Foreword
If asked what Florence means to me, this would be my answer: Florence nourishes innovation and the creation of beauty. It derives its unique energy from the elegant ease of the Renaissance and its unparalleled tradition of craftsmanship. Florence is also our heredity. My father arrived in Florence in 1927 on the wave of his success in America. In 1938 he opened his first store at the historic Spini Feroni Palace in Florence, overlooking the river Arno and Via Tornabuoni. It was here, where he welcomed Hollywood stars, aristocrats and international diplomacy where the culture of Tuscan hospitality and the natural cordiality of our family have become globally known. These experiences coupled with a profound knowledge of fashion and the pure pleasure to offer the best of Italian style, inspired the creation of the Lungarno Collection: a hand-picked selection of unique hotels with strong personality conveying our core values of commitment, consistency and continuity.
As a tribute to Tuscany, the Lungarno Collection finds its origin next to the river Arno. Flowing through our beautiful country, the river of our collection continues its journey to the Via Condotti in Rome and, as it reaches the sea of Tuscany, to the charming Marina di Scarlino. The proud symbol of the Lungarno Collection is a six petal flower, inspired by the Florentine emblem of the red iris. It extends an invitation to our guests to discover the beauty of Italy in full bloom.

nheriting Salvatore Ferragamo’s desire for innovation and craftsmanship, we created the vision for our wonderful collection of hotels, stately retreats and charming villas. The dream was simple: a hotel portraying our personality, our dreams and our emotions whilst leading us to new horizons. A haven in the heart of Italy where one wants to linger and appreciate life to the fullest. The wonderful Florentine atmosphere of the Lungarno Collection then evolved flawlessly amidst splendid suites, delightful Tuscan and worldly restaurants and an unbeatable vicinity to the masterpieces of art. Four extraordinary hotels on the river Arno next to Ponte Vecchio, each with its own unmistakable character, yet typically Florentine, reflecting the heritage of the Renaissance era and the greatest tradition of craftsmanship. On the hills of the Chianti region we fell in love with a magnificent sixteenth-century villa, surrounded by the most beautiful countryside and the scent

of antique roses. Our passion for sailing and adventure brought us to the Mediterranean coast, where we found our ideal landing at the Marina di Scarlino, embedded in the transparency of the Tuscan sea. Finally we arrived in Rome, a stone’s throw from the Trinity church, and in the heart of Via Condotti where fashion and creativity meet. Our dream of creating something special above the Ferragamo store came true: a collection of portrait-suites giving homage to the great Italian cinema, enwrapped in light and the beauty of La Dolce Vita. Thanks to the Lungarno Collection travelling to Italy was never more beautiful. The iris The iris is the coat-of-arms of Florence, descending from the white iris, which once grew naturally in the Tuscan countryside. Displayed against a red background, the white iris became the symbol of Florence, accompanying Florentine soldiers during the First Crusade. Political powers shifted in 1251 and the Ghibellines Family had to leave the city. To signal political change, the Guelphs Family reversed the colours to the red iris and white background of today’s emblem. Even Dante eternalized the iris in his Divine Comedy ‘Nor by division was vermilion made.’
