The Città metropolitana is a local entity representing 134 towns and municipalities, among which is Milan; it administere the vastest metropolitan area in Italy, and is situated in one of the most densely inhabited areas in Europe, with population density of 2000 inhabitants per sq. km, ten times higher than the national average.
