List, Roll, Layer: TIPS FOR

ith travel restrictions being lifted, more people than ever will be traveling this spring and summer. So we now have that never-ending travel conundrum … what to pack! To help you out here are a few tips we have learned over the years. Make a list. This is certainly not something that many of us want to do, but it is very helpful. Know what you are doing every day of your trip including travel days. Plan your outfits around those activities and see if the opportunity exists to wear some of the same items more than once. Rule of 3. This tip applies to shoes. Thoughtfully consider what you actually need. Most of us love our shoes and having choices, but when both space and weight are issues the rule of 3 must apply. Perhaps a pair of sandals, flats and heels will cover all your bases. Athletic shoes are also an option depending on what you are doing. Take advantage of hotel toiletries. Yes, we all have our favorite products but using what you are provided can definitely save space. Remember that hotels often provide blow dryers for guest use. Roll, roll and roll. Rolling is definitely the way to go when it comes to packing. Take all of your

recently ironed items and roll them as tightly as you can. Start with your heaviest items first and finish with your lighter items. Don’t forget about layers. Layering is your best friend when it comes to travel. Layer light knits with button up shirts and blouses. Modern fabrics are lightweight, comfortable and many are relatively wrinkle free. Using a shirt as a jacket, aka “shacket” is actually an item you will see in many stores.
Scarves. A great scarf can keep you warm on a chilly airplane and can also be used as an accessory item. Larger wraps known as shawls or ruanas are incredibly versatile. Look for items that can be worn in place of a jacket depending on the time of year. Now that you are packed and ready to go, don’t forget to enjoy your time away!
