RED BULL CLIFF DIVING WORLD SERIES
SPECIAL
THE PORT OF LA ROCHELLE ON MAY 8, 2009 – ALTHOUGH EVERY LITTLE SPACE WAS PACKED WITH 30,000 PEOPLE YOU COULD HEAR A PIN DROP EVERY TIME A DIVER LIFTED OFF THE PLATFORM. THREE SECONDS LATER, THEIR THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE AND CHEERS MADE THE AREA VIBRATE . SINCE THEN, THE FASCINATION OF CLIFF DIVING HAS SPREAD FROM THE BAY OF BISCAY ACROSS FIVE CONTINENTS AND 30 COUNTRIES IN 15 SEASONS.
2024 is a milestone year in the history of the Red Bull Cli Diving World Series, with this season’s second stop in Boston marking the 100th event in its history.
The vision of a passionate few became a global spectacle that captivates spectators all over the world.
In May 2009, nobody knew whether anyone would turn up to the first event in La Rochelle… more than 30,000 spectators came to see 12 daring men launch from what is probably still the most terrifying 27-metre platform in the World Series.
More than a hundred stops in 30 countries later, the list of athletes that have competed in the World Series has grown to over a hundred men and women from 25 nations.
Time and time again they achieve the unimaginable, break records and redefine the limits of human capability. They leave spectators speechless and fascinate fans and followers with their pure and aesthetic performances from almost three times the Olympic diving height.
We could fill countless books with stories of all the individual successes, and the growth and development of the World Series and the sport itself. Therefore, on the pages that follow we will simply honour the outstanding tour venues to date, and the exceptional athletes who have ignited their passion to pioneer a sport for future generations.
