EDITOR’S NOTE Hi Gators! I hope everyone is doing well in quarantine right now! Keep working hard in your club duties and be creative with the way you do things as this is an unconventional time for everyone. I know it is hard to stay involved in KIWIN’S and continually find opportunties for service but your effort will pay off... I promise! Anyways, enjoy this month’s newsletter and have a great rest of your day!

Yours in service, Ronald Lu Divisional Bulletin Editor

DISTRICT COMMITTEE Applications for the District Committee are closing soon on July 6th, 11:59 PM! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to meet new people and get a taste of what it’s like at the district level! You will get to work with those on District Board and hopefully gain the experience to apply for District Board in the future. The workload is not too harsh and you will grow lots in the process! docs.google.com/document/d/1-fRcKOnpNEmuXO3zdIOFddlxLXRUb5j97hx3qLHbkr0/edit

#KIWINSFORYOU Editors no longer have to submit ARF’s. Instead, the district has decided to use a new hashtag, #kiwinsforyou, to have as an archive of club activities. This new idea, inspired by the for you page on TikTok, is a way to keep track of what each club is up to through photos and videas on their club social media. It is recommended to post photos after every event and at least once a month. www.kiwins.org/officer-report-forms

LTG’S NOTE Hey Gators, I am honored and humbled to serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Goldstone KIWIN’S for 2020-21. I am always inspired and impressed by how outgoing, passionate, and hardworking our division is whenever I have the opportunity to meet you. During these times, we have faced many obstacles, challenges, and new lifestyles. Now that our school year and summer school are finally over, I hope we can take a break, sit back, and focus on our mental/physical health. During the past few months, there has been an increasing number of COVID-19 cases, social movements regarding racism in the black community, and new regulations about staying at home. Goldstone KIWIN’S does not condone nor tolerate racial injustice. As the KIWIN’S the 32nd district of Key Club International, our motto is “One Family. One Mission. One Word: KIWIN’S”, we are a student-led organization that promotes the development of character and leadership through community service within the Kiwanis family. It is through introspection and educating ourselves and others that we can stand against racial inequalities because we believe Black Lives Matter and we stand by the Black community. Moving forward, let’s always try to find brightness within the darkness. For the month of June we had Color-a-Smile, a joint service event with D35E, a successful OTC/DCM with 38 participants, and Cards to Our Heros! Lastly, Emma Chang, the IP District Governor, was elected International Trustee. Congratulations Emma! Let’s make it our goal to continue getting stronger and closer throughout this term. Thank you to all our members who are working hard! I hope we are taking precautions by staying home and wearing masks to flatten the curve. Let’s continue chomping through service Gators and see you guys soon. Chomping through for service, Juliana Miranda Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021

DISTRICT PROJECTS 2020-21

5

CNH KIWIN’S PROJECTS MAJOR EMPHASIS LIVE2LEARN This is a program that promotes education and builds literacy skills that is specifically focused on ages 5-9 years old. It implements education support structures to assist kids of all levels and abilities to develop and embrace key skills to improve the chances of kids getting at least some of the opportunities afforded to more fortunate contemporaries. It creates endless possibilities to strengthen the common goal of service.

MINOR EMPHASIS PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM It aims to raise awareness and funds to increase education about PTP and preventable accidents/injuries. The leading caused of death of children (infancy to 19 years old) in the US are motor vehicle accidents, physical abuse, drowning accidents, falls, and animal bites. It became a main focus of KIWIN’S in conjunction with California-Nevada-Hawaii Kiwanis in 1992. Our largest fundraiser for this is Fall Rally North and South!

GOVERNOR’S PROJECT UNICEF UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. Through the Coronavirus Children’s Appeal, UNICEF helps to respond, recover, and ultimately reimagine the effects of Covid-19 on children. In all of its work, UNICEF recognizes the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation.

CAUSE PARTNER & PREFERRED CHARITIY ELIMINATE PROJECT & TRICK OR TREAT ELIMINATE PROJECT The Eliminate Project’s goal is to get rid of the disease, Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT), that affects thousands of mothers and children worldwide. Every 15 minutes, a newborn baby dies from this disease. The newborn becomes too sensitive to light , sound, and contact that it cannot even experience a mother’s touch. The Eliminate Project has raised over $82 million since 2012 to help vaccinate mothers and babies against this deadly disease.

TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF Through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, Kiwanis International and UNICEF parnters up in an effort to battle Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.

COLOR-A-SMILE ZOOM CALL

KEVIN CHUNG’S DRAWING

COLOR-A-SMILE GOLDSTONE X D35E JOINT EVENT JUNE 21ST - 26TH Color-A-Smile is a nonprofit organization that distribute coloring pages to senior citizens, troops overseas, or anyone in need of some positivity. Division 35 East’s joint event with the Goldstone Division was quite nerve wrecking for me but so exciting because we were able to collaborate with the Goldstone KIWIN’S on this service project. On top of that, it was our first joint event of the term! This was an event that I was highly anticipating because Goldstone LTG Juliana and I had been planning

10

to collaborate for months and it wasn’t until this project that we were able to do so. It was so fun to meet some Gators and get to know our sister division a little more! Hopefully we’ll have more events together in the future! Written by Hilary Wong D35E Lieutenant Governor

POST-OTC KAHOOT

OTC/DCM

(OFFICER TRAINING CONFERENCE) JUNE 27TH OTC is where members of KIWIN’S get to know more about their positions. It helps members know what to expect and the responsibilities that come with it. Other people experienced in these positions go over the duties that come with it and commonly asked questions as well. Personally, OTC has helped me so much throughout my time in KIWIN’S. With not many people knowledgeable of the positions that I wanted, OTC helped me answer all the questions I had.

They went over certain goals that you should have and different ideas they had in mind. OTC is a huge and reliable resource that really contributes to how I run my positions throughout my terms. It’s an event that I truly recommend going to if anyone has even the slightest interest in running for a position.

HEY KIWIN’S! My name is June Han, a graduated senior and member of KIWIN’S for four years. Being a part of this amazing organization has brought great happiness into my life. From serving my community in diverse ways to meeting and making new friends, KIWIN’S provides you with so many opportunities to learn and grow. Moreover, you gain the leadership skills that are important within and outside of KIWIN’S. For me, I had so many memorable experiences through KIWIN’S and always felt motivated to go out to as many events as I could and repeatedly go out of my comfort zone. I wish that you guys would also feel this motivation, take risks, and become hardworking, dedicated members of this community. Considering the current situation we are in, we are not able to physically go out to service events. However, that should not stop your determination to serve! There are many opportunities to help out even from your home. Regardless of how difficult the circumstances may be, never let that dis-

INTRODUCING YOUR...

INTL. TRUSTEE! Hey Goldstone! It’s definitely been a long time since I’ve written something like this for Who’s Got The Gold and a lot has changed since then (for the better!). Serving as District Governor has been one of the highlights of my KIWIN’S journey and the cause of my favorite memories. While things have definitely not taken their typical course for the 2020-2021 term, your LTG Julianna has done such a wonderful job leading and serving our division. Don’t forget to thank her! Being such an active member and officer in Goldstone and KIWIN’S is ultimately everything that has led me to this point. As the Key Club International Summer Leadership Conference has concluded, I am proud to announce that I will be serving you as a new International Trustee. I am so honored to have this opportunity and will do my best this year to serve, lead, and grow our organization. Overall, I hope you are all staying safe and staying active in KIWIN’S!
