Bereits zum dritten Mal in Folge präsentieren wir Ihnen in Zusammenarbeit mit den Mercedes Benz Fashion Days Zurich als offizielle Off-Site-­ Location die Trends und Styles der kommenden Herbst- und Wintermode. Am 7. August hat H&M seine zweite Filiale am Flughafen Zürich mit erschwinglicher Kleidung für Damen und Herren eröffnet. Die bereits bestehende Filiale wurde umgebaut und am 14. August mit Konzepten für Kinder und junge Erwachsene wiedereröffnet. Es handelt sich dabei um das erste Geschäft am Flughafen Zürich, das Kindermode führt. Grund genug, einen Blick auf die kommenden Herbst-Trends zu werfen.

On 7 August, H&M opened its second outlet at Zurich Airport with affordable clothing for men and women. The first shop was renovated and re-opened on 14 August with concepts for children and young adults. This is the first shop at Zurich Airport that carries children’s fashion. Reason enough to take a look at this autumn’s trends.

H&M bringt erstmals Kindermode an den Flughafen Zürich

H&M brings children’s fashion to Zurich Airport for the first time

«Wir freuen uns, dass wir am Flughafen bald auch Kindermode und ‹Divided› anbieten können. So komplettieren wir nicht nur das Einkaufserlebnis für die ganze Familie, sondern schaffen auch neue Arbeitsplätze», sagt Sandrine Galparoli, Country Managerin H&M Schweiz.

Am 7. August um 9 Uhr öffnete die neue Filiale ihre Türen – mit Geschenken und Specials für die ersten Kunden. Eine Woche später, am 14. August, fand die Wieder­eröffnung der bereits bestehenden Filiale statt.

Der neue Store lädt auf knapp 700 m2 Damen und Herren zum Shoppen ein. In der bereits bestehenden Filiale wird auf 560 m2 Mode für Kinder von 1 bis 14 Jahren sowie «Divided», das Konzept für junge Erwachsene, angeboten. Somit kann nun die gesamte Familie am Flughafen eingekleidet werden – auch sonntags!

Mit Prints und Kontrasten die Schulbank drücken

Mit der kommenden Kollektion bietet H&M jede Menge Neuheiten für einen fröhlichen Schulstart. In diesem Herbst liegt der Fokus auf Kontrasten und Prints. Karos werden mit niedlichen Tierprints und Kunstpelzdetails zu coolen und charmanten Outfits kombiniert.

Auch sportliche Einflüsse – etwa bei Trainer­ hosen und Hoodies – ziehen sich durch die Kollektionen. Pullover, Strumpfhosen, Jeans, Strick und Sneakers gehören diese Saison zu den Must-haves im Kleiderschrank. Je nach Anlass runden fröhliche und praktische Accessoires den Look ab.

Mädchen tragen also zum Beispiel pinke Oberteile mit witzigen Print-Schriften oder floralen Mustern zur grauen ver­ waschenen Jeans und kombinieren dazu Turnschuhe im Leopardenmuster. Als witzige Ergänzung bietet sich ein Täschchen mit Katzenprint an.

Jungs greifen zu bequemen Chinos in Blau, Braun oder Weinrot und ergänzen sie mit einem lässigen Hoodie mit Aufschrift im urbanen Stil. Ergänzt wird das Outfit mit einem frechen Baseballcap und farblich passenden Turnschuhen.

Kinderkleidung soll jedoch nicht nur trendy, sondern auch funktionell und bequem sein.

Bei Kleidern für die Kleinen gelten spezielle Standards: Sie werden immer sorgfältig getestet, um sicherzustellen, dass sie strengen Qualitäts-, Sicherheits-, Funktionalitäts- und Nachhaltigkeitsansprüchen genügen. Kinder­ mode muss weich auf der Haut und dennoch genügend robust sein, um ausgelassenen Spielen und auch der gründlichsten Wäsche standzuhalten.

«Sicherheit steht bei der Herstellung unserer Kinderkleidung natürlich an oberster Stelle», betont Country Managerin Galparoli.

Beim Kauf der Kinderkleidung müsse man sich schliesslich darauf verlassen können, dass diese robust und gut verarbeitet ist.

Also perfekt für die kleinen Abenteurer, die sie tragen. »We are pleased that we can soon offer children’s fashion and Divided at the airport.

We are not only rounding out the shopping experience for the whole family but also creating new jobs,« says Sandrine Galparoli, Country Manager at H&M Switzerland.

The new shop opened at 9 a.m. on 7 August.

The first customers received gifts and special offers. One week later, on 14 August, the existing outlet re-opened for business.

The new store invites men and women to shop in an area of almost 700 m2. The existing outlet, covering 560 m2, carries fashion for children aged 1 to 14 and Divided, the concept for young adults. Now the whole family can buy clothes at the airport, even on Sundays!

H&M’s latest collection features plenty of new ideas for a cheerful start to the school year. The focus this autumn is on contrasts and prints. Checks are combined with cute animal prints and fake fur details to create cool and charming outfits. Sporting influences – for instance trainer pants and hoodies – are also part of the collection. Pullovers, tights, jeans, knits and sneakers are this season’s wardrobe must-haves. Cheerful and practical accessories round out the look – depending on the event.

Girls wear pink tops with playful print text or floral patterns with washed-out grey jeans and leopard-print trainers. A cat-print bag makes an amusing accessory.

Boys can don comfortable chinos in blue, brown or burgundy together with a comfortable hoodie with urban-style text. The outfit is completed with a cheeky baseball cap and coordinating trainers.

Safety first

But children’s clothes should not only be trendy, they also have to be functional and comfortable. Clothes for kids have to fulfil special standards: they are always carefully tested to ensure that they meet the stringent quality, safety, functionality and sustainability requirements. Children’s fashion must be soft on the skin but durable so as to withstand extensive playing and thorough laundering. »Of course safety is the top priority in manufacturing our children’s ranges,« Country Manager Galparoli emphasises. When buying children’s clothes, consumers must be able to rely on them being durable and well made.

Die beliebte Flughafen-Migros wird bis Ende November auf die doppelte Verkaufsfläche vergrössert. Damit der Supermarkt immer geöffnet bleiben kann, haben die Migros-Fachleute ein ausgeklügeltes Umbaukonzept entworfen.

Die Bauarbeiten haben im Mai begonnen; seit Mitte August können Kunden im hinteren Teil des Ladens einkaufen, während im vorderen alles erneuert wird. Bereits Ende Oktober ist die neue Migros schon fast fertig – es fehlen nur noch die neuen, bedienten Theken, die bis Ende November fertiggestellt werden. Sie dürfen sich auf die neue Migros freuen!

The popular airport Migros will have doubled in size by the end of November. To ensure that the supermarket can stay open for the whole duration, the Migros experts came up with a sophisticated renovation concept.

The construction work began in May; since mid-August, customers can shop in the rear part of the store while work continues in the front section. The new Migros will be ready at the end of October – then only the new staffed counters will be missing, and they will be installed by the end of November. Look forward to the new Migros!

Zum Sommerferienstart war der Radiosender Energy eine Woche lang am Flughafen Zürich zu Gast. Vom 21. bis 26. Juli sendeten die Moderatoren täglich von 5.00 Uhr bis 22.00 Uhr live aus einem mobilen Studio im Airport Center. Reporter waren die ganze Woche am Flughafen Zürich unterwegs, führten Interviews mit Mitarbeitenden und Reisenden und vermittelten den Hörern Hintergrundinformationen rund um das Tor der Schweiz zur Welt. Radio Energy ist auf dem gesamten Areal des Flughafens Zürich auf 100,9 MHz zu hören.

To mark the start of the summer holidays, Radio Energy spent a week at Zurich Airport. From 21 – 26 July, the moderators broadcast live each day from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. from a mobile studio in the Airport Center. Reporters were at the airport the whole week, conducting interviews with employees and passengers and providing listeners with background information about Switzerland’s gateway to the world. Radio Energy can be heard around Zurich Airport on 100.9 MHz.

Das Terminal 2 wird umfassend saniert. Durch die Neueröffnung des Check-in 2 im März dieses Jahres kam es zu diversen Standort­ verschiebungen der Airlines. So werden Singapore Airlines, Delta Airlines und Emirates neu in Reihe 1 statt Reihe 7 abgefertigt.

Momentan wird der nördliche Teil des Terminals 2 saniert, diese Arbeiten enden voraussichtlich im Oktober 2015. Der Abschluss des gesamten Projektes «Aufwertung Terminal 2» wird Mitte 2016 erwartet.

Terminal 2 is undergoing extensive renovations. The re-opening of Check-in 2 in March 2014 resulted in relocations for various airlines. The check-in for Singapore Airlines, Delta Airlines and Emirates is now in row 1 instead of row 7. The northern part of Terminal 2 is currently undergoing renovation, and the work is scheduled to be completed in October 2015. The entire »Terminal 2 Upgrade« project is expected to be completed in mid-2016.

Cathay Pacific verbindet Hongkong mit Zürich Cathay Pacific links Hong Kong and Zurich Ab März 2015 wird Cathay Pacific, eine der führenden Airlines in Asien, Nonstop-Flüge von Zürich nach Hongkong anbieten. Die Finanzmetropole Hongkong ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für die Anschlüsse an das dichte Streckennetz in Asien und Ozeanien.

Der Abflug ab Zürich erfolgt jeweils um 13.30 Uhr mit Ankunft in Hongkong um 6.45 Uhr Ortszeit am darauffolgenden Tag. Der Rückflug startet voraussichtlich um 0.15 Uhr Ortszeit mit Landung in Zürich gleichentags um 6.55 Uhr. From March 2015, Cathay Pacific, one of Asia’s leading airlines, will offer non-stop flights from Zurich to Hong Kong. The financial metropolis Hong Kong is an ideal starting point for connections to the dense route network in Asia and Oceania. Flights depart from Zurich at 1.30 p.m. each day and arrive in Hong Kong at 6.45 a.m. local time on the following day. Return flights are expected to depart at 12.15 a.m. local time and land in Zurich on the same day at 6.55 a.m.

28 Jahre lang war das Flugzeug Douglas DC8 im Dienst am Flughafen Zürich, auch wenn es längst nicht mehr abheben konnte. Es diente der Feuerwehr und Schutz & Rettung, um Notfallszenarien zu trainieren. Nun verabschiedet sich die Douglas DC8 schrittweise in die wohlverdiente Rente. Im Sommer wurde bereits das Fahrwerk demontiert und das Flugzeug auf den Rumpf gelegt. Im Herbst wird es dann in einem zweiten Schritt entsorgt und verabschiedet sich somit komplett vom Flughafen Zürich.

The Douglas DC8 was in service at Zurich Airport for 28 years, even if it had no longer been able to take off for some time. It was used by the fire brigade and the protection and rescue service to practise emergency situations. The DC8 is now being gradually phased out into its well-deserved retirement.

This summer, the undercarriage has been dismantled, thus leaving the aircraft resting on its fuselage. Phase two in the autumn will see disposal of the remainder and the plane’s final disappearance from Zurich Airport.

For the eleventh time in a row Zurich Airport wins the renowned World Travel Award. Among the criteria for the rating are customer satisfaction and general quality standards. In its category Zurich Airport won out over seven other European fellow applicants.

The World Travel Award acknowledges excellent performances in the field of travel and tourism. It is an international competition; the ranking list is made by an online voting from travelling experts and the general public.

Erste Landung einer Boeing 747-8F First Boeing 747-8F lands Unerwartete Premiere: Am 25. Juni 2014 landete das längste Flugzeug der Welt auf dem Flughafen Zürich. Die Boeing 747-8F der Nippon Cargo Airline konnte ihren ursprünglichen Zielflughafen aufgrund des Wetters nicht ansteuern und wich daher nach Zürich aus. Die Frachtmaschine landete am Vormittag und flog am Nachmittag wieder weiter. Die unerwartete Landung sorgte bei Fans und Spottern für Begeisterung. Die Meldung verbreitete sich innert Minuten in allen sozialen Medien.

Unexpected premiere: On 25 June 2014, the longest aircraft in the world landed at Zurich Airport. The Boeing 747-8F of Nippon Cargo Airline was unable to land at its original destination owing to bad weather, and thus diverted to Zurich. The cargo plane landed in the morning and took off again in the afternoon. Fans and plane spotters were thrilled with the unexpected appearance. The report was transmitted on all social media in just minutes.

Wer steckt eigentlich hinter MAC? Zwei Kanadier namens Frank: Frank Toskan, ein Make-up Artist und Fotograf, und sein Kollege Frank Angelo, Inhaber eines Beauty-Salons. Sie beide hegten den Wunsch, Make-up-Produkte zu entwickeln, die auch im grellen Studio­ licht überzeugen und die Models nicht zugekleistert aus­sehen lassen.

Sie wollten Farben, die auch auf Fotos satt und frisch er­scheinen. Die Männer setzten sich also in die Küche und kreierten im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes kanadische Hausmannskost. Die selbstgemischten Farben verkauften sie in Franks Beauty-Salon. Z ­ uerst vorwiegend an be­ freundete Fotografen, Visagisten und Models. Später kamen Redakteure und Stylisten dazu, die in Magazinen über die Produkte berichteten.

Mit jeder Erwähnung wuchs die Popularität, die Mund-zu-Mund-­ Propaganda tat ihr übriges. Der Grundstein für ein Make-up-Imperium war gelegt.

Who is behind MAC? Two Canadians called Frank: Frank Toskan, a make-up artist and photographer, and his colleague Frank Angelo, who owns a beauty salon. Both men wanted to develop products that would give a perfect finish under bright studio lights but wouldn’t make models look plastered in make-up. They wanted colours that would look rich and fresh. So they sat down in the kitchen together and literally concocted some homemade Canadian specialities! They sold the self-mixed colours in Frank’s beauty salon. In the beginning they were mainly sold to photographer friends, make-up artists and models, but editors and stylists also became interested and published magazine articles on the products. Each mention of the products made them even more popular, and word got around fast. The foundation for a make-up empire was thus laid.

Im März 1984 wurde der erste offizielle MAC Counter in Toronto im Untergeschoss eines Einkaufscenters eröffnet. Schon damals standen professionelle Make-up-Artisten hinter dem Tresen. Und auch die Verpackung stach heraus. Sie war nicht pompös verziert, wie oftmals die Produkte der Konkurrenz, sondern in schlichtem Schwarz gehalten.

Besonders beliebt war ein mattroter Lippenstift, der bei einem Foto­ shooting von einem New Yorker Cabaret-Sternchen namens Madonna getragen wurde. Kurz darauf wurde Madonna in einem MAC-T-­Shirt fotografiert und die Revolution begann. Während andere grosse Marken in erster Linie auf Pflegeprodukte setzten, übernahm MAC die Führung als ultimativer Farbkünstler.

The first official MAC Counter was opened in Toronto in the basement of a shopping centre in March 1984. Back then, professional make-up artists were behind the counter. Even the packaging stood out – not with its ostentatious decoration, as was often the case with competitors’ products, but with its slick black design. A matt red lipstick, which had been worn by a New York cabaret star called Madonna at a photoshoot, was particularly popular. Shortly afterwards, Madonna was photographed wearing a MAC t-shirt, and a revolution was born.

While other leading brands concentrated on skincare products, MAC established itself as the ultimate colourist.

Das noch junge Unternehmen wuchs, MAC-Produkte waren alsbald die Lieblinge der Profi-Artisten und landeten in Kosmetiktaschen von Individualisten. Mit der breiten Palette an Produkten liess sich ein glamouröser Look zaubern, kunstvoll inszeniert und doch strassentauglich. MAC zeigte sich von Anfang an innovativ, sei es in der Entwicklung qualitativ hochstehender Produkte oder in der Umsetzung der Unternehmensphilosophie. Als erste Marke in der Geschichte der Kosmetikindustrie investierte MAC in die Aus- und Weiterbildung ihrer Mitarbeitenden. Und anstelle von traditioneller Werbung und Promotionen setzten sie auf das Erlebnis am Point of Sale, um die Kunden für die Marke zu begeistern – mit nachhaltigem Erfolg. Bis heute lässt MAC die Produkte für sich sprechen und überrascht die Fans mit neuen Farben und Kollektionen, oft limitiert, die auf der ganzen Welt gehypt werden.

As the young company continued to grow, MAC products suddenly became the favoured products of professional artists and even ended up in the makeup bags of individualists. The broad range of products could conjure up a glamorous look which was artistic yet practical.

MAC was the first brand in the history of the cosmetics industry to invest in the training and further education of its employees. Die synthetischen Extensions werden einzeln auf die Wimpernhaare gelegt und mit einem speziell entwickelten Kleber befestigt.

The synthetic extensions are placed individually on the natural lashes and affixed using a specially developed adhesive. The natural lashes are protected by the extensions and are not damaged. There is no need to alter your daily make-up routine.

Die Stimmung der Kollektion wird dominiert von einem Mix aus femininen und maskulinen Stücken, mit Trägerkleidern und drapierten Tops, die unter Herrenblazern, Biker- und Fliegerjacken getragen werden.

Wenn Sie auf dem Weg zu Ihrem Gate herzerwärmende Gitarrenklänge vernehmen, hat Willy Claure bestimmt seine Hände im Spiel. Der aus Bolivien stammende Gitarrist, Komponist und Sänger hat einen ganz besonderen Job. Er ist Hausmusiker am Flughafen Zürich.

If you hear the heart-warming sound of a guitar on the way to your gate, it will certainly by Willy Claure. The guitarist, composer and singer from Bolivia has quite a special job.

He is Zurich Airport’s very own musician.

Seine Bühnen sind die Center Bar und das Sprüngli Café & Lounge im Airside Center sowie das Restaurant upperdeck im Airport Center.

Willy Claure ist seit neun Jahren fester Bestandteil des FlughafenMusikkonzepts. Mit seiner internationalen Instrumentalmusik berührt er die Herzen vieler Passagiere. Claure ist ein gern gesehener Gast.

Davon zeugen auch die vielen Komplimente und Danksagungen in seinem Gästebuch. Die Begegnungen mit seinen Zuhörern schätzt er besonders. «Musiker sein und von Musik leben zu dürfen, ist ein grosses Privileg», schwärmt Claure von seinem Flughafen-Engagement.

Der 52-Jährige greift aber nicht nur am Flughafen Zürich in die Saiten.

In seiner Heimat Bolivien ist er ein bekannter Musiker, Komponist und Produzent. Er gibt Konzerte in der Schweiz, Europa und Latein­amerika – und organisiert diese gleich selbst. Auch für Privatveranstaltungen kann der in St. Gallen lebende Künstler gebucht werden.

Seit 1994 lebt Willy Claure in der Schweiz. Seine grosse Leidenschaft gilt aber nach wie vor der Musik aus seiner bolivianischen Heimat. Insbesondere der «Cueca», einem traditionellen südamerikanischer Paartanz. Dabei drehen sich die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer im Halbkreis umeinander. Sie schauen sich in die Augen, berühren sich aber nie.

Der studierte Anthropologe entdeckte schon früh im Leben seine Leidenschaft für die Musik. Im Alter von 13 Jahren begann er, sich als Autodidakt das Musizieren beizubringen.

In den letzten Jahren sind aus Claures Arbeit mehrere CDs und Bücher entstanden. Sein neustes Werk heisst «Para no bailar» und ist eine Premiere. Nach ausschliesslich instrumentalen CDs ist dies das erste Projekt, in dem Claude selbst singt. Er wird dabei von neun bekannten lateinamerikanischen Sängern begleitet. Ob auf der CD oder Live am Flughafen Zürich – Willy Claure versteht es, die Zuhörer zu verzaubern und dem Flughafenalltag ein wenig von seiner Hektik zu nehmen.

His stages are the Center Bar in the Airside Center, the Sprüngli Café & Lounge in the Airside Center, and the upperdeck restaurant in the Airport Center. Willy Claure has been an established part of the airport’s music concept for nine years. He touches the hearts of many passengers with his international instrumental music. Claure is a welcome guest, and his guest book testifies to this with many compliments and thanks. He especially appreciates the encounters with his listeners. »Being able to be a musician and live off music is a great privilege,« Claure is enthusiastic about his airport engagement.

But the 52-year-old doesn’t just practise his art at Zurich Airport. In his home country, Bolivia, he is a well-known musician, composer and producer. He gives concerts in Switzerland, Europe and Latin America and organises them himself. The musician, who lives in St. Gallen, can be booked for private events too.

Willy Claure has lived in Switzerland since 1994. His great passion, however, remains the music of his Bolivian homeland. In particular the »Cueca«, a traditional South American couple’s dance. The dancers turn around each other in a semi-circle. They look into each other’s eyes but never touch.

Claure, who studied anthropology, discovered his passion for music at an early age. He started to teach himself how to play when he was 13.

In recent years, a number of CDs and books about his work have been produced. His latest work is called »Para no bailar« and is a premiere. After a series of purely instrumental CDs, this is the first project that includes vocals. In addition to his own voice, nine wellknown Latin American singers accompany Claure on the CD. Whether on a CD or live at Zurich Airport, Willy Claure knows how to enchant listeners and relieve of them of a little of the airport’s daily hustle and bustle.

Am 18. Juni wurde die neue Schallschutzhalle für die Durchführung von Triebwerktests am Flughafen Zürich eingeweiht – ein wichtiger Meilenstein zur nachhaltigen Verbesserung der Lärmsituation, vor allem während den Nachtstunden.

On 18 June, the new noise protection hangar for conducting engine tests at Zurich Airport was inaugurated. The new hangar is a major step towards improving the noise situation in the long term, especially during the night.

Auf den ersten Blick scheint es einfach: Die neue Schallschutzhalle soll die Anwohner vor Triebwerklärm schützen und daher so schalldicht und geschlossen wie möglich sein. Das Problem: Die Triebwerke benötigen eine grosse Menge Zuluft und produzieren eine grosse Menge Abluft.

Daher muss die Halle nicht nur schalldicht, sondern auch luftdurchlässig sein. Diesen unterschiedlichen Ansprüchen galt es bei der Planung und dem Bau der Schallschutzhalle gerecht zu werden. Bei der Umsetzung wurde mit Projektpartnern aus Deutschland zusammengearbeitet, die am Flughafen Hamburg bereits erfolgreich eine Schallschutzhalle errichtet hatten.

Die angrenzenden Gemeinden wurden ebenfalls in das Projekt Schallschutzhalle einbezogen. Ihr Ziel ist klar, die Lärmbelastung soll möglichst gering gehalten werden. In Zusammenarbeit mit diesen Gemeinden wurde daher ein sogenanntes Lärmkontingent definiert: Die Lärm­belastung wird gemessen und mit einem eigens dafür entwickelten Dosimeter auf­ addiert. Ist das Lärmkontingent voll, dürfen im betreffenden Zeitraum keine weiteren Triebwerktests mehr durchgeführt werden.

Mit der Projektierung der neuen Schallschutzhalle wurde 2011 begonnen. Die Tiefbauarbeiten starteten im Oktober 2012 und nach gut eineinhalb Jahren Bauzeit wurden im Juni 2014 die Hochbauarbeiten abgeschlossen. Am 18. Juni wurde die Halle mit 120 geladenen Gästen von Thomas Kern, CEO der Flughafen Zürich AG, Regierungsrat Ernst Stocker und Swiss-CEO Harry Hohmeister eingeweiht.

At first glance it seems simple: the new noise protection hangar is designed to protect residents against engine noise and be as soundproof and closed-off as possible. The problem: the engines require a large amount of air and produce a large amount of exhaust. The hangar therefore needs to be soundproof while also allowing air to circulate. These diverging needs had to be factored in to the planning and construction of the noise protection hangar. Project partners from Germany were engaged for the implementation phase who had already successfully set up such a hangar at Hamburg Airport.

The neighbouring municipalities were also involved in the noise protection hangar project. Their goal is clear: to reduce noise pollution as much as possible. A so-called noise quota was thus defined together with these municipalities. In other words, noise pollution will be measured and totalled using a specially developed dosimeter. Once the quota has been reached, no further engine tests may be conducted in the period in question.

Planning work for the new noise protection hangar began in 2011. The civil engineering work commenced in October 2012, and the construction work was completed after approximately 18 months in June 2014. The hangar was inaugurated on 18 June with 120 guests in the presence of Thomas Kern, CEO of Flughafen Zürich AG, Government Councillor Ernst Stocker and SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister.

Hundert Nachtschichten für eine Piste A hundred night shifts for one runway

Am Flughafen Zürich wird der Mittelstreifen der Piste 14 / 32 saniert. Da der reguläre Flug­ betrieb nicht beeinträchtigt werden darf, werden die Sanierungsarbeiten jeweils nachts durchgeführt. Dank der logistischen Meisterleistung und dem guten Wetter laufen alle Arbeiten nach Plan.

All the work is proceeding on schedule, thanks to the excellent logistics and favourable weather conditions.

In rund hundert Nachtschichten wird die Piste 14 / 32 saniert. Die Piste, welche seit 1976 in Betrieb ist, wird als Hauptlandepiste stark beansprucht. Nach fast vierzig Jahren ist eine Totalsanierung dieser wichtigen Infrastruktur notwendig.

Seit Mitte März 2014 läuft nun die spannendste und sichtbarste Phase der Sanierung. Der 22,5 Meter breite Mittelstreifen der 3300 Meter langen und 60 Meter breiten Betonpiste wird durch einen mehrschichtigen Asphaltbelag ersetzt. Da eine mehrmonatige Pistensperre für den Flughafen Zürich nicht in Frage kommt, muss die Piste in Nachtschichten saniert werden. Denn der reguläre Flugbetrieb muss weiterhin sichergestellt werden. Die Arbeiten auf der Piste werden in einem Zeitfenster von neun Stunden, von 22.00 Uhr bis 7.00 Uhr, über fünf Nächte pro Woche mit Beginn am Sonntagabend und Ende am Freitagmorgen ausgeführt. Am nächsten Morgen um spätestens 6.30 Uhr müssen die Flugbetriebsflächen gereinigt, kontrolliert und zur Abnahme bereit sein. Das erste Flugzeug landet bereits um 7.00 Uhr auf dem neuen, sanierten Pistenabschnitt. Die logistischen Heraus­ forderungen sind enorm.

Eine weitere Herausforderung stellt das Wetter dar. Während die Abbrucharbeiten auch bei Regen möglich sind, müssen für die Belags­arbeiten trockene Verhältnisse herrschen. Jeden Vorabend wird aufgrund von Wetterkartenanalysen entschieden, ob die Bauarbeiten durchgeführt werden. Bislang lief alles nach Plan, bei den Arbeiten konnten grosse Fortschritte erzielt werden. Die Sanierung dauert voraussichtlich noch bis Ende Oktober 2014.

The runway, which has been in operation since 1976, is in heavy use as the main landing runway. After almost forty years, complete refurbishment of this important infrastructure was required.

The most interesting and visible phase of the renovation has been under way since mid-March 2014. The 22.5-metre-wide centreline of the 3300-metre long and 60-metre-wide concrete runway is being replaced with a multi-layer asphalt surface. As it is not possible to close the runway for several months, it has to be renovated in night shifts so that regular flight operations can continue. The work on the runway is being carried out during a 9-hour window between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on five nights a week, beginning on Sunday evening and ending on Friday morning. The areas used for flight operations must be cleaned, inspected and signed off by 6.30 a.m. at the latest the following morning as the first plane comes in to land at 7 a.m. on the newly renovated runway section. The logistical challenges are huge.

And the weather poses a further challenge. Although the dismantling work can be carried out while it is raining, dry conditions are needed for the resurfacing. The evening before each shift, weather maps are analysed to decide if the construction work can be carried out. To date, everything has proceeded on schedule, and significant progress has been made. The refurbishment work is set to continue until the end of October 2014.

Succulent beef patty with salsa sauce, jalapeños, cheese, onions, gherkins and tortilla chips

Zutaten Ingredients 1 Stk Burger Bun mit Sesam 1 sesame burger bun 150 g Rindshacksteak 150 g beef patty 30 g Salsa-Sauce »Chunky Salsa Medium« 30 g salsa sauce »Chunky Salsa Medium« 2 Scheiben Cheddar-Käse 2 slices of cheddar cheese 10 g rote Zwiebeln 10 g red onion 20 g Tortilla-Chips 20 g tortilla chips Salatblätter Salad leaves Cornichons Gherkins Jalapeños Jalapeño chillies

Zubereitung Preparation Den Burger Bun im Ofen oder im Toaster leicht rösten.

Das Rindshacksteak in einer Pfanne nach Belieben an­ braten, bevorzugte Garstufe ist «Medium». Nun den getoasteten Bun mit Salsa-Sauce bestreichen und die untere Seite mit dem Salat und Cornichons belegen. Als nächster Schritt das gebratene und noch heisse Rindshacksteak mit dem Cheddar-Käse belegen, damit der Käse auf dem Rindshacksteak schmilzt.

Auf der unteren Seite des Buns anrichten. Jetzt die Zwiebeln und die Jalapeños dazugeben. Zum Schluss nochmals Salsa-Sauce draufgeben und die Tortilla-Chips auf den Burger legen. Jetzt mit der oberen Hälfte zuklappen.

Mit Hilfe eines Spiesses kann die obere Hälfte des Buns befestigt werden.

Zu diesem Gericht passt ein hausgemachter Eistee oder ein kühles Bier perfekt.

Lightly toast the burger bun in the oven or toaster.

In a pan, fry the beef patty to your liking, preferably medium-done. Spread the salsa sauce inside the upper half of the bun and place the salad leaves and gherkins on the other half. Then put the cheddar cheese on top of the beef patty while it is still hot so that the cheese melts, and put this combination on the lower half of the bun. Add the onion and the jalapeños. Drizzle some more salsa sauce on top and place the tortilla chips on the burger. Finish by placing the upper half on top.

Use a skewer to keep the upper half of the bun in place.

Enjoy with a chilled, home-made iced tea or a cold beer.

Die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate (UAE), an der Küste des Persischen Golfes gelegen und mit Zugang zum Golf von Oman, grenzen an die Länder Saudi-Arabien und Oman. Die Föderation von sieben Emiraten im Südosten der Arabischen Halbinsel besteht aus Abu Dhabi, Adschman, Dubai, Fudschaira, Ra’s al-Chaima, Schardscha und Umm al-Qaiwain. Die Hauptstadt ist Abu Dhabi, der Islam die offizielle Religion und Arabisch die offizielle Sprache.

Das politische System gründet auf der Verfassung von 1971. Das siebte Emirat Ra’s al-Chaimah kam ein Jahr später 1972 dazu.

Die VAE besitzen die weltweit siebtgrössten Ölvorkommen und gehören somit zu den reichsten Ländern der Welt. In den letzten Jahren konzentriert sich das Emirat auf ein wirtschaftliches Diversifizierungsprogramm, um die Abhängigkeit von Öl und Erdgas zu reduzieren. Im Fokus des Programms stehen Industrie, Immobilien und Einzelhandel, vor allem aber der Tourismus. Um die damit verbundenen Ziele zu erreichen nahm im Jahr 2003 Etihad Airways ihren Betrieb auf und beförderte als nationale Fluggesellschaft der Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate nur zehn Jahre später bereits über 11 Millionen Passagiere pro Jahr. Von ihrem Drehkreuz am Abu Dhabi ­International Airport bedient Etihad Airways 103 Passagierund Cargo-Destinationen im Nahen Osten sowie in Afrika, Europa, Asien, Australien und Amerika. Die Flotte umfasst über 100 Airbusund Boeing-Flugzeuge. Weitere 220 Maschinen sind bestellt, darunter Airbus A380. Die Einführung der täglichen Nonstop-Flüge zwischen Abu Dhabi und Zürich seit 1. Juni 2014 bietet Reisenden eine grössere Wahlfreiheit. Für uns ist das eine ideale Gelegenheit, Etihad Airways und die Destination Abu Dhabi genauer vorzustellen.

The UAE have the world’s seventh-largest oil reserves and are therefore one of the richest countries in the world. In recent years, the emirate has focused on an economic diversification programme to reduce dependency on oil and natural gas. The diversification programme concentrates on industry, real estate and retail trade, and especially on tourism. In order to achieve these goals, in 2003 Etihad Airways – as the national airline of the United Arab Emirates – commenced operations and now, ten years later, carries over 11 million passengers a year. From its hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Etihad Airways serves 103 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA. The fleet comprises over 100 Airbus and Boeing aircraft. A further 220 planes are on order, including the Airbus A380 super Jumbo.

The introduction of the daily non-stop flights between Abu Dhabi and Zurich on 1 June 2014 offers travellers a greater choice. For us, this is an ideal opportunity to present Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi as a destination in greater detail.

Etihad Airways Etihad Airways tritt als Nationalfluglinie der VAE auf. Ge­gründet wurde sie im Juli 2003 per Regierungserlass des Emirs von Abu ­Dhabi Chalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan. Von der Regierung wurde Kapital für den Start zur Verfügung gestellt. Etihad befindet sich vollständig im Besitz der Regierung von Abu Dhabi, d. h. der Herrscherfamilie Al Nahyan. Etihad hat seit Beginn des Flugdienstes im Jahr 2003 unzählige Anerkennungen für ihren Komfort und Service bekommen, so unter anderem bei den World Travel Awards 2013 die Auszeichnung «führende Fluggesellschaft».

Der Flugbetrieb begann am 5. November 2003 mit einem zeremoniellen Flug nach al-Ain. Der erste kommerzielle Flug mit dem Ziel Beirut fand am 12. November 2003 statt. Im ersten vollständigen Betriebsjahr 2004 transportierte Etihad rund 340 000 Passagiere. Drei Jahre später im Jahr 2007 waren es bereits über 4,6 Millionen und 2008 schliesslich 6 Millionen Passagiere.

Im Dezember 2011 kündigte Etihad an, sich an der finanziell angeschlagenen Air Berlin zu beteiligen und somit zum grössten Einzel­aktionär zu werden. Zudem soll eine umfangreiche Kooperation erfolgen, darunter ein Codeshare-Abkommen sowie die Konformität bei den jeweiligen Vielfliegerprogammen. Im Zuge dessen fliegt Air Berlin von Berlin aus neu Abu Dhabi statt Dubai an.

Im Juli 2012 wurde bekanntgegeben, dass Etihad mit Air France‑KLM eine Zusammenarbeit eingehen wird. Auch die Entstehung eines Gemeinschaftsunternehmens ist nicht ausgeschlossen. Im 3. Quartal 2012 wurde ausserdem ein Codeshare- sowie Interline­abkommen mit Aer Lingus gestartet.

Am 1. August 2013 wurde die Übernahme von 49 Prozent an JAT Airways durch Etihad Airways bekannt gegeben. Die Gesellschaft heisst seit Ende Oktober 2013 Air Serbia.

Im Oktober 2013 genehmigte die indische Regierung die Beteiligung in Höhe von 24 Prozent an Jet Airways für 20,6 Milliarden Rupien (etwa 246 Millionen Euro).

Im November 2013 wurde bekanntgegeben, dass Etihad Airways einen Anteil von 33,3 Prozent an der Schweizer Regionalfluggesellschaft Darwin Airline übernehmen werde. Diese operiert heute unter der Marke Etihad Regional und will deutlich wachsen.

Seit Dezember 2013 ist bekannt, dass zwischen Etihad Airways und Alitalia Diskussionen um eine allfällige Kapitalerhöhung laufen.

Mit der Aufnahme der Strecke Zürich-Abu Dhabi – ab 1. Juni 2014 – wird die Expansionsstrategie eindrücklich weitergeführt. Der Flug stellt nicht nur die perfekte Ergänzung der täglichen Flüge von Etihad Airways zwischen Genf und Abu Dhabi dar, sondern bietet Reisenden generell eine grössere Wahlfreiheit. Zudem wird dies die Schweiz als Hub des Europäischen Luftverkehrs weiter stärken.

Ab Zürich bietet heute Etihad Airways – via Luftdrehkreuz in Abu Dhabi – Anschlüsse an 25 internationale Destinationen in der Golf­ region, im Indischen Subkontinent, in Afrika, Asien und Australien.

In Verbindung mit den globalen Netzwerkpartnern Air Seychelles, Jet Airways und Virgin Australia kann Etihad Airways jetzt ab Zürich und Genf perfekte Anschlüsse an insgesamt 44 Destinationen weltweit bieten.

Etihad Airways Etihad Airways as the national airline of the UAE. It was founded in July 2003 by a government decree issued by the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Khalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan. The government provided capital to set up the company. Etihad is wholly owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, i.e. the ruling Al Nahyan family. Since commencing flight operations in 2003, Etihad has won countless awards for its comfort and service, including the World Travel Award in 2013 as the »World’s Leading Airline«.

Flights commenced on 5 November 2003 with a ceremonial flight to al-Ain. The first commercial flight bound for Beirut was made on 12 November 2003. In its first full year of operation in 2004, Etihad transported around 340 000 passengers. Three years later, in 2007, that number rose to 4.6 million, and in 2008 passengers numbered 6.0 million.

In December 2011, Etihad announced that it would take up a stake in Air Berlin, which was in financial difficulties, thus becoming the biggest single shareholder. Moreover, an extensive cooperation agreement is set to follow, including a codeshare agreement and conformity with the relevant frequent flyer programmes. As a result, Air Berlin switched its Berlin-Dubai route to Berlin-Abu Dhabi.

In July 2012 Etihad announced that it was entering into a cooperation agreement with Air France-KLM. The establishment of a joint venture is also a possibility. In the third quarter of 2012, a codeshare and interline agreement was launched with Aer Lingus.

On 1 August 2013, the acquisition of a 49 % stake in JAT Airways was announced by Etihad Airways. Since October 2013 the company has been known as Air Serbia.

In October 2013, the Indian government approved a 24 % stake in Jet Airways for 20.6 billion rupees (around 246 million euros).

In November 2013, it was announced that Etihad Airways would take over 33.3 % of the Swiss regional airline Darwin Airline. This is now operating as Etihad Regional and intends to grow significantly.

The news that Etihad Airways and Alitalia have been discussing a possible capital increase broke in December 2013. The launch of the Zurich-Abu Dhabi route on 1 June 2014 is another significant step forward in the expansion strategy. In addition to perfectly complementing the daily Etihad Airways flights between Geneva and Abu Dhabi, the flight also offers travellers a wider choice. It will also strengthen Switzerland’s role as a hub for European aviation.

Etihad Airways offers connections from Zurich – via its hub in Abu Dhabi – to 25 international destinations in the Gulf, Africa, Asia and Australia and on the Indian subcontinent. In connection with its global network partners Air Seychelles, Jet Airways and Virgin Australia, Etihad Airways can now offer ideal connections from Zurich and Geneva to a total of 44 destinations worldwide.

Etihad Airways offers passengers bound for Zurich and Geneva seamless connections within Europe to 22 destinations served by the Etihad Regional network, including domestic flights from Zurich to Geneva and from Geneva to Lugano and Zurich.

Abu Dhabi Die Organisationsform von Etihad Airways ist durch eine sehr flache Hierarchie und entsprechend kurze Entscheidungswege gekennzeichnet, was nicht zuletzt daran liegt, dass sämtliche Leitungs- und Entscheidungsfunktionen bei der Herrscherfamilie, also den Eigen­tümern, gebündelt sind. Höchste Zeit also, sich mit Scheich Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan, dem Chairman von Etihad, zu befassen und damit auch Abu Dhabi genauer anzuschauen.

Das Emirat wurde 1791 als Siedlung nahe einer Süsswasserquelle vom Beduinenstamm der Bani Yas unter Schachbut bin Dhiyab gegründet, nachdem sie von seinem Vater Dhiyab bin Isa entdeckt ­worden war. Sie verlegten ihren Hauptsitz nach Abu Dhabi. Grund war die zunehmende Expansion der Wahhabiten aus dem Nadschd, die sich auch gegen die Beduinen an der Golfküste richtete. 1833 ­löste sich Dubai unter dem Clan der Al Maktum vom Emirat Abu Dhabi.

Unter Scheich Zayid bin Chalifa (1855 – 1908) begann der Aufstieg des Emirats. Ihm gelang die Wahrung der Souveränität gegenüber dem britischen Machtanspruch. Abu Dhabi entwickelte sich zu einem bedeutenden Zentrum des Perlenhandels. Die nach seinem Tod ausbrechenden Machtkämpfe wurden erst unter Scheich Schachbut (1928 – 1966) beendet. Allerdings brach 1930 mit der Einführung der japanischen Zuchtperlen die Perlenfischerei als wichtiges wirtschaft­ liches Standbein für das Land zusammen. Erst mit Beginn der Erdölförderung und der Ablösung Schachbuts durch seinen Bruder Scheich Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1966 – 2004) konnte sich die Wirtschaft des Emirates wieder entwickeln.

Am 2. Dezember 1971 entliess Grossbritannien die ehemaligen Trucial States, zu denen auch Abu Dhabi gehört, in die Unabhängigkeit. Unter Führung des Emirates Abu Dhabi wurden die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate aus den ehemaligen Trucial States Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Schardscha, Adschman, Umm al-Qaiwain und Fudschaira gegründet. Am 10. Februar 1972 trat Ra’s al-Chaima als siebter und letzter ehemaliger Trucial State der Föderation bei.

Am 1. Januar 1974 führte Abu Dhabi eine Teilverstaatlichung der Ölwirtschaft durch. Der Staat Abu Dhabi beliess den produzierenden Gesellschaften 40 Prozent.

The emirate was established in 1791. It began as a settlement close to a fresh water spring, set up by the Bani Yas Bedouin tribe under Shakhbut bin Dhiyab after the spring was discovered by his father Dhiyab bin Isa. They subsequently moved their main place of residence to Abu Dhabi, owing to the growing expansion of the Wahhabis from Najd, which also affected the Bedouin on the Gulf coast. In 1833, Dubai – under the Al Maktum clan – separated from the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The emirate’s rise began under Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa (1855 – 1908). He succeeded in preserving sovereignty in the face of the British claim to power. Abu Dhabi developed to become a major centre for pearl trading. The power struggle that erupted after his death was only ended under Sheikh Shakhbut (1928 – 1966). However, the introduction of Japanese cultured pearls in 1930 resulted in the collapse of pearl fishing as the country’s main economic engine. The emirate’s economy was only able to develop again with the commencement of oil production and the replacement of Shakhbut by his brother Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1966 – 2004).

On 2 December 1971, Britain released the former Trucial States – which included Abu Dhabi – into independence. Under the leadership of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates were founded from the former Trucial States Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain and Fujairah. On 10 February 1972, Ra’s al Khaima joined the federation as the seventh and last former Trucial State.

On 1 January 1974, Abu Dhabi partially privatised the oil industry. The state of Abu Dhabi left the producing companies with a 40 % share.
