El Parque Natural de Corralejo, en el municipio de La Oliva, en Fuerteventura, con 2,5 kilómetros de ancho y más de 10 de largo, es uno de esos lugares donde la belleza desértica frente al océano se hace más grande. Aquí, el viento atlántico es un invisible protagonista que siempre ha marcado el carácter de este magnífico arenal blanco. Por eso se celebra cada año el Festival Internacional de Cometas, y ya van 36 ediciones. Desde 1987, miles de aficionados a este evento llegan hasta la isla canaria para crear una fantasía de originales objetos voladores sobre las dunas más grandes de todo el archipiélago. Del 6 al 12 de noviembre el cielo se llenará de color y los asistentes podrán, a su vez, descubrir este bello lugar con vistas al Parque Natural del Islote de Lobos.

Siglos después, la escritora irlandesa Maggie O’Farrell contó esta historia en un bestseller que también ha llegado a las tablas. El Garrick Theatre de Londres estrena esta adaptación, dirigida por Erica Whyman, directora artística de la Royal Shakespeare Company, en la que se narra la historia de amor entre el autor y su mujer Agnes Hathaway y el terrible duelo de toda la familia por la pérdida del hijo. Artenara, a 1.270 metros de altitud, es uno de los municipios más mágicos de la isla. Este pueblo de montaña deslumbra por sus paisajes únicos y su cultura aborigen profundamente arraigada. La veneración por los espacios sagrados de montaña y las condiciones óptimas de la roca volcánica han servido para desarrollar la mayor población de Gran Canaria que habita en casas cuevas, gracias a la perdurabilidad de su construcción y su temperatura constante durante todo el año. En este enclave montañoso se conservan muchos espacios sagrados que nos hacen mirar al pasado y entender el paisaje de una forma mítica y mágica. El 7 de julio de 2019, la Unesco incluyó en la lista del Patrimonio Mundial al Paisaje Cultural de Risco Caído y las Montañas Sagradas de Gran Canaria, en el que destacan los monolitos naturales del Roque Nublo, el Roque Bentayga o la Cueva Calendario Astronómico de Risco Caído. Y en 2005, la Unesco declaró la parte sur occidental de Gran Canaria como Reserva de la Biosfera, en la cual se incluye Artenara. Además, su cielo libre de contaminación lumínica aporta uno de los mejores miradores de la isla para observar el cielo nocturno, afianzándose así también como Destino Turístico Starlight.

On 7th July 2019, Unesco included the Cultural Landscape of Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria on the World Heritage List, which includes the natural monoliths of Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga and the Astronomical Calendar Cave of Risco Caído. And in 2005, Unesco declared the south-western part of Gran Canaria, which includes Artenara, a Biosphere Reserve. Furthermore, the skies here, free from light pollution, provides one of the best viewpoints on the island for observing the night sky, turning it into a Starlight Tourist Destination.

ENG In the Sant Martí de Provençals neighbourhood (Barcelona), there’s a place where you can enjoy books, the latest architecture and even the company of local residents. We’re talking about the Gabriel García Márquez Library, winner of the international award for Best New Public Library in 2023. Opened just a year ago, the building is the work of the Suma Arquitectura studio. It’s built on a platform to a design that evokes stacks of books and the interior hinges around a central staircase. The library is a model of sustainability, with natural light flooding the rooms and views of the vegetation outside. Here you can read sitting in armchairs, in hanging chairs, on wooden terraces... Plus, the library has its own radio station, Radio Macondo (the fictional town in which some of García Márquez’s novels were set).

Un lugar donde comprobar “el equilibro con el mundo payés que hay en L’Empordà”. Y si se trata de referirse a “un hotel del que te enamoras”, nada como el Habana Riviera by Iberostar en Cuba. Mariscal reconoce que “en Madrid se han puesto la pila y hay hoteles que están muy 3 bien”, como el NH Collection Madrid Suecia. Su recorrido termina, claro, en “uno que diseñé”, el Gran Hotel Domine, donde “hay unos desayunos 4 maravillosos”.

“More than the decoration, it’s the people who run it that count”, says the designer: “Hostal Spa Empúries is wonderful”. A place where you can see “the balance with the rural world that you get in L’Empordà”. And if it’s a question of describing “a hotel you fall in love with”, there’s nothing like the Habana Riviera by Iberostar in Cuba. Mariscal acknowledges that “in Madrid, there are some extremely good hotels”, such as the NH Collection Madrid Suecia. His tour ends at “one that I designed”, the Gran Hotel Domine, where “there are wonderful breakfasts”.
Cómics, diseño gráfico, muebles, cerámica, escultura, arte, cine (al que ahora regresa con la película de animación Dispararon al pianista, que dirige junto con Fernando Trueba)… Son muchas las posibilidades a las que recurre Javier Mariscal (Valencia, 1950) para expresar su talento creativo. Y los registros parecen multiplicarse cuando se trata de trasladarlo al diseño de un hotel. “Tienes un abanico bestial, y es algo muy bonito”, precisa. Un reto que llevó a cabo, en colaboración con el diseñador Fernando Salas en el Gran Hotel Domine de Bilbao y en la planta 11 del madrileño Hotel Puerta América. Acostumbrado a pasearse por medio mundo, se siente en casa en California y en Tokio. Y si debe elegir una palabra que resuma la experiencia que debe ofrecer un hotel, este “diseñador global” (son palabras suyas) lo tiene claro: “Tiene que ser acogedor. Todos buscamos cariño, y gracias a eso, funciona el mundo”.
ENG Comics, graphic design, furniture, ceramics, sculpture, art, cinema (which he’s now returning to with the animated film They Shot the Piano Player, co-directed with Fernando Trueba)... It seems the ways for Javier Mariscal (Valencia, 1950) to express his creative talents just go on and on, and even more so when it comes to transferring these talents to designing hotels. “You have a tremendous range, and it’s a very nice thing to do”, he says. A challenge that he collaborated on with the designer Fernando Salas at the Gran Hotel Domine in Bilbao, and on the 11th floor of the Hotel Puerta América in Madrid. Accustomed to being a globe trotter, he feels at home in California and Tokyo. And if he had to choose a word that sums up the experience a hotel should provide, this “global designer” (his own words) is clear: “It has to be cosy. We’re all looking for warmth and affection, and that’s what makes the world go around.

A las seis de la mañana, Cristina Boscá (Valencia, 1982) y Dani Moreno El gallo (Badalona, 1972) comienzan a despertar a los oyentes de Anda Ya!, en LOS40, un programa que lleva la música por bandera y con el que desean “que los oyentes se lo pasen bien”, asegura Dani. ¿El secreto para conseguirlo? “Despertarse con muy buen humor”, apostilla Cristina. ¿A qué hora se levantan? Cristina Boscá (C. B.): Hubo una etapa en la que me levantaba a las cuatro de la mañana. Así que ahora siento como un regalo poder ponerme la alarma a las 5:30. Dani Moreno (D. M.): A las 5:05. No me cuesta levantarme temprano, porque siempre pasa algo increíble, único y a veces... ¡Épico! ¡La radio está viva! ¿Cuál ha sido su despertar más recordado? ¿Por qué? C. B. What has been your most memorable wake-up call, and why? C. B. I remember one day I woke up without the alarm feeling extremely well rested. I soon started to panic: my alarm hadn’t gone off and I’d overslept! D. M. That’s my recurring dream! [laughs]. When travelling by plane, do you prefer window or aisle? C. B. Window. I love feeling small when I can see the magic of flying and the vastness of the planet. D. M. If possible, a window too. Though I fall asleep in two minutes and sometimes wake up on landing - I really enjoy flying! Any tips on how to make the journey shorter? C. B. By listening to the Anda Ya! podcasts. D. M. I have music on my headphones, and I like to take advantage of the trip to mentally sort out everything I must do over the next few days. Do you have any particularly memorable plane trips? C. B. The ones the whole team took to the LOS40 Music Awards nominees dinner in Ibiza or Mallorca. D. M. I’ve met celebrities. Some of them are pretty different when they’re up close, there’s no getting away from it...

The powerful spectacle of the cliffs rising from the sea opposite the Port of Agaete contrasts with the slow pace of life among the white and blue fishermen’s houses. Of course there are things to do here: you can visit the coffee plantation surrounded by centuries-old pine forests or walk one of the trails along the cliffs of the Tamadaba Natural Park. But what the body really needs is to sit in Puerto de las Nieves contemplating what’s left of the Finger of God rock while a freshly caught fish is browned on the grill.

Durante siglos, los peregrinos atravesaban un paisaje de bosques de laurisilva, tierras rojas de labranza y barrancos frondosos hasta Teror para confiar a la Virgen del Pino (patrona de la isla) sus deseos y temores. From the viewpoint in Plaza de San Roque you can see, as if in miniature, the bay of Las Palmas, the Montaña de Arucas, the town of Moya, the Isleta and even Tenerife and Fuerteventura. But the best show is in the town, with its unique streets decorated with painted tiles and a waterfall that runs right through the centre carrying mineral waters that have been famous for centuries. Everything here emerges from the rocks, like the famous watercress that gives the local stew its name.

The earthy and white coloured square houses in Agüimes climb up the hillside until they reach the monumental church of San Sebastián, a Neoclassical symbol of the religious power wielded by a town that was the episcopal seat in times of the Catholic Monarchs. Its four hundred year-old history is completed by the aboriginal villages of Temisas and Guayadeque. This last troglodyte village is set in a deep ravine that splits the island in two and is a listed Natural Monument.

The two long promenades offer jaw-dropping sunsets and lead to beaches where you can paddle surf (Las Marañuelas) or bathe in a natural pool (Las Lajillas).

Decía el empresario Adriano Olivetti (1901-1960) que “la fábrica pide mucho a sus empleados y, por tanto, tiene el deber de devolverles mucho”. El italiano dedicó su vida a que su famosa empresa familiar de calculadoras y máquinas de escribir fuera un ejemplo de gestión no solo en lo económico, también en lo social y en lo arquitectónico. En las afueras de Ivrea, en el norte de Italia, a hora y media de Milán, creó una de las ciudades industriales más completas del mundo que la Unesco declaró Patrimonio de la Humanidad hace ahora cinco años. La Ciudad Olivetti, ideada por dos grandes arquitectos y urbanistas del momento Gino Pollini a Eduardo Vittoria entre 1930 y 1960, era un complejo de 27 edificios que incluía residencias, museos, guarderías, edificios de viviendas de no más de cuatro alturas y zonas verdes. Pero tras la belleza del hormigón, estaba también la creación de un movimiento social y político a favor de las clases trabajadoras. “Es un prototipo de ciudad del siglo XX, un experimento de proyecto socio-cultural, más allá de lo industrial, donde los arquitectos y urbanistas trabajaron el concepto de comunidad, de unión entre ciudadanos y ámbito laboral”, explica Fabio Sedia (Palermo, 1976), arquitecto del Ministerio de Cultura de Italia (MIC). Adriano aprovechó su éxito empresarial para lanzar un partido político, Movimento Comunità, que luchaba por un modelo económico más igualitario entre trabajadores y empresarios, y utilizó la Ciudad Olivetti para aplicar unos preceptos que buscaban que los beneficios de una empresa se reportaran en el mismo entorno. Así, mientras la ciudad crecía, los trabajadores también mejoraban sus vidas, con más recursos y servicios dentro de esa comunidad: seguridad social, educación, guardería e, incluso, una revista. “Él creó una comunidad abierta y dialogante que definía un camino de crecimiento cultural, social y personal que desplazaba el interés de la empresa hacia el hombre”, añade Sedia. La idea de que la Ciudad Olivetti fue quizá la urbe perfecta del siglo XX aún sigue debatiéndose hoy día. “Podemos considerarla perfecta en un sentido, el de poseer una calidad insuperable de intenciones éticas, sociales y

The Italian dedicated his life to making his famous family business, manufacturing calculators and typewriters, an example of management not only in economic, but also in social and architectural terms. On the outskirts of Ivrea in northern Italy, an hour and a half from Milan, he created one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial cities, which UNESCO declared a World Heritage Site five years ago. The Olivetti City, designed between 1930 and 1960 by two great architects and urban planners of the time, Gino Pollini, and Eduardo Vittoria, was a complex of 27 buildings including residences, museums, kindergartens, residential buildings of no more than four storeys and green areas. But behind the beauty of the concrete was also the creation of a social and political movement in favour of the working classes. “It is a prototype of a 20th century city, an experiment in a socio-cultural project, beyond the industrial, where architects and urban planners worked on the concept of community, of union between citizens and the working environment,” explains Fabio Sedia (Palermo, 1976), architect at the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC).

Adriano took advantage of his business success to launch a political party, Movimento Comunità, which fought for a more egalitarian economic model between workers and business owners, and used the Olivetti City to set principles that sought to ensure that a company’s profits were generated in the same environment. So, as the city grew, the lives of workers also improved, with more resources and services within that community: social security, education, childcare and even a magazine. “He created an open and interactive community, defining a path of cultural, social and personal growth that shifted the focus from company to people,” adds Sedia.

The notion that Olivetti City was the perfect 20th century city is still being debated today. “We can consider it perfect in one sense, that of possessing an unsurpassed quality of ethical, social and moral intentions that allowed for the development of a more equitable and caring society - of a community,” Sedia adds. Over time the buildings were abandoned, including the striking Palazzo Uffizi by architects Annibale Fiocchi, Marcello Nizzoli and Gian Antonio Bernasconi, built in a hexagonal shape as a meeting place that could accommodate 2,000 people. Today, its helixshaped staircase, the jewel of the complex, is still considered one of the most notable examples of how to improve communication between employees.

Fiel a su compromiso con el medioambiente, Air Europa reunió a un grupo de voluntarios de la aerolínea con el objetivo de sumarse a la iniciativa global World Cleanup Day, un proyecto que lleva a cabo actividades orientadas a lograr un mundo más limpio y sostenible. Con el apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Llucmajor (Mallorca), la compañía organizó una jornada de limpieza en la playa de Cala Pi, donde se recogieron 80 kilos de desperdicios. En línea con esta acción, Air Europa ha puesto en marcha el programa Vuelo 2030, que reúne cerca de 50 proyectos de sostenibilidad activos.

Air Europa has had an agreement with DISFAM for more than a year now, whereby those holding a DEA passport (Specific Learning Difficulties) are exempt from paying a possible penalty if they are forced to change their reservation due to having made a mistake during the purchasing process.
True to its environmental commitment, Air Europa brought together a group of airline volunteers to join the global initiative World Cleanup Day, a project that involves millions of people around the world in carrying out activities aimed at achieving a cleaner and more sustainable world. With the support of the Llucmajor Town Council (Mallorca), which provided collection materials, the company organised a clean-up day at the emblematic Cala Pi beach, where 80 kilos of waste were collected. In line with this initiative, Air Europa has recently launched the Vuelo 2030 programme, which brings together around fifty active sustainability projects.

La iniciativa permitió trasladar a la zona miles de barritas de comida, donadas por el proveedor de servicios de aprovisionamiento de Air Europa, Gate Gourmet; así como 40.000 neceseres con objetos de higiene personal, de cuya distribución se encargó el personal sobre el terreno de la Fundación. 50

Air Europa joined the international mobilisation in solidarity with the victims and those affected by the earthquake in Morocco on the 8th of September. The airline, joining the efforts to send urgent aid to the affected areas, lent its support to the Othman Ktiri Foundation by sending food and necessities. The initiative enabled thousands of food bars to be sent to the area, donated by Air Europa's catering services provider, Gate Gourmet, as well as 40,000 toiletry bags containing personal hygiene items, which were distributed by the Foundation's field staff.

En la gala de entrega de premios de esta competición amistosa, celebrada el pasado 4 de octubre, la aerolínea fue reconocida con el galardón global Menores Emisiones de CO2 para Operaciones en Tierra, que visibiliza el esfuerzo de la compañía para lograr una actividad más sostenible en este tipo de actividad. Asimismo, recogió el premio Menores Emisiones de CO2 en Corto Radio, con el que se ponía en valor la capacidad de la compañía para optimizar su actividad con el objetivo de reducir al máximo las emisiones contaminantes. En esta edición del reto de SkyTeam, en el que han competido 22 aerolíneas en un total de 33 categorías, Air Europa participó con su vuelo más sostenible del año, conectando Madrid y Ámsterdam en un recorrido de ida y vuelta a bordo de un Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Para demostrar la posibilidad de avanzar hacia un sector más sostenible, la compañía optimizó cada aspecto de la organización y ejecución del trayecto, desde el uso de combustible sostenible SAF hasta la selección de la tripulación, para propiciar su cercanía al aeropuerto para disminuir las emisiones. Cabe destacar la importancia del galardón global por la excelencia de las operaciones en tierra, donde la aportación de Groundforce, la compañía de handling del Grupo Globalia, resultó fundamental. SkyTeam ha destacado que buena parte de los vehículos empleados fueran eléctricos, incluidos los utilizados para el arrastre del avión, contribuyendo de forma decisiva a lograr el menor porcentaje de emisiones de CO2 por pasajero de todos los participantes. At the friendly competition’s awards gala, held on the 4th of October, the airline received the global award for Lower CO2 Emissions for Ground Operations, highlighting efforts made by the company to achieve more sustainable activity in this type of operation. It also received the Lowest CO2 Emissions in Short-Range Operations award, demonstrating the company's capacity to optimise activity with the aim of reducing polluting emissions as much as possible. In this year's SkyTeam challenge, in which 22 airlines competed in a total of 33 categories, Air Europa participated with its most sustainable flight of the year, connecting Madrid and Amsterdam on a round-trip flight aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. To demonstrate the possibility of moving towards a more sustainable industry, the airline optimised every aspect of the organisation and execution of the journey, from the use of sustainable SAF fuel to the selection of the crew, to promote its proximity to the airport and reduce emissions. It is worth highlighting the importance of the global award for excellence in ground operations, where the contribution of Groundforce, the handling company of the Globalia Group, was fundamental. SkyTeam has highlighted the fact that part of the vehicles used were electric, including those used for towing the aircraft, making a decisive contribution to achieving the lowest percentage of CO2 emissions per passenger of all the participants. The Sustainable Flight Challenge is a unique initiative in the sector that seeks to contribute to the acceleration of innovation and change in the commercial aviation industry, minimising the impact on the environment through best practices that can be implemented by any airline.
