest technologies. The Porsche Advanced Cockpit boasts a fully digital 16.8-inch curved display, integrated 8.4-inch centre console control panel and 10.9-inch central display. Here, under ‘Notifications’, you'll find constantly updated information that is relevant to you. If you prefer to focus all your senses entirely on the road ahead, simply switch to the minimised view and only driving-relevant content will be displayed, such as speed and driving mode. As pure as the sports car experience behind it. Then you put your foot on the pedal – and the Porsche soul of the Taycan is revealed: two permanent magnet synchronous motors producing up to

460kW (625HP) in the Taycan Turbo S unleash their full power from the start and allow acceleration that can be repeatedly reproduced. The low centre of gravity ensures exceptional cornering that instantly sets your pulse racing – just as you would expect of a Porsche.

So nothing stands in the way of your next spin. The all-electric drive structure of the Taycan provides additional space that we have consistently exploited. The compact size of the electric drive allows an extremely flat bonnet design, resulting in the flat bonnet and pronounced wings that are typical of Porsche and are comfortingly familiar.

As well as design and performance, the focus is also on comfort and range. If required, the car can plan your route, minimising the time taken and making long-distance journeys more comfortable. Fast-charging options make stops short – using the 800volt architecture, when travelling, you can charge your car to achieve a range of up to 100km in five minutes (WLTP) under optimum conditions1).

Lateral air intakes ahead of the front wheels – so-called aircurtains – also improve the aerodynamics, by guiding incoming air over the wheels like a curtain, thereby reducing turbulence. Directly above these is the highlight of the front: four-point LED headlights with matrix beam that combine all the light functions in a single component and appear to be floating.

The intelligent Porsche Recuperation Management (PRM) is self-regulating or can be actively set by the driver – depending on the situation. Thanks to extremely efficient recuperation, valuable miles are also recovered while driving. For both sporty and efficient performance – as is typical of Porsche.

The silhouette is characterised by a dynamic, flat flyline. Flush, automatically extending door handles open the vehicle interior with its deep, sporty seating position. There are two roof

options: the contoured variant made of lightweight aluminium with an indentation in the middle creates a shape that is known to us from motorsport. Alternatively, a panoramic fixed glass roof provides an open, airy feeling.

For the interior, choose between smooth-finish leather, naturally treated Olea club leather and a leather-free interior in various colours. We also offer décor in aluminium, carbon or paldao wood.

The rear design features a seamless light strip made of glass, as well as the ‘Porsche’ logo in glass look. Above these are the Porsche Active Aerodynamics

Accent packages enable selected interior details to be personalised, giving your vehicle an individual signature.

(PAA) in the form of a three-stage rear spoiler system. The cabin tapers backwards and the rear wings are extremely pronounced, as is typical of Porsche. And because there is no exhaust system, the Taycan does not need any tailpipes: leaving more room for a seamless rear diffuser with a sporty, slatted design. A car that reflects the future – and yet instantly reveals the Porsche soul.

The innovative Advanced Climate Control air conditioning (dual or four-zone) may not be visible, but is certainly noticeable: slat-free air outlets enable precise airflow and distribution. As well as the 81-litre luggage compartment at the front for smaller items, the rear boot also provides 366 litres of storage space that can be flexibly expanded, thanks to the individually folding rear seat backrests.

If the standard multifunction sports steering wheel is not sporty enough, you can maximise the motorsport feel with the optional multifunction GT sports steering wheel2): it features a mode switch, as well as a top centre marking.

The key to designing an outstanding drivetrain was the systematic continuation of the purpose-design approach: no compromises with the perfect interaction of drive components.

PERFORMANCE BATTERY PLUS DELIVERS UP TO 420 KW (571 HP; COMBINED POWER CONSUMPTION 25.6 KWH/100 KM; COMBINED CO2 EMISSIONS 0 G/KM) OVERBOOST POWER.

Puristic, expressive and timeless. These three Porsche attributes – are forever present as the new Taycan takes our DNA into a new automotive era. Thus, the Taycan delivers high performance with a long range. This is E-Performance, as can only be found in a Porsche.

Two Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors are therefore installed in the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S – one on each axle – and the performance battery is integrated deep into the underbody. The effect: superior driving dynamics and all-wheel drive that can be optimally adjusted to the fluctuation between efficiency and dynamics in the various driving modes. The concept of the permanent magnet synchronous motor provides high power density, high continuous output and high efficiency in a compact design. A newly developed, automatically switching two-speed transmission on the rear axle ensures noticeably improved dynamics. The interaction of the drive components produces impressive performance figures, both technically and emotionally: with up to 560kW (761HP) overboost is activated with Launch Control, both machines accelerate the Taycan Turbo S from a standstill to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds. And this can be repeatedly reproduced: consecutive acceleration is possible, up to a top speed of 260km/h. This is due to the performance battery, among other things, which is based on 800-volt technology instead of the usual 400 volts. The effect: improved charging and drive performance with smaller cable cross-sections, which has a positive impact on the overall weight.

14

As with any Porsche, the chassis is also the supreme technical discipline in the Taycan. It uses all the Porsche chassis technologies to harmonise performance and comfort. The low centre of gravity due to the underbody battery is a distinct advantage when it comes to handling. Porsche Turbo Charging at selected Porsche Centres further expands the Porsche charging network. Here, you can charge your vehicle to achieve a range of up to 100km in five minutes (WLTP) under optimum conditions2). Thanks to the on-board DC-charger with 150kW, you can also conveniently use public 400-volt charging stations. Added to this are numerous alternating current (AC) charging options, at restaurants and hotels, for example, as well as in many city centres. You can conveniently use any charging point via the Porsche Charging Service (part of the Porsche Connect app).

Celebrating 50 Years of 911% Porsche On Saturday 7 September 2019, Porsche Centre Willoughby welcomed 300 of our "PCW Family" to join in celebrating a momentous milestone - 50 years. We would like to thank everyone who came and helped us celebrate, bottoms up!

It was a night of memorable moments and fabulous firsts as Porsche Centre Willoughby celebrated its 50th Anniversary in a gold glow. The dealership is completely transformed, producing a ground breaking evening dripping in a style that Gatsby would be proud of. On arrival, Sydney’s elite are greeted by five rare and distinct Porsches lining the main entranceway. Inside the entrance doors a woman in gold standing in the centre of a dress made of wine glasses welcoming guests to the celebration, setting a tone of wondrous theatre for the night. Full-length curtains draped over the once bare glass windows like a fabric waterfall. High on a central stage two strongmen impress the marvelled crowd with balance, control and power.

General Manager of Porsche Centre Willoughby, Sean Lygo takes to the stage and noteworthy speeches flow forth. Silk covered Porsche are unveiled in succession, the custom designed models feature illuminated door sills with the words ‘PCW 50 Year Anniversary’ and exclusive colour options created by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, making them truly special cars. Attention is now owned by the five unique PCW 50th Anniversary Porsche cars on offer. Special-edition versions of latest eighth-generation (992-series) 911 led by a Carrera White 4S Cabriolet said to honour the first Porsche cabriolet, the 356 of the mid-1960s. Followed by three Carrera coupes; a bright Racing Yellow 2S that references the 1970s ‘G-Series’ 911, and an Aventurine Green 4S that pays tribute to the metallic colour that first appeared on the 993-series 911 of the early 1990s. Lastly, 2S in the modern Crayon colour.

Liquor flows freely in this atmosphere of opulence and revelry as a contortionist takes the stage to wow onlookers, adding to the lavish spectacle. A mime moves through the crowd spontaneously entertaining guests as Chef prepared food moves through the crowded dealership leaving none wanting.

But the star of the show is a custom-wrapped GT Silver 991-series Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, nodding a homage to the iconic Porsche Speedster. Humbled at the turnout and support of the “Willoughby family” Sean Lygo is thrilled to be celebrating the dealership’s golden anniversary in such style. “The five 50th Anniversary Special Edition Porsche 911s are a tribute to the Porsche brand and the local Willoughby centre over the past five decades, and we are delighted to provide customised offerings to our clients,” he said. Guests mill around exchanging longing looks at the collection of 911’s lined up along the curtain clad wall and marvel over the choice of colour and design. Rumours move through the crowd that some have sold where they sit.

Porsche jubilant strangers, acquaintances, friends and family all take to the dance floor. A dealership celebration like no other! The Willoughby dealership dates back to 1962, when noted technician Bob Atkin and his racing car driver and journalist friend David McKay started the business by selling imported Ferrari, Porsche and Volvo models under the name Scuderia Veloce Motors. From delivering five to seven Porsches each month in the 1990s and becoming known as Porsche Centre Willoughby since 2003, the close-knit boutique-style dealership now sells up to 60 cars monthly - the most popular being the Macan, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and iconic 911.

The towering 50th celebratory cake is cut and an overflowing desert table reflecting the evening’s atmosphere of; Why Not? As the party progresses a succession of live bands and performances play - creating a distinctly casual mood - with

On behalf of the team at Porsche Centre Willoughby, I would like to thank everyone within the PCW community for making the last 50 years truly exceptional. We cannot wait to see what the next 50 years will bring!

911 997 GT3

I was now the proud owner of my very own Boxster, Manual of course in Artic Silver with the most perfect options, originally delivered by Porsche Centre Willoughby. I owned the car for 9 years and loved driving the Boxster on many adventures. I only sold the Boxster after a Divorce in 2014. After a couple of years of having no Porsche in my garage, I started to think of buying another. This time I wanted a 911, but which one, air-cooled or water-cooled? Then in 2016, I was walking across a pedestrian crossing with a green walk sign in Sydney suburb of Brookvale when a guy in a large 4WD ran the very, very late red light.

Words by David Reading

It all started in 1979. I was in my last years of high school, when James Adams and I used to visit the old SVM Lindfield Service Department. On one particular occasion we were lucky enough to start up a brand new Porsche 930 Turbo. Wow, the sound of that Turbo sitting in the workshop was just incredible and I still remember it vividly today.

Later in life when finances allowed, I purchased some fast front and allwheel drive cars. Eventually I realised that the only car to drive was one which was being pushed along the road and not pulled. Nissan Skylines offered the best “bang for buck” and I was able to import five of these big bangers from Japan into Australia including the very first Skyline R34. I had always had a passion for those fabulous red Ferraris too. Sensational looks, great performance and the most amazing sound under full throttle. But after hearing of many Ferrari ownership horror stories, I decided that especially in Australia where we have a small market, Porsche was a better proposition. Porsche had many more models to choose from and the servicing costs were much less. But which Porsche to buy?

He skidded to a stop just missing me by less than half a meter. now through the crossing he looked back to see if he had hit anyone and then he drove away. I thought to myself after that close call "It's good to be alive", and "I want to buy that 997 GT3 I always wanted". Ten days later I had purchased a 2007 Porsche 997 GT3, again in Artic Silver from a second hand dealership in Crown St, Sydney. Before purchase I had the car inspected at a Porsche specialist in Artarmon. The Inspection report said the GT3 was in good condition, so I took the plunge back into Porsche ownership. The options on my GT3 were, a rare sunroof, red seatbelts, and the colour matching of the centre console in silver. A Porsche Specialist in Artarmon said to me “David, how about a sports exhaust system for your GT3?" He said that freeing up the Exhaust with an Akrapovic Race Titanium exhaust would make the LeMans winning Mezger engine preform and sound much better, and also “how about some 20 inch wheels for your GT3?” I agreed to both these suggestions and consequently flew to San Diego, Southern California to see my forged 20 inch HRE wheels being made.

Around 15 years ago I held the winning Auction bid on a 2001 Porsche 986 Boxster.

Now having “added lightness” my 997 GT3 weights 53 Kgs less than when it left the Porsche Factory, I also upgraded the engine computer firmware.

I can still remember the Auctioneer thump down his hammer with the words “Sold to the gentleman who purchased the Red BMW M3 last week”. I quickly sold the Beamer to make way for my first Porsche.

Since I have owned my GT3, I have had many adventures including driving to Queensland on every backroad and driving to Tasmania for a car show and surviving the “Spirit of Tasmania” Ferry crossing in very rough seas. I have also competed in many Porsche Club NSW events including Trackday Supersprints and receiving a 1st in class in the 2017 Porsche Club NSW Concours d”Elegance. I feel that there are many happy years ahead with my involvement with the Porsche Club NSW and remember it all started in the old workshop at SVM Lindfield all those years ago.

Fifty years ago Porsche brought the mid-engine from the racetrack to series production with the 914. The latest incarnations of the engine in front of the rear axle include the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Boxster Spyder.

28

P O R S C H E W I L L O U G H B Y. C O M . A U

Even before it can be seen, the sound is effervescent. It first emerges as a muffled, bubbling rumble that makes the air vibrate. Then comes the ever-brighter crescendo—a bombastic symphony of the sort that only a six-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine can will into being. Brawny. Crisp. Emotional at higher engine speeds. Fractions of a second later, it bolts out of the corner on the test track in Weissach: the most powerful, fastest of its kind, with the potential of an über-Porsche and half a century of tradition in the trunk—the epitome of the mid-engine concept that Porsche took from the track to series production fifty years ago. “The mid-engine sports cars from Porsche possess charming character traits that haven’t changed to this day,” says Andreas Preuninger, director of GT cars. The driver and passenger sit “closer to the machine,” making the driving experience even more emotional. “To my mind, those are critical factors in the success of our mid-engine sports cars.” Until 1969, there was no question about it; series vehicles from Porsche had their engine in the back. But that changed abruptly with the Porsche 914, that boldly drawn, boxy Targa with the removable roof and the hip, pop-up headlights. Like a race car, the 914 kept its four- or six-cylinder boxer engine in front of the rear axle, around which Porsche head designer Heinrich Klie tailored a body that’s undeniably radical. The 914 is eighteen centimeters shorter than the 911 S from the model year 1967, but the wheelbase is nearly twenty-four centimeters longer. At 1.23 meters high, it’s nine centimeters lower than the 911 and four centimeters wider. The result: an exceptionally low center of gravity with reduced weight. Even the bullish 914/6 with the 110 hp, two-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine from the 911 T weighs in at just 980 kilograms, while the center of mass shifts to the middle of the car. All of which, taken together, made

29

the 914—even with 80 hp—an agile, sprightly driving machine by the standards of the day, pressed to the road like a board. With the four-cylinder models, the ignition lock is on the right and the handbrake to the left of the driver's seat. “Mid-engine sports cars have always been at their best on narrow and curvy roads,” says Jan Roth. The director of the 718 model range sums it up succinctly: “Extremely light on its feet and agile.” Exactly 115,631 units of the 914/4 were built at Karmann in Osnabrück through 1976. Meanwhile, 3,338 units of the 914/6 top model came directly from Zuffenhausen until 1972, as did eleven of the Porsche 916 with up to 210 hp, twelve 914/6 GT for racing, and two prototypes with eightcylinder racing engines—specially built for Ferdinand Piëch and Ferry Porsche. The 914 was initially something of a rarity—the fruit of a collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche that ended almost as soon as it began. Today the mid-engine sports car is celebrated as an emblem of a time in which the cars’ Signal Orange found its way into the bathroom decor of the middle class, skirts got shorter, sideburns longer, and the hems on

pants expanded to colossal diameters. Yet the 914 was never about fashion. Indeed, the mid-engine concept was used as early as the 1930s. Ferdinand Porsche incorporated it in the Auto-Union Type 22 race car in 1934. In Porsche’s first sports car, the 356 “No. 1” Roadster of 1948, the four-cylinder was positioned in front of the rear axle, which was aligned centrally with the transmission. But the two-seater convertible didn’t offer Ferry Porsche enough storage space. For the coupe model, the engine therefore shifted to the back, making space for emergency seats and luggage—the birth of the classic Porsche.

The mid-engine idea ignited the Porsche legend. Racing-mad Americans venerated the 550 Spyder. The stunning aluminum two-seater with its initial 110 hp and later 135 hp, vertical-shaft, four-cylinder engine, came to epitomize its era. James Dean—the rebel, cult figure, forever young— perished in one. For the mid-engine 904, officially the 904 Carrera GTS, Porsche first had to build one hundred street-legal units in order to race it. Due to demand, the final number was 116. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche designed the artificial resin bodyshell of the 904—design history. Of the Carrera GTS, it was later said to have put its stamp on an era of racing. And yet, after the end of 914 production, the mid-engine concept was put on ice for two decades at Porsche. Zuffenhausen concentrated on four-cylinder transaxle sports cars like the 924, 928, 944, and 968—until the Boxster celebrated its world premiere in 1996. Its water-cooled, six-cylinder engine was positioned before the rear axle, and the gritty sound and exceptional driving characteristics of the roadster caused an immediate stir. In 2005, the coupe version was launched with the Cayman. “Of course,” says Jan Roth in looking back, “the decision in favor of the

“We build both cars for true fans, for racers and purists who have waited for these models and whom we don’t need to persuade of the benefits of the mid-engine concept,” emphasizes Andreas Preuninger. “They don’t buy a 718 GT4 or 718 Spyder because of their stats, but out of pure devotion.” The coupe and convertible set off a fireworks display of technical refinements. The completely redesigned four-liter boxer engine, now 420 hp strong (309 kW; fuel consumption combined 10.9 l/100 km; CO2 emissions 249 g/km), adopts important components from the new 911, including its electronics. The selective cylinder control cuts out three of the six combustion chambers during constant cruising, thereby lowering consumption considerably. Particle filters help comply with current emissions standards.

The completely redeveloped six-cylinder horizontally opposed engine has direct fuel injection (DFI), integrated dry-sump lubrication and adaptive cylinder control.

The Spyder in particular ups the ante notably with the chassis, which—like the GT4—is based on many lightweight aluminum components from the 911 GT3 and the Cup race car. Newly developed ultra-high-performance tires ensure even greater grip with special rubber mixtures. And the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) driving dynamics systems are precisely adapted to work in lockstep with the new features. And, as in all GT models from Porsche, they can be completely switched off as well. Optional ceramic brakes reduce the unsprung masses per wheel by up to 4.75 kilograms, or almost 50 percent.

mid-engine in the 1990s was also influenced by the desire to distinguish the Boxster from the 911. In addition to the visibly different concept, the more balanced weight distribution and having the weight centered in the middle of the vehicle creates sophisticated driving dynamics that can be experienced.” The Boxster and Cayman were a hit. The year 2016 saw the launch of the fourth generation of the model range. The new model designation 718 recalls the 550 Spyder from the 1950s and subsequent 718 models. Four-cylinder engines are used as they were back then, albeit turbocharged in this case.

The aerodynamics are part of the performance. The mid-engine concept offers sufficient space in the back for a diffuser channel, which improves the GT4’s downforce by 25 percent and cuts the Spyder’s lift by half—without increasing drag. It is what Markus Atz, project manager for motorsport GT street vehicles, refers to as “aerodynamic efficiency.”

This year brings the crowning achievement: the 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Boxster Spyder. Once again, the Cayman GT4 will feature a high-revving, six-cylinder, naturally aspirated GT engine. It’s even more powerful than the predecessor model and also propels the Boxster Spyder, which together with the suspension and the stability control, resembles an open GT4.

PERFORMANCE PLUS: The exceptional handling characteristics that once defined the 914? “Thanks to the modern suspension kinematics and the high grip of the tires, mid-engine sports cars like the GT4 or Spyder drive like they’re from another planet, even without vehicle stability control systems activated,” says Atz with a wry grin. “Fifty years of continuous development do pay off.”

CRISTINA BROGERAS PORSCHE SALES EXECUTIVE

How long have you been employed with Porsche? Tell us about your job history prior to becoming a Sales Consultant with the Willoughby dealership?

Cristina Brogeras swapped her career in a Spanish airline to become a Porsche Centre Willoughby Sales Executive, where her premium customer experience skills are a perfect fit.

Prior to joining Porsche back in 2014 I held a position with a large recruitment firm here in Sydney. Originally from Spain, preceding my recruitment stint I was employed with Spain’s national airline Iberia for fourteen years.

What appealed to you about working with the Porsche brand? Being a passionate believer of the drive that the cars can provide, each model has its own unique experience. The technology is always improving in the current climate and Porsche is a leader in that field.

Please provide an insight into your experience working with the PCW team? We are a small team along with being the longest standing dealership in NSW –this is partly due to our many loyal customers over the years that all of the team here have built forever lasting relationships with. It is not uncommon for generations of families to come through the doors and purchase the car they desire.

Do you have a favourite model? When I come to think of it… One favourite… not possible! A favourite classic would have to be the 993 2s Manual… In particular it has a wide body like a turbo, however is a 2-wheel drive - the rear split wing is the real deal! Following this, the Cayman GT4 offers an analog driving experience in a digital world! I believe in ten years’ time you won’t be able to buy anything like this …don’t say I didn’t warn you! Its hard to go past the interior of the new 992’s, being so refined it is in a class of its own. Like many Porsche enthusiasts we are keenly awaiting the arrival of the new 992 GTS- I’m sure it will be the perfect balance and everyday GT3 without the compromises.

What has been a highlight during your time at PCW? I was fortunate enough to join a small group of Porsche enthusiasts in Kittila, Finland, for Ice Force 2018. The driving program is held over three days on a specifically designed track in Levi, where we were able to learn new skills and push a range of vehicles with spiked tyres to their limits on glassy ice. An opportunity that doesn’t present itself every day! Also, having just completed the Porsche Ambassador Certification, next year I plan to visit the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, Germany – whilst also driving across to Leipzig. 36

Describe your perfect day at Porsche Centre Willoughby? Arrive to the dealership prior to open, enjoy a coffee made by one of the best Baristas in the Willoughby catchment (thanks to my colleague Linda!) on the way through to my office. From here I will see what the day beholds – usually made up with appointments for clients to view and test drive cars, responding to client enquiries in relation to potential purchases and specifications, along with continuing to work on any custom builds that may be in progress.

"I ALSO DON’T MIND GETTING B E H I N D T H E W H E E L O F T H E E A R LY 90’S MODEL SHORT WHEEL BASE PA JERO AND DRIVING ON THE S A N D D U N E S T O F R A S E R I S L A N D." Having recently taken up surfing and with the weather currently warming up, I try to get away to Noosa as much as possible and love spending time around the beaches of the National Park – I also don’t mind getting behind the wheel of the early 90’s model short wheel base Pajero and driving on the sand dunes to Fraser island.

For those lucky enough to be collecting their new purchases, I need to ensure the vehicle has all the specifications as per agreement and paperwork drafted for delivery.

When time permits cooking is also a passion I share, and can often be found comparing notes with local chef Lynne Mullins over a glass of Rioja, or perfecting a Pulpo a la gallega complimented with a glass of Albariño.

Tell us about your life outside of PCW. Being the mother to two dogs, Ella the miniature Dachshund and Cooper the Labradoodle, often I can be found at the park or the beach throwing a ball when not in the dealership.

What are some causes you care about? Being an avid dog lover I have always had a soft spot for charities that support anything dogs and people alike. Most recently Dachshund Ella (also known as Ella the Lowrider!) raised over $2,000 as she marched her very small legs to completing 100km’s for Guide Dogs Australia.

Do you have any travel destinations on your bucket list? Having spent some time in the airline industry travelling across Europe, United States and Central America previously, I have always been drawn to the warmer weather and crystal clear waters. Both the Maldives and Seychelles need to be ticked off my list with their amazing weather and turquoise like water …sooner rather than later I’m hoping! 37

2019 marks 50 years since 1969 - one of the most exciting years in history. It was the year of Woodstock, the first moon landing, The Brady Bunch, and it was the year the Internet was born. The laser printer was invented by a young researcher for Xerox, The Beatles played their last performance... on a roof and Porsche Centre Willoughby came into being. With such a weighty occasion looming, how should the Porsche Centre Willoughby mark the achievement of reaching the fifth floor? Write a book, take up golf, lead seventy clients in fifty Porsches across some of regional NSW best roads over three days and 520kms?

The 50th Celebration Drive is the dealerships first ever 3-day, 2-night drive event. The meeting place to commence the drive was the Blue Mountains own Hydro Majestic, a hotel filled with history, glamour and seventy friends and clients of Porsche Willoughby’s General Manager Sean Lygo. An eclectic mix of fifty Porsche cars ranging from a 1973 991 T to the latest 2019 992 generation 911 fired to life in the morning light, rolling out for the first leg on the itinerary. The destination was the picturesque Mayfield Gardens in Oberon. A beautiful place to take time out, explore, indulge in morning tea and drive the wonderful roads leading right up to its manicured lawns.

The morning's sector of the drive had a particular rhythm set to put even the best chassis through its paces. The convoy arrived at the gates of Mayfield Gardens in groups of smiling drivers and tinking exhaust pipes. Drivers roll up the long unsealed drive to the Hawkins Private Residence and litter the lawns with the marques finest examples. A beautifully light and fresh offering of chef quality nibbles are served with coffee and tea as guests wandered the grounds and spoke about the cars each have brought along. Exiting Oberon in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales, the parade of Porsche heads out again with sights set on Taralga and beyond to the Big Marino in Goulburn. This section carried a quicker pace as the road naturally opened up and the field is immersed in a cracking cross-country blast. Each Porsche displayed its grand touring capabilities while bombing across the long flowing curves.

Led by PCW’s Stewart “Jackie” Budd, country roads by the name of Jenolan Caves, Hampton, Sodwalls and Mutton Falls excited the senses, calling for acute attention to the fluent curves that keep the pace tight and the driving technical.

The approach to the days lunch stop via a highway leg settle the group into anticipation of the family owned and operated Lake George Winery, the cool-climate award-wining wines and a selection of pizzas are a welcome sight to drivers and passengers alike. On departure the pack of Porsche drivers get to appreciate the moving auto-show down the dual carriageway. There were many thumbs up and large smiles occur at the visual delight in seeing fifty cars from Stuttgart moving through the countryside like skittles down a slide en route to the heart of the nations’ capital, our destination and base camp for the night. The Willoughby Anniversary drive participants experienced heritage-inspired five star luxuries at Hyatt Hotel Canberra. Luxurious interiors, deluxe amenities and service washed the days driving action away, leaving room for dinner, drinks and an evening of swapping stories of the roads just travelled. The fifty Porsche convoy exits the secure garage the next morning and venture out onto the tarmac with visions of the Southern Highlands ahead. Morning commuters were treated to the sounds of Porsche Motorsport GT cars mixed with Porsche classic air-cooled engines.

"Morning commuters were treated to the sounds of Porsche Motorsport GT cars mixed with Porsche classic aircooled engines."

The moving event leave the highway and follow Macs Reef road. The driving over this section of country was in the spirit of how Dr Ferry Porsche designed them to be driven - navigating through some incredible roads, pitting briefly in Tarago before a refuel in Marulan.

Ahead was the final run of the PCW adventure. The destination is the hatted dining experience in East Kangaloon; BARN, the wild sibling of Biota. Friends and clients experienced the 100-acre property with glass in hand, appreciating the chance to reflect on the day as lunch is cooked outside over hot coals. The group later were seated together in a communal share format on a generous central table and stalls. Expectations were high and the menu, which featured ingredients best suited to that time of year with a true focus on both plant and animal life prepared with creativity in a primal format - did not disappoint. The meal was to conclude after a short walk out into one of Mother Nature’s finest fields as dessert is served in the open air, making a perfect backdrop for a class of 2019 photograph.

The Porsche Centre Willoughby team would like to thank all who participated for giving us three days of time to celebrating this milestone with us!

The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team enters its maiden season in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. The sixth season of the first fully electric race series of the world spans 14 events in twelve metropolises on five continents.

Neel Jani (Porsche 99X Electric, #18): “It was a challenging second race but our pace was better than on Friday and it represents a big step forward for me personally. We all gained a lot of experience here and now we have to continue the hard work to ensure that we can benefit from that for the upcoming races.” André Lotterer (Porsche 99X Electric, #36): “All in all, a great start to the season with the second place on Friday. We could have scored another eight points by finishing sixth today. Unfortunately, I was demoted after the race finished. I was just overtaking Pascal Wehrlein as the safety car appeared on the circuit. That was just really unlucky in terms of timing."

Michael Steiner (Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development Porsche AG): “What happened today was just crazy. I hadn't expected that. We are proud that we have reached the podium in our first race and we will go on the attack again tomorrow.”

Amiel Lindesay (Head of Operations Formula E): “Following on from Friday's success, that was another good race today. André once again made up some places as he moved through the field. Even though we did not manage to score any points at the end of the second race, it was a positive weekend for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. We have gathered some valuable information and now we have to do our homework. I am happy for the whole team. The results give us confidence for the next races of the season.”

Fritz Enzinger (President Porsche Motorsport and Group Motorsport Volkswagen AG): “What did we learn in Riyadh? Porsche can perform electrically too. Unbelievable – our first race and we made it to the podium. The work we put in over the past year and a half has paid off. André Lotterer was superb and Neel Jani drove well too. A huge thank you to everyone involved in the project and to all our Porsche colleagues who had their fingers crossed for us. Now we are concentrating fully on the second race.”

Fanboost voting gives gives fans the power! The ABB FIA Formula E Championship format At the Season 6 opener, two races will be held on the street circuit – one on Friday and one on Saturday. The day before the first race, 21 November, there will be a brief shakedown. Two free practice sessions are scheduled for the first race day, with the first session lasting 45 minutes and the second one 30 minutes. In qualifying, the drivers are divided into four groups. They have to complete their fastest lap within six minutes in their respective groups. The top six out of all the groups qualify for the 20-minute Super Pole, which decides who will take on the race from the first, second and third rows of the grid. The race lasts for 45 minutes plus one lap. The programme for race two on Saturday is almost identical, however, there is only one 45-minute practice session. Fanboost in Formula E: Porsche is counting on the support of its fans

Fanboost gives fans an opportunity to have a direct influence on the race strategy. A special element to the series making interesting viewing; “We are counting on fan support for Neel und André.” The Fanboost voting for the first Formula E race enables the five drivers with the most Fanboost votes to receive an extra energy boost of 100 kJ during the race! They will be able to use this during a specified time frame during the second half of the race. Fans have three ways to vote before voting closes 15 minutes after the race starts: on the official Formula E website, via Twitter or the Formula E app.

I have to admit that I was a little bit sceptical at first,” explained the Frenchman. But his doubts soon vanished. “Formula E is a fantastic race series. The one-day concept is challenging because there is very little time between practice, qualifying and the race. You need to have a specific plan and be very focused.” Pascal Zurlinden

DAY ONE : THE PORSCHE FACTORY TOUR I met up with my brother from UK in Stuttgart and on our first day we were treated to the Porsche factory tour. Thank you to Porsche Centre Willoughby for the Factory Tour booking, there are no pictures allowed, yet we did see a 935 almost complete on the Production line and also a walk through of the Taycan factory. Outside we met excited customers who had travelled from UK and USA to pick up their cars from the factory with an aim to drive them around Europe for a week or so before handing them back to Porsche to arrange shipping to back to their respective local Porsche Centres.

DAY TWO : PORSCHE MUSEUM AND PORSCHE EXPERIENCE. We picked up a new Porsche 911 992 Cabriolet which was ours for the next four days. The legend of the green hell calls making our first stop the Nürburgring of course. We stayed at the ring at Congress hotel in the Circuit complex just behind the grandstand, we could see the F1 race track from our hotel room. It must be said that this place is heaven for car people as the cars around the ring are amazing – lots of manufacturers mule’s running around including some special Porsche we spotted what looked like the next gen 911 Turbo and GT cars.

DAY THREE : SPIRITED DRIVING COUNTRY ROADS AROUND NÜRBURGRING We drive the Nordschleife in a rental car, which was eventful for some of my fellow drivers as the nights drive on the circuit saw bike and cars crashes, one car was totalled, this saw the track close. Later, once clear, we were back on the ring in a specially prepared car!

DAY FOUR: THE ROAD BACK TO STUTTGART We take the long way back to Stuttgart on day four, driving the autobahn through no limits speed sections testing out the cabriolet high speed capabilities of which they are supreme as the needle saw over 200km/h with roof down.

Cayenne E-Hybrid Porsche devotee Doug Hor talks to W about discovering the hidden gem in the Porsche range, and why its borrowed hypercar technology is the only choice. “I bought my first Porsche in 1979 in my first year in General Practice. It was a Porsche 924 and over the next 40 years I moved through most the Porsche models with 928S, 911, 911 Carrera, Boxsters, Cayenne, e-Hybrid and I am now ordering an additional grandchild friendly Macan. In between there was a smattering of BMW and Mercedes as the 928S had to go when my daughter grew taller than my wife. The Cayenne decision was made when my 911 Carrera could not drive up the access road to our beach house without bottoming out and has remained an essential part of our driving mix. The Boxster satisfies some semblance of performance characteristics but remains my wife’s everyday drive. I picked up the latest Cayenne E-Hybrid on the day we returned from skiing in Japan in March as I had waited for the upgraded functionality with the latest production series. I had hoped for the improved autonomous towing capability slated for towing and was presented with the most impressive Porsche I have ever owned with technology derived from the 918 Hyper-car.

* Maximum system power / Maximum system torque. The technical data may vary from country to country . to the drive78train when Cayenne E-Hybrid: Combined fuel consumption 3.4 – 3.2 l/100 km; combined energy consumption 20.9 – 20.6silence kWh/100from km; COthe emissions – 72 g/km 2

My first two tanks of premium unleaded (75L x 2) gave a range of over 4500 kilometers! My average range is now at 2000 kms per tank which is both unbelievable and mind-blowing.

I have had a look at the future of sports cars and the E-Hybrid is leading the charge. Its technology will filter through to all its models and the Taycan is living evidence of Porsches future direction. Would I buy an e Hybrid in my next car? Absolutely in a heartbeat!

However you don’t buy a Porsche for fuel economy, you buy it for the love of driving and I can say that you can drive the E-Hybrid like a sport car and throw it around corners like on rails. This can even be tightened up by lowering the ride height and turning up the suspension struts in air suspension. Its size disappears and it seems impossible to do what you can do with a Cayenne.

Over the past 8 months, my electricity consumption has gone up about 1-2 dollars a day. Buy the E-Hybrid and you will love it. Nothing else comes close.”
