YIA:Insight

Achieving success through motivation, knowledge and skills

Dear Parents/Carers Thank you for reading this half terms YIA:Insight, although it is only a short term we wanted to keep you informed of our news and updates. Over the last few weeks there have been a number of option evenings, information evenings and parent’s evenings, it has been lovely to meet with so many parents and have some really conducive conversations. Thank you also to those parents that showed your appreciation for a recent interview that I undertook with the South Gloucestershire Gazette, Over the last couple of weeks our Year 11 students have been taking their mock exams and after half term we will be launching our ‘100 days to the first exam’ plan. This will involve a lot of intensive support, including revision sessions in both lunchtimes, afterschool, at Easter and in May half term. Our Academy improvement plan (please see OFSTED section of the Website) is now well underway and recent conversations with a number of colleagues have been very complimentary about our progress so far. Many thanks for your continued support and I wish all of you a lovely, relaxing half term. Paul Skipp, Principal Yate International Academy

End of Term – Jumper Off

Drop Down Days

Bristol Soup Kitchen

On the last day of term, students were judged by their tutor, and the student with the best jumper was invited to take part in the cat walk JUMPER OFF.

Through the year there will be a number of ‘drop down’ days. This is to ensure we provide all the necessary PSHE and Careers advice for our students.

Martyn Poole from the Bristol Soup Kitchen came in to do an assembly our Year 8 Students.

The amount raised for the ‘Save the Children’ Charity was £489.

The students were then asked if they could help to bring in items which could be donated to the homeless people of Bristol over Christmas

The next ‘drop down’ day will be on the 7th March, where Yr 7,8, and 9 will be focussing on PSHE and Yr 10 and 11 will be involved in a Study Skill workshop Get Over it Campaign As part of our SMSC programme (spiritual, moral, social and cultural). The Academy will be using a different word each week. These words are aimed at themes and will be discussed during tutor time, along with other activities, debates and student voice. Lateness

Year 8 Student Receptionist Post

The Academy day starts at 8.45am. All students are expected to be in the Academy before the bell goes at 8.45am. Any student, who arrives after the bell, will be marked down as late and will receive a 20 minute detention on the same day. Please ensure you child arrives on time to the Academy.

The new Student Receptionist programme in year 8 has been in place since the beginning of term 3 and has been very successful. Students have enjoyed working with the reception staff throughout their day’s duty and have been engaged in a variety of different tasks. This has enabled students to broaden their insight and knowledge of how the school runs on a daily basis. All the students have earned Guild Points at the end of their day for Teamwork or Respect which are two of the new foci within the new Rewards Structure, also introduced this term. Well done and congratulations to all the students who have taken part thus far.

Year 11 Mocks The Year 11 Mock Exams ran smoothly with the students approaching this important event with great maturity.

SLT Surgery Teaching staff are now marking the exams and ensuring that they provide detailed and specific feedback to students to help them make the next steps towards reaching their target grades. In the week commencing Monday 22nd February, students will have an official “Results’ Day” and be presented with their results in line with the actual GCSE results on 25th August 2016. This will offer them a real practice run for the real event.

Monday 22nd February 4pm – 7pm Please come along to our Drop-In sessions and speak to a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this is an informal chance to have a cup of tea and to ask any questions that you may have. These surgeries run on the first day back following each holiday. Keeping up our appearance

Their results will include the “Next Steps” which staff have written and then it will be down to our students to put those actions in place. We have every confidence that they will take on board the advice given to achieve the very best that they can.

Whilst the standard of uniform has improved it is important that we maintain it. Recently there have been a few girls starting to wear the lycra style skirts that are simply too short. Can we remind you that these are not appropriate for school. Can we also ask that you ensure students have black leather shoes to wear.
