Overview:
l
Over the course of seven years and four LP's, The Thermals have tackled religion, politics, and death with no small amount of passion and fervor. With their fifth LP, The Thermals have battled (and perhaps even conquered!) the deepest and darkest of all popular art themes- love. Not that The Thermals haven't sung/spoken/screamed about the wide range of emotions love produces and abuses. But never before have The Thermals devoted an entire LP to love, loss, and… lies! More than an album strictly about love, Personal Life is about relationships. It's about the concept of a connection between two people making it, breaking it, and faking it. Personal Life amounts to the indie-rock equivalent of a brilliant but ultimately doomed love affair. A beautiful, turbulent experience that will hopefully leave you wiser in the ways of love and life. Personal Life is something of retro-technical achievement. Producer Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, Tegan and Sara) recorded The Thermals the same way in which he produced their 2004 LP Fuckin' A. The band was recorded live (for the most part) to tape, and the album was mixed to tape as well. The sonic care Walla gave to Personal Life assures an enjoyable listen for audiophiles (the vinyl was mastered straight from tape) as well as for the rest of us who don't care and will be listening on shitty headphones and Radio Shack speakers.

Seminal rock band HELMET return September 7 with a new full-length album SEEING EYE DOG--their first since 2006’s critically acclaimed Monochrome—and will tour the U.S. immediately upon its release.
Marking their first release on the indie Work Song label, SEEING EYE DOG is the seventh album overall and was produced by band leader, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Page Hamilton, with additional production by Toshi Kasai and vocal production by Mark Renk. On songs that consistently cut deep, Hamilton’s guitar is on fire as always and his vocals are as wicked as ever. The album’s 10 tracks include the title cut, “Welcome To Algiers, ” White City,” the mostly instrumental “Morphing” and a cover of the Beatles’“And Your Bird Can Sing.” HAMILTON is joined by drummer KYLE STEVENSON, guitarist DAN BEEMAN and bassist CHRIS TRAYNOR; Helmet’s live bassist is DAVE CASE. “The Helmet musical vocabulary is well established at this point, but I continue to work on a variety of musical projects that inevitably influence the Helmet songs,” says PAGE. “I’ve been working on movies with Elliott Goldenthal and co. for 17 years now and had never really experimented with incorporating these soundscapes (or shit sculpting as I prefer to call it) into Helmet songs. We had a much better recording situation in which I felt much less time pressure and was working with an engineer who was patient and very creative (Toshi Kasai) so away we went. I started layering upper parts of the chords and was digging the sound so I went with it.” SEEING EYE DOG—as bracing as anything released by “a band that made important connections between indie-rock and metal…” (New York Times, September 12, 2004) The album is available on general release in 3 formats (see below), each of which will include a bonus live album recorded in San Francisco. --Digital Only (new album plus 1 live album) --Two-disc CD (new album plus 1 live album) --Limited Edition Double 180g Vinyl (New album plus 1 live album) HIGHLIGHTS: National and Tour Press: MSO Full radio servicing to Active Rock and Specialist stations. Jukebox the Ghost Everything Under The Sun National Release Date: CD: 09.07.2010
Jukebox the Ghost have passionate fans. Fans who’ve gone so far as to tattoo the band’s name on their body or drive for days to see their shows, or post lovesick monologues dedicated to their glory on YouTube. Through a dogged work ethic and near obsessive touring - headlining and alongside heavyweights like Ben Folds and Adam Green (The Moldy Peaches) - the band managed to sell over 10,000 copies of their debut album and cultivated the aforementioned rabid fan base. Now, with a fully developed sound and a songwriting and live performance approach seasoned by hundreds upon hundreds of gigs, the band are set to turn heads with sophomore effort Everything Under the Sun, produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National). The trio is looking to spread their gospel of hook-stuffed, melody rich pop to the world at large. Beatles and Brit pop influences abound on Everything and the band provides a nod to those influences with their attention to filling the album with great songs beginning to end, not building an album around just a few great tracks. In the words of Yep Roc Records co-founder Glenn Dicker, “Most records have three great songs, this one has 11.” Track Listing: 01. Schizophrenia

02. Half Crazy
08. Carrying
03. Empire

RETAIL: Demand for the new album will be high. The band has developed a very strong following and their fans will show their support by purchasing music. Throughout the summer we will be building the awareness for the new album by getting music out there and telling the story. Several showcases have been planned to bring our retail customers to see the band perform live. Several special promotions will be running to capitalize on the excitement including value adds, bonus content and college promotions. Contact your sales rep or mike@yeproc.com. RADIO: This record will do well at CMJ and the focus will be to build a story at more liberally programmed AAA stations. Stations and specialty shows will be stoked with "winit-before-you-buy-it" promotions the weekend before street date. We will strive to get performances at World Cafe, Sirius XMU/AltNation, Morning Becomes Eclectic and other notable nationally syndicated programs to maximize radio exposure. PRESS: With their last self released album, Jukebox the Ghost started quite a buzz. Getting rave reviews from local papers, blogs and NPR, they have laid the groundwork to push their sophomore effort into the limelight. With the release of Everything Under the Sun, independent publicists Shore Fire Media will shape stories around the band’s prolific song writing, their catchy pop songs and the high energy the band exudes on stage. They will be pushing to get features in major print and online publications, as well as NPR. TOUR: This band tours non-stop. After getting off of a co-headline tour with Astralwerks artist, Free Energy, the band will be playing Lollapalooza and then following up with a nation-wide headline tour around release date. They will also be playing CMJ music festival in October. ONLINE: A full online marketing campaign is being executed by Sneak Attack Media, which will target press on music destination sites, online entertainment sites and blogs. Promotions and contests are being done with blogs, social networks and lifestyle sites to increase the fan club participation for the band and help to spread the word of the new album. In addition to building widgets to collect names and engaging street team members, the Sneak Attack team will be virally servicing video content and mp3s to get the word out about the new release. VIDEO: We will have several viral videos that highlight the making of the record, their live show, and the band’s personality. These will be effective tools to send to media contacts and to spread virally to blogs and websites. We will also have a broadcast quality video for the single, Schizophrenia, which will we pitch to MTV, Fuse, VH1, and regional video outlets as well as lifestyle and music retail outlets. COLLEGE MARKETING: We will be working with Sneak Attack Media to target college campuses and get the students engaged in Jukebox the Ghost’s new album. They will be setting up regional and dorm listening parties and contests, creating school branded streaming Jukebox the Ghost media players, and reaching out to university papers and activity boards to get involved with the band on multiple levels KEY MARKETS: Baltimore, MD; New York, NY; Washington, DC; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Hartford-New Haven, CT; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Nashville,TN; OrlandoDaytona Bch-Mlbrne, FL Item number: CD-YEP-2224 SLP: $12.99 UPC: 634457222427 GENRE: Alternative PACKAGING: Digipak BOX LOT: 40 Item number: LP-YEP-2224 SLP: $17.99 UPC: 634457222410 GENRE: Alternative PACKAGING: Single sleeve LP BOX LOT: 20 *LP contains full album download card

LEZ ZEPPELIN
ALL GIRLS ALL ZEPPELIN
LEZ ZEPPELIN, the New York City-based all-girl band has
gained worldwide critical acclaim for the musicianship, passion and gender-bending audacity they bring to the music of Led Zeppelin. The band is now poised to release its second album: LEZ ZEPPELIN I, a she-incarnation of Led Zeppelin s 1969 debut. Of all Zeppelin s albums, I most intensely expresses that unique alchemy of light and shade, American blues and British folk and that inimitable sexual charge that would go on to define the band s mystique. LEZ ZEPPELIN, along with producers Perry Margouleff and William Wittman approached the first album with two main musical intentions: to remain true to the sounds and textures of the vinyl version of the record, and to capture Led Zeppelin s own unique tight-but-loose intensity in the moment.
To achieve the first, the band recorded at Pie Studios, a world class analog studio, where they employed all of the same vintage equipment used by Led in 1968 ‒ from the 50s era Les Paul and Telecaster, to the Supro amp, 60 s era compressor, Hammond organ and Tone-Bender stomp box. The group worked fastidiously on matching sounds and
textures in order to recreate the incredibly complex layers of the album with a dedication that has never before been demonstrated by any band of this type in the history of the rock world. As for the album s indefinable sexual charge, LEZ ZEPPELIN s sensuality lies in the revelation of four women passionately taking on the music of what is largely considered to be the most male of rock conglomerations, and in the surprising power and delicacy of the female counterpart, which illuminates a duality that is essential to Led, itself. Says rock critic and guitarist Lenny Kaye in the album s liner notes: They are the Other. The mirror image, gazing upon the fairest of all rock bands, refracting reflection into Blakean dualities of light become dark, devil or angel, good bad (but not evil). A turnabout and ultimate turn-on. From this well-spring of male, female and the mystery of all that lies therein, LEZ ZEPPELIN has delivered a performance that not only exceeds expectations, but serves as the authentic female counterpart to one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

National Release Date: CD: 09/07/2010
RETAIL Building awareness is the key to this campaign. We are servicing the glowing reviews in Q, Uncut, and MOJO to all levels of retail and have advance music available to hear early. A 12 inch release in July with remixes by Four Tet and Born Ruffians will introduce the band to the US market and bring people to the project. With the familiarity started with the 12 inch, we will work with independent retail and secure visibility and listening posts at stores in appropriate market with an extended focus on markets the band will be touring this Fall. In-store play copies and posters are available: contact your sales rep or mike@yeproc.com. RADIO Our main targets with this album will be CMJ and AAA. We are servicing the album and the remixes early to radio tastemakers such as KEXP, KCRW, etc. to build awareness. We will then reservice the full list of radio stations closer to street date. In-studios will be very important around tour dates to engage stations in the album and increase spins. There will also be an early showcase in July in NYC, where radio and media tastemakers will be able to preview the new album live. PRESS There was a great story with the band’s last album, which garnered them critical acclaim. The same is with this new record. We will be working with independent publicists Big Hassle and have already received key blog placements about the remix tracks from Four Tet and Born Ruffians. This is a great launching point for the campaign. The short term goal is to get a good buzz going with the digital and remix 12 inch release and send out assets (videos, remixes, etc.) to continue garnering interest from national and local publications. TOUR High Road Booking is currently securing a headline tour for September to support the physical release date. The tour will cover major markets on both the east and the west coast. They will also be touring into 2011 and plan on playing multiple shows at SXSW. ONLINE There will be an official music video that will be serviced to key national (MTV, VH1, Fuse, MTV2, MTV.com, MTVu, Music Choice, Fuel TV) and regional video outlets (Video Hits, JBTV, NY Noise, Video Jam, Power Play Music TV, Music Mix USA, R&R TV). There will also be a lot of viral video content which will be primarily used online. We will pitch key feature placement with the online video channels such as Yahoo Music, MySpace, YouTube, MTV.com, Paste Magazine and AOL Music.
After headline runs and bouts touring with critical darlings like Bowerbirds, Phosphorescent and Akron/Family, in the summer of 2009 Canadian quintet the Acorn retreated from two years on the road to an isolated cottage in northern Quebec to begin work on their third full-length album, No Ghost. Songs took shape at all hours, crafted from hazy late-night improvisations, early morning melodies pulled from the thinning threads of sleep. Modernity clashed with the bucolic via exploratory percussion, feedback, acoustic textures and the natural surrounding sounds. The band then traded trees for telephone poles to finish recording in a sweltering heat wave in Montreal. There, the breezy ease of rural surrounds was buried under sweat-caked skin and cracked asphalt, birdsong drowned out by thick air and engine hum. No Ghost is a recording swaddled in dichotomy: togetherness and isolation, acoustic and electric, destruction and restoration. While the title of Andreya Triana’s debut album suggests that she doesn’t know where she’s going or where she’s come from, few things could be further from the truth. Whether working with Flying Lotus, Theo Parrish, Mr Scruff or Bonobo, Triana has been herself and only herself. Of the title of the record she says “it's about still feeling lost even though you know what path you should be taking in life. It's also a song about keeping the faith despite it all!” Triana’s faith was rewarded when she met Simon Green aka Bonobo, who not only featured her on his “Black Sands” album but asked if he could produce her own record. The two of them fashioned the sound of her songs together in Simon's studio in East London, working with live musicians, both playing and using samples of found sounds to stitch together a soul music both timelessly classic and uerly contemporary. From the marimba-led longing of “Draw The Stars”, through the epic build of the title track, the odd fairground wooziness of “Daydreamers,” the relaxed funk of “Up In Fire” or the stillness of torch song ‘X,” “Lost Where I Belong” showcases a great voice, fantastic songwriting and superb production.

GENRE : AVANT ELECTRONIC FILE UNDER: “O” Oval Release Date: September 7, 2010 O is the first new Oval album in nearly a decade, a striking 70-track doubleCD (and double-LP) and the follow up to May’s sold-out Oh EP (Thrill 12.44) by electronic pioneer Markus Popp. Popp is often credited as the creator of what was later dubbed the “glitch” or “clicks & cuts” style. Popp’s mid-’90s albums Systemisch (Thrill-032) and 94Diskont (Thrill-036) took the world of electronic music and turned it on its head. He went on to create sound sculptures that were exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Now this genre defining artist is putting forth the musician that was hiding behind the technician. The result is a celebration in delicacy and detail: handcrafted polyrhythmic phrases, riffs and structures, bristling with tiny resonances. Named for a new beginning, (ground zero if you will), O is just that: fresh and new. (The EP title of Oh was a playful word game based around the album title.) Popp lives and works in Berlin. He took time off after his last release in 2003 under the moniker So, wanting this new material to be a radical departure from his old concepts and methods on all levels, to essentially be a new “debut” album. For O Popp’s creative process shares nothing with his creative process for prior Oval albums. Previously, Popp focused on the creation of the programs that would process sound and effectively create the music, a process that was more theoretical in nature. For O, Popp uses an instrument that is very common, a stock PC outfitted with stock sounds and plugins. He no longer uses or creates a custom platform, but instead utilizes a readily available instrument. Popp spent years woodshedding with his instrument and worked diligently to push the instrument beyond its normal sonic boundaries. What he has done with this instrument highlights Popp’s musicianship, perhaps for the first time. On the 2xCD version of O, Disc 1 features 20 relatively longer pieces that range from delicate, sophisticated pop to brutally torn, electro-acoustic riffing full of angular, colliding guitar sounds. All of the songs are peppered with expressive and open drumming. Disc 2 features 50 concise, highly detailed pieces that are a conscious nod to the culture of instant gratification. These tracks represent Popp’s personal challenge to create pieces within a constrained framework that addresses this aspect of music culture. Popp has even referred to these pieces as ringtones. These one-minute tracks have a melodic finesse and associative power that are unexpected under such constraints and are ripe for future sampling projects. For the 2xLP, the first 20 tracks from CD1 are spread out over Sides A - C, and Side D features 6 Vinyl-only bonus tracks. The vinyl version includes a coupon to download all songs on the vinyl, plus the 50 tracks from CD2, 76 tracks in all. The CD and LP covers will come in four different-colored editions.

Boredoms
77 Boa Drum Thrill - 250 DVD $22.99 BOX LOT DVD : 40
*90377-ACFAJf
GENRE : ROCK FILE UNDER: “B” Boredoms
Release Date: September 7, 2010 On July 7th, 2007 at 7:07 PM, Japanese group Boredoms, orchestrated a performance by 77 drummers at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn, NY. Nearly three years later, the experience is finally making its way to DVD. 77 Boa Drum is the official live performance documentary of the event, complete with behind the scenes rehearsal footage, interviews, and of course, lots of footage of the actual performance. The momentous event was filmed by Jun Kawaguchi and his crew, web-TV sites like VBS TV, Viva-Radio, and several unknown You Tube cameramen. Kawaguchi, a big fan of Boredoms, had spent a decade chronicling the band’s live performances and the 77 Boa Drum concert was no different. After editing his footage together with live footage captured and posted on You Tube, the 89 minute documentary was born. BOREDOMS HISTORY There may be no other band in the world that has traced a path quite like Japan’s Boredoms. Across nearly 20 years, founder and leader Eye Yamataka, along with frequent collaborator Yoshimi, has taken the band on a cosmic road trip, from the early swamps of chaos through times of tribal frenzy, oceanic tranquility, and massive sonic constructions. Perhaps most remarkable is the unceasing commitment to vision above all else, and the effects of that commitment. The influence of Boredoms in underground, experimental, noise, and performance-based music cannot be overstated. The early Boredoms seemingly harnessed that chaotic energy and began melding it into a No Wave-influenced rock format. The first release under the name Boredoms appeared in 1986. The frenetic, maniacal live show cemented their reputation. The incredible rhythmic power, clever melodic punches, and sheer chaotic intensity allowed the band to play off each other in ways that had perhaps never been heard or seen before. The result was both well-earned rising popularity and something unheard of: a major label deal, in Japan, for an incorrigibly independent band that demanded full control. Outside Japan, Boredoms have made their mark as well. From their associations with bands like Sonic Youth to their explosive tours through the U.S. and Europe, Boredoms were partially responsible for opening the eyes of listeners in this country to the possibilities of the Japanese music scene. After the release of Chocolate Synthesizer, the Boredoms began to evolve away from the chaos-rock of their past. 1998’s Super Ae evoked tribal rhythms as well as electronicized krautrock – a trance-inducing set of songs filled with tribal elements. In their Super Roots series of records (1993-1999), Boredoms expanded their ideal of ecstatic, thunderous, repetitive music, steeped in power rock, electronic rhythms, and psychedelic incantations. At the time, Eye also became more involved in DJing and dabbling in Japan’s rave culture, resulting in the Rebore series of Boredoms remix EPs. After a prolonged absence, their record Seadrum/House of Sun was finally released in 2005. In 2007, they released their first live album Super Roots 9 (released on Thrill Jockey in the U.S. in 2008) and made an already legendary BOADRUM show with 77 drummers become reality. 2008 saw the continuation of the series with two simultaneous 88 BOADRUM shows taking place in both New York and Los Angeles. A series of Boa Drum 9 shows throughout 2009 were also hailed as some of the best performances of the festivals where these unique events took place. After nearly two decades of noise, chaos, tribal experimentation, remixing, transinducing feats of rhythmic intensity, lineup changes, continued collaborations, and doing what they want regardless of trends and fashion, Boredoms continue, and remain as vital as ever.

GENRE : ELECTRONIC / EXPERIMENTAL FILE UNDER: “P” Prekop “S” Sea and Cake, The Sam Prekop is known to most as the singer and songwriter of The Sea and Cake. He is a painter of some renown, a photographer and in addition he has released two solo albums of pop songs infused with his own blend of African and Brazilian guitar rhythms. Old Punch Card, his first solo effort since 2005, takes a dramatically unexpected turn away from either of these paths. Prekop described the move thus, “I’d have to say this record is pretty much unlike anything else I’ve done. There’s some relation to music I made for my book Photographs but really only in instrumentation. The intro to The Sea and Cake’s David Bowie cover of “Sound and Vision”, on One Bedroom is an early precedent. The most significant difference, is that I’ve left the confines of ‘song’ structure.”
Release Date: September 7, 2010 TRACK LISTING: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
The LP and CD each come in an edition of hand painted covers. “In painting the covers I found an appropriate shorthand to describing the music or reimagining it. Start with nothing and without deduction an image appears reflecting only itself, the music arrived similarly.” said Prekop. Taking inspiration from early music concrete and electronic music, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Nuno Canavarro, Raymond Scott, David Behrman, and free improvisation, Old Punch Card is a beautifully noisy, jagged yet stately album of synthesizer music. The ideas and implementation of Old Punch Card (the album title alluding to the electronic, faintly mechanic origins of the music) were the result of an entirely new challenge: to do something completely different from anything else he’s ever created. To facilitate this end, Prekop implemented a series of strict guidelines for the recording of the album. No vocals, no guitar (though he slipped in this regard on one track), and no beats. Most of the sound material is generated by a modular synthesizer. By its very nature, it excels at some things and not at others. It’s very difficult to play a conventional chord, while on the other hand, it excels at creating completely unanticipated sounds and is rather effective when it comes to “chance” composing strategies. The album was recorded entirely in Prekop’s home studio and monitored on headphones, allowing him to focus on the texture and dynamic of the music. Every nuance was hyper exposed and therefore had to be considered. All of the pieces were recorded between February 2009 and March 2010 but the bulk of the material was recorded in the last three winter months. The end result is a record of strangely serene beauty, leading the listener down a myriad of otherworldly paths, all the while serving as a unique path for the musician himself. Sam Prekop will be on tour this fall with The Sea and Cake. The band will be touring the US extensively with Broken Social Scene, whose new album features a song with vocal and guitar contributions from Prekop.

ON THE FLOOR “There is absolutely no doubt that a young North Carolina hepcat named Matt Hill is doing just exactly what he was cut out to do in his life... and that’s storm on stage, grab his small Danelectro guitar, throw the switch and slam some of that good ol’ down home devil’s music, the blues, and rock ‘em on down for all he’s worth. This Greensboro-based blues artist is not only a fierce performer but also is one of the hottest, most talked about and most overwhelming stage personalities there is, any-damn-where. ... Hill will go into his ritualistic finale where he pleads and begs the audience and metamorphs into his Ernest Angley fire-and-brimstone floor exercise, usually pouncing onto a chair or table, or will low crawl along with his guitar moaning, winding up in the fetal position while the crowd is making a hasty decision on whether to flip, flop or fly and look around to see if anyone else is worried, too...” — Mike “the Nighthawk” Floyd, Borderline “I believe that this CD will soon be known as Matt Hill’s breakout, and you’ll re-read these liner notes and smile “I knew it too!” Will Matt really rise to the top from On The Floor? I think so, because he has the showmanship, the voice, the guitar playing, the songs -- the magnetic energy to be today’s Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll star. With his band, The Buzzkillz, and featured on my shows, he drives audiences crazy. A stage can’t contain him, he raves from the floor, carrying on the “whatever it takes” boundless stage antics of our recently-departed musical hero, Nappy Brown.“ — Bob Margolin, from the liner notes HIGHLIGHTS: • Produced by Bob Margolin and Dave Gross • Special guest Bob Margolin on “Why the F**k” • Servicing Blues and Specialty Radio • Print and Online advertising in Blues Revue, BluesWax, etc.

“Territory” is the follow up to the Charlottetown band’s Polaris Prize nominated and internationally acclaimed sophomore album, "Little Jabs". Once again produced by Joel Plaskett, Territory builds on the promise of Little Jabs as the band continues to write and record sunny pop gems for the heart and head. Territory, however also finds Two Hours Traffic discovering the shadows at the side of the road. Right from the get go this becomes apparent as the gold into lead alchemy of the rousing opener Noisemaker kicks in and by the time the title track tells its tale of disillusionment and betrayal you know you are settling in for a drive on the darker side. Indeed, songs such as Weightless One, Drop Alcohol, Wicked Side, and Lost Boys all explore the approaching dusk but just like the more hopeful tracks on the album (Happiness Burns, Sing A Little Hymn) they all lock into the close your eyes, sing along choruses and instantly memorable lyrics that have put Two Hours Traffic on the melodic map. Initially conceived as a two-piece, lead singer Liam Corcoran and guitarist Alec O'Hanley recruited bassist Andrew MacDonald and drummer Derek Ellis while attending university in their hometown of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. After releasing their "April Storm" EP in 2003 a friendship was struck up with Halifax hero Joel Plaskett who offered to produce the band's first proper album. They've been working together ever since. While their eponymous debut and their follow up "Isolator" EP were received warmly by critics, it wasn't until 2007's breakthrough "Little Jabs" that the world really took notice. Appearing on dozens of year-end best of lists, Little Jabs also garnered an ECMA for Best Pop Recording and was a finalist for the coveted Polaris Music Prize. Add to this, three coast to coast tours, appearances at festivals such as Hillside, CMJ and SXSW and shows across the Atlantic and you have one of the most visible and successful Canadian independent acts of the last two years. The road is indeed calling once again and with the strength of song on their side, Two Hours Traffic will continue to drive through both the brightening dawn and the darkening dusk. Bringing their Territory to yours. www.twohourstraffic.com

After playing for over a decade with the Three 4 Tens and a brief stint with Himalaya, Joe Tagg launched his new solo project: Solaram. He teamed up with members of the Three 4 Tens, Himalaya and The Asteroid #4, and with other musicians formed the “recording group”. For touring he has enlisted the talents of friends Pete Rydberg, J. Laughlin and Shawn Kilroy to make up the core line-up that is the “live group” who played at SXSW 2010. Tagg describes Solaram as having a “thought-inducing” sound, but heavier than anything he has done in the past. In the same spirit as his musical influences, whether from the solid rock dynasties (Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who) or the heavy space bards of the 90s (The Pixies, Spacemen 3, Stone Roses, Spiritualized), Solaram can ooze shoegazer appeal or rock heavy. “When She Falls” and “Precious Time” are lush, misty – think Stone Roses and Teardrop Explodes, with The Byrdsian guitars. This album has such a broad spectrum of sounds that one can hear garage rock, shoegazer, and even the Grateful Dead.

STLS is two women performing drums – just drums. Lisa Schonberg (Explode into Colors, Kickball) and sts (The Haggard, Cadallaca) play standing up, facing each other, on two drum sets. Their sound is huge and their syncopations are rhythmically energizing and entrancing. Their drumming utilizes the tones and textures of the drums to play melodic patterns that recreate the dynamic structure of a typical pop song. The band was born out of an invitation by a friend to come to NYC and perform entirely percussion-based shows. STLS played their first shows at the Art Book Fair at PS 1 and at an art installation by Fritz Haeg, and have since continued to perform in interesting and unexpected settings, as well as the usual venues, in the Northwest, California, and NYC, often collaborating in performance with dancer Janet Pants. They will be touring the west coast in September with Grass Widow in support of their upcoming 7-inch on KRS.

Rickolus CIS1023: YOUNGSTER Rickolus is Richard Colado, a Jacksonville, Fla. based multi-instrumentalist. Touching base with his earliest childhood memories, Rickolus’ debut album, “Youngster”, is sure to elicit a youthful inclination. With playful melodies, blitheful lyrics and an airy personality, this record plays homage to Colado's youth gone by. Not interested in making a generalized album about youth, Youngster is a much more personal and revealing foray, realizing that link to times past through nostalgia.

Evan Caminiti West Winds TLR-082 LP w/download
$20.99
Vinyl is non-returnable
Release Date: September 7, 2010
+EEBIF-AGGJId Evan Caminiti is a guitarist full of big ideas and even bigger sounds. Currently known as one-half of the San Francisco Bay area avant droners Barn Owl, Caminiti has spent a great deal of time the past few years playing and recording gorgeous solo explorations focused primarily on the guitar, but, when need be, accented by additional instrumentation. Following several prior releases, Caminiti’s abilities have been honed to the razor sharp point of his new LP, West Winds. Three Lobed Recordings is proud to present this album, Caminiti’s most mature and meditative to date. West Winds is a discourse on solitude and cosmic exploration set primarily to an open tuned guitar. It is a logical successor to Caminiti’s strong, large(r) scale solo debut, Psychic Mud Shrine (Digitalis, 2009) and calls to mind Roy Montgomery, “Hex”-era Earth and Popul Vuh. The album is the result of Caminiti’s six-month long focus on each song’s form and musical composition. Over that span of time, Caminiti assembled and came to know each song intimately, constructing a series of strong structural bases. That knowledge permitted him to record the final takes accentuated by numerous potent improvisational flourishes as heard on West Winds. This long-form approach of adding chaotic, off-the-cuff elements to such long-crafted tracks is basically the opposite approach to that which is used within the context of Barn Owl. Through its contemplative tone, West Winds is the perfect soundtrack to your next night alone in the literal or figurative desert. The album opens with the bold and transcendent “Night Of The Archon.” Caminiti coaxes a sustained wash of shimmering tones from his guitar that conjure the impression of heat illusions appearing just over the horizon on a long, straight, and otherwise abandoned road in the dead heat of summer. Hazy and dreamlike, “Night…” magically helps the listener lose track of time and space, and its close to nine-minute running time seems like mere moments slipping through the hourglass. Once fully established, this hypnotic tone and mood is so pervasive throughout West Winds - from the piano accents that punctuate “Westward Sun” to the desolate and lonely echoes of “Dust” – that the listener certainly does not have to listen too hard to tell that Caminiti has generated a full and complete thematic exploration that is undoubtedly cut from whole cloth. “Black Desert Blooming” soundly closes the album in a din of bowed guitar that slowly gives way to sparse, understated notes. Evan Caminiti’s West Winds is a bold and cohesive statement from a young artist already capable of recording greatness.

Hans Chew Tennessee & Other Stories... TLR-085 Gatefold LP w/download
$17.99
Vinyl is non-returnable
Release Date: Sept 7, 2010
+EHBAI-AHCBJb Three Lobed Recordings and Divide By Zero Records are extremely excited to be involved with the release of Tennessee & Other Stories…, Hans Chew’s debut solo album. While Chew is best known as the honky-tonk pianist and auxiliary vocalist behind Brooklyn’s psychedelic Americana outfit D. Charles Speer & the Helix (including his lead vocal turns on both “Life Insurance” off Distillation, and “Bar-Abbas Blues” off the “In Madagascar” 7”), his skill as a piano player has also previously been on prominent display in support to both Jack Rose (appearing on both The Black Dirt Sessions and Luck In The Valley, as well as contributing as a member of Jack’s live band at Arthurdesh in 2009) and Oakley Hall. Chew’s playing and skill have thrived during his time living in New York City, but prior to his move he spent several years of musical gestation honing his skills as a piano player in residence at Atlanta’s infamous Clermont Hotel. Tennessee & Other Stories… was born out of that residency where many of these songs were written there in the middle of the night in a dingy third-floor hotel room. For Chew Tennessee & Other Stories… is the culmination of many paths leading out of the wilderness. Like how the waning South of old has given way to the new, his tale is a coming-of-age-story starting with narrowly averted self-destruction and concluding in a painful resurrection. This theme is woven musically and thematically throughout Tennessee & Other Stories… as Chew pays homage to his Southern beginnings, a lineage that includes tobacco farmers and Methodists, bluegrass musicians and evangelists, gamblers and alcoholics. Chew’s skill as a multi-instrumentalist (he takes the reigns on most of the playing on the entire album) adds tremendous intimacy to his ability to fully relay the album’s stories with a singular voice. Chew is supported on selected tracks by a stellar cast of players, including some of his past and/or present band mates in D. Charles Speer & the Helix, such as Dave Shuford (No Neck Blues Band, Enos Slaughter), Marc Orleans (Sunburned Hand of the Man, Enos Slaughter) and Jason Meagher (No Neck Blues Band, Coach Fingers). Meagher also doubled time as the album’s engineer at his own Black Dirt Studio. Tennessee & Other Stories… was mixed by Clint Steele and mastered by Glenn Schick Mastering. The “Tenneessee Trilogy” – “Old Monteagle & Muscadine,” “Carry Me Bury Me,” and “I Would There Was A Train” – start Tennessee & Other Stories… off with a bang and quickly immerse the listener into the album’s dark and introspective mood. This trio firmly focuses on death and rebirth and provides a backward glimpse into the narrator’s life left behind in the Old South set to a soundtrack of acoustic and electric guitars, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin and organ. Piano is the album’s instrument of choice and numbers like “New Cypress Grove Boogie” and “Forever Again” both demonstrate the deep attraction and magic that drew Chew, like so many previous practitioners, to the eighty-eights. Both of these tracks demonstrate Chew’s talents within two of multiple schools of piano boogie. “Forever Again” utilizes a Tulsaoriented piano-funk as the central basis of its gospel-blues choral promise of death, while “New Cypress Grove Boogie” serves up more of a New Orleans styled jaunt. While Tennessee & Other Stories… as a whole demonstrates Chew’s formidable songwriting skills, the album also offers listeners a singular cover: the Tim Rose penned “Long Time Man,” here presented as a darkly Southern Gothic re-interpretation of Nick Cave’s arrangement. Tennessee & Other Stories… is an extremely strong and confident record from start to finish, one that establishes Hans Chew as both a unique addition to and significant voice within America’s current outsider scene.

Heavy Winged Fields Within Fields TLR-078 LP w/download
$20.99
Vinyl is non-returnable
Release Date: September 7, 2010
They’re back. Heavy Winged has continued to stretch their leathery, scarred, er, wings and grow since their last release for Three Lobed Recordings, 2008’s Alive In My Mouth. From that time to the present the group has ventured to release three complete albums (Spreading Center, Shaking, Waking and The Thinner The Air), and a full-length collaboration with Inca Ore, each displaying a few additional wrinkles to Heavy Winged’s sonic palette. While these additions to the band’s distorto-electro-bombast may be most apparent to those who have closely tracked their total output, Fields Within Fields, their latest and, all hyperbole aside, greatest album to date, displays the band’s grand developments in a fashion apparent to even casual outside observer. Every great band has that one totally assured statement album. For Heavy Winged, it is Fields Within Fields. The band was determined to make Fields Within Fields into a significant part of their discography from the very outset. In October 2009, the band decided to enter the 5D Studios in Brooklyn to engage in what would be a first-time experiment - recording in a multi-track studio with overdubs planned from the session’s start. Prior to this experience the band’s entire catalog was centered on displaying their ferocious live spirit. Having already proven themselves to be adept at creating grand and heavy statements in an improvised, one-take-only setting, they felt that were ready for the challenge of being both improvisational and composition-minded. The band hunkered down for the session and even brought in some friends to help augment the Heavy Winged vibe. Their time in 5D yielded the two dark fruits which combine to form Fields Within Fields. Brutal and hard, “Among The Maori” leads the album off and encompasses the entire first side of vinyl. The track opens with a slow, deliberate fade into Jed Bindeman’s (Eternal Tapestry, Jackie-O Motherfucker) tribal drumbeat. This beat may start controlled but the track’s velocity and volume continue to accelerate, eventually turning “Among The Maori” into a highly tuned jet engine. Ryan Hebert’s guitar playing is exceptional throughout, beginning with an initial prolonged banshee-like wailing and slowly building and fully giving way to a fantastically cranking and grinding postmetallic din by the track’s conclusion. “Among The Maori” stands out among the band’s entire catalog as perhaps their truest moment. The album’s second side is fully dedicated to the drone doom opus “The Hum Of The Universe.” “The Hum...” adds Bob Jones on viola to the band’s three piece lineup. The results of this pairing are epic and haunting. Jones’ viola couples nicely with Brady Sansone’s low-end work to create a churning sound vortex that will pull you in and release you only when the stylus reaches the run-out groove. Fields Within Fields is a powerful and assured statement, one that strongly rings “death to the new flesh - long live Heavy Winged’s drone!”

NEW RELEASES FOR 7th SEPTEMBER 2010
TERROR DANJAH / DOK FT TERROR DANJAH —Bruzin VIP / Hysteria
FORMAT - 12” LABEL - Hyperdub UPC - 5055300303271 CATALOG # - HDB037 LIST PRICE - $11.99 Terror Danjah is currently putting the finishing touches to a new album for Hyperdub, while at the same time plotting total club takeover with his own soon-to-be-revealed la-bel. This is his second single on Hyperdub, after the mighty pairing of ‘Acid’ and ‘Pro Plus’ earlier this year. These two tracks are packed full of energy and fresh ideas. ‘Bruzin VIP’ transforms the melodic serious grime of the original take, chopping and cutting the melody line up into epileptic staccato edits which give the track a shuddering, stuttering quality as if con-stantly on the brink of falling apart. ‘Hysteria’ is something else entirely; unexpectedly front-loaded with exuberant hi energy chords, the track breaks down into slip-sliding G-Funk synths, accented with what sounds like a vocal stolen from an early Nintendo game, before shifting the energy up again. It’s a track that’s determined to keep dancers in a permanent state of joy from the moment it starts.
PETER HAMMILL —Clutch
FORMAT - CD LABEL - FIE Static UPC - 5023522912724 CATALOG # - FIE9127CD LIST PRICE - CD—$15.99 This is the forty-seventh album that Peter has recorded. There’s always some difference in attitude, ap-proach and style as he has gone from one to the next. This time he has restricted himself to writing and playing exclusively on acoustic guitar. It was on this instrument that he began writing songs over 40 years ago, so this meant something of a return to first principles. It was also a project of interesting and challenging discipline. This is not, though, a simple acoustic record. The guitars are layered and there are also outstanding sonic contribtuions from Stuart Gordon on violin and viola and David Jackson on sax and flute. There are backing vocals in places but in general the lead voice is centre stage. The songs are at the serious end of the spectrum, this is not a folk album.
PETER HAMMILL —Margin
FORMAT - 2CD LABEL - FIE Static UPC - 5024545182422 CATALOG # - FIE9125CD LIST PRICE - 2CD—$23.99 This is a re-release of the 1980s live album. CD1 is the original (2LP) album, complete except for one track, "the second hand". These tracks have all been remastered by PH. CD2 consists of "recovered" live tracks (along the same lines as the extra tracks on the recent Van der Graaf Generator box set.) These songs show a much more urgent and aggressive side to the k group than that exhibited on the more concert-like performances of the original album. The period was the only one in which Peter worked with a conventional 2 guitar, bass, drums line-up...though the music still remains somewhat unconventional! The re-release of this material has been eagerly awaited by Peter's fans.

Bio: On March 11th, 2010, Great Big Sea celebrated their 17th birthday as a band. Like almost all of their many anniversaries spent together, they celebrated by playing a concert, this one in Omaha, Nebraska. For the players it was an important landmark, but for the fans, some of whom had travelled hundreds of miles, it was a chance to spend a night with a band that has come to define the energetic spirit of Newfoundland. On July 13, 2010 they released their tenth full length album, Safe Upon The Shore which contains their signature blend of folk and pop. 5% discount on the entire catalogue: • • • • • • •

Wintersleep's fourth album, New Inheritors, follows the immense success of Welcome to the Night Sky, an album that garnered the band much critical acclaim and popular attention, securing them the 2008 Juno Award for New Group of the Year, as well as video awards for the single, "Weighty Ghost". The dreamy, tone-drenched pop architecture of the songs on New Inheritors was born on the road as the band spent the past 2+ years touring across Canada, the USA and Europe. Produced by Tony Doogan (whose credits include the last Wintersleep as well as Mogwai and Belle and Sebastian) the album has been hailed as “one of the most fearless rock albums of the year”.

The Harvey Girls C I S 1 0 2 1 : I ' V E B E E N WAT C H I N G A L O T O F H O R R O R M O V I E S L AT E LY Melissa Rodenbeek and Hiram Lucke of The Harvey Girls are a brilliantly eccentric husband-and-wife psych-pop band from Portland, Oregon. Their latest album I've Been Watching a Lot of Horror Movies Lately from Portland-based label Circle Into Square introduces songs created by live looping analog instruments (guitar, floor tom, keyboard, theremin) in real-time with the aid of a Boss RC-20 pedal. This intuitive, organic process of layer-on-layer creation results in a familiar but singular sound. Recorded by Hiram at the couple's house over a 6 month period of painstaking effort, the album is a stunningly eclectic mix of songs typical of the band's off-kilter writing style. From the opening track "The Body Without Any Eyes" upbeat gospel sound to the epic and surreal closing track "Alpha Invasion on Delta Waves (Lullabye of Brueghel)" the songs incorporate alternately-tuned folk guitars, real and programmed drums, field recordings, intricate vocal harmonies, metal pipes, and cheap synths--sometimes in stark contrast and sometimes as a wash of sound. Musically, imagine Jandek crossed with Miley Cyrus chanting "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" while awaiting the arrival of the Old Ones. This has nothing to do with The Harvey Girls' album--we just

Imagery from classic and modern horror movies informs lyrics starring the specter that right wing shitheads fear most: the recent immigrant. These are songs that sound like a sunny day with lyrics written by Clive Barker, Richard Matheson, or Neil Gaiman.
