WHEN HEALTH MATTERS MORE As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to swirl around the world, the need for good health education becomes more critical than ever. While our mission teams prepare for travel as soon as it is safe, until then, our partners in communities worldwide continue the work.

In many countries, quality medical care is often expensive and in very short supply.

This pandemic has only made those challenges worse. Poor nutrition, polluted water and air, unhealthy hygiene all hinder efforts to maintain health, even in the best of times.

Now more than ever, supporting our partners’ efforts to offer free clinics matters! Learning about nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, fresh air, rest, temperance and trust in God improves health. It renews hope for thousands of frightened and concerned people. There, they also learn how deeply God cares for our needs and hearts are opened to His calling.

We take good medical care and education for granted in North America. But with your help, the gift of health will improve lives around the world and that impact will grow even more significant in the coming months. GIVE ME OIL IN MY LAMP Do you remember the old camp song that asked for oil in my lamp, keep it burning, keep it burning ’til the break of day?

Based on the parable of the seven virgins, this song is so fitting. We know how important it is to be ready when God calls.

While mission teams still cannot work alongside our partners worldwide, they are focused on being prepared to return to the field as soon as it is safe.

They also know that COVID-19 may be here to stay even if there are fewer infections. That means free health clinics will remain meaningful opportunities to share Jesus when we can return to the field.

In clinics, team members offer health education that addresses a community’s unique challenges. These topics can include hygiene, sanitation, clean water and healthy diets based on local food resources. They also screen for diabetes, heart disease and other chronic issues that require direct medical care.

Especially now, screening for underlying conditions such as diabetes and heart disease will offer residents a better understanding of their pandemic risks and offer advice on reducing them.
