Overview Ever since becoming independent, Kazakhstan has shown strong economic growth and a rising amount of foreign investments.

An attractive business environment combined with a favorable geographical location makes this country an interesting market also for Swiss companies. Kazakhstan serves as an entry point in the Central Asia countries (Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan). In addition, Kazakhstan is a politically stable country since its independence and the country’s main goal is to diversify its economy. Due to the currently weak economy of the most important trade partners (mainly Russia) and the low oil price, Kazakhstan has encountered a slow-down in growth from 6% in 2013 to 4,3% in 2014. As a reaction, the Kazakh government has decided to launch a new investment program (“Nurly Zhol”) which is aiming at several industries such as infrastructure, food/food processing, chemical, machinery or construction. In addition, Kazakhstan will host the EXPO 2017 ("Future Energy") which also brings new business opportunities for foreign companies. This together with a rising middle class makes Kazakhstan an interesting location to do business. For 2015-2019, an average growth of 5-6% is expected (IWF). To gain an overview of this promising market, Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) together with the Swiss Embassy in Kazakhstan is organizing a Fact Finding Trip for Swiss companies.
