TUTTO ANCORA DA DECIDERE

L’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth si presenta sul circuito di Vallelunga con una situazione ancora apertissima in tre delle quattro graduatorie di campionato (solo il Woman Trophy è già saldamente nelle mani di Fabienne Wohlwend). Sia nella classifica assoluta, sia nel Rookie Trophy, sono tanti, tra i 31 piloti presenti sul circuito non lontano da Roma, quelli che ancora possono ambire alla vittoria. A dimostrazione del grande equilibrio, i primi tempi “importanti” del weekend, ovvero quelli delle qualifiche, vedono ben 20 piloti racchiusi in meno di un secondo.

ALL STILL TO DECIDE

The Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth arrived at the Vallelunga circuit with a situation that was still wide open in three of the four championship standings (only the Woman Trophy was already firmly in the hands of Fabienne Wohlwend). Among the 31 drivers competing on the circuit near Rome, there were many who could still aspire to victory in both the overall standings and the Rookie Trophy. The first “significant” times posted on the weekend, i.e. those in the qualifying, saw 20 drivers separated by less than a second, clear proof of the equilibrium in the championship.

PIOGGIA E GOMME PROTAGONISTE

Dal grande equilibrio che regna nelle qualifiche emerge il rookie Juri Vips, autore del miglior tempo in entrambe le sessioni e, dunque, pronto a scattare dalla pole sia in Gara 1, sia in Gara 2. Accanto a lui, in entrambe le occasioni, partirà il suo compagno nel Prema Power Team Mick Schumacher.

La pioggia inizia a farsi sentire sul serio all’avvio di Gara 1, portando la Direzione Gara a decidere per una partenza dietro Safety Car. Ma, come spesso succede con queste condizioni, sono le gomme a risultare decisive: Guzman (partito terzo) e il suo compagno della DR Formula optano per le rain e nell’arco di tre giri sono già davanti a tutti lanciati verso la vittoria. Alle loro spalle, Schumacher, terzo al traguardo, guida il terzetto del Prema Power Team completato da Vips e Correa.

Schumacher è anche l’indiscusso protagonista di Gara 2: Vips, in pole, ha un avvio lento, il tedesco lo sorpassa subito e si invola verso la vittoria, per nulla disturbato dal nuovo ingresso della Safety Car al giro tre. I due piloti del Prema Power Team chiudono ai primi due posti, precedendo il portacolori del Diegi Motorsport Giuliano Raucci.

Il movimentato weekend di Vallelunga riserva una sorpresa anche all’avvio di Gara 3, con Guzman che rimane fermo in griglia innescando una serie di incidenti e costringendo a un nuovo ingresso la Safety Car. Una volta liberata la pista è Correa a “scappare” verso la vittoria, mentre dietro di lui infuria la bagarre: il più attivo è Schumacher, che supera subito Vips (alla fine 14°, a causa di un errore) e chiude secondo. Terzo l’indiano del BVM Racing Kush Maini.

RAIN AND TYRES TAKE CENTRE STAGE

Rookie Juri Vips, who posted the fastest times in both sessions and, therefore, would start in pole position in both Race 1 and Race 2, emerged from the substantial equilibrium that prevailed in qualifying. On both occasions, his teammate in the Prema Power Team Mick Schumacher would start by his side.

The rain began to fall in earnest at the start of Race 1, leading the race officials to decide to start the race behind the Safety Car. As often it happens in these conditions, tyres prove decisive: Guzman (who started in third) and his DR Formula team-mate opted for wet tyres and after three laps were already ahead of the rest and romping to victory. Schumacher was behind them and finished third, leading the trio of Prema Power Team drivers that included Vips and Correa.

Schumacher was also the undisputed star of Race 2: Vips, on pole, got off to a slow start, the German overtook him immediately and raced to victory, unperturbed by the appearance of the Safety Car once more on lap three. The two Prema Power Team drivers took the top two places, ahead of Diegi Motorsport’s number one driver, Giuliano Raucci.

A lively weekend at Vallelunga also had a surprise in store at the start of Race 3, with Guzman remaining stationary on the grid, triggering a series of accidents and forcing the Safety Car to appear yet again. Once the circuit had been cleared, Correa flew to victory, while a brawl raged behind him: the busiest driver was Schumacher, who immediately overtook Vips (who eventually finished 14th, due to a mistake) and crossed the line in second. BVM Racing’s Indian driver, Kush Maini, finished third.

ROOKIE E WOMAN TROPHY, I GIUSTI RICONOSCIMENTI

Uno dei punti di forza dell’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth è la capacità di tenere viva la lotta tra tutti i partecipanti. Oltre alla graduatoria assoluta e a quella per i team, infatti, il promoter del campionato ha istituito anche le classifiche riservate ai debuttanti e alle donne. Ciascuna prevede una propria premiazione al termine di ogni gara, con tanto di trofeo consegnato durante la cerimonia del podio. Il Rookie Trophy, in particolare, durante la stagione 2016 è risultato particolarmente combattuto. In cima alla classifica si sono alternati tre diversi piloti (un italiano, un indiano e un estone) e, all’appuntamento finale in programma a Monza, erano ancora cinque i nomi in corsa per la vittoria finale. Ma i debuttanti hanno anche dimostrato di sapersi tenere dietro tutti, visto che in due occasioni uno di loro ha tagliato il traguardo come primo assoluto.

ROOKIE AND WOMAN TROPHY, THE RIGHT RECOGNITION

One of the strengths of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth is the ability to keep the real contest between all participants alive. In fact, in addition to the absolute ranking and the one for the team, the championship promoter has also set up rankings reserved for rookies and women. Each has its own award ceremony at the end of each race, with a trophy awarded during the podium ceremony. The Rookie Trophy, in particular, was very hard fought during the 2016 season. Three different riders (an Italian, Indian and Estonia) took turns at the top of the rankings, and in the final event in Monza, there were five other names in the running for the final victory. But the novices also proved they were able keep up with everyone, given that on two occasions one of them crossed the finish line clearly in first place.
