Cover Pup ATLAS Hi, I’m Atlas, or more formally known as Riverwaves Carries the Skies. My parents tell me I’m an old soul and the most serious puppy they have ever met! My favorite thing to do is play with my big sister Molly. I already love to work and will concentrate really hard to figure out what my parents want me to do for that cookie in their hand! I’m a really busy puppy learning all my manners, show training and obedience training. My mom can’t wait to bring me into the show ring and the obedience ring in the future! Altlas lives with Molly and Meagan Graham, and Osman Aganagic in Ottawa Ontario.

ThePresident’sLetter Another year of wonderful PWD club activities come to a close! Special thanks to all of our volunteers that make our club such a success. You are truly appreciated. We simply could not do it without you. So as many of you know, at the end of 2017 I will have completed my term as President. Thank you for your support over the past 4 years. It has been an honour to lead the club through some difficult times and also celebrate our successes. Karine Simard will be taking over in the New Year. Her passion for our breed and also her professional experience will provide solid leadership and the stability our club needs. We look forward to the National Specialty in May of 2018 as well as the completion of our judges’ education project. See everyone in the ring and in the water in 2018! Many blessings for 2018. Retirement happened for me in 2007 after a 37-year career with CIBC where I worked in Branches, Regional Offices, District Offices and in Head Office. I began as a Teller and worked in the I.T. Division, Human Resources, Project Work and retired as a Community Manager responsible for all aspects of 13 Branches and there was never a dull moment. I believe my organizational and management skills combined with my love for the breed will be an asset to the membership of the PWDCC. I am committed to breed excellence, health testing and collaboratively working together to grow our membership participation in all areas of our club.
TREASURER Pat Vokes, Nobleton, Ontario Ir has been my honour to serve as Treasurer for the PWDCC for the past five years and be an active member for ten years. My husband Roy and I have thoroughly enjoyed the fellow members we have worked with and the activities we have been involved with. My strengths are 35+ years of bank and bookkeeping experience and my love is water work and obedience training. Our Kelby achieved two qualifications at the Master Water Dog level and OTCh in Obedience. We hope that Mauzzi will follow in her footsteps and make us just as proud. I purchased my first purebred (Shetland Sheepdog) in 1991 and with her I was introduced to the world of dog shows. I trained and competed in Obedience and Agility for several years and travelled with good friend Lana Stewart (Armada Portuguese Water Dogs) to many dog shows. Together we enjoyed showing and handling all-breeds (Bouviers, Bichons, Min Pins, Labrador Retriever, Belgian Sheepdogs, and of course, PWD’s and Shelties to name a few). When we started our families we focused on that and therefore started only showing our own dogs (breeds). I’ve attended all the west coast PWD American and Canadian Nationals beginning in 1997, as well as the National in Michigan in 2015.

to also be committed to the goals of the PWDCC and support of our membership.
I acquired by first PWD in 1995 from Linda Fowler and bred her in 2000. That resulted in a puppy whose conformation, drive and focus led me into a whole new life; going to dog shows, Water and Agility trials and meeting many new friends (now not so new), travelling around the continent and to Europe experiencing the “dog life”. I have lived with two or three PWD’s at any given time since 2000 showing, going to water camps and Specialties as time permits. From my “civilian life” I have degrees in Engineering and Law having practiced in one or the other profession for 30 years. I find my legal background particularly useful in my work with the PWDCC. I look forward to being an active, contributing member of the PWDCC Board of Directors. This is a complete slate acclaimed on December 12th at the Annual General Meeting of the Club. Sniffingacrossthecountry… From Calgary, Alberta S CHUTZHUND C LUB O KTBERFEST T RIAL During the K9 Force Working Dog Oktoberfest Trial in Calgary, Alberta, Brenda Brown of Baywood Kennels and her PWD Gemma achieved their GSSCC Begleithund or 'BH' title with SV Judge Doug Deacon. This was a German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada event but we are proud to say Gemma is the first Portuguese Water Dog in Western Canada to earn this title (maybe even all of Canada, as we are having a difficult time confirming this) Gemma was also winner of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of Canada 2016 Canadian National SuperDog Versatility Award, #4 PWD in Canada CKC Obedience 2016 & #5 PWD in Canada CKC Rally 2015. PWDCA Water Trial Survey Quantative Survey Report December, 2017 Conclusions Interest in a new leel between WWD and CWD is extremely high. Eighty four percent in total (combining levels of interest) indicated some level of interest and half of these are very interested. In our experience, an action standard for moving ahead with an initiative is at least 25% ‘top box’. This survey has 42% which is very high, and 60% top two boxes. The open–ended reasons for interest rating suggest that the Purpose of the Survey

Emails were sent out to PWDCA, PWDCC and Regional Club members in the United States and Canada, inviting participation in the survey. The

P UPOGRA PHY Name: Holly (well formally, Seabury’s Holly Golightly)
Nickname: Bunny Date of Birth: January 18, 2017 Leader Of My Pack: Apparently Leo thinks he is, the truth is its always been me
Education: I was born smart Leisure Time Activities: Sitting on top of the Aussies, beating them up once in a while, then waiting for Leo to serve me some food
Pet Peeves: When Leo is late serving dinner, and icicles
Toys of Choice: My dad's other breed, the Aussies,
in my raw food, that drives me up the wall
proved to be wonderful chew toys
Favourite Non-Consumable: nothing to do with
Most ashamed of: When my butt hair grows too long,
leather, I believe I have chewed through 3 of my dad's belts,
I looked like an uncivilized homeless being
he will learn one of these days
Most proud of: My jumping ability, and my aim at Special Skills: Knock everything off the coffee table with
knocking whatever my dad is carrying out of his arms
one swoop of my beautiful tail. My dad referred to it as 'the damn thing'
What I Would Like To Be When I Grow Up: To be pretty forever
Biggest Catastrophe: When people called me a standard poodle, I so wanted to beat them up if my dad wasn't there to hold me back
Holly lives with Leo Hui, his pack of forbearing Aussies in Mississauga Ontario.
Bathing and Grooming Tolerance: At first I don't like it, and then I remembered I am a waterlog. Now I am cool with anything that makes me pretty.

Overall profit of $1,767.72 when combined with Water Camp. The Chuck Robinson award was presented to June Murdock Merchandise Roughly $800 of PWDCC merchandise was sold at the PWDCA. Boutiques were held late in the week and we feel that was a reason for purchases being low. Alberta Club The Water Trial in August had 37 entries (was more than the anticipated 44), and a profit of $888.01 was made. Alberta club would like to put some of these proceed towards the purchase of new oars along with repairs/maintenance to the trailer that tows the boats.
