The next Social Committee Meeting is on Friday, December 14th, 2018 at 11 am in the Recreation Centre. Posts are also put on the Paradise Village Ste Anne Facebook Page. All residents welcome.

I would like to thank the volunteers and residents for all the help and support with both the PVRA Monthly Lunch and the Grey Cup Party, in particular Sherran Ross, Linda Burfoot, Heather Bencharski, Cheryl Porte and Gay Lemay. As always these social events could not function without the unselfish acts of those who step up to help. Both events were great turnouts and a lot of fun! See you at the Winter Wonderland Christmas Dinner and New Year’s Eve Dance. Linda Fulmore, Social Committee Chair

PARADISE VILLAGE NEWS

President’s Message This will be my last message until my return in April, 2019. Your PVRA is in good hands during my absence, Gord MacPherson, Second Vice President, is in control and is more than capable, along with the rest of your Executive to handle any situation that may arise. October was busy with RB Hearings and RTC Hearings. We await the official outcomes of these events. A RTB Hearing in early November, pertaining only to the Residents of Harmony Lane also took place. Again, we await the official outcome of this hearing. Management/Owners of the Village have confirmed that we can have our General Meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. This will be the time for you to vote for your new Executive to guide you through the next two years. You will have adequate time to think about your candidates over the Winter months. It is extremely important that you choose your Executive, so that your PVRA can continue to provide you all with the programs you are currently enjoying and to ensure that life in Paradise Village is one of quality. The residents in Paradise Village recently lost a great man on October 31, 2018, Charles Alexander Hebert (“Sandy” Hebert) of 35 Village Drive, due to a severe medical issue. He assisted your PVRA whenever he was asked; questioning accounting issues and practices within the Village and with our current legislation. He was a tremendous help to me and your Executive team. He will be missed, and his quest to ensure fair treatment to all Paradise Village residents will continue on. This year, your PVRA Executive in conjunction with Maple Leaf Foods has delivered approximately 80 hams to the Ste. Anne Food Bank. This is such a worthy cause and I ask that each and every one of you, who are able, please support this tremendous cause. Your efforts, big or small, will be truly appreciated. I don’t know how many of you have noticed, but Management has completed the outside of the Recreation Centre. Siding has finally been put on the upper windows over the pool area, finishing the look of the exterior building. Nice job. Don’t forget the judging that will take place in December for the best decorated home/yard. The prizes will be worth the effort you put into it. Who knows, it may be you?!! Good luck! Your Social Committee headed by Linda Fulmore, has many spectacular events for those people in the Village who choose to spend their winter here. Get out and mingle with your friends and neighbours. Enjoy yourselves. All these events are planned for your enjoyment so don’t let them pass you by without making an effort to take them in. As usual, we anticipate that the PVRA will put on a fabulous Christmas Dinner on December 8, 2018. So please come out and enjoy the festivities in support of your PVRA. A note to “whomever”, residing in the Village, feels they can close the back gates on Nature; please remember you are not the only person living in the Village! The gates do not belong to you. They are the property of Paradise Village. It also presents a safety issue. It is up to Management/Owners to decide whether they are open or closed. We ask that you show some consideration for your neighbours. On a more pleasant note, on behalf of me and your PVRA Executive, we would like to extend our Best Wishes for a wonderful Christmas Season spent with family and friends and may 2019 be peaceful and healthy for everyone. Ludwik Jarco Proudly, President PVRA

Words from the Editor Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Another year has come and gone. Only one more year and it will be 2020 which I think is really cool. We all remember the scare of 2000 when we thought the world would not be able to function because computers would not keep on working. Weren’t we all fooled? LOL. Now look at us and the technology we use. I hope that everyone will happily decorate his or her home for the PVRA Contest and that all are ready for another fantastic Christmas Dinner on December 8th and the New Year’s Celebra-

tion with Geoff and the Rockets. I wish to thank the advertisers of this newsletter for your support year after year. It is very much appreciated and I know that our PVRA Members use and count on your businesses all year round. I wish you much success and continued growth going forward in 2019! I wish to thank Myriam of Myriam Dyck Websites & Graphics Design for her expertise and support in producing this newsletter. It has made my work so much easier. I wish to thank Dan Guetre for all of his support in the printing of this newsletter every single month.

Dan will often work way past our bedtime in order to print our newsletter on time. Dan works hard and often provides great advice on how to grow the newsletter. I wish to thank the PVRA Executive for their support in the choices I have made in editing this newsletter each month. I wish to thank the PVRA Members and Residents for their input, suggestions, and support of this newsletter. Food for thought: The Holiday Season brings out the best and the worst in people. Between family conflicts, financial woes, holiday breakups, and high expectations,

Christmas isn’t always a happy time for everyone; but is a time to be grateful and caring, to family, friends, co-workers, neighbours, and people we deal with on a daily basis. Be one of those that the Holiday Season brings out the Best in. See you in 2019. Debbie Kokil, Newsletter Editor

The Funny Bone While riding my Harley, I swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and landed in a ditch, severely banging my head. Dazed and confused I crawled out of the ditch to the edge of the road when a shiny new convertible pulled up with a very beautiful woman who asked, “Are you okay?” As I looked up, I noticed she was wearing a low cut blouse with cleavage to die for... “I’m okay I think,” I replied as I pulled myself up to the side of the car to get a closer look. She said, “Get in and I’ll take you home so I can clean and bandage that nasty scrape on your head.” “That’s nice of you,” I answered, “but I don’t think my wife will like me doing that!” “Oh, come now, I’m a nurse,” she insisted. “I need to see if you have any more scrapes and then treat them properly.” Well, she was really pretty and very persuasive. Being sort of shaken and weak, I agreed, but repeated, “I’m sure my wife won’t like this.” We arrived at her place which was just few miles away and, after a couple of cold beers and the bandaging, I thanked her and said, “I feel a lot better but I know my wife is going to be really upset so I’d better go now.” “Don’t be silly!” she said with a smile. “Stay for a while. She won’t know anything. By the way, where is she?” “Still in the ditch with the Harley, I guess.”

Paradise Squares had two special dances lately, Halloween Dance on October 30th & Hobo Nite on November 20th. Both dances were well attended including visiting clubs from Beausejour and Winnipeg. Hobo Nite also saw Association representatives visit our club. Once again our famous Hobo Stew was served during the evening, a secret recipe that has never been duplicated because nobody remembers what goes in it! As the photos indicate, a good dance, time was had by all. Larry Trush

Manitoba Square & Round Dance Federation Bob & Martha Werry, Paradise Squares Dance Club members (former residents of Paradise Village) received the Federation’s Crocus Long Service Award recently. Federation President Couple Del & Yvonne Marks, of our club, made the presentation at the Association Dance on November 24th. Congrats go to Bob & Martha! Larry Trush
