CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Dear Members, It has been almost one year since our last AGM and the election of a new GC. Hard to believe that we are now almost half way through our two-year term. The upcoming AGM has a couple of items that follow up on previous General Meetings that will require your approval. The first is the plan to upgrade the RBSC Polo Club approved in principle by Members at the 2014 AGM. There has been much talk both at GC level and also around the Polo Club about the various requirements needed and much of this talk has centred on the parking needs both now and for the future. A close study of the actual number of cars parked shows that apart from an hour or two a day at peak times there is mostly sufficient parking within the Club and whenever we reach capacity the overflow facility we currently rent from the CPB is quite capable of handling the requirements. That is not to say that at some time in the future our needs may change but for now the GC is proposing that the upgrade plans for the Polo Club do not necessitate the need to disrupt the various sporting sections by including a major new parking facility. What is included is an expanded fitness area, multi-purpose facility and additional changing rooms whilst retaining parking on the ground floor plus other needed renovations. The total budget is just a little over that outlined in 2014 and full details will be sent to Members ahead of the AGM. Also on the agenda is a matter that was deferred this time from the 2015 AGM. Those of us at that meeting will recall that Members asked that a motion to increase subscription rates be deferred to a future Meeting with a clearer rationale to explain the reasons behind the proposed increases. Our Finance and Admin sub-committee has worked hard to come up with new suggestions. The new proposed increases are far more modest than last year and there is a detailed explanation to explain why the increases are in the Clubs’ and Members’ best interest. We will also be asking Members to vote to allow the GC in future years to increase subscription fees on an annual basis but at no greater cost to Members than 3%. What we have not been able
RBSC MAGAZINE
to do yet is to fully address the ongoing twotier subscription rate system introduced many years back. This is partly because we are waiting for the results of the Club survey on the question of gender parity. However we are proposing that Members between the ages of 65 and 72 be brought into parity and this means that for some there is the good news of a possible reduction of subscription rates. (Expect an even heavier turnout than usual of those in that age group at the AGM!) The two survey questions have generated an enormous amount of interest (and questions) on both of the topics being surveyed. The cut-off date was at the end of September but at the time of writing close on 3,000 responses have been received. And from what I am told there is an overwhelming positive response on both issues. Once the response have been properly tallied, we will be making available a complete breakdown of the results, membership category by membership category. More later on the subject of land acquisition and gender parity. Finally, those with young kids do please bring them to enjoy the special Halloween dinner and party at the Winning Post on Monday, 31st October 2016.There will all of the typical Halloween fun games with lots of entertainment and prizes for best costumes. Definitely an enjoyable time for all and a chance for your kids to dress up and have fun with friends. For adults there is the Bavarian Oktoberfest party at the Henri Dunant Hall on Thursday, 13rd October 2016 to look forward to.

GM’S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Members, The RBSC reached another milestone in early September as we celebrated the Club’s 115th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, Members and staff gathered first at the Spirit House in the corner of the sports field to make offerings and say prayers. Following the ceremonies, we regathered at the Committee Box to receive the blessings of Buddhist monks and to make donations. Another important date for your diaries – the RBSC has announced the schedule of this year’s Annual General Meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, 26th October 2016 at 6pm at the Henri Dunant Hall in the RSC Building. We cordially invite and encourage all Honorary and Ordinary Members to attend and participate.
In cooperation with the Thai Red Cross Society, the Club will host the last blood donation of the year on Friday, 28th October 2016 at the Henri Dunant Hall. Numbers have been down at the last couple of blood donations so we hope for a strong turnout for this charitable initiative. Once again, we apologize for the disruption caused by the recent closure of the Golf House. Management is committed to minimizing the impact of the closure and hopes that in the meantime Members and their guests can settle into the alternative temporary arrangements and facilities. Your cooperation and understanding is gratefully appreciated.

OUT OF AFRICA – SAFARIS AROUND THE WORLD For many, an African safari represents the ultimate travel experience. Once the dominion of colonial explorers and hunters, today, Africa’s vast savannas are as likely to be the backdrop for luxurious eco-lodges as they are migrating wildebeest.

The West’s fascination with Africa has been documented time and again in films and literature – from the malevolent wilderness of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness to the romanticized Kenya of Karen Blixen’s Out of Africa. And while the continent is no longer quite the undiscovered frontier it once was, travellers are still drawn to its beautiful landscapes and spellbound by the creatures that call them home. While Africa’s savannas might offer the quintessential safari experience, safaris aren’t exclusive to Africa. There are many parts of the world where the wildlife is just as captivating and the ecosystems just as rich. The jungles of Borneo, for instance, are home to Asian elephants, proboscis monkeys and orangutans, while Australia’s endemic species are some of the most unique in the world. For travellers with an adventurous spirit and the desire to witness the planet’s most diverse and precious ecosystems first-hand, here are some unbeatable worldwide safari destinations.
AFRICA – THE BIG FIVE When hunters coined the phrase ‘big five’, they were referring to lions, African elephants, leopards, buffalo and rhinoceros – the animals most dangerous to hunt on foot. While most modern safari-goers are armed with nothing more lethal than a DSLR and telephoto lens, these creatures are still popular targets of an African adventure; the success of a safari often gauged by how many big-five sightings occur. The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and adjacent Serengeti in Tanzania are the best places to observe African wildlife in action. These sprawling tracts of land set the scene for the annual migration of millions of wildebeest, as well as zebra and Thomson’s gazelle. So much prey in turn attracts big cats and other predators like hyenas and cheetahs, while crocodiles wait in the rivers. Kruger National Park in South Africa is also abundant in wildlife. One of the largest game parks in Africa, it is home to more species of mammal than any other reserve on the continent. Elephants are present in the thousands, and in addition to the big five, travellers can spy endangered African Wild Dogs, cheetahs, hippos, giraffes and zebras. GETTING THERE: Transfer from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro Airport or
Arusha Airport. From here, it’s an eight-hour land transfer to the park or short trip via small aircraft to the Serengeti’s Kirawira Airstrip. WHERE TO STAY:
* Bilila Lodge Kempinski – stylish five-star property with views of the Serengeti plains. * Protea Kruger Gate, Kruger Park – suites and chalets set around a ‘Tree House’ where guests can sleep beneath the stars.

BORNEO – ORANGUTANS AND ECO-TREKS No visit to Borneo would be complete without a few encounters with its most famous inhabitant – the orangutan. Sanctuaries can be found right across the island, the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center in Sabah the most prolific. This sanctuary comprises 4,300 hectares of rainforest and visitors can observe the endangered primates via raised walkways or take a five-kilometre trek through the mangroves of Sepilok Reserve. Another highlight of Borneo is Mount Kinabalu. This UNESCO heritage site has more than 100 mammal and 4,500 plant species and is a great place to conduct a Borneo safari. Kinabalu’s summit can be reached in a two-day hike and sunrise views from the peak are breathtaking. Fauna includes deer, leopard cats, orangutans, otters and weasels, with hundreds of species of butterflies and birds brightening up the rainforest canopy. GETTING THERE: Fly to Kuala
Lumpur then transfer to Kota Kinabalu. Tours and land transfers across Sabah can be arranged from the city centre.

WHERE TO STAY:
* Hyatt Regency Kinabalu Hotel – comfortable business-class hotel in the city. * Gayana Eco Resort – luxurious modern island resort on Pangkor Island, a short boat trip from the mainland.
INDIA – ON THE TRAIL OF THE TIGER Africa might have the traditional ‘big five’ but India is home to the tiger. It also boasts Indian elephants, Asiatic lions, Indian rhinoceros, bears and several sub-species of endangered leopards – more than enough wildlife to keep safari-goers glued to their viewfinders. The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is the perfect place to launch an Indian safari, home to the world’s only remaining Asiatic lions, as well as leopards, antelope, deer, wild boar, hyenas, crocodiles and 250 different species of birds. Kanha National Park in the centre of India is also rich with flora and fauna. The park’s lush forests inspired Rudyard
Kipling’s Jungle Book and many endangered species call it home, including the swamp deer, the Bengal tiger and a variety of leopards. Tigers can be tracked by guided 4WD or by elephant-back. GETTING THERE: From Dehli, fly to
Ahmedabad, 390km from Gir National Park, or from Mumbai to Diu, at a distance of 110km. For Kanha National Park, fly from Delhi to Nagpur (also the geographical centre of India), then drive the remaining 280km. WHERE TO STAY:
* Lion Safari Camp, Sasan Gir – 20 luxury tents surrounded by mango trees. * Royal Tiger Resort, Kanha National Park – rustic lodge-style accommodation within Kanha National Park.
AMAZON – RIVER & JUNGLE The rainforests of the Amazon basin are unrivaled in size and home to millions of plant and animal species. Safaris can traverse both jungle and river, and can include visits to research
43
centres, adventures down the Amazon in dug-out canoes, treks through dense rainforest and home-stays in local villages.
* Juma Lake Inn – rustic, eco-friendly over-water accommodation.
Wildlife to spot in this part of the world includes toucans and macaws, piranhas, sloths, pink dolphins, monkeys (the howler monkey in particular), anacondas, pumas and jaguars. Juma Lake is one area where human development is minimal and travellers can trek, meet locals, canoe, fish, and at night, stargaze.
AUSTRALIA – OUTBACK ADVENTURES
Mamori Lake is also a popular entry-level Amazonian safari spot. A hundred kilometres from Manaus, tour operators here offer jungle treks, crocodile and piranha spotting, bird-watching and cultural exchanges with local villagers. GETTING THERE: Fly to Sao Paulo or
Rio de Janeiro, then take a four-hour domestic flight to Manaus, on the Rio Negro. From Manaus, launch a river safari into the Amazon with one of the many tour operators based there. WHERE TO STAY:
* Tropical Manaus – large luxury hotel in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.
Due to the country’s size, an Australian safari should focus on a specific area. Any trip through the Australian outback is guaranteed to include multiple sightings of wildlife, so travellers should make their decisions based upon what sort of geographical area they want to explore and what time of year they plan to visit. In the ‘Red Center’ of Australia lies Uluru (Ayers Rock). The national parkland surrounding this immense sandstone monolith is home to wallabies, dingoes, possums, emus, goannas and red kangaroos, the landscapes dry and sparsely vegetated. The best time of year to visit is in the cooler, dryer months of April/May and September/October. Kakadu National Park, by contrast, is an area of lush rainforests, mangroves, rivers and waterfalls. There are more than 60 species of mammal here including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and dingoes, plus 33 species of
endangered animals. The best time of year to visit is in the dry season, from May to September, with waterfalls at their most beautiful closer to May and wildlife most abundant towards September. Visitors must be especially wary of crocodiles. GETTING THERE: Fly to Darwin for Kakadu National Park, then drive the remaining 171km in a 4WD. For Uluru, flights can be booked from any major Australian city to Alice Springs where 4WD tours can be booked. WHERE TO STAY:
* Longitude 131 – Fifteen boutique tents at the border of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. * Bamurru Plains – Nine luxury safaris suites a three-hour drive from Darwin.

ARCHITECTURAL GOODNESS CREATING A HOME FOR HEALTH, WEALTH & HAPPINESS For thousands of years, Chinese emperors, royalty, and nobility tapped into the mysterious world of Feng Shui to ensure everything they built and every action they took was properly aligned to this ancient art. Once the preserve of the titled and powerful, today Feng Shui teachings are available to anyone who wants to explore a world of numbers, signs, and objects. From the visible to the invisible, the tangible to the intangible, Feng Shui allows a person to harness a power that surrounds us all if they have the right keys.

As one of only of three “Black Hat Taoist” practitioners in the world, Varathanat ‘Master Ma’ Assakulkovit has spent his life exploring every facet of Feng Shui from orienting buildings, dwellings, and other structures to studying and collecting a huge array of gemstones. With this wealth of experience, Master Ma recently allowed RBSC Magazine exclusive access to his latest development; Flying Dragon Mansion. Stephen L. Field, an authority on early Chinese cosmology as it pertains to the ancient art of Feng Shui wrote in his book The Zangshu, “Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water” and so Master Ma’s Flying Dragon Mansion features a stunning five-element waterfall, man-made lake with auspicious sculptures, and illuminated tress to capture Qi that flows freely through the universe. The natural environment around Flying Dragon Mansion has been disturbed as little as possible during the construction stage with huge trees left in place and indigenous plant and animal life encouraged to grow and breed. Master Ma’s team of talented architects and engineers have built

various Feng Shui structures across the vast estate that have been strategically placed to attract Qi to his property. In fact, the scene after dark when the trees, waterfall, structures, and lake are illuminated is indeed visually stunning. Parts of the southwestern edge of the Khorat Plateau encircle Master Ma’s property creating a natural bowl that draws in energy. With his extensive knowledge of aligning buildings, Master Ma has been able to channel energy to his property by installing a series of structures that use water to retain Qi. The aptly named Five-Element Waterfall is one such structure that contains gemstones, Buddhist effigies, and other items, to capture Qi. As with the ever-expanding universe, Feng Shui never stops moving and everything is constantly changing. What people have to do is take good care of energy and try to control it using objects that attract the key element, Qi. Another important factor is colour and having the five element colours represented is important. Yellow is earth, silver is metal, blue is water, green is wood, and red is fire.

BILLION DOLLAR ECO-ISLAND
THE GIANT GREEN PEBBLE
3D DOODLES
New York City-based Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) has beaten nine other firms in an international competition for the South Sea Pearl Eco-Island – a man-made tourism hub planned for China’s Haikou Bay. Funded by Chinese developer HNA Group, the crescent-shaped island is envisioned as a tropical eco-tourism hub that will include a theme park, harbour, and a port with a capacity for two large cruise ships.
Taipei’s skyline is best known for Taipei 101 – the world’s tallest green building – but another sculptural building will soon hold its own as the city’s latest icon of sustainability. International architecture firm Aedas is nearing completion on Lè Architecture, a pebble-shaped office building wrapped in vertical green vegetation and designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
Wobbleworks’ widely popular 3Doodler pen has been updated to a model that can draw wood, copper, and bronze sculptures in mid-air. The 3Doodler Pro works like a hybrid 3D printer and hot glue gun, melting composite material sticks into three-dimensional shapes and then cooling them with an embedded fan. The creators hope to inspire new generations of designers and architects with this emerging technology.
The strength of the project is its clarity in realizing the Eco-Island as a whole. It will create a beautiful, iconic form rising naturally out of the landscape, recalling the volcanic caldera of the area, and shaping the island into a continuous structure that would be an extremely efficient compaction of resort, retail, and housing. The project leaves the rest of the island as a place for aquaculture and agriculture, recreation, resort living, and cultural facilities.
RBSC MAGAZINE
Created as part of a greater revitalization project in Taipei’s Nangang District, Lè Architecture is an 18-storey green office building that mimics the likeness of a standing moss-covered pebble with its tapered silhouette. Flat glass panels clad the exterior and give the building a polished finish. Vertical aluminum fins loop around the building to minimize unwanted solar heat gain. At night, the glazed building will be illuminated with different lighting effects to make the office appear to shimmer like a gem.
The 3Doodler Pro features dials that control speed, temperature, and a fan to help cool projects as an artist works. An LCD screen displays the temperature, giving artists plenty of control over the details of their creations. The kit includes an additional, portable battery pack and nozzles and highlights the pen’s sleek, new carbon fibre shell. Right now, the 3Doodler is priced at US$249 and will be available in select stores, as well as from www.the3doodler.com.

CITY SCHOOL FARM
CANADA’S ULTIMATE TRAIL
BYE-BYE MICROBEADS
As our children are the future of humanity, it is critical that educational institutes raise a generation of knowledgeable kids who understand how to be good stewards of the earth. That’s the goal of an innovative urban farm school being built in San Francisco that will educate preschoolers through 8th graders with an ecology farm curriculum based on Waldorf Education.
Canada’s huge cross-country network of trails for cyclists, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts is finally nearing completion. To date, more than 20,000km of car-free trails have been connected, 26% of which are on water. According to The Great Trail web site, 80% of Canada’s population lives within 30 minutes of what is said to be the largest recreational trail in the world.
The school’s facade and roof have been covered with soil and plants to create a “Living Building” that achieves a number of objectives; the plants provide green space, air filtration and oxygen, and absorb storm water runoff to prevent flooding. The living roof and walls will also absorb sound to prevent excessive noise, and flowers planted on the green roof will provide food and support for the pollinators that are so critical to agricultural production.
While emphasis has been placed in European cities on cycling as a form of green transportation, The Great Trail gives Canadians – and visitors – the opportunity to not only commute, but also enjoy a variety of other activities amid the country’s diverse landscapes and cityscapes. Walking or hiking, cycling, paddling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are top pastimes. The Great Trail project has also boosted local communities.
Microbead beauty products will soon be a thing of the past in the UK, as the government there recently announced plans to ban them by the end of 2017. The abrasive bits meant to scrub away blemishes have been found to cause harm to aquatic life and ecosystems after being washed down the drain. The UK follows the US decision to ban the problematic beads after a petition signed by over 350,000 people, but some groups say the ban doesn’t go far enough. Greenpeace thinks the ban should extend to other products, according to The Guardian newspaper. The group’s ocean campaigner Louise Edge said, “Marine life doesn’t distinguish between plastic from a face wash and plastic from a washing detergent, so it makes no sense for this ban to be limited to some products and not others, as is currently proposed.”

Dear Golfing Members, I am pleased to report that the construction of the new Sports Pavilion is finally underway. The usual services of the old clubhouse have been arranged and relocated as announced by the club’s management. During the time of this construction, the Golf Committee will do its best to ensure members that golf course and driving range services will not be affected. However, F&B services, changing room facilities and the pro shop have been relocated to the main building. The Golf Committee apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. This month, member will see an introduction of the new tee box for hole #9. The tee box has been extended such that the hole can be played longer as it should be for a par 5. However, I would like to remind golfing members that the safety on the golf course is our main concern. Golfers on the fairway on hole #5 must be aware and give way to golfers teeing off from hole #9 (local etiquette). The Golf Committee would like to sincerely thank those members who participated in the intraport matches with RTAF and RTN as this helped us consolidate the good relationships that have been going on for a long time. We would also like to invite everyone to participate in the annual Round Up event, where many prizes are waiting to be won! Finally, I would like to thank all members for the support that has been given to the Golf Section and the committee throughout the year. I hope that all golfing members enjoyed golfing with improved facilities and the golfing events that were provided. I would also like to thank the General Committee for their support for the Golf Section. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the current and past Golf Committee members and staff for their hard work and dedication throughout recent years. Above all, we wish you good health and happy golfing at RBSC. Dr. Rattachat Mongkolnavin Captain of Golf RBSC

Some 24 golfers took part in the annual Golf Captain’s prize on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21th August 2016. The format of the tournament – chosen by the Golf Captain – followed that of the last few years and was decided on two days of stroke play (with handicap) with the added condition of participants being limited to a total of five clubs. Despite the difficulties playing with a limited number of clubs and playing 2/3 of normal handicap, RBSC’s golfers showed their abilities by turning in some very creditable scores. Khanet Sudhinaraset, who was the defending champion from last year, took a two stroke lead on the first day with a net 66. On the second day, Khanet extended his lead with a good start and despite dropping shots on the last few holes still managed to defeat runner up Dr. Tonphong by three shots. Khanet, who also won the St. Amory Cup earlier in the month, said, “I practiced with five clubs for a month before the tournament as it is harder to defend the title than to win it for the first time.” Khanet is a former Grandmaster of the International Practical Shooting Confederation and represented Thailand in competitions all over the world for many years. Early on the morning of 27th August a team of RBSC golfers left the club by bus to participate in the Intraport match with The Royal Thai Navy. 43 golfers participated in the event at the Plutaluang Royal Thai Navy Course in Sattahip. After a journey of 2 ½ hours the bus arrived and we were treated to breakfast. After the game at the extremely tricky golf course the Navy team hosted an early dinner and prize giving. The tournament was to be decided by using the 5 best scores on each side and then a further 10 scores chosen by lucky draw. After the initial scores were counted RBSC were leading, but by the time the penultimate score card was reached the Navy team were ahead by 2 matches. In a very generous gesture the hosts decided to allow the last score to count for double points and when RBSC won the final score was tied. A sudden death draw was performed and RBSC emerged as the winners. RBSC must thank the Royal Thai Navy for their hospitality and generosity which resulted in a very enjoyable outing for our golfers.

The conditions were quite difficult as the course is very narrow and long with plenty of trees and water. Even though it was impressive to see so many aircraft landing and taking off on both the runways that run alongside the course, the noise made concentrating on the game very difficult. Afterwards at the prize giving dinner, 30 scores were chosen from each side by lucky draw and the results were full of excitement with the points evenly split between the two teams. LADIES GOLF CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE Dear Lady Golf Members, I would like to thank all the lady golfers who turned out for the annual Pol. Gen. Chamras Cup on Monday, 12th September 2016. We had a marvelous time, which was made all the more special, as I was fortunate enough to finish as the tournament’s winner ahead of Jittima Viboonlarp. Although I may have emerged as this year’s winner, there was some exceptional golf on display, especially from Piyaporn Siripathoommas, Dr. Khunying Mallika Wannakrairot, Kanokjit Lertprasopsuk, and Malai Ravibanjurdkul. As Captain of the Ladies Golf Section at RBSC and RBSC Polo Club, it is part of my duty to inform Members of the upcoming changes that will be happening to our clubhouse. As you are no doubt aware, the clubhouse was closed on Monday, 26th September for decommissioning and strip-out, and from Monday, 10th October, the structure will be demolished and the site cleared for the construction of our new Sports Pavilion, which is slated for completion in December 2017. As we move towards the end of another very successful year of golf, I would like to encourage all lady golfers to register for the final two competitions in the Ladies Golf Section. Our Ladies’ Scramble and AGM will take place on 2nd November while the finale of the year, the Christmas Competition, is scheduled for 19th December. I hope to see as many Members as possible for these events, particularly our AGM. If you have a spare hour, then perhaps you can follow the golf tips in this month’s edition, which you can find on page 66. Most importantly, keep enjoying and improving your game and I look forward to seeing everyone at our AGM. Netrnapis Tangtrongvattana Ladies’ Golf Captain

66 GOLF TIPS WITH PRO BILL
Pic1: Start you practice session with 10 minutes at the chipping green
Pic2: Spend 5 minutes practicing bunker shots
Pic4: Spend 15 minutes practicing wedge shots off the grass
Pic3: Practice your long game for 20 minutes
Pic5: Finish off with 10 minutes of putting practice
HOW TO MAXIMIZE PRACTICE TIME To score lower you must improve your short game (chipping, bunker and putting). So you must spend twice as much time practicing it than your long game. If you practice for 1 hour hitting drivers, 3 woods and irons, you must practice 2 hours on your short game. So if you only have 1 hour to practice, try doing it like this‌ 1) Spend your first 10 minutes over at the chipping green just warming up and getting a feel for rhythm. Maybe only 20 balls. 2) Then go over to the practice bunker and spend 5 minutes there hitting maybe 10 or 15 balls.
3) Now go over to the range and take a tray of 40 balls. Hit 10 balls each with your 100 yard club and 150 yard club. Then 10 balls with your 3 wood and 10 with your driver. This should take 20 minutes. 4) Now take another tray of balls and go over to the grass practice area and hit 40, 50 and 60 yard shots with your sand wedge or pitching wedge. This should take 15 minutes. 5) Finally, go and spend 10 minutes on the putting green practicing distance control (long putts) and short 3 or 4 footers.

BAVARIAN OKTOBERFEST PROMOTION
A
The very first Oktoberfest folk festival was held in Munich, Germany in 1810 and included a travelling funfair and beer festival that helped to promote Bavarian agriculture. Over the past 200 hundred years, Oktoberfest has grown to become a global folk event that’s celebrate all over the world and here at RBSC our chefs have created a menu that reflects some of the finest traditional German foods. This year’s menu includes classic dishes such as meatloaf, veal, Shublic, Nuremburg, and Frankfurter sausages, Hamburg steak, meatballs and barbecue sparerib all served with side dishes and fresh vegetables. The home-made meatloaf bacon with Gemstone potato-green bean salad is a great way to start your meal, but if you’re dining with friends then perhaps the mixed grilled sausages (veal, Shublic, Nuremburg, Frankfurter) in BBQ sauce served with mashed potato and sauerkraut would be an ideal dish for sharing.
RBSC MAGAZINE
The forerunner of the world famous hamburger, the Hamburg Steak (beef or pork) is served with a delicious mushroom gravy sauce, mashed potato and vegetables. For a true taste of Oktoberfest, look no further than the Bavarian (pork) meatballs in caper sauce (Konigsberg Klopse) served with parsley potato and beetroot salad. Along with sausages and sauerkraut, Bavarian meatballs can be traced back over one hundred years. Completing the menu this month is the traditional BBQ pork spareribs served with pineapple coleslaw, corn on the cob and fried potato. Of course, any Oktoberfest would not be complete without a selection of tasty desserts. Enough to satisfy any sweet tooth, the Black Forest Cake is a very rich, old-fashioned chocolate layered cake that’s been soaked in liqueur. Something a little lighter but no less enjoyable is the homemade apple strudel with vanilla sauce. If you want to go the whole hog, you may want to order a glass or pitcher of beer.

78 TALK BACK
GIVING BACK ONE AT A TIME Chutilak Phanichewa After successfully running Kiarti Thanee Country Club Golf Course at Bangna, and the soon to be opened K Kick Soccer Training Academy by Weng Group, their latest recreational project is “Rockin’Jump - The Ultimate Trampoline Park” from the USA. One of Weng’s senior management team, Chutilak Phanichewa has now launched a creative CSR campaign called “Good Bye Toys Center” to accept and redistribute used toys to needy children.
“Have fun, keep healthy, and make a positive social impact!”
Who or what inspires you? My kids inspire me as I learn something new from them everyday. Their world is full of ever-changing ideas and key learning points. The challenge as a mom is to have your children maintain a good balance between traditional work ethics while still keeping up with modern ones. How important is family to you? I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. My family is the top priority of my life and my world revolves around them; I am always happy to put them ahead of me. Also I would like to help Thai society, therefore at Rockin’ Jump we have initiated the Good Bye Toys Center. What do you do to switch off and relax? For some people it may be easy to pause their thoughts, but I find very difficult to switch off completely. Hundreds of thoughts and worries are always going thorough my head whether it be work related or family related. I’m still learning from friends how to meditate and just focus on one’s breathing, which is easier said than done. What is your favourite holiday destination? We are always planning different holiday destinations. The main focus is to always find a place with good food and a safe environment. What is your definition of ‘luxury’? For me luxury is not synonymous with over the top material things in life. I guess my definition of leading a luxurious life would be to having the freedom to do things that you hope would inspire others around you. The splendor of life is
RBSC MAGAZINE
sometimes the simplest thing; like having to ability to wake up and appreciate the dawn. What is your favourite restaurant? What menu would you recommend? There are too many old and new restaurants to choose from. Some of my favourites don’t even have a name! You just know it’s good because the place has been there for many decades. It’s difficult to single out just one menu item; I enjoy eating all kinds of good food. What is your most prized possession? When I was younger, my most prized possession would have been my stamp collection, but I think it’s been donated. As maturity hits, I don’t have any other obsessions, except for Rockin’ Jump that is. Anything else you’d like to share with us? I guess I would like to share my outlook on life: “Have fun, keep healthy, and make a positive social impact!”
