CONCEPT BREAKDOWN THE PROBLEM: From our Primary Research, we found that many first year students, arrived without any understanding of the geography of Leeds. To gain that understanding, it would often take them up to two months to even know the names of these places, let alone go to them. When househunting, we found that we had an issue of knowing the whereabouts of local facilities as well as the distance it would take us to walk to university on an average day. Our househunting experience could have been made easier, had we known the areas to a fuller extent, therefore making a more informed judgement. This helps you to know where your money is going towards, when it comes to rent. THE SOLUTION: We have decided to redesign a selection of helpful products to encourage Freshers to explore Leeds. We wanted to stay clear of handing out leaflets, as this was one of the annoying items you would receive during Fresher's week, in which the reader wouldn't even consider engaging with or keeping. By giving someone useful products that they can reuse habitually, we can provide subconscious information about the areas in Leeds due to repitition of using the products. The function of the product will relate to something in Leeds, be it a bar, pub, club, Estate Agent or small art shop. This relation will be accessible through the information written on said product. If there isn't enough space for the information on the product itself, we will include a small flyer/leaflet containing information on the whereabouts of the venues.
