FOOD AROUND THE WORLD Damjan: Eunice, you come from El Salvador. Is the food in your country very different from the food in Slovenia? Eunice: Well, yes and no. We eat all kinds of meat, chicken, turkey, pork and beef. We also eat a lot of vegetables and what you call exotic fruit, like pineapple, mango, papaya, and so on. We also eat soup, but not very often. As a matter of fact, I seldom had soup at home but here, in Slovenia I eat it quite often, especially during winter. I like it because it warms me up. Perhaps I should mention the frog and iguana farms, where they raise the animals for food. We also eat a lot of fish, of course. In the past many people in my country ate turtles and turtle eggs, but not any more. Turtles are endangered and are now protected by law. Damjan: Natasha, what is the most popular food in your country? Natasha: Well, I come from Georgia, which is in the Unites States. We lead a very fast life so we don’t have much time for cooking. There are a lot of fast food restaurants and they sell a greater variety of food than here in Slovenia. You can have different kinds of burgers, salads, and soups. Chinese and Mexican fast food restaurants are also very popular. Not to mention the many Italian pizza places. Most Americans can’t imagine life without fast food restaurants. Damjan: Eunice, what is your favourite food here in Slovenia? Eunice: Oh, it’s ice-cream. Vanilla, pistachio and all types of fruit ice-cream. I think your ice-cream is the best in the world. It’s so soft and made from real fruit. Natasha: I agree. I like it, too. But I don’t like the beans over here.

READING FESTIVAL Reading Festival is the oldest and best rock festival in Britain. It started in 1960 when it was called the Jazz and Blues festival. In the 1960s, bands such as The Rolling Stones and The Who performed there. Since the year 2000 the festival has become a lot more commercial, but we are keeping the quality up, with a good range of bands performing, including, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam. This year’s Reading Festival won’t be any different. The festival will take place the last weekend in August, from Friday to Sunday, each day between 11.30 am and 10.30 pm. That means 11 hours of rock music on 5 different stages. The bands performing at this year’s festival will be announced at the end of March. The tickets will be priced at £150 plus booking fee. This includes a weekend ticket and camping. The tickets will be available from 31st March onwards. You can buy one-day passes as well, which will cost £55. You can pay in cash, but there will also be a credit card hotline which has not been released yet. We expect around 50,000 people at Reading each day, so book your ticket well in advance. You can travel to Reading by bus or train. The buses run every half an hour from London’s Victoria Station to the centre of Reading. Reading railway station is only about 25 minutes from London’s Paddington Station and the Reading train station is just a 10 to 15 minute walk from the festival. Shuttle buses from the station to the festival will run every 15 minutes or so. If you are travelling by car, exit the M4 at junction 11 and then follow the festival signs. There will be plenty of parking spaces. Don’t forget to bring a tent if you plan to stay at the festival for the whole weekend. Food can be bought at the campsite although it can be quite expensive, so it might be a good idea to buy some in the town centre. Well, I hope to see you all in August at the Reading Festival.
