PRESIDENT'S LETTER

A Message from the President I hope that you all have had a safe and enjoyable holiday season with family and friends. Truly there is no better venue where you can experience the richness and magic of the season than Quail Creek Country Club. We have an exciting year ahead with much to look forward to. The capital project will be proceeding full force with the summer opening of our new Sports Center & Spa that will feature a Pro Shop; Cart Barn; Fitness, Wellness & Spa operations; and a refreshed swimming pool area. We also look forward to the start, after Easter, of a greatly expanded Greenside Grille kitchen and commissary where Chef Ross and his team can continue to amaze us with their culinary excellence. There will also be a lot of action on the courts as the tennis courts are renovated and we add four pickleball courts, three bocce courts and a croquet court. The new Creekside Café will be built in the area of the current Cart Barn and many other upgrades and renovations will be underway. All of this will combine to make us one of the premier clubs in the State of Florida. George Domurot and the Construction Committee and Hedy Whitney and the Strategic Planning Committee have done a phenomenal job keeping our capital

project on pace and on budget. We cannot thank them enough for the countless hours they have dedicated to bring this project to life. Once again, I would like to thank Don Hunter for his hard work and vision over the past three years. We wish Don and his family well in the next chapter of their lives. Don has left us with a truly outstanding Staff who fulfill their daily duties with leadership, passion and excellence. Meanwhile, our Search Committee, chaired by Bill Senter, is hard at work to identify an excellent candidate to be our next COO/GM. Our search firm, Kopplin Kuebler & Wallace, has assured us they will deliver a slate of outstanding candidates for our consideration. This couldn’t be a more exciting time to be a Member of Quail Creek Country Club. We have a terrific Staff, great golf courses, outstanding food and a capital project coming to fruition that will set us apart from other area clubs. We are truly blessed. Happy and healthy New Year to you all! Jim Clayton

MEMBERSHIP INITIATIVES

How You Can Help Grow Our Membership Our Members are a key factor in Membership recruitment and retention. Here are some ways that you can help:

Challenge Circle Members who successfully refer a new Member to QCCC will join our Challenge Circle, which features a $250 credit to your Club account. Over the past year, our Member referral rate doubled from 20 percent to 40 percent. Approximately 50 Members are currently part of the Challenge Circle. Contact Membership Director Nick Gray for more information at 254-7418 or ngray@quailcreekcc.com.

Ambassador Program Unique among Southwest Florida country clubs, our volunteer Ambassadors help new Members feel welcome and connected; answer their questions; and assist with their integration into Club activities and amenities. Ambassadors, both singles and couples, are usually paired with new Members who share

Rate and Review QCCC Online Many of us check out third party reviews and testimonials prior to purchases and prospective country club members are no different. Positive ratings and reviews left on sites such as Google, our Facebook page and Yelp not only enhance the online conversation about our Club, but also increase our visibility in online searches. Please take a few moments to rate QCCC on these sites.

common interests and a similar demographic profile. Ambassadors typically mentor one or two new Members and serve as a resource primarily through their first year in the Club. Chaired by Members Julie and Frank Mann, the program currently has more than 150 Ambassadors and Coordinators, but always welcomes new participants. Contact Sonia Hernandez for more information at shernandez@quailcreekcc.com.

Neighborhood & Condo Captains This new initiative is designed to facilitate the prospective Member referral process in communities that could be a source of new Members. Member Anne Genovese is organizing the program and is seeking volunteers to serve as “captains” for their neighborhood or condominium building. Being a captain would require minimal time and effort. To learn more and to join the growing list of captains, contact Anne at annegenovese@ gmail.com.

We Want to Hear from You! Submit your comments about the Club through our Ombudsman Program. Your suggestions will be reviewed and you will receive personal followup. Anonymous comments are also welcome. Email ombudsman@quailcreekcc.com or use one of our comment boxes in the Women’s and Men’s Locker Rooms and temporary locations for Golf, Tennis/ Bocce and Fitness operations.

QCCC PROJECT

Collier County firefighters helped jump start demolition of the former Fitness and Tennis Centers during training exercises held at QCCC the last two weeks of November. The Club was honored to help these public servants who do so much to protect our community.

Construction Cam! As Quail Trails went to press, demolition of the former Tennis and Fitness Centers was imminent, to be followed by the start of construction on the new Sports Center & Spa. Watch a live stream of construction progress via our Construction Cam. Perched on the Clubhouse roof, the camera also provides the option of time lapse video for those who want a quick view of the most recent action. You can access the Construction Cam on the home page of the Public Website. Also check the Project Section of the Member Website for updates.

ON THE GREEN

If I Were a Member of Quail Creek ... by Mike Dero, Director of Golf Every country club golf professional has a dream of being a member of a nice club some day. With that in mind, I’d like to share what I would do to get the most out of “my” QCCC Membership. In no particular order, here is my wish list: 1. I would enjoy the Thursday Play & Stay where you can fill out your foursome with guests who pay just a cart fee if you all stay for dinner. We are the only club in Southwest Florida with a weekly guest offer like this. 2. I’d play in the Nine & Dine Scramble events as a couple or as a group of individuals. The concept of “Serious Fun, Not Serious Golf’ says that these nights are all about enjoyment.

week to exercise my brain. I’ve always loved playing Gin and will eventually become a Bridge player. I’d play in one of the organized groups or find a group of people who enjoy playing cards, Mahjong or dominoes. And, as an avid reader, I would join Book Club for additional mental stimulation. 6. I’d take advantage of half-price golf guest days (Thursday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings before 11:00 am). No other club in town has these opportunities to entertain guests at such a good rate. 7. I’d find a group of golfers who I truly enjoyed playing with -- men and women who make me laugh, challenge me and become close social friends. I’d join the MGA and play in all of the events. If I were a woman, I’d probably play in both the WGA and the Lady Niners. I’d take a golf lesson from all of the teaching pros and then decide whom I want to team up with as my full-time coach.

From putts to pages! Mike Dero discusses his favorite reads with Book Club members Mary Lou Walsh, left, and Dossie Schoeler. Why? See #5 on Mike’s wish list.

3. I’d begin a fitness program of some sort so that my lower back and hamstrings don’t feel so stiff. I’d start out slowly and work up to better overall health. 4. I’d get to know the wonderful Staff at the Club. They are all here to help you enjoy your Membership experience. I’d joke with them, laugh with them and ask the pros to play golf with me and my friends. We are all in this Club’s success together.

10

5. I’d play cards or another game one day a

8. I’d certainly ask for a driver fitting and find out what driver shaft and loft helps me add 20-30 yards. 9. I’d practice my wedge game at the Short Game Experience area, my chipping at the chipping area and learn some putting practice drills so that I can enjoy honing my putting skills. 10. I’d order personalized or “funny quote” golf balls for birthday presents for friends and family who are hard to buy for. 11. Finally, I’d regularly attend Mike’s Sunday Putting sessions at 10:00 am. I’d become a confident good putter and understand the saying ”Those who like to putt, love the game of golf.”

‘Racquet Fit’ – A Tailored Approach to Better Tennis by Jon Call, Director of Tennis As demolition and construction for the project picks up steam, the Tennis and Fitness Staffs are working together on programs we will be implementing in the new Sports Center & Spa. Luanne Smith and I recently attended the Racquet Fit certification seminar in Atlanta. Racquet Fit is an educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to tennis. Its philosophy is that there is no one technically correct way to play tennis; however, there is one most efficient way for each player that is based on what the player is physically capable of. For those of you familiar with the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) program, this is the tennis adaptation. Learn ways to play tennis more efficiently

by having one of our Quail Creek professionals conduct your Racquet Fit physical assessment. After this is completed, there are various exercises we can recommend to help you improve your game and avoid injuries. I am pleased to be among the first tennis professionals in Southwest Florida to have this certification, and was the only Director of Tennis from this area who attended the seminar. I spoke with a number of my local peers and none of them has this certification. We’re pleased that QCCC is on the leading edge of this innovative approach to personal fitness and tennis performance. Stay tuned for more details!

Fitness is not just about lifting weights. Our classes are built around creating a healthy lifestyle. This involves activities discussing mental health, nutritional health and strength/ conditioning. Your child will get far more out of these classes than just how to "exercise.” The goal is to create good habits for a lifetime.

Our Junior Fitness Program teaches kids body awareness, mobility in a specific area and strength. This helps prevent injuries. Our junior programs are built to help hardwire proper movement patterns and promote overall "fitness.”

Our DoTerra Essential Oils help with multiple ailments and can help with stress, anxiety and sleep in your home and even for your pet. Pilates: Bobbie Lee Davenport, Luanne Smith and Joan Stagg Pilates improves posture, gait, stability, core strength and balance, thus reducing the risk of injury. Pilates provides an excellent way to age gracefully with the help of a systematic approach to the work and the design of the equipment. PowerPlate: All Personal Trainers

Vibration exercise helps increase strength and flexibility. Use of the PowerPlate helps avoid joint and muscle strain and can boost metabolism. TPI – Titleist Performance Institute: Jon Balyeat, Dr. Jacob Madigan and Luanne Smith TPI provides a physical screen to determine physical ability and limitations and helps the athlete with flexibility and stability. Racquet Fit: Jon Call and Luanne Smith This new program employs a team approach by our Fitness and Tennis professionals. We can provide a physical assessment for tennis players that will lead to tailored efficiencies and recommended strength exercises to help you avoid injuries. Esthetician – Skin care: Darla Johnson Facials promote relaxation by reducing the stress and tension of facial muscles, help calm anxiety levels and can uplift your mood. Cleansing your skin thoroughly removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores, giving your cells oxygen and blood circulation to detoxify the skin. Your skin will feel smooth and refreshed with a healthy glow. Contact Teri at 597-9725 to see how we can help you become your very best!

QCCC Aims for Culinary Blue Zones Certification by Scott Ross, Executive Chef Inspired by the longest-lived cultures in the world, the Blue Zones Project wants you to live longer and healthier. Currently more than 450 organizations serving 150,000 people in Southwest Florida are Blue Zones certified, including QCCC’s Fitness, Wellness & Spa operations. Our next goal is to achieve Blue Zones certification for our culinary program. We are well on our way and hope to be certified in the spring of 2019. People make numerous food decisions every day. Through our menus at the Club, we want to make healthier choices easier for you. This means adding Blue Zones-certified items to our a la carte menus in the Greenside Grille. These choices will be noted on the menus. They will be more nutritious than some other items while, at the same time, being tasty, attractive and cost effective. Stay tuned for updates as our Food and Beverage operations strive to become Blue Zones certified.

Congratulations Chef! QCCC's Executive Chef Scott Ross has been voted 2018 Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Caxambas Chapter of Southwest Florida. The award is the result of voting by 250 of Chef's peers. He was recognized for being an ACF board member and for his charitable work that includes hosting the annual ACF Golf Tournament at QCCC and holding wine dinners to benefit ACF culinary scholarships. Well deserved, Chef!
