OUR VALUES OUR PROMISE OUR IMPACT 2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT Rancho Family YMCA
DEAR FRIENDS & SUPPORTERS, We just wrapped up another great year at the Rancho Family YMCA. Now in our 25th year, we continually look for new ways to impact our neighbors in Rancho Pe単asquitos and surrounding communities. Please enjoy some of our accomplishments and stories from another successful year that you helped make happen. Our community needs continue to change with the loss of family time due to busy schedules, healthy lifestyles becoming a struggle, and the continued growth of families in financial need. We persistently adapt to and respond to these needs in our community. Our strategy is to provide opportunities for families to live healthy by challenging their bodies and minds. By keeping our programs affordable, we are able to
provide every adult and child with the essentials to learn, grow and thrive. Last year alone, over 7,000 youth participated in swimming lessons, day camps, gymnastics, youth sports, dance classes, and Adventure Guides at the Rancho Family YMCA.
the continued opportunity to serve our community. We are thankful to all of you - our donors, volunteers, and staff as well as our members and community partners, all of whom enable our Y to make a real difference in the lives of so many.
We strive to change the lives of people in our community, lending a helping hand to those in need. Last year, over 60 volunteers contributed over 1,000 hours of their time all at the Rancho Family YMCA. During our Annual Campaign, we raised over $179,000 to ensure no family is turned away due to the inability to pay. We are incredibly grateful to you for your support, because without donors and volunteers this would not have been possible.
Sincerely,
We look forward to what the next year has in store and are humbled by

NEW FAMILY FIT PROGRAM We encourage families to get fit together. This year we introduced the FamilyFit Program that allows children ages 7-12 to work out in the Wellness Center, with a parent.
“As a single mother of two children, I have found it very difficult to prioritize my own health and wellness. My daughter has a disability, and I have spent an incredible amount of time taking her to and from appointments. Prior to our YMCA membership, we did not participate in any local community activities. Now we are all becoming more healthy by using the facilities in Rancho Peñasquitos. In the past 9 months, I have lost 40 pounds through diet and exercise. Jillian has shifted from physical therapy for her cerebral palsy as her main mode of exercise to weight training. And Westley simply enjoys lifting weights and has taking a liking to working out his abdominal region by using the captain’s chair.” -Cindy, Rancho Family YMCA Member 8
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY We open our doors to all and work every day to support those who need us most.

STORIES OF IMPACT WORKING TOGETHER TO ENRICH LIVES Dear Rancho YMCA Staff, On behalf of our family, we cannot thank you enough for assisting us this summer with Camp tuition for the Triplets and our monthly payment. Even before all this began we have been members of the Y for many years and have enjoyed everything from T-Ball, swimming lessons, and our favorite place...Child Watch and Parents Night Out! This has been a very difficult year dealing with Josh’s stage 5 kidney disease as we await testing for a kidney transplant. It unfortunately has been a bumpy road and last month Josh had a catheter placed for at home dialysis treatment. Although I work from home, it is the busiest time of the year for me in the summer and with no school, as well as various doctor appointments I just do not know how I would have managed without the Triplets attending camp. And there is no way we could have afforded it without the discount.
Thank you for caring about our family and an extra thank you to the generous donors! As well as to the staff for being such wonderful people in our kids lives. We Love Rancho YMCA! Angelina and Joshua, Members & part of the Rancho Y Family

Meet, Ann Marie Kay. Last year, at the age of 92 and accompanied by her five daughters, we had the opportunity to meet Ann. On hospice and with declining health, Ann’s daughters wanted to grant her three last wishes; to take a bath again, to swim in a pool, and to take a trip home to Michigan where she had spent 89 years to see her family (five daughters and grandchildren) one last time. All are wishes for simple things that we often don’t realize how much they mean to us until we can no longer do them. With the help of Hospice, Ann was able to take a bath again. Soaking, and relaxing in the tub, Ann was so happy! With Ann’s current fragile health condition, a trip to Michigan seemed impossible but her daughters forged ahead to make Ann’s other wish a reality- to swim in a pool again. This is when we met Ann. Here is Ann’s story... “On Monday, March 17th, 2014 (for my mother’s birthday March 12th), with all of her five daughters (from around the country) in tow, our mother’s wish came true. To see my mother’s face light up with joy was priceless. She was like a little kid again as she grabbed the wheelchair railing and walked up and down the ramp. She was able to float around for a little bit and truly enjoy one of the pleasures she had always loved, being in the water. I thought the only way to have my mother’s wishes come true was to apply for some type of senior make a wish program, and that only allows one wish. Through the Rancho Family YMCA and Elizabeth Hospice, two of the three wishes for my mother have been fulfilled.
We could not have asked for a better experience or for a more kind and generous group of people at the Rancho Family Y. Words truly do not express the gratitude and appreciation we all feel for the staff that made my mother’s wish a reality. We cannot thank them enough. I hope they know that it meant the world to our mother and to us. For that we will be forever grateful.” -Written by Lynn, Ann Marie’s daughter and part of the Rancho Y Family
