PARADISE VILLAGE NEWS

How to show your employees you mean business!! A large corporation, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, “How much money do you make a week?” A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, “I make $400 a week. Why?” The CEO said, “Wait right here.” He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, “Here’s four weeks’ pay. Now GET OUT and don’t come back.” Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, “Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?” From across the room a voice said, “Pizza delivery guy from Domino’s.”

PARADISE VILLAGE NEWS

President’s Message The signs of Winter are becoming obvious. The picnic tables are put away. The motor homes/trailers are disappearing daily from our compound. The twigs and leaves are piling up in the compound and hopefully, will get used as compost in the Spring to enhance the many beautiful gardens and flower beds within our village. We can now see all of our neighbours homes and yards because most of the leaves are gone. We are still awaiting information on the emergency procedures from the R.M. of Ste. Anne, and hopefully, it will be ready by early Spring. To do it now would not be efficient as too many of us have vacated the Village for the Winter. Our General Meeting was attended “not too badly”, considering the weather and a hockey game on T.V. We always encourage our residents to attend the meetings and hope the new people moving into the Village will attend, to meet their neighbours and obtain information as to the “goings on” within their Village. We are currently working with Management/Owners to create proper storage in the Recreation Centre for the PVRA’s decorations and supplies. Racks have been installed in the back room storage area which will make it more convenient for your social/kitchen personnel to access. At this time, we have requested a date in mid May for our Spring 2019 1st General Meeting (date to be confirmed). Hopefully, all of you will have sufficient time to think and plan for the 2019 Executive. Remember, that without an Executive, the PVRA cannot operate!! And, once again, a friendly reminder that the speed limit within the Village is 20 km and all bird feeders should be empty and down until the end of November. Please respect these rules. They are there for a reason; Your Safety! Enjoy your Winter, where ever you may be. Ludwik Jarco Proudly, Your PVRA President

Words from the Editor Well, it is the last two months of 2018. Time is just flying by. I think it has been a great year with many fun things to do here in Paradise Village, the wonderfully hot and mosquito free summer we enjoyed, the good friends I have that love to go to concerts, travel, host pot lucks and live life to the fullest. I am also enjoying the PVRA Bingo nights where I have taken the place of Elsie Bordynuik, a reliable, confident, volunteer who has manned the collection of the card purchases each and every Thursday for many years. She deserves to come to Bingo now and relax or stay home with unexpected drop-in company for dinner. The PVRA and Linda Fulmore thank you for your dedication to Bingo nights and hopes you will continue to join us whenever you can. A big thank you from me goes out to Debbie Dault for helping Elsie and now is helping me with getting things ready like setting up the bingo cards and putting out the bingo sheets etc. It is appreciated very much. I want to briefly talk about the Thanksgiving dinner put on by the PVRA/Linda Fulmore and her team. As always walking into the Recreation Centre, seeing the numerous decorations and personal touches that make each event so special, is wonderful. The time and effort that the volunteers put into each event is to be commended. We can never thank you all enough for your dedication and attention to every detail. The Thanksgiving dinner was no exception; from the ambience, the table settings, the beautiful paper flowers, the camaraderie of our fellow residents, the friendship, the food (AMAZING), and of course the entertainment. I sang so much that night that I lost my voice. I even danced a polka with one of our new residents who sat at our table. It was so much fun and my Mom enjoyed it too. It was a great turnout for the 2nd PVRA General Meeting. Please folks put heads together and be ready for the addition of a New Executive in May 2019. Think about it, talk about it, meet together, ask for suggestions, research what it takes, then apply yourselves to this cause because it is worthwhile. Without the PVRA and its Executive we would be at the mercy of management and their ideas of a good quality of life. We would lose touch with each other and be nothing more than neighbours in an urban community. It is important to stick together and keep the PVRA going. There is so much more we can do that can provide us, the residents of Paradise Village, with an amazing quality of life. See you in December. Debbie Kokil, Newsletter Editor

Social Committee News Thanksgiving Dinner was a huge success with a great meal provided by Tracey McClintock and her girls. Thank you goes out to Carol Somerville and Gwen Simpson for their vision on decorations and to all the girls who helped make them. The gentlemen who came out and set up the tables and chairs, the ladies who set the tables, such a large group of volunteers that make everything go so much faster and felt like only minutes to accomplish. You are amazing! It was wonderful to be able to relax and enjoy the meal. Thank you to “Two for the Show” and the many songs they played and sang too. We danced and sang the night away and had a great time. Many new residents attended and made new friends. Residents of Paradise Village you are “AWESOME!” We the PVRA and Social Committee cannot do it without your support and attendance. I look forward to seeing you at the PVRA Winter Wonderland Christmas Dinner & Dance. Music provided by our very own DJ Ray Belisle and dinner catered by Olga from Pansy. The Funny Bone A farmer had 5 female pigs. Times were hard, so he decided to take them to the county fair and sell them. At the fair, he met another farmer who owned 5 male pigs. After talking a bit, they decided to mate the pigs and split everything 50/50. The farmers lived 60 miles apart, so they decided to drive 30 miles each morning and find a field in which to let the pigs mate. The first morning, the farmer with the female pigs got up at 5 am , loaded the pigs into the family station wagon (which was the only vehicle he had) and drove the thirty miles. While the pigs were mating, he asked the other farmer, “How will I know if they are pregnant?” The other farmer replied, “If they’re lying in the grass tomorrow morning, they’ll be pregnant. If they’re lying in the mud, they’re not.” The next morning the pigs were rolling in the mud, so he hosed them off, loaded them into the family station wagon again and proceeded to try again. This continued each morning for more than a week and both farmers were worn out. The next morning, he was too tired to get out of bed. He called to his wife, “Honey, please look outside and tell me whether the pigs are in the mud or in the grass.” “Neither,” yelled his wife, “they’re in the station wagon and one of them is honking the horn!” ~~~ Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn’t find a parking place. Looking up to heaven he said, ‘Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of me life and give up me Irish whiskey!’ Miraculously, a parking place appeared. Paddy looked up again and said, ‘Never mind, I found one.’ RESIDENTS LIST PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS Residents who wish to provide other residents with professional business support.
