Studies of a Harmonica 2019 In-Class, Individual Project Course - Princeton ArcPrep Faculty - Katie Zaeh I chose to draw a Harmonica. A harmonica is a complex instrument that has a lot of features to it that create its sound. I drew three different sized reeds. I think the reeds are the most important part of the instrument because it causes the vibrations that begin the soundwaves. Reeds of a Harmonica, 2019, 15 in x 21 in, Graphite On Vellum

Soundscapes 2019 In-Class, Individual Project Course - Princeton ArcPrep Faculty - Katie Zaeh In this project I decided to choose my favorite lyrics from the song Apricot Princess. I decided to make a soundwave visual of it. I tried to put as much detail in it to match the song and the artist in general. The pitch and volume of the song affected the different levels of this model.

Listening Booth 2019 In-Class, Individual Project Course - Princeton ArcPrep Faculty - Katie Zaeh I brainstormed and created premilinary sketches of listening booths using my soundscape model as inspiration. I decided to add features and improve them as I went along. This listening booth has a garden as a first level and you have the option to change in the bathroom and go upstairs to the pool where you can go for a swim. There is a DJ who plays music fro you to listen to while swimming.

Building Love Letter 2019 In-Class, Group Project Course - Princeton ArcPrep Faculty - Katie Zaeh I decided to write a love letter to The Cardboard Cathedral by Shigeru Ban. The pattern I cut on the front of the card was based on the most interesting design of the building - the stained glass windows. Another reason this building caught my eye was because of what it symbolized; this was a temporarly building built after an earthquake. Building Love Letter, 2019, 5.5 in x 1/8 in x 4-1/8 in, Paper

Hard Hat 2019 In Class, Individual Project This hard hat was meant to show a story that changed the way I looked at things. The colors represent my grandpa’s car who I love. The wings are a dove’s wings which I interpret as a blessing. The bird on the side is the national bird of Guatemala, where i’m from.

Invisible Cities 2019 Independent, Individual Project I read Italo Calvino’s book, Invisible Cities, which describes the city Sophronia, which has two sides to it. I tried my best to recreate the city as described in the text. I decided to sketch it and then draw it on the final paper. I wanted to emphazise the fun and boring sides of the city.

Bandshell Design 2019 In-Class, Individual Project Course - Princeton ArcPrep Faculty - Katie Zaeh In this activity I designed a bandshell for Trenton. I decided to make a unique bandshell design from which people can have amazing views. I added a programme to it where you can roam around and try to catch different insects. The programme can help the environment and improve the views from the top of the bandshell. Site Plan, 2019, 9 in x 12 in, Graphite on Vellum
