Friends and Families, Greetings! Thank you for connecting with our virtual Leisure Magazine—Prince William County’s go-to source for all things recreation. The current COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated just how much we need our parks and trails for our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. During this difficult time the Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism is working diligently to create safe opportunities for people to connect with nature and one another in the midst of social distance restrictions. All of our parks and facilities are now open with some restrictions. The Sharron Baucom Dale City and Chinn Aquatic and Fitness Centers are open to members only by appointment. Members can register in advance for 90-minute time slots and exercise in a generously spaced and safe environment. Go to https://conta.cc/3aoxotz, to secure your spot. Fitness classes will resume in the near future as we build up our staffing levels. Look to our parks map on the last page as a guide for exploring the parks and trails of Prince William County. Stop by the Dale City Farmers Market on Sunday mornings to browse the freshest selection of fruits, vegetables, and delectable bites. A list of vendors can be found at www.dalecitymarket.com. Stroll through “Holidays Through the Ages” at Rippon Lodge Historic Site to view seasonal festivities over the centuries. The Lil Explorers Series continues with Art in Nature. Holiday Cookie Decorating promises an evening of fun. I am grateful for your support as a trusted provider for your recreation needs. Our passionate staff is committed to ensuring you have an exceptional experience at every touch point. Please don’t hesitate to let us know via parkscsd@pwcgov.org if we can do more to meet your expectations or if you need help finding the perfect recreation opportunity. May you strive to be your best self with Prince William County Parks, Recreation & Tourism as your partner.

We are THRILLED to announce that the CAPRA Board of the National Recreation and Park Association officially informed Prince William County Parks, Recreation & Tourism that we are now a recognized CAPRA Accredited organization. The road to accreditation was not a easy process, but a successful process that has raised PWC DPRT into the highest 1% category representing the best practices being provided by Parks & Recreation agencies in the nation. Each division participated for 16 months of accreditation efforts and we were so proud of the numerous staff representing all levels of the organization in compiling a significant volume of material, writing policies, procedures, working in teams to challenge each other to provide the required evidence of compliance. This included a significant review of the 151 standards that are examined.

What is CAPRA? NRPA’s Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) provides quality assurance and quality improvement of accredited park and recreation agencies throughout the United States by providing agencies with a management system of best practices. CAPRA is the only national accreditation of park and recreation agencies and is a valuable measure of an agency’s overall quality of operation, management, and service to the community. Achieving CAPRA accreditation is the best way to demonstrate that your agency and your staff provide your community with the highest level of service.
