TH E S P IRI T OF MI XE D M ARTIAL ARTS Youth is characterized by a lack of restraint and roughness in our natures. Although from the start parents have emphasized the control of this unruliness through discipline, this is not always the case. As individuals, we don’t easily conform. With varying opinions and visions, we choose to rebel and experiment with different, dangerous things in our youth; some of us are adventurous and choose to trespass into forbidden territories. Perhaps we bear some anger and lack an outlet to express it. This is natural. All of this anger, desire to rebel, adventure, and wildness can be channelled through the discipline that comes with the sport of MMA. In the gym, mixed martial arts is a code of respect and honor. Through training, and practicing respect on a daily basis, I have seen the wildest, most rebellious children become calm, focused, mixed martial arts practitioners. Through MMA, you learn to stay humble because there is always someone who is more skilled than you, and there is always someone you can learn from. You earn a teacher and a mentor, and this instils values needed to bring out the best in every individual. The most heart-

44

warming thing for me to see, is the discipline MMA instils in our youth. I have seen so many young men come into the gym at KHK MMA, with passion and desire. They have encountered struggles in their life which they couldn’t easily overcome, therefore they arrived at the gym with no achievements, no direction, and no focus in their lives.

“Through MMA, you learn to stay humble because there is always someone who is more skilled than you, and there is always someone you can learn from. You earn a teacher and a mentor, and this instils values needed to bring out the best in every individual.” However, they all bore a will to succeed, even though they were just not sure with what. The first change I noticed in these young men was that through training MMA in the gym, whether it’s working on strength, conditioning,

POWERUP POWERUP BRAVE BRAVE 99 :: THE THE KINGDOM KINGDOM OF OF CHAMPIONS CHAMPIONS NOVEMBER NOVEMBER 2017 2017

or martial arts skills, gave them an increased thirst for life. Due to the fact that increased fitness improves your physique, and you start feeling good about yourself, you begin to have a more positive outlook on everything. You naturally seek constant improvement, and come back the next day, fully motivated to learn. Mixed martial arts is a never-ending lesson and if you commit to the sport, you will never stop learning and motivation will be a constant. The second phase of improvement I see in these young men are their personality. It’s incredible what happens when you give someone an injection of confidence and selfbelief. Suddenly once shy individuals are telling jokes, laughing, being more talkative and walking around with their heads held high. Training MMA brings out the positivity in personalities and their finest qualities. Encouraging vibes flow in the gym and a camaraderie, a brotherhood between fellow practitioners that is hard to find anywhere. Upon starting with training MMA, you realize what you are capable of, and you are capable of more than you know. With an increased motivation to excel in life,

personality and a well-honed discipline, a child is capable of anything and in MMA there is much that can be achieved. The BRAVE Combat Federation, right here in Bahrain, started just one year ago, and are now into its 9th Fight Card! I could not be any prouder. I want the youth of this generation to see that this is an attainable goal. They could be the next superstar, the next world champion and most importantly the next gentleman. Whoever you are, wherever you are from, I urge you to try this life-changing sport. OPTIMISING YOUR HEALTH Let’s talk about Supplements

Dietar y supplements are an extremely hot topic and a highly debatable one. With the number of powders and potions in the market, it can be tricky to decipher between health and hype. Grade A Nutrition enlightens us on why we should consider taking nutritional supplements to improve the quality of health and life. upplements are for everyone. That’s right! Everyone needs a balanced protein in their diet. The reality is, even when we’re very conscientious about eating a well balanced diet, we can often fall short of the mark nutritionally. Supplements then help your body utilize the nutrients in the food for better body function.

S

PROTEIN FACTS Protein is a macro nutrient that your body needs to survive. It builds muscle and repair damaged organs and tissues. The human body unfortunately can’t produce its own protein which is the main reason why people need it from an outside source.

NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS Many nutritional supplements have been proven to prevent or aid in the treatment of health

conditions like high cholesterol, arthritis, birth defects, and cancer. Supplements are products that can come in many forms. They serve as a way to boost performance. Unlike actual foods, they contain minimal calories to none. Supplements act as extra workers for the human body in order to help with recovery, performance and injury prevention. Supplements utilize the nutrients from the foods we digest to build muscles Supplements are fat burners. Fat burners only work, when you put your body in fat burning mode. The supplements then help in turning the body into burning more fat per workout session. Supplements do not replace real food or real exercise. TITLE MATCH EXPECTATIONS The stage is set, and the cage is ready. However, the true question, is who will dominate it?

Alejandro ‘’Pato’’ Martinez While the focus has been on the title, “Pato” isn’t overlooking his next opponent. The Mexican Lightweight knows that Azaitar is a menace to his possible reign as champion, but guarantees that he’ll finish the Moroccan within the first two rounds. “I know he’s a very dangerous fighter. He’s undefeated, with nine wins and there’s a reason he hasn’t lost yet. My coaches have been studying him and we’ll have a great strategy to win this fight. Fans

can expect fireworks. I’m really well trained and motivated and ready to become a world champion”

Ottman “Bulldozer” Azaitar Azaitar shared the news of the promotion’s first-ever divisional world title during a Live Chat on Brave’s official Facebook page. decision. Then, the unbeaten Lightweight star knocked out Charlie Leary in one of Brave’s most exciting fights to date. He comes in against “Pato” with a clean 9-0 MMA professional record. Speaking of his opponent’s credentials, “Bulldozer” admitted he hadn’t yet started to study Martínez’s game but he knows the Mexican has power in his hands. “I don’t know much about my opponent. To be honest, I haven’t even studied him yet. I know he’s tough and a striker but that’s it. I

trust on my potential and I know I’m gonna beat him”, claimed the German-Moroccan.

trains at this very team. “My opponent is a tough fighter. He has defeated some of the best, and now i’m here to face him. I expect that the fight will be exciting. It’s my first time in the title, and I want to emerge a champion!”

Gudarshan “The Lion” Mangat Gurdarshan Mangat is the first fighter of Indian origin to compete for the championship title opportunity in a global mixed martial arts promotion. Mangat stated that he is confident in securing the bantamweight championship title at Brave Combat Federation against Stephen Loman on November 17. “At Tristar gym that trains champions like GSP, I am getting the best facilities and training partners so I will not miss out on any part of the game. I don’t fight for me. I fight for my people, for my family and now for my grandmother, who passed away at the beginning of my camp. I wanted to pull out, but my amazing wife sat me down and allowed me to leave everything to focus solely on the title, on pursuing this dream I have.”

Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame VERSUS Lucas “Mineiro” Martins Coming off his first win inside the Brave cage, Brazilian Lucas “Mineiro” Martins was confirmed as the first challenger for Featherweight champion Elias Boudegzdame. “Mineiro” was the main attraction of Brave’s first visit to Brazil back in March. He defeated Mexican Fabian Galván via an arm-triangle choke in the second round after dominating the action throughout the first five minutes. A few weeks later, Martins went to Abu Dhabi to watch and challenge the new champion, who captured the belt with a submission win over Masio Fullen. After the event, they faced off but their meeting had to be postponed due to the Brazilian being injured. However, their meeting is now set for November 17th, an event which marks the first time a Brave world champion will defend his title. Aside from Fullen, Boudegzdame has also defeated former UFC fighter Walel Watson with an armbar on Brave 2: Dynasty, back in December of last year.
