Do you remember singing these words when we were children? How brightly did your little light shine in the darkness? How boldly do we let our light shine before others today?

With your faithful support, Quiet Hour Ministries shines its light worldwide each year. Together we build and repair churches, chapels and schools; reach people through gospel workers; provide hope through medical clinics; mentor through children’s program; and share Jesus through community-wide evangelistic meetings. The question is—are people seeing this and giving glory to God? Are the gifts you give so faithfully making a difference? Are the mission team members who work so diligently connecting with those they serve? Do the dedicated gospel workers who toil in the field have the tools they need to persevere? Are the dedicated staff in our world headquarters making the work more effective and efficient? Have we boldly let it shine so others may give glory to our Father in heaven?

2 Corinthians 3:12 says, “Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.” Each year, our Annual Report offers a peek at how God has blessed this ministry. As you read, I hope you will be amazed and rejoice at how He can take our bold but meager light and use it to His glory. Your gifts and prayers give so many the opportunity to experience the light of God’s love and grace and the hope and peace of a future with Him.

Evangelism is the mission of Quiet Hour Ministries. We embrace the commission Christ left us to share the story of His saving grace with people in every nook and cranny of the world. Together, we can follow through. Your financial and prayerful support is the foundation on which we build.

Every year Quiet Hour Ministries sends hundreds of North America-based team members on short-term evangelism mission trips. Over the course of two weeks, these team members are involved in presenting evangelism meetings; leading children’s programs; offering basic care at free medical clinics; making home, orphanage or hospital visits and building churches and schools.

Our unique cycle of evangelism support is, however, more comprehensive than dropping in North Americanbased mission teams. First, we support gospel workers within the communities we are asked to visit. These workers develop relationships with their friends and neighbors, sowing seeds months before our arrival. And after we leave, we focus not on only on the initial introductions to Jesus, but also on long-term faith-building, community nurturing and growth. From local-language Bibles, to children’s ministry tools, we leave local church members tools to assist them in building relationships for Jesus. Through materials and facilities, we provide support to these fledgling congregations after our departure.

This requires a broad effort of dedicated support at home and in the field. We are committed to using your faithful gifts carefully, thoughtfully and efficiently to provide lasting support to God’s people throughout the world—for now and for eternity. Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. Rejoice!

Our theme for 2018 was Be Bold! And a multitude took up the cry. From donors and supporters to team members and international church members, we all cried “be bold!” …and as a result we saw God work.

In Kenya and Cuba, Philippines and Ukraine, Egypt and Ecuador, and many, many more countries, our resolution to be bold impacted thousands.

Looking back on the year, each person I talk with has something similar to say about their memories from QHM mission trips and projects around the world: “It was amazing, I saw God work and it changed my life.” This common sentiment is followed by the desire to continue that powerful experience. “Let’s do this again; let’s stay in touch,” team members say, when returning home threatens the friendships built around serving God together. “Our experience was so special, we don’t want it to end,” is on everyone’s lips. This personal impact is what happens when people partner with God and share His saving grace.

It should be no surprise that if the daily routine and focus of a mission trip to a distant community becomes the routine and focus of our daily lives, we will see God work at home as He does in the field. When our focus is on serving others, looking for opportunities to share the gospel and soaking our daily activities in prayer, the experience of the mission trip won’t end! When we continue to give our time, energy and resources at home, as we do in the field, we are truly bold for God.

In 2018, more than100,000 people around the world were touched by the love of Jesus through our teams and partners. Boldly, and with compassion. In response, more than 9,000 accepted Jesus and were baptized.

For those of us in North America, the reality that someone has never heard the good news of Jesus in such a noisy, over-connected world is almost unthinkable. Yet, even today there are so many places where He is largely unknown and people have barely even heard the mention of His name. Worse yet, so many of our fellow travelers have been left with a twisted and fearful relationship with their Creator. Too many feel worthless and unseen, without love, hope or purpose. That each of us is deeply valued and desirable to our friend Jesus is profoundly life changing no matter who we are. In many cases, that paradigm shift comes with a community of brothers and sisters who are essential to the nurturing and feeding of growing Christians.

Our evangelism goal is to introduce people to our friend Jesus. Then, we want to do everything we are capable of to support communities so they have the resources they need to cultivate these budding relationships. Gospel workers, health clinics, children’s programs and building projects are all supported with an eye towards providing the tools of nurturing.

Last year, more than 9,000 people world-wide started their walk with Jesus. Praise God! To our dear brothers and sisters in Christ: We are honored to be part of your story and to have the opportunity to work alongside you to introduce more to our friend Jesus! Welcome to the family of God. We can’t wait to celebrate together someday with Jesus!

As we study Jesus’ example, we see the importance of tending to the physical needs of people before their spiritual needs can be met. In fact, He clearly tells us in Matthew 25 that when we take care of the least of these, we are taking care of Him.

This is why clinics are such an important part of QHM mission trips. Last year, nearly 17,000 people were touched through our clinic outreach. From blood pressure and glucose testing, to eyeglasses and health information, each mission team took clinic opportunities to touch the hearts of people around them.

Many times, that is a precursor to continued association with the local congregation. Other times, it is the only contact they may have with Christians. In either case, the seed of Jesus’ love and care for them is planted.

What our clinics can include varies from country to country, and team to team, depending on the credentials of team members and permits needed in each jurisdiction. Perhaps one of the greatest areas of need is for inexpensive reading glasses, which generally do not require a medical prescription. Patients can be screened effectively by non-credentialed volunteers and most mission trips distribute close to a thousand pairs over the course of the mission.

Our team will also offer a health presentation as part of each evening’s meetings. These are often customized to cover topics such as smoking, drinking, healthy eating and hygiene, with emphasis on things that are of importance to the local community.

One of the most powerful things our team members experience on these trips is the impact of the children’s programs. In most of the places we visit there are precious few resources for children. They often spend large quantities of time working with their parents to survive. In response, children are eager to be a part of something unusual and special. They enthusiastically engage in the songs, stories and crafts.

While children in North America have grown indifferent to stories told with the assistance of felts and puppets, they are new visual presentations for many children around the world. To have paper, crayons and scissors for crafts is an exciting and unheard of opportunity. In some countries, even older children in their teens attend before moving on to the adult meetings.

Often, word of our children’s programs spread throughout the community and new children arrive each evening to be a part of it, sometimes unaccompanied by parents. The result is, many children have an immediate reaction to meeting their friend Jesus. Their response is often authentic and spontaneous.

In fact, we often hear stories of how parents are begged to attend the adult meetings with them, after a child’s visit. As Jesus said, children understand immediately.

Once our team departs, the children’s program supplies—from a complete felt set to craft supplies and teachers book are left with the local congregation. This helps to maintain the momentum and helps them maintain a robust and active children’s program.

QUICK FACT:

There is no question: Christians need fellowship with one another. One of the ties that binds is a church home. We have discovered that sometimes it’s not just the glamorous work that needs to be done. From painting to cleaning up rubble, starting from scratch to restoration, our mission teams work with Adventist church officials throughout the world to ensure that each congregation has a suitable place to worship.

Whatever the building project is, it generally draws attention in the community. While construction is commonplace in the United States, it is less common in many parts of the world. As these projects are undertaken, it builds relationships throughout the community.

Many of the supplies are sourced locally and our team members will often work alongside local construction crews. This provides one more opportunity to invite people to meetings and to check out the local church. It also provides credibility to the local congregations.

Construction projects also garner the attention of local city and civic officials. Government and staff leaders may attend meetings simply because of a permit application.

We know that new believers are much more likely to continue to attend church each week and become part of the church community if there is a permanent church home. This is often some of the least glamorous work we do, but it is also some of the most important.

God has such amazing ways to draw people to Him. And construction is one of the most powerful ways we can support connection with Him in communities world wide.

IMPACT: CONSTRUCTION

In many locations, crumbling infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges. New construction is not always needed. Instead renovating and repair on languishing properties can cost-effectively provide quick results and long-term solutions.

Can you imagine not being able to just pick up a book or glance at the internet to connect with God’s Word?

We take for granted how many ways the information is available to us. A recent article suggests that the full Bible has been translated into about 700 languages, while at least part of the Bible has been translated into more than 3,000 languages.

But in a world with just over 7,000 known languages that leaves an astonishing gap. Not only that, but an available translation does not necessarily ensure distribution. This is why we focus on local-language Bible distribution around the world.

Last year, with the generous and faithful gifts of our donors, we were able to distribute nearly 20,000 locallanguage Bibles world-wide. Through this work our partners and mission teams offer more people the opportunity to connect with the story of Jesus directly.

In addition, we were instrumental in distributing local-language songbooks, Spirit of Prophecy books and 6,000 Desire of Ages in West Africa.

We know the impact that having a personal Bible makes in building a personal understanding and relationship with Jesus is life changing. Praise God that we live in a time when His word can move so quickly throughout the world!

One of the most incredible parts of doing missions is that it is not a one way effort. For every conversion story, there is an accompanying story of connection, inspiration and friendship. From speakers answering their own altar calls, to making lifelong friends, our team members come home with stories of the impact that doing the mission has on their relationships with Jesus.

Our team members come from all walks of life, from all ages, colors, home countries, socioeconomic and education levels. They are bound together in wanting to make a difference for others because of their friend Jesus.

Many times, team members are asked to step out of their comfort zones, to do hard things and to allow God to work through them in ways they are not entirely sure of. And they each come back amazed at the results. In the words of the old hymn, God uses us just as we are.

In turn, these team members serve as ambassadors for Quiet Hour Ministries in their home congregations. In fact, many of our team members have done multiple missions with us and become an integral part of the Quiet Hour Ministries family.

Increasing the reach of our recruiting efforts continues to be a priority. This ministry offers an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to return from the experience on fire for Him. We believe that being involved in missions strengthens our resolve as a people and will prepare for the soon coming of our Savior.

What can God’s money accomplish? In 2018 we saw Him accomplish bold things. This year, gifts from hundreds of donors and patrons were entrusted to Quiet Hour Ministries. It’s incredible how He takes these gifts and multiplies them to care for people in the same way He did so long ago with the loaves and fishes. What a blessing it is!

So often we are tempted to count a year as a success by how much money came in. This ministry is very blessed with faithful donors and volunteers. But more importantly, it is amazing to look back over the year and see what their gifts have accomplished and the impact they have made around the world.

Last year, more than 9,000 people were baptized into the family of God! Moreover, more than 100,000 people were reached and seeds planted around the world.

As we seek to be good stewards of the resources God provides, we continually focus on our primary mission of introducing people to our friend Jesus. I am grateful each day to be part of that mission. I am energized and amazed as I see God working to take our offerings and use them together for His purpose.

Someday, we will have the opportunity to sit down and learn the stories of those who have been touched by Quiet Hour Ministries and our donors. I am eager for that day. Until then, we will continue to praise God from whom all blessing flow—all creatures here below.
