Hauw Santosa dreamed of bringing the beauty of Versailles to Indonesia. As he was attending university in Delft, Holland, Hauw had the opportunity to explore European cities and landmarks. The mesmerizing beauty of the Versailles Palace and other architectural marvels in Milan, Prague, and Paris left an unforgettable imprint in Hauw’s heart, sparking his passion for the renaissance architecture and design.
Hauw noticed that all European palaces have one thing in common, extravagant chandeliers made of crystal hanging from the ceilings. Historically, these sparkling crystal chandeliers are the epitome of beauty, elegance, and luxury. Inspired by these intricate works of art and what the culture they represent, Hauw returned to Indonesia with one goal in mind, to spread the beauty of crystal chandeliers at home, Indonesia.
Hauw’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident from a very young age. Growing up in a working-class family, he displayed a keen interest in business and an insatiable curiosity for global trends. His unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of his dreams propelled him towards a path of success. While attending university, he would work multiple part-time jobs to make ends meet.
At one point, he worked as an Indonesian food importer that supplied Indonesian goods to the Indonesian embassies in Holland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. As payment, Hauw accepted a unique currency “Bohemian Crystal” instead of dollar or Czech Chrone. Hauw would then hand-carry these Bohemian Crystal ornaments and chandeliers back home to Indonesia where eager customers are waiting.
Who knew at the time that this small business would turn into his biggest blessing.
From there, his crystal clear path to success continued as the demand for more Bohemian crystal skyrocketed among the Indonesian elite. Hauw assisted private buyers from Indonesia in purchasing crystal in the Czech Republic, before eventually spreading his network to become the exclusive agent for Indonesia. During his early days, a notable mentor of Hauw was one Dr. František Arnošt, a world-renowned crystal expert and government advisor for the crystal industry in the Czech Republic. Through his mentorship with Dr. Arnošt, Hauw gained an unparalleled level of expertise about the crystal industry. He also acquired knowledge directly from the most famous crystal company in the world, Swarovski in Austria. Hauw has traveled over 70 times, back and forth, to and from the Czech Republic up until 2009.
With a clear vision in mind, Hauw Santosa founded Plaza Crystal International, a renowned one stop galery for crystal, furniture & design, conglomerate known for its unmatched quality, variety, and lavish shopping experience.
Kempinski Jakarta was one of his first Hotel Project and follow after with others hundreds of Luxury hotels in Indonesia and other countries : InterContinental, Four Seasons, The St. Regis, Rafles, Marriott and many others.

Currently, Plaza Crystal has been operating for over 28 years. The children’s early exposure to Plaza Crystal fostered a deep connection and familiarity with the business.
As the children grew up, Plaza Crystal became their playground. Hauw looks back on the time the kids would spend countless of hours exploring the grand halls, experiencing the enchantment of crystals, and even falling asleep amidst the sparkling beauty. These cherished memories forged a unique bond with the family business.
The first born, Fidela Santosa, inspired by the splendour of Plaza Crystal, pursued a career in interior design. Drawing on their innate creativity and knowledge of crystals, Fidela, now actively contributes to the family business as Director of Projects, infusing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
Hauw Santosa amidst this lifestyle of glamor still puts importance to health. He instills healthy habits such as morning walks with his friends three times a week at Gelora Bung Karno. On a typical day, he tends to work duties at Plaza Crystal and carries out prospective meetings for various projects. His hobby includes his favorite sport, Badminton, and has even had the chance to play in Holland and won some tournaments. He takes pride in his simple life which continues to make him happy and youthful.
Hauw Santosa has five life mottos he lives by: he only does things he can do best, only focus on things he loves the most, on things that make him a better person, only cares things that can be a blessing to others, and things that create a positive output or profit in business.
Hauw Santosa’s journey from a budding entrepreneur to the owner of Plaza Crystal International is a testament to his dedication, innovative mindset, and drive for creating exceptional experiences. Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, the 26-year-old humanitarian organization dedicated to building decent homes for low-income Indonesian families, held its 10th Habitat Charity Golf Tournament since 2010 on 24 May 2023. Through the 1 flight-1 house program, around 80 golfers divided into 4-man flights/ teams to compete and simultaneously donate to build 1 decent house each. From noon to evening, over 1 billion funds were collected from the event and a prize auction during dinner, all which will be used to build 20 livable houses in 3 pre-determined Habitat clusters: Sentul Bogor, Kulon Progo-Yogyakarta, and Wringinanom-Gresik.

While in university, Peter’s interest in art continued to
grow. It was during this time that he embarked on creating his first-ever artwork, Redmiller Blood. This piece, which would become a representation of humanity itself, marked a pivotal moment in his artistic journey. Redmiller Blood encapsulates the essence of humans and individuals in relation to the vast universe.
The character Redmiller Blood delves into the complexities of the human experience by looking around Peter Rhian’s surroundings including his family, his students, and even himself. Through the use of symbolism, Peter employs an icon that has red hair and is built with a small and friendly frame. Redmiller itself represents humans in our features and many psychological aspects. Those who are perceived as brave, lovable, and accepted by society are also struggling internally. Redmiller Blood is actually a reflection of Peter himself and many of us, which is in fact, deep inside, extremely fragile, in denial, insecure and sometimes feel rejected. However the eyes of Redmiller are what he calls rainbow tears —a representation of teary eyes that have the colors of a rainbow— to convey the notion of our mental health being all over the place and as a reminder that as long as we keep our hope and faith in ourselves while struggling through the worst of times, eventually all problems will have a beautiful ending.
Additionally, the pout-shaped mouth serves as a metaphor for the daily existence of humans, highlighting the delicate balance between happiness, sadness, and a myriad of other emotions.
Peter’s artistic process is characterized by extensive research, involving thorough
exploration of online media and social constructs. Each painting undergoes numerous sketches, sometimes reaching hundreds, as he strives to achieve the desired flow and visual aesthetic.

Arkiv Vilmansa, the Indonesian artist known for his vibrant and imaginative paintings, has captivated audiences worldwide with his unique artistic style. Born with an innate passion for creativity, Arkiv’s journey as an artist began in an unexpected way.
During his kindergarten years, while his peers were busy drawing stereotypical views like rice fields, birds, and mountains, Arkiv found himself compelled to draw robots. It was in that moment,
as his mother later recounted, that Arkiv discovered his instinctive talent and realized he could become an artist.
Arkiv’s artistic inclination extended beyond the realm of visual arts. He developed a profound interest in fashion, becoming a true enthusiast of style and design. But his academic pursuits led him down a different path, and he graduated as an architect. Undeterred by this diversion, Arkiv embarked on a self-taught journey to explore and expand his creative horizons.
When contemplating his creative process, Arkiv emphasizes that it is always present in his thoughts, triggered by the things he loves. His inspiration springs from various sources, including his interactions with his children and the wonders of everyday life. He begins by sketching his ideas on paper, which he later refines digitally. Consultation with his team follows, leading to a meticulous decision-making process regarding which sketches will be transformed into paintings.
Colors play a pivotal role in Arkiv’s work, reflecting his own experiences and outlook on life. For him, everyday life is an amalgamation of vibrant hues, and he embraces this perspective wholeheartedly.
Although he didn’t graduate from an academic field of study focused on color, he believes that colors possess great significance. They not only bring personal meaning to his paintings but also serve as a means to depict various subjects with technical precision.
Since young, cartoons have been a constant source of inspiration for Arkiv – filling him with happiness, fulfillment, and wonder. So, it was no surprise that he invokes so much of Mickey Mouse into his artwork. Emerging as his role model, Mickey Mouse inspired him to infuse his work
with joy and cheerfulness. Cartoons have remained an integral part of his life, and he has even created his own characters such as Domma and Rabbiv, paying homage to the source of his inspiration.
Arkiv’s passion for art was further fueled by his background in architecture. Witnessing the creative journey of both architecture and cartoons, he recognized a new path that lay before him—painting. In his artistic development, graphic design played a crucial role, as he honed his skills with software like CorelDRAW during his high school years.
In recent years, Arkiv has introduced a groundbreaking process called Woundercoat. This technology, which took two years to develop, renders his paintings waterproof, enabling collectors to easily maintain their cherished pieces. With a simple brush or a damp cloth, any dirt or dust can be effortlessly removed, ensuring the longevity and preservation of his artwork.
Since 2010, Arkiv has been actively painting, and in 2011 in Philadelphia, he held his first solo show. He deliberately chose cartoons as his subject matter, recognizing their universal appeal in bringing happiness to people across the globe. His artwork has been met with tremendous enthusiasm and acceptance on an international scale.
When it comes to his artistic influences, Arkiv finds inspiration in the works of Andy Warhol and Takashi Murakami. He admires their masterful use of color and technique, which indirectly informs his own creative process and style.
In a remarkable collaboration, Arkiv was contacted by an executive advisor from Bathing Ape (BAPE) in Hong Kong in 2021. As a long-time fan of BAPE, dating back to their collaboration with Pepsi in 2001, this opportunity was a dream come true for him. BAPE’s visually striking use of monkeys and apes in a cartoonish fashion resonated deeply with Arkiv. The collaborative process spanned two years, involving
meticulous preparation and numerous contributions. Eighteen of Arkiv’s significant works were exhibited in the Bape Gallery in Beijing, with another exhibition scheduled for the Bape Gallery in New York in September. The collaboration will culminate in a grand exhibition at Tokyo’s Bape Gallery in December 2023.
Excitingly, the collaboration will extend beyond the realm of paintings, as Arkiv’s artwork will be transformed into apparel. Fans can look forward to an Arkiv collaboration with BAPE, set to be released in 2024.

Accoladed Artist Restu Taifik Akbar presents his artworks of novelty upon flat stainless steel plates painted horizontally on the floor with enamel paint, minimizing control and allowing puddles of paint colors to merge and result in abstract landscapes.
Originally from traditional oil painting on canvases, this cum laude Institute of Bandung Technology graduate’s undergraduate final project was titled “Magical for Rest” inspired from traveling, forest explorations and mountain climbing where years later he transformed evolved to steel and enamel paint.
This UOB Painting Gold Medalist believes in visual arts that transcend mediums where painting and sculpture traditional practice are fused with a variety of materials, techniques, and expression styles. Field Expansion Phenomenons where medium-centric shifts to more conceptual exploration precedence doesn’t imply an end to specific artistic mediums but instead heightens fluidity and intersections.
Restu paints with a medley of high contrasting paint colors to artfully depict natural landscape objects of tree appearances in
winding vertical strokes, sunlight filters through tree trunks, branches and twigs that are made rhythmically intersecting and dividing color fields, appearing as moments in the morning or evening.
Taufik’s oil paint on canvas landscape painting expressed comparatively static-esque frozen-like imagery hence his dissatisfaction that led him to experiment painting on materials that render reflection in real-time. Painting on reflective objects isn’t totally new where Michaelangelo Pistoletoo painted on mirrors in the 1960s and on stainless steel in the 1980s. Akbar’s method is rather specific where he used enamel paint to paint horizontally on the floor while incorporating landscape elements of flowing water, infinite imagery of stairs and intentionally creating further reflections by scraping off parts of the painting.
Space and time are dynamic and living dimensions which Restu found existing in stainless steel media that disclose the observer’s reflections as an integral part of the artwork. Stainless steel does not only render visual sensation experiences but a tension between viewing the painting and perceiving oneself in the reflection. This
tension easily divides and exposes deeper levels of consciousness of art enthusiasts.
Experiencing Restu’s artworks offers a novel perspective upon 21st century influences revealing fragmented interferences, fusion, hybridity, paradoxes, and subversion of grand noble aweinspiring modern values and experiences such as in social media selfie exhibitionism.
Painter Restu Taufik Akbar showcased thirty two group exhibition attendances, two solo exhibitions and was awarded a 2015 Finalist of Nalar Sensasi Seni, 2017 Finalist of Bandung Contemporary Arts, and a 2022 UOB Painting of the Year Gold Award.
Klaten, Central Java born Subroto Somomartono is an Accoladed Painter who has been awarded a Wendy Sorensen Memorial Fund USA Certification of Merit with Prizes for Best Painting at the ASRI Anniversary Art Exhibition in 1968, Indonesian Art Institute of Yogyakarta Symbol Designer Certification of Merit with Prizes in 2008, Jogja Annual Art #2 Themed Bergerak (Move) Certification of Merit for the dedication and thoughts in Indonesia’s Art Development in 2017.
Somomartono utilizes two methodologies in his painting techniques. At times he makes forms without thought on content such as in his paintings Torso, Nude or Gadis Duduk (Sitting Girl), at other times he paints based on themes such as on a mother’s love for her child, human depression, disasters, crucifixion, starvation and further others. These painting ideas may appear anytime and may be kept hidden or have not been realized or may be too difficult to achieve. He says “In my visualization, I desire natural forms that can deeply express profound hand and feeling resonation that’s
based on linear line strengths that manifests pure, essential and expressive art forms”.
Former ISI lecturer Subroto teaches his art students among others that there is no absolute right and wrong in art, where every student possesses unique values. In an experimental faculty art subject students were allowed freedom where some used live eels to express painting forms, others employed balloon explosions while another made use of ouija boards. Subroto requires students to produce at least 500 sketches in one semester, saying “After grasping the unique styles of students, I don’t focusedly attend to them anymore”.
During his past 42 years as a Lecturer as well as a Faculty Dean at the Indonesian Institute of Art (ISI), Subroto has also been simultaneously active in art painting and participations in numerous local and international art exhibitions since 1967.
This painter who studied Ceramics in Japan from 19751977 performed solo exhibitions of a Jogjakarta Bentara Budaya 1984 Solo Exhibition, a Jakarta Galeri Milenium 2002 Solo Exhibition, and a Jogjakarta Kiniko Art The Master #3 2023 Solo Exhibition.

Because they have common roots, the carving’s outlines represent those areas as a single, coherent entity. The ancestors finally chose to settle in the East Manggarai area because it was the only safest place to survive at the time. The shape of a boat with the head of the Lawe Lujang bird, which is almost like a mythical bird, is believed to bring good luck.
