FROM OUR FOUNDER When we started Cuvée, we did so with the vision of blending our passion for creating unique and life changing experiences, appreciating great art and phenomenal architecture, enjoying beautifully appointed residences, spending time with incredible people and investing in the best real estate in the world into one successful company. Cuvée has certainly grown into a blend of life’s most enjoyable pursuits. All the while, we’ve built a close-knit community of like-minded leaders who share a passion for the art of discovery. Nowhere is this personified more than at our annual Cuvée Gala. Together, we have journeyed to the rolling hills of Tuscany, London Olympics and beaches of St. Barths to name but a few. This year, however, was the crowning jewel in Cuvée’s Gala history. Our time spent in South Africa was, quite simply, life changing. With a oncein-a-lifetime itinerary planned by Cuvée, we ventured from the shores of Cape Town to the majestic wilds of Sabi Sand where we embarked on a safari that would have a lasting impact on our community. We hope you’ll enjoy our Adventure in Africa (page 36) feature where we celebrate the memories and moments that made this our most incredible Gala yet. What’s more, our Gala guests captured each and every image displayed throughout the story. We’re also incredibly proud of the way our Cuvée community has come together in support of Flight to Luxury (page 48), benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. What began in 2010 with 200 guests in attendance and $50k raised has since evolved into Denver’s ultimate giving experience, with more than 1,000 of our community’s business leaders, philanthropists, athletes and celebrities helping to raise more than $4.3 million over the past seven years. The impact this has had on the nearly 40 percent of Denver’s youth living in poverty is profound. This year marks the 8th annual Flight to Luxury and we are poised for our biggest night yet. With a goal of raising $1.7 million on September 15th, we’re honored to have grown our vision into one that truly celebrates the potential of these remarkable children. Of course, reaching one’s potential both personally and professionally is only possible by surrounding ourselves with trailblazers and innovators. It seemed like the perfect fit, then, when Cuvée was invited to move its headquarters to Denver’s Dairy Block (page 62), the city’s most innovative and impressive new development. A place that pays homage to the past while looking forward to the future, Dairy Block is quickly becoming Denver’s hub for artisans and thought leaders and we believe that Cuvée will thrive in this creative environment. They say that seeing the world leaves you speechless but turns you into a storyteller. Indeed, these adventures are what shapes Cuvée. We thank you for being a part of our community and moreover, our story. Gratefully yours, Larry Mueller
At left: Exploring South Africa with friends and family was a profound and life-changing experience. We celebrated our 2017 Gala in true Cuvée-style.

What’s inspiring our wanderlust spirit online
RIGHT NOW ON PINTEREST We’re inspired by vintage photos from the Ryder Cup. The original golf major, the first Cup was played in 1927. Cuvée will celebrate in Paris at Ryder Cup 2018, marking the tournament’s 42nd year.
BLOG TO LOVE /// A Hotel Life There’s not much about this modish travel blog we don’t love. The brainchild of tastemakers Amy Risley and Ben Pundhole, A Hotel Life is a menagerie of goodness for anyone with a wanderlust spirit and thirst for the haute and hip. Don’t expect to see big name chains or well-known resorts. The site uncovers the hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path escapes. Penned by a curated collection of bloggers, A Hotel Life gives travelers the lowdown without all the flowery marketing language, reviewing inns around the world with spot on descriptions like “high end Wes Anderson-y.” We also love the fact that all photos are original, authentically capturing the spirit and perspective of each writer’s personal experience. ACCOUTREMENT: WRIGHT ON TREND The perfect marriage may be hard to come by, but we’re thoroughly convinced that the recent union of Schumacher and famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright is a match made in interior heaven. The well-known textile house has partnered with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation on a family of fabrics inspired by the collection Wright and his team originally designed for the brand back in 1955. What’s more, it marks the 150th anniversary of the architect’s birth. The collection will consist of 50 products and will include some of Wright’s original prints as well as designs derived from a range of his personal sketches and drawings. Upholstery fabrics, sheers and decorative trims will comprise part of the line, along with the aforementioned prints. According to Dara Caponigro, Schumacher’s creative director, “anyone who loves design will appreciate their integrity and originality. They have Mr. Wright’s indelible signature all over them and marry substance and style in a thoroughly unique way.” + More at fschumacher.com +
HOME, SWEET HOLLYWOOD Los Angeles’ Holmby Hills enclave is no stranger to bold faced names. In fact, many of Tinseltown’s brightest stars have called the neighborhood home – from Frank Sinatra to Jay-Z and Beyonce. Yet two of its most iconic residents, the late actresses Audrey Hepburn and Eva Gabor, both resided in the same stately home on Delfern Drive. Now, real estate seekers with a cool $14 million to spare can also call the 7,000-square-foot estate home. Listed by Hollywood broker Jade Mills, 100 Delfren Drive is touted as a “traditional tennis estate” and is as classicly picturesque as the actresses who owned it. The mansion is accessed through a gated entrance down a paved drive to the motor court and the private compound includes over an acre of lawns, a tennis court, swimming pool, terraces, a 700-square-foot guesthouse with a kitchen and a detached 1,000-square-foot staff quarters/office with a living room, dining room, kitchen, one bedroom and two baths. The main house, originally built in 1938 and designed by popular architect Paul Williams, includes a grand foyer with a focal curved stairwell, formal living room with fireplace and dedicated library nook, dining room, family room, kitchen, breakfast room and two staff bedrooms on the first floor. Upstairs are four bedrooms, including the master suite, totaling six bedrooms and four baths. Not surprisingly, the house also had a strong attraction to other stars of the era who lived there including David Niven and later, Mia Farrow. + More at jademillsestates.com +

VENTURES FALL I WINTER 2017
COME FLY WITH ME Few things represent the notion of the future more so than the flying car. It’s a concept that has persisted for decades, with inventors and enthusiasts clamoring for new models that will bring them one step closer to escaping the mundane roads of yesteryear. European manufacturer AeroMobil is one of the niche industry’s frontrunners with an international team of more than 40 engineers and designers from eight countries. Recently, the brand showed off version 4.0 of its vehicle at the International Paris Air Show. With claims that “the AeroMobil concept is designed to work in today’s infrastructure,” the concept car wowed the crowd. On land, the vehicle can travel up to 100 mph for more than 400 miles. In the air, it can fly nonstop for almost 500 miles at speeds up to 160 mph. The vehicle seats two, and can transform from drive to flight mode in less than three minutes. The catch? You’ll need to brave circa 2017 traffic and get to an airport first as the AeroMobil needs a runway to take off and land. Plus, operators have to be certified pilots. Still, the model is impressive with an exterior fashioned from carbon composites and a cockpit fashioned from a high-strength monocoque structure. AeroMobil says it will start delivering the vehicles by 2020 and is taking pre-orders now. The estimated cost for the top-of-the-line model is $1.8 million. + More at aeromobil.com +
SMOKE SCREEN Few brands have had the staying power of luxury leather maker S.T. Dupont. This year, the storied collection celebrates its 145th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the company is teaming up with another well-loved label – cigar superstar Davidoff – for an ultra-exclusive, limited edition offering. The Parisian company has returned to its roots, when in 1872 Simon Tissot-Dupont began creating superbly fashioned leather travel trunks for members of high society. The 145th Anniversary Travel Case Humidor stands three-and-a-half-feet-tall and is finished with eight coats of hand-polished black lacquer accented with an Atelier Sunburst tobacco-hued crocodile leather on both the front and top panels. Featuring gold trim throughout, the piece is more akin to a travel trunk than a humidor. The front panel opens to expose nine cedar trays, five of which come filled with 72 Davidoff Oro Blanco cigars at $500 each. What’s more, one of the other drawers contains a gold Le Grande S.T. Dupont Haute Création duo-flame lighter sculpted with a crocodile skin pattern in bronze and finished in yellow gold with diamond accents. It is accompanied by a matching Haute Création twin-bladed cutter. Of course, one cannot smoke an Oro Blanco cigar without the proper ashtray; thus a hand-patinated, bronze ashtray is included, along with a smaller Atelier Sunburst humidor for convenient use in a hotel room or stateroom when traveling. At $145,000 each, only 72 of the Anniversary Travel Case Humidors will be made – a nod to the year the brand began. + More at davidoffgeneva.com +

A FASHIONABLE PAST Not one, but two museums dedicated to the work of the late Yves Saint Laurent are set to open their doors this fall. Located in Paris and Marrakesh, the museums offer visitors a closer glimpse into the life and career of the celebrated fashion pioneer. The latter of the two museums holds special significance as the city itself is said to have had a profound effect on Saint Laurent’s work. What’s more, Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent and Fondation Jardin Majorelle will unveil the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, which will become the permanent home to a significant selection of the designer’s work. The museum building was designed by French architecture firm Studio KO and is located adjacent to the Jardin Majorelle, which the late designer saved from destruction in the 1980s along with partner Pierre Berge. + More at fondation-pb-ysl.net +

CUVÉE'S CHEF DU JOUR:
SUSIE JIMENEZ, ASPEN, COLORADO Chat with us about your background and what drew you to the culinary world. As a child, I was always in the kitchen in one form or another. My family is huge with 26 uncles and aunts from both sides and you can just imagine how many cousins I grew up with. So there was always a job for everyone. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother are and were very amazing cooks and did everything from scratch. No cans or processed bites in this family – all organic and from Mother Earth. Not only did I observe what they did but I also traveled from immigrant camp to immigrant camp when I was a child with the seasons and picked next to my parents and siblings. Everything from peaches, apricots and cherries to the pruning process. As an adult, I decided to attend the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco to learn not only my own Latin cuisine but everything that I had not experienced as well.
Describe your “style” as a chef. Latin flavors are in my blood so I naturally go to those ingredients but I have learned so much in my cooking that I now fuse flavors together. I can’t get away from loving spice, herbs and legumes but now I create them in different forms. The women in my family cooked in a very rustic way, but with bold flavors. I have adhered to that with a healthy and elegant touch.
If they haven’t asked for something specific, what do you love preparing for Cuvée guests? I love it when the guests want specific things. I am not uncomfortable with their requests and I continue to grow from them. I do love when they say “do what you do best and surprise us.” That means they are open to flavors, textures and ideas that they may not have encountered before.
22
VENTURES FALL | WINTER 2017
Any signature ingredients we can expect to see in your dishes? My key ingredients are vegetables. I did grow up with a mostly vegetarian menu such as cucumbers, carrots, jalapeños, cilantro, tomatoes and masa. Masa is a key ingredient in my culture, a corn flour that is not only glutenfree but has many forms. I love citrus because it enriches dishes and gives them the punch I need.
Any favorite dishes from recent Cuvée guests? When I give them corn salsas, sauces for their grilled favorites and authentic Mexican cuisine they are all smiles. There are no complaints and there is such a punch in their mouth of different textures and flavors.
What does a menu from you look like during winter months? Winter doesn’t have to be heavy – it can still be light and bold. My soups are something everyone enjoys – from rice noodle soups, to albondiga (meatball) soup to stews. Warm salads are the key to a healthy diet during the winter months, along with spice to heat up your body.
What about the summer months? Summer is full of so much harvest that the menus are endless, from fresh salads to wraps to seafood. More than anything, the grill becomes my best friend. I love grilling sweet potatoes, green beans and broccoli to highlight smoky flavors in a refreshing dish.
Other than a phenomenal meal, what can Cuvée guests expect from a dining experience with you? Healthy menus with a punch. Healthy shouldn’t mean tasteless, it should be natural and delicious. There are endless techniques to keep it interesting. When the clients are open to it, I also love to engage them in conversations about the food as I serve it. I love setting the mood for the meal – whether it’s sitting al fresco with cocktails and appetizers or walking them through the courses at an elegant, formal table. I always aim to go to the next level to create an amazing experience.
How about wine pairings? I love pairing great wines with my meals. I also love creating interesting, fresh cocktails. They are fun and tell people that there are no rules when it comes to what we love.

GOOD SPIRITS: SUSIE AND DON LAW: LAW ESTATE WINES For Coloradoans Susie and Don Law, wine has been a passion for years. It seemed natural, then, to turn that passion into a profession. Law Estate Wines was founded out of a love for Rhone inspired blends. Today, the Paso Robles winery grows over 75 planted acres yielding more than a dozen varietals. We sat down with Susie and Don to find out more about their lauded label.
What was the inspiration behind Law Estate Wines? Why did you venture into the business? We love doing projects and learning new things. Law Estate Wines was the perfect way to really get to know fine wines, which had been a longtime passion of ours.
Why do you prefer to grow in Paso Robles as opposed to Napa or Sonoma? Paso Robles is an exciting, up and coming area with a tight knit group of exceptional wine makers and we wanted to be part of it. Plus, we love Rhone style wines, which this area is known for.
What can someone expect when visiting your California Tasting Room? Our visitors can expect a top-notch experience tasting some of the finest California wines.
How many varietals are in your current library of offerings? We grow mostly Grenache and Syrah with a large chunk of Mourvedre. We also grow reds including Cabernet Savignon, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo and Carignan and whites including Roussanne, Marsanne and Clairette Blanche.
What is next for the Law Estate Wines brand? We will continue to increase our production as the new plantings reach their potential. Our winery is permitted to 10,000 cases and we strive to reach this volume, as long as there is continued demand for our wine.
How can someone purchase your wines? Instead of a wine club, we have an allocation list, so that customers may order whatever they like from each fall and spring release, and special offerings are available to those who qualify.
If you could be sharing any bottle of wine with anyone in the world, anyplace in the world, which bottle, with whom and where would it be? Of course, we would share any one of our Law Estate Wines with any of our friends. And when we are with friends, it doesn’t matter where we are!
Why have you chosen to donate to Flight to Luxury? We have enjoyed two luxury trips with Cuvée, to St. Barths and to South Africa, and have many friends in the Cuvée group. Plus, we are already supporters of Boys & Girls Clubs, so partnering on Flight to Luxury was a natural fit. + More at lawestatewines.com

CULTURE CLUB: (AN INTERVIEW WITH) BOBBI WALKER, WALKER FINE ART Talk about your gallery’s role in this year’s Flight to Luxury event.
This will mark the second year of our gallery’s participation in Flight to Luxury benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Supporting the community has always been an important priority for my gallery. I serve on several non-profit boards and committees, including the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. Our artists are often asked to donate their work to various local charities for art auctions and we encourage them to select one charity per year to support. This year, two of our artists, Melanie Grein and Chloe Hedden, have pledged to donate their artwork to support the Boys & Girls Clubs. All proceeds will benefit the charity. The artists’ donations are also meant to encourage the new generation of art patrons to start their collections with these accessible entry price points ($750-$2,800).
Tell us about the artists that are being featured in Flight to Luxury. What kind of art does your gallery specialize in? At Walker Fine Art we exhibit contemporary art: abstraction and realism, through mixed media, experimental photography, sculpture, video and installation. Founded in 2002, we represent regional and national mid-career artists.
Melanie Grein, “Getting There”
Melanie’s work represents an intersection of journey, memory and mood. Bold lines and brushstrokes are balanced with delicate details and a soft earthy background. Her work has appeared in a number of art publications including The American Art Collector and The Pallet.

VENTURES FALL I WINTER 2017
Chloe Hedden “Copper Rosettes”
As an artist, Chloe looks for unseen patterns and hidden narratives that reveal the magnificence in all things. In this particular work, she explores the softness and delicate nature of rose blossoms through rendering it in the warm luster of bronze.
Heather Patterson, “Field Study”
Heather’s work is an intuitive gathering of imagery stemming from both the natural and built environments. In “Field Study,” she uses a sticking color palette of corals, oranges and pinks and grounds them with dark grays, as she explores the interplay of organic and geometric imagery.
What is your philosophy with art and how is that transcended through what is featured in your gallery?
My personal collection is a reflection of my life’s trials and triumphs. It lifts my spirits, makes me think and provides insight and healing. In engaging new artists, I am always looking for the trifecta: work that is aesthetically compelling, technically well executed and intellectually or emotionally inspiring. In curating exhibits over the last several years we have been moving more and more toward exhibition of conceptual work. This is demonstrated primarily through our large front wall being dedicated to experimental installation work, which allows our artists a larger canvas to explore their ideas in alternative mediums. When patrons are taking in the exhibition, we encourage them to consider the work not only aesthetically, but also conceptually. Reading the artist statement, which is always posted near the work, allows viewers to connect with the artist’s intent.
What can an interested party or collector expect when visiting your gallery?
Patrons can expect an unparalleled experience of discovery through a diversity of mediums and subject matter in a thought-provoking and inspiring atmosphere. The spaciousness of our urban-loft style gallery allows us to feature large-scale sculpture and bodies of work by six artists. All of the art in an exhibition is bound together by a single, unifying thread drawn from each artist’s statement about their new body of work. You can expect to see a new exhibition every 6-8 weeks. My goal has been to create an environment that is inviting and expansive, both physically and emotionally. Our knowledgeable gallery staff is passionate about the work and enjoys sharing the artists’ intent and the process behind it.
What types of tips and direction do you dispense to someone looking to invest in art?
Bonny Lhotka, “Light Drawing 2”
Bonny is an expert in the field of alternative methods photography. In this work from her “Light Drawings” series, she captures the light as it shifts from day to night, when dreamlike elements and forms are revealed, giving life to ideas sealed in the unconscious.
Appreciating art is fairly easy, but investing in art and integrating it into your daily life can be a bit more daunting. The first step is to take in as much art as possible, challenge your eye to see art objectively and with enthusiasm, rather than judgment. You will begin to gravitate toward work that stimulates and inspires you. Secondly, take advantage of gallerists as a resource; as a gallerist I see a lot of art. Every year we review hundreds of portfolios, and dozens of websites of national artists we are interested in. I see many gallery and museum exhibitions in Denver and in other cities, attending at least two national or international art fairs a year. An experienced gallerist can help you train your eye to be more discerning and alert you to work that may be of interest to you. Thirdly, get to know the artist – to be a patron of the arts you need to believe in the artist. If they are local ask for a studio visit, if national listen to an interview, podcast or video. Lastly, buy what you love because it moves you or enhances your life aesthetically, intellectually or emotionally.

DESIGN DOSSIER: OTOMI
Ikats have had their moment in the design sun of late. The next trend to watch? Otomi, the traditional embroidery technique hailing from the central Mexican plateau. Created with a satin stitch over freehand drawings, the embroideries feature flora and native fauna such as birds, deer and armadillos. The authentic pieces are prevalent in Los Cabos and can be seen throughout CuvÊe’s villas and casitas in the area.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH:
THE BIG ISLAND, HAWAII Far across the blue waters of the Pacific and perched on the fairway of Hawaii’s most esteemed golf course sits Cuvée’s Hualalai Estate. Nestled on the North Kona Coast of Hawaii’s Big Island, the 6,300-square-foot property is undoubtedly one of the area’s finest. Architected, designed and constructed by Cuvée’s award-winning team, the Estate offers high quality finishes and a state-of-the-art entertainment system. Behind the Estate’s antique gate is a villa like no other – from the curved glass walls that open up to a full ocean or golf course view, to the sweeping infinity pool and outdoor fire features that cast a flickering glow. It’s easy to see why the Hualalai Estate is a favorite amongst the Cuvée community. Likewise, the island itself makes a lasting impression. While it is indeed the “Big Island,” Kona boasts all of the trappings of a small town. The rural topography is dotted with every kind of landscape, from white and black sand beaches to pockets of both rain forest and desert. Within it are charming hidden gems and classic icons galore, all waiting to welcome guests in true island style.
Dine Cuvée’s Destination Manager, Hoku Lai, is an expert and aficionado when it comes to dining in and around the island. From fine dining to sleepy outposts, she ensures that guests of the Estate experience all that Kona has to offer. For a casual meal, she recommends Kona Brewing Company where hand spun pizzas and local organic salads are the restaurant’s specialty. While there, sample the Hawaiian beers on tap, many of which are not available elsewhere on the island. Another low-key favorite? Da Poke Shack. This hole-in-the-wall eatery was once the highest-rated restaurant in the United States on Travelocity. Since then, it’s been touted by the likes of Bon Appetit and other notable magazines. Locals consider it the de-facto spot for fresh yellow fin tuna. For a finer dining experience, Hoku recommends Merriman’s, an island favorite for more than 20 years. Chef Peter Merriman’s flagship restaurant, the eatery is located in picturesque upcountry Waimea. Known for local, authentic flavors, Merriman’s is the original home of Hawaiian regional cuisine. Opt for the Ahi Ginger Poke appetizer followed by the Kahua Ranch Lamb. Also worth trying is Pueo’s Osteria. Located roughly 20 minutes north of the estate, the restaurant marries fine Italian dining with fresh, locally sourced ingredients for a unique fusion experience. Hoku’s recommendation? The Paccheri Pasta with Kauai shrimp, little neck clams, cuttlefish and the fresh catch of the day. For brunch, we love the idea of venturing to a local favorite. Little known by tourists, Holuakoa Café is an open-air, cottage-style restaurant that serves the island’s best Bloody Mary. Plus, the breezy setting in the hills is idyllic and not to be missed. Naturally, Hawaii is one of the world’s preeminent destinations for sushi. Head to the nearby Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar for the island’s best. The restaurant is equal parts relaxed and refined and is beloved by locals and visitors alike. Our favorites? The fresh Ahi Sashimi appetizer coupled with the Mango Crab Salad Hand Roll. As dessert, try the restaurant’s must-have cocktail, their famous Chocolate Martini.

VENTURES FALL I WINTER 2017
Play Snorkeling and scuba are two popular activities with many guests. However, Kona Huna Divers take it up a notch with night dives. These after-dark expeditions are exceptional and unique, and won’t be found in a standard guidebook. We love the Manta Ray Night Dive, where you’ll view these majestic sea creatures under the glistening moonlight. The Big Island is undeniably a stunning land formation and so it comes as no surprise that plenty of scenic hotspots are on our itinerary. Head to Kailua-Kona’s “End of the World.” The famed overlook and climb offers up some of the island’s best sightseeing where you’ll enjoy the dramatic crashing of the waves against a wall of jet-black lava rock. Also not to miss is Akaka Falls State Park. The waterfall is a favorite photo op, but we think the banyan tree forest is the real star. For the ultimate day on the water, allow Hoku to arrange a private boating adventure. A perfect option for groups wanting a customized experience, these excursions can be tailored to include any combination of snorkeling, fishing, sunbathing and even whale watching. From a 34-foot fishing boat to a luxurious 65-foot Hatteras yacht, Cuvée will create an unforgettable experience on the stunning waters of the Pacific. Of course, seeing what’s underneath the water can be incredible, too. Take in rare underwater views from the 48-passenger Atlantis Submarine where you’ll also be privy to an 18,000-year-old, 25,000-acre fringing coral reef. A truly breathtaking adventure, this excursion is one of the most popular amongst estate guests. Other island activities include surfing lessons, kayaking, helicopter tours, swimming with native dolphins and jawdropping volcano tours – all of which are at your disposal.
Indulge There’s no better place to indulge in the art of relaxation than Hawaii and no better way to do so than with a treatment at the award-winning Hualalai Spa. Housed within the confines of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, this chic 28,000-square-foot sanctuary integrates tropical gardens with cool interior spaces that feel distinctly Hawaiian. Known as the island’s finest spa, we suggest the three-hour Hualalai Experience, which combines a 50-minute Polynesian Niu Scrub, a 50-minute Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage and 50-minute Kane Facial. Another relaxing island activity can be found via retail therapy at the nearby Kings’ Shops Waikoloa, where luxe brands such as Michael Kors and Tiffany & Co. make their Hawaiian home. We also love The Shops at Mauna Lani for their decidedly island, open-air vibe. Browse through a wide assortment of galleries and discover one-of-a-kind wares from unique local craftsmen.
Experience As a guest of the Hualalai Estate, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to experience the Big Island, Cuvée-style. Hoku and Cuvée’s team of seasoned Experience Curators have carefully crafted once-in-a-lifetime island adventures specifically for the estate’s guests. As a former professional Hula dancer, Hoku herself offers private lessons in the art of this legendary dance. You’ll start with freshly made Mai Tais before moving on to the Hula, replete with Uli’-Uli and Po’Ili sticks. For the ultimate experience, add a post-Hula Surf and Turf dinner with Cuvée’s private chef. Or, dive into the Hawaiian culture and learn how to create the most revered accessory of the islands – the floral lei. All the while, sip on handcrafted cocktails at your estate. Our favorite curated experience, however, is the private boating excursion and sushi making class with Chef Kealoha. Feel the fresh ocean breeze while you are out on your private charter enjoying Veuve Cliquot complemented by fresh fruit and variations of croissantwiches with accoutrements. Expect to snorkel, partake in deep-sea fishing and catch your dinner for the evening, which will be the freshest sushi you will ever eat. Back on land, private Chef Kealoha will introduce you to the art of sushi making. As the perfect pairing, he will serve his favorite Sake or a chilled glass of crisp Riesling.

VENTURES FALL I WINTER 2017
IN AFRICA CUVÉE JOURNEYS TO SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE 2017 GALA
They say that the only thing one can buy that truly makes him richer is travel. At Cuvée, this adage is a way of life and the company’s annual Galas are the personification of this mantra. This year, Cuvée took the success of their past Galas – from London, to Tuscany, to St. Barths – and elevated the experience to new heights. With the itinerary of a lifetime ahead, a group of nearly 50 from the Cuvée community ventured to South Africa. And while an overseas trip is not out of the norm for these seasoned travelers, the adventure they were about to embark on was most certainly unique. In fact, the entire concept of the Cuvée Gala was one created by founder Larry Mueller more than seven years ago in an effort to push the community out of their comfort zones and experience travel from a different vantage point. Mueller refers to it as “the art of discovery” and notes that the South Africa Gala is Cuvée’s best example yet – a tall statement considering the group spent the 2012 London Olympics at Leeds Castle with gold medalist Missy Franklin, hosted its own Bucket regatta on St. Barths and toured Italy’s most esteemed vineyards with winemakers whose industry lineage goes back hundreds of years. What ensued over the nine-day journey would undoubtedly prove Mueller’s point.
“It’s like magic. Each part of the trip was planned in the Cuvée way – all over the top and fantastic. You couldn’t ask for anything more.” –Candy and Ross Bhappu
“These groups are made up of likeminded people in that they
all have a desire to experience and explore life to its fullest. They’re thought leaders, business owners, philanthropists, athletes – they’re passionate people who view the world through a different lens,” he explains. “There’s something about seeing the world together and embarking on the rarest possible experiences in the farthest reaches of the planet that creates a bond like no other. That is what the Cuvée community is really all about.” It came as no surprise then, that the group’s South Africa adventure was, in many ways, life-changing.
“Connections are an important component of what happens at these Galas; connections with friends and family, but also with others who are like-minded in their desire to celebrate life and do it with passion. The people are the most important ingredient,” states Mueller. More than once, people have come together at a Gala and made lifetime friendships. “We have many examples of families that didn’t know each other, and who are now very close friends,” Susan Farrugia, co-founder and partner, adds. “One couple at the Gala became engaged right in front of us and we all had tears of happiness in our eyes. We also had a 60th birthday to celebrate together. They were touching moments.” These moments began with an itinerary so deeply researched and flawlessly planned that it took the Cuvée team an additional trip to the continent to vet each and every experience and meet with the country’s top hotels, restaurants, wineries and destinations. From the moment the group arrived to the time they ventured home, each minute was curated in such a way that no individual traveler ever could or would think to do.
CAPE TOWN AT ITS FINEST
The 2017 South Africa Gala took place in two distinct and juxtaposing regions of the country, the first being the storied streets of
Cape Town. Guests rested their heads at the city’s most elite and coveted property – The Silo Hotel. Named for the historic grain silo complex in which it is housed, the hotel towers above the majestic Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and is arguably the city’s most celebrated and sought-after. In keeping with the personal touches for which Cuvée is known, the hotel was bought out completely for Gala guests, meaning that the experience was even further enriched. Likewise, world-class meals at the city’s finest eateries – such
as The Pot Luck Club, Savoy Cabbage and La Colombe – were all exclusive to the group. Yet the planning went far beyond a private dining room and posh hotel. Cuvée went to great lengths to ensure Gala guests experienced Cape Town in the most thoughtful, memorable way possible. A trip to Robben Island – where humanitarian and eventual South African President Nelson Mandela was held for 18 of the 27 years he was imprisoned – was guided by a fellow inmate during Mandela’s incarceration. Guests were deeply affected as they shared those intimate spaces where Mandela turned the fortunes of his life, and those of his entire nation, for the better. “The Gala is so much more than an opulent trip,” explains Director of Events and Philanthropy Whitney Skylar. “While it is indeed a luxury journey, it is about truly connecting with the environment and with the other guests. We ensure that each excursion is experienced from the most prolific, unique and personal vantage point possible.” Also on the itinerary was a trek up Table Mountain – one of the seven natural wonders of the world and unquestionably the most incredible view of Cape Town. Guests braved the 3,500-foot incline, summiting to the top as a team. Yet in true Cuvée-style, a locally renowned naturalist who provided insight and information on wildlife, botany and geology throughout the climb, led the expedition.

No Cape Town adventure would be complete without traveling to South Africa’s esteemed wine country. On the third day of their journey, guests boarded private helicopters for a breathtaking flight to the Delaire Graff Estate. An elite, private vineyard, the Estate was open exclusively for Gala guests. Members of the famed Graff family, best known for their stunning diamonds, led the group in an exceptional wine tasting of the label’s rarest varietals. Afterwards, guests indulged in a flawless lunch at Overture at Hidden Valley. Situated on a wine farm anchored into the side of the Stellenbosch Hills, the restaurant is one of the country’s finest and most picturesque. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the group’s next activity was about sheer adrenaline and exhilaration. The bravest of the bunch spent their morning shark cage diving off the coast of Seal Island. A thrill and adventure alike, the experience brought the group even closer together and offered the incredibly rare chance to witness the ocean’s mightiest and most majestic creatures up close and personal. The remainder of the group viewed the South African coast in an incredibly memorable way as they boarded authentic WWII sidecars. With the wind at their back and sweeping views of the Atlantic beside them, guests were in awe as they took in the sights of Boulders Beach, Cape Point Peninsula and the Cape of Good Hope. “It is this level of detail that makes our adventures so impactful,” remarks cofounder Susan Farrugia. “Guests who come to our Galas return year after year knowing that the experience they will have with us will be incredibly unique.”
“Cuvée is undoubtedly six star. It always exceeds your expectations. We rely on Larry and the Cuvée team to give us the most unique vacations that we could ever have. We are going to be lifelong Cuvée-ers.” –Carol and Jordan Solich

SAFARI WITH SINGITA
Tdelivered he next leg of the 2017 Cuvée Gala was perhaps the most profound in the community’s history. After a private chartered plane them from Cape Town to the Sabi Sand, Cuvée guests checked into the Singita Lodges: Ebony and Boulders. “The synergies between Cuvée and Singita were palatable in every phase of the journey,” explains Mary Kay Mueller. “Everything from the way we were greeted upon arrival to the architecture and décor of the lodges was consistent with the Cuvée way. It was as if we had designed the space and the experience ourselves.”
Considered the continent’s finest safari outfitter, Singita’s passion for the art of discovery is one that mimics that of Cuvée’s. Founded by Luke Bailes, a South African businessman who is deeply committed to the country’s conservation, Singita (Shangaan for Place of Miracles) is lauded for marrying luxury hospitality with environmental and social responsibility. “There’s an authenticity of place at each of our lodges that is not only a rarity but touches guests on every level – spiritual, emotional and physical,” notes Bailes. Gala guests emphatically agreed with this sentiment, indulging in and appreciating the enchantment and serenity of the landscape. Twice daily game drives with professional trackers took Cuvée guests on a tour of “big cat country” in Singita’s Private Reserve – an experience that was truly unforgettable. Spotting a pride of lions became the norm, as did seeing the world’s most beautiful and, in many cases, most endangered animals in their native environment. The ruggedness of the land was perfectly complemented with the authentic luxury that defines Singita. From indulgent spa treatments in private bungalows overlooking the bush to daily high tea at the lodge, the experience was the ideal balance of relaxation and exhilaration. Gala guests came to enjoy the evening tradition of wine and cheese during sunset before enjoying private gourmet dinners under the stars. Also on the Singita itinerary were trail bike rides through rugged landscapes and guided bush walks to track animals through the wilderness. While in the Sabi Sand, Gala guests also had the unique opportunity to meet and engage with area locals, including African schoolchildren, through a community visit. What’s more, they were able to meet local tribes and ensconce themselves in their culture – even learning the art of the native dance. “It was a profound and deeply spiritual encounter,” Mary Kay Mueller attests. “Ultimately at the Gala we create ‘life-stories’,” Larry Mueller concludes. “Cuvée curates the memories you’ll talk about for the rest of your life. You’ll discover what is truly important to you. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

VENTURES FALL | WINTER 2017
The Broadmoor Estate House The structure of note is a 12,000-square-foot manor that was designed by renowned architect Thomas MacLaren in 1929, built in 1931 and is showcased on the gorgeous property of the acclaimed Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After decades of inaccessibility, this historical treasure is available to the Cuvée community. “In many respects, the Estate House is a perfect fit with Cuvée and the expectations and desires of the Cuvée guest. I think it’s the ideal marriage,” explains Damioli. After sitting down with Cuvée Founder and CEO Larry Mueller about a potential partnership, it was soon very clear to Damioli that the fit was obvious. “Larry has put together this amazing group of professionals who understand their clientele. Cuvée has the background and wherewithal to ensure that a guest experience is one that would rival no other,” he says. The sheer size of this remarkable property lends itself to hosting everything from weddings and family reunions to cocktail parties and corporate events. “I can’t think of a more ideal setting for Thanksgiving, Christmas, holidays or a summer vacation for a Cuvée guest than the Broadmoor Estate House,” says Damioli. With five bedrooms, each with a king or two queen beds as well as their own expansive private bath, there’s ample space for each and every visitor. The way this home is situated, it also works very well with having additional rooms across the street at the Broadmoor cottages for even larger groups. The sweeping home features an unforgettable formal dining room crowned by a magnificent chandelier for up to 16 guests while the grand parlor will take center stage for more sizable gatherings and events. A gourmet kitchen guarantees extraordinary meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner while original woodwork and art, handsome appointments, a library, study and other refined details make this home truly unique. Outside, the grandeur resumes with a sprawling lawn, meticulously landscaped gardens and two croquet courts.
Estate House guests also have access to the endless features that have established The Broadmoor as one of the world’s premier destinations. The guest concierge is at your service to assist with innumerable requests, as is Cuvee’s own in-house Experience Curator. The opportunities for sport and leisure are seemingly endless. The Broadmoor Fly Fishing Camp is a private escape that borders 120,000 acres of the Lost Creek Wilderness, offering guests the rare chance to experience the best fishing in Colorado on more than five miles of private waters under the tutelage of professional Broadmoor guides. Or perhaps a private pool cabana is the order of the day, of which The Broadmoor has plenty, along with wait staff ready to make your day in the sun one of utter relaxation. The legendary Broadmoor Golf Club, the proud host of the 2018 U.S. Senior Open, features three 18-hole courses the likes of which presidents, politicians, celebrities, athletes and some of the greatest names in golf have all played. The internationally known Spa at The Broadmoor is an impeccable respite for a few pampered hours of treatments, massage, dry saunas, steam rooms, aromatherapy rooms and fireplace lounges. Meanwhile, the Penrose Room, Colorado’s only Forbes Five Star, AAA Five Diamond restaurant, awaits your reservation for a memorable evening of the finest of dining. And sitting at 3,000 feet above the Resort is The Broadmoor’s highest wilderness experience, Cloud Camp. With unobstructed 360 degree views that showcase the incomparable splendor of Pikes Peak, this authentic Colorado escape is located on the historic site of Broadmoor founder Spencer Penrose’s Cheyenne Lodge and features an equally impressive dining affair. As Jack Damioli summarizes, “these are two great brands aligning to ensure that there is an exceptional experience for Cuvée guests. To me, the key is the ability to have Cuvée’s attention to detail and hands-on assistance to maximize the Broadmoor experience.”
The Estate accommodates up to 10 guests and begins at $8,500 per evening. Full Broadmoor resort services, including golf access, are included.

The Evolution of FLIGHT TO LUXURY: Denver’s Ultimate Giving Experience
2010-2017 It has been seven years since Cuvée founder Larry Mueller first visited a Boys & Girls Club with his family at the bequest of the organization’s then CEO, John Arigoni, whom he’d been introduced to through the Jack Vickers Golf Tournament at Castle Pines. Mueller was clearly struck by the caliber of the Clubs’ staff and the impact they were having on Denver’s youth. But in the back of his mind, it was even clearer (to him) that he and his Cuvée community, too, could have a dramatic impact. As a follow up, in the fall of 2010, Mueller invited his friends and colleagues to a small fundraiser in support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. They viewed an impressive showcase of private jets and exotic cars, drank fine wines and enjoyed one another’s company. That night, Mueller and his Cuvée comrades raised $50,000 by auctioning off lavish trips to the company’s portfolio of homes. It was a respectable start, but he knew that there was something much bigger in store. Fast-forward to 2017 and Flight to Luxury is celebrating its eighth year and is poised to raise more than $1.7 million in a single evening. Featuring an aerial bartender, a live art auction, two jet hangars, hundreds of exotic cars and planes, NFL superstars tossing signed footballs into the crowd, fine fare, once-in-a-lifetime vacations, a ten-piece band, a live auction and an over-the-top fashion show, Flight to Luxury has earned both its reputation and the $4.3 million the event has raised since that fateful night in 2010. Join us as we look back at the moments and the milestones that have cemented Flight to Luxury‘s position as Denver’s ultimate giving experience.

This is Royal Island. Come December 15th, Cuvée presents the most authentic tropical experience imaginable. And once you step foot onto your own private paradise, your life will never be the same. This exclusive sanctuary that calls the Bahamas home is Cuvée’s newest treasure, where you can experience this stunning 430-acre retreat of unspoiled natural beauty on both land and sea. “I’ve been to the island many times and it’s one of the most beautiful sanctuaries with the most spectacular water I’ve ever seen,” says Cuvée Founder and CEO Larry Mueller. That’s high praise from a man who’s experienced his fair share of phenomenal properties.
The calm whispers of the turquoise blue water. A gentle breeze. Sun-kissed stretches of white, sandy beaches, the softest of which your toes will ever touch. Pure escape. A soundtrack of tranquil winds, island birds, rippling waves and the shuffle of ice in your handcrafted Mai Tai. Magnificent starfish dot the clear majestic waters of Melanie Beach. Heavenly bouquets of sea air and honeysuckle serenade your senses.
This is what it feels like to have an island all to yourself.
The island’s five oceanfront bungalows have Mueller’s unending adulation. “These bungalows sit right on the water, so when you open up the doors you find yourself on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’s as though you’re camping on the beach, but in a beautifully-equipped, luxury space. It is absolutely incredible.” With accommodations for up to 12 guests, this incomparable respite is as secluded and exclusive as it gets and is accompanied by a staff ready to attend to your every beck and call. “Our guests aren’t going to find this opportunity anywhere else in the world. Royal Island is strictly offered through Cuvée,” explains Mueller. “It is a life changing experience that brings a new appreciation for nature and tranquility.” The property’s beach club boasts a sparkling pool, hottub and fitness center with Freemotion equipment, not to mention spa and massage services offered in the privacy of your bungalow, on the beach, by the pool or in a private treatment room. Your personal chef ensures that you want for nothing. Contemporary international cuisine combined with local influence sets the table for delectable dining that include chef ’s tastings with wine pairings, three course a-la-carte meals and freshly caught seafood. And nothing can compare to the island’s impressive cocktail bar. Its natural beachfront setting offers up the unmatched ambiance of waves crashing and the sun setting over the sea as you imbibe and indulge. In grand Cuvée tradition, the curated experiences designed for guests of this fantasy island are equally unique and authentic. Taking full advantage of the crystal clear water, each experience is more surreal than the last. Imagine feeding wild stingrays in an oceanic wonderland. These fascinating creatures swim alongside guests, eating from their hands for an up close-and-personal encounter that will forever be etched in your mind.

Then there is the sandbar. This natural, unspoiled aquatic masterpiece extends nearly half a mile into the blue while bordering the most beautiful marine life in the world. Now picture yourself in the midst of this geographic wonder as you enjoy a gourmet picnic in complete privacy, followed by a day of snorkeling, collecting gorgeous shells and starfish, kayaking, jet skis, sailing, swimming or simply napping under an umbrella. For those looking to live like a true islander, Cuvée has arranged an unforgettable, virtually unheard of adventure of guided lobster diving to select that perfect entrée for your evening feast. When the sun goes down, the entertainment stays up. A night on the beach replete with fireworks and live music as well as stunning views of the moon and the stars brings your experience full circle. For the outdoor enthusiast, Royal Island’s fishing is an absolute dream. Whether it’s deep sea lines for yellow fin tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo or fishing in more shallow waters for bone fish, yellowtail and snapper, there is no shortage of options for those who enjoy the rod and reel. What’s more, Royal Island plays host to every water toy imaginable. Kayaks. Jet skis. Boats. Standup paddleboards – all of which can be helpful for the indescribable mangrove tours that the property provides. Looking for a bit more activity? The Bahamas’ famed Harbour Island (home to the renowned Dunmore Resort and uber-elite Lyford Cay Club) is a 40-minute boat ride aboard your choice of a 44-foot pleasure cruiser or a 32-foot Catamaran. Dining, nightlife and boutiques make for a memorable day trip before returning home to your private isle. Spanish Wells and North Eleuthera are two other island havens that beckon for a day trip as well. Finley Cay, with its shallow water and pink coral sand, is an all-day trip that transports you to an uninhabited island all to yourself. Unwind in the middle of nowhere for a true disconnect the likes of which you’ve never experienced. No shopping. No people. Just pure serenity. If you have to work on something other than your tan, Cuvée’s personal concierge service is there to help assimilate business with pleasure. The island has WiFi and internet phone at your disposal. Yet the island is hardly the place to bury yourself in a screen. We’re all aware of the old adage, “getting there is half the fun.” In this case, once you touch down at the airport on the island of Eleuthera, you’re greeted by Royal Island staff members who then usher you to an awaiting vessel for the 15-minute boat ride to your paradise destination. Commercial flights are available from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Nassau. And while many Bahamian islands are beautiful, Royal Island is one-of-akind. “You’re all by yourself in this beautiful water,” Mueller says with a smile. “I’ve never seen anything like it. The sense of calm that you feel from total solidarity and serenity can only be experienced in a place this private and pure. It’s incredibly rare.”

ome September 2018, Cuvée will be celebrating its own kind of feast in the French capital.
Founder and CEO Larry Mueller has organized a breathtaking tour of one of the world’s brightest cultural jewels with unfathomable access that could only be experienced through Cuvée. The fact that Mueller lived in Paris for three years only heightens the excitement for a oncein-a-lifetime excursion where your host knows the iconic city like the back of his hand.
“My favorite memories from my three years of living in Paris were our frequent visits to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica. Mary Kay and I love the area because it brings us back to a time in Paris (the late 19th century), when the Montmartre district was the heart of a vibrant artistic scene,” recalls Mueller. “It reminds us of the Parisian bohemian history and its beloved Café Society. As you stroll down cobblestone streets past the Moulin Rouge and the former haunts of the legendary artists and writers who once lived there, you’re immediately transported. Vincent van Gogh and Edgar Degas are buried in the Montmartre cemetery and the magnificent Sacré-Coeur Basilica is one of the most beautiful in Paris,” he finishes. Indeed, when Mueller thinks of Paris, he sees himself, along with Mary Kay, sitting on the Basilica’s steps and taking in the City of Lights from its highest vantage point. With a host and tour guide whose love of the city runs deep, guests of the 2018 Cuvée Gala in Paris are certain to experience the city’s joie de vivre.
Paris, Cuvée-Style
The first three days in Paris will feature exceptional culinary, wine and museum excursions, very much in keeping with Cuvée’s previous gala at the London Olympics. A private dinner atop the Eiffel Tower at 58 Tour Eiffel is sure to enchant with its sweeping views of the city and its mouth-watering cuisine and phenomenal wine selection. Gala guests will also explore the city’s incredible museums such as Musée d’Orsay, Musée Rodin and The Louvre. A private boat cruise down the Seine River will explore Paris’s most famous landmarks, while Cuvée guests can also look forward to an exclusive shopping event at Fondation Louis Vuitton and the boutique shops along the Champs-Élysées. In Rue Saint-Honoré, the favorite haunt of fashionistas the world over, you’ll experience fashion’s most covetable couturiers. What’s more, Cuvée will arrange for private, exclusive shopping experiences with Paris’s most elite labels, including personal meetings with the designers themselves. Yet a trip to Paris isn’t complete without a visit to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica and mingling with the local artists in the square of Montmartre. “I have many wonderful memories of buying art from local artists in Montmartre Square – it was an opportunity to mingle with the artists, many of whom we have featured throughout our Cuvée properties,” shares Mueller. “While strolling around the Square I would often stop at one of my favorite dining spots called La Mascotte. It dates back to 1889, the same year that saw the opening of the Eiffel Tower and the Moulin Rouge. It has incredible seafood platters and excellent steak tartare.”

Ryder Cup 2018
In addition to an already extraordinary itinerary, the famed Ryder Cup is descending on the City of Light for only the golf tournament’s second ever event in mainland Europe. VIP access to this showdown between USA’s best golfers and Europe’s top players will once again gift Cuvée guests with remarkable memories on this European canvas. Gala guests will spend an additional three nights at a luxurious chateau near the tournament course to enjoy everything this unique golf world experience has to offer. What’s more, the Ryder Cup is the most storied and historic of all the majors, having first been played in 1927. Since then, the golf world has seen its greatest players come together to vie for the win. A deeply patriotic event, the Cup represents a longstanding rivalry on the links between the Americans and Europeans.
France’s Wine Regions
Post-tournament, guests will have the option of continuing on for three or four nights in the fabled wine region of Bordeaux for a trip of a lifetime. Here you’ll explore the renowned vineyards of the Route de Médoc and discover magical medieval wine towns like Saint-Émilion. In Saint-Émilion, which is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll stroll the ancient cobblestone streets and get lost in what many say is the most beautiful of all the wine producing villages in France. There will be a trip to the famous Monolithic church, Église monolithe, which was built between the 11th and 12th centuries out of solid blocks of limestone. Cuvée has also selected a few of its favorite spots, primarily on the right bank in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux (where fashion titans like Bernard Arnault and the owners of Chanel Group all have chateaux), to go for tastings. The family-owned contemporary winery at Château La Dominique will play host to an amazing lunch atop its newly opened rooftop restaurant, La Terrasse Rouge. The property was redesigned by French architect Jean Nouvel last year, who is also the architect that designed Cuvée’s apartment in Manhattan.

the-art-structures in the city. Today, the iconic buildings are becoming the façade of Denver’s future. The development, which includes a bright mix of office and retail space, is intended to bring the city’s innovators, thought leaders and tastemakers together under one roof. Throughout the property are innovative touches with a nod to the past – think art and a milk churn that plays music. The development is a revival of what was, paying homage to previous generations. “We’re not trying to cover up our past. We’re trying to bring our past back to life,” says McWHINNEY ‘s Mark Witkiewicz. In addition to Cuvée, the space serves as the Denver headquarters for McWHINNEY, industrial real estate firm ProLogis, the national headquarters for a well-known Italian eatery chain and the downtown Denver office of Equus Software. California’s CTRL Collective shared workspace will move in this fall. “Officing alongside likeminded business leaders creates remarkable synergy and a truly creative working environment,” notes Cuvée CEO and founder Larry Mueller. The development’s retail spaces represent a diverse mix of boutiques, restaurants, cocktail crafters and even coveted national brands, with all concepts opening onto a first-of-its-kind pedestrian alley. The alley is the heart of Dairy Block, and developers say it will “celebrate artful and out-of-the-way surprises.” Locally-grown tenants will give The Alley an artisanal flavor and include Roost by Denver Flea, a coffee and retail market by Huckleberry ocated in the heart of Lower Downtown, Dairy Block is
