TUTTO IL MONDO A IMOLA

A fine maggio, il terzo round dell’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth fa tappa a Imola per il primo dei due appuntamenti previsti sul circuito Enzo e Dino Ferrari dal calendario 2016. 33 i piloti al via, in rappresentanza di ben 18 Paesi. Un respiro davvero internazionale per il campionato F.4, ribadito anche e soprattutto dalla classifica generale che vede ai primi 10 posti, piloti di 10 nazionalità diverse. Davanti a tutti, dopo le prima due tappe, c’è l’argentino Siebert, che precede il messicano Guzman e il venezuelano Baiz. Quarto il tedesco Mick Schumacher.

ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE AT IMOLA

The third round of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth visited Imola in late May for the first of two meetings scheduled at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit on the 2016 calendar.

There were 33 drivers at the start, representing a grand total of 18 countries. A truly international flavour to the F.4 championship, also reiterated by the general standings which saw drivers of 10 different nationalities in the top 10 places. Right at the front, after the first two stages, was the Argentine Siebert, ahead of Mexico’s Guzman and Venezuela’s Baiz. Germany’s Mick Schumacher was fourth.

GRANDE SPETTACOLO SOTTO LA PIOGGIA

Schumacher, dopo l’assenza nel round 2, parte a spron battuto e fa segnare il miglior tempo assoluto che gli vale la pole di Gara 2. In Gara 1, invece, la prima fila è conquistata dall’attuale leader della graduatoria: Siebert, del Jenzer Motorsport.

Il duello tra i due si rinnova al via proprio di Gara 1: il tedesco del Prema Power Team recupera in fretta dalla quarta alla seconda piazza e incalza Siebert, che però è bravo a difendersi e a vincere. Con la classifica “congelata” dall’ingresso della safety car all’11° giro, terzo chiude Van Uitert.

Gara 2 parte in regime di safety car per via della pioggia e si chiude con una bandiera rossa al giro 9. Vince Schumacher. Con lui, dopo la penalizzazione di 25 secondi inflitta a Bertonelli, salgono sul podio i due piloti Jenzer Motorsport Siebert e Van Uitert.

Partenza dietro safety car anche in Gara 3, con l’americano Juan Manuel Correa (Prema Power Team) che supera il russo Yan Shlom (RB Racing), partito in pole per l’inversione dei primi 10 di Gara 2. Le condizioni incerte della pista portano a numerosi tentativi di sorpasso e qualche incidente di troppo, con la Direzione Gara costretta a esporre la bandiera rossa sancendo la vittoria di Correa davanti a Shlom e Ciantini (Jenzer Motorsport).

Con i punteggi ridotti assegnati per le gare concluse prima del completamento del 75% del totale, la classifica generale dopo il round 3 vede al comando ancora Siebert, con 148 punti, seguito da Schumacher (108) e Guzman (101). Tra i Rookie, Maini della BVM Racing scavalca Cunati.

A GREAT SHOW IN THE POURING RAIN

After missing round 2, Schumacher got off to a good start and posted the fastest lap time overall which ensured pole position in Race 2. However, the front row in Race 1 was earned by the current leader in the standings: Siebert, driving for Jenzer Motorsport.

The duel between the two resumed at the start of Race 1: Prema Power Team’s German driver climbed quickly from fourth to second place and put pressure on Siebert, with the latter doing well to parry the attacks and take victory. The positions on the track were “frozen” by the appearance of the safety car on lap 11, with Van Uitert finishing third.

Race 2 started with the safety car because of the rain and ended with a red flag on lap 9. Schumacher was awarded the victory. Following a 25 second penalty imposed on Bertonelli, Schumacher was joined on the podium by Siebert and Van Uitert, both driving for Jenzer Motorsport.

Race 3 also started behind the safety, with the American Juan Manuel Correa (Prema Power Team), overtaking the Russian Yan Shlom (RB Racing), who started on pole due to the reversal of the top 10 in Race 2. The uncertain conditions track lead to numerous overtaking manoeuvres and few incidents too many, meaning the race officials were forced to put out the red flag, thereby sanctioning victory for Correa in front of Shlom and Ciantini (Jenzer Motorsport).

With lower scores awarded for the races that ended before the three-quarter mark, the overall standings after the round 3 saw Siebert still in the lead on 148 points, followed by Schumacher (108) and Guzman (101). Among the rookies, Maini, driving for BVM Racing, managed to overtake Cunati.

DISTACCHI MINIMI, MASSIMO EQUILIBRIO

Il valore di un campionato si misura anche con il divario, in termini cronometrici, che c’è tra un pilota e l’altro: più questo è contenuto, più il livello di tutti i partecipanti è alto. Tempi sul giro molto vicini per tutti i partecipanti, infatti, indicano che i drivers sono abilissimi a trovare il limite della monoposto, che nel caso dell’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth è uguale per tutti. Il telaio è realizzato da Tatuus (codice F.4 T014), il motore è un 4 cilindri Abarth 1.4 turbo (414TF).

A Imola, il 27 maggio, nella prima sessione di qualifica, sono stati ben 23 i piloti racchiusi in un solo secondo: un risultato che assume uno spessore ancora maggiore alla luce dei quasi 5 km (4.909 metri) dell’Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Clamoroso anche il caso di Vallelunga dove, sempre in Qualifica 1, in un solo secondo di distacco erano racchiusi ben 25 piloti. Lotta serrata anche al Mugello, con 20 piloti in un secondo.

MINIMAL GAPS, MAXIMUM BALANCE

A championship’s worth is also measured by the gaps, in terms of lap times, between one drivers and another: the smaller the gap, the higher the level of all those taking part. Indeed, close lap times posted by all those taking part indicate that the drivers are extremely good at finding the limits of their single-seater, which in the case of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth is the same for everyone. The chassis is made by Tatuus (code F.4 T014), while the engine is a 4 cylinder Abarth 1.4 turbo (414TF).

During the first qualifying session at Imola on 27 May, there were 23 drivers within one second of each other: the result is of even greater significance when taking into account that the circuit at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari is nearly 5 km (4,909 metres) in length. The situation at Vallelunga, which saw 25 drivers within one second of each other in the first qualifying session, was also quite sensational. It was also a close-run thing at Mugello, with 20 drivers within one second of each other.
