As we look to evolve and innovate in our classrooms, this past summer brought construction of a new space for the school’s Counseling Department. The expanded space features sound-proof offices for each counselor, a dedicated conference room for departmental meetings, expanded space for visiting college reps, and an attractive waiting area for guests. The improved office space for the counselors allows the department to better attend to the academic as well as the emotional and personal issues students face. “Our department aims to meet the academic, social, emotional, and career and college preparation needs of our students,” said Stephanie Spiewak ’02, Saint Viator’s counseling department chair. “This new space will allow us to better serve our students in a variety of ways.” The construction work was able to commence this summer thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor which kicked off an on-going fundraising effort. “Funding the Counseling space is one of our primary goals for this year,” said Vice President of Development, Tom Ramsden. “So many students have been helped in numerous ways over the years, so we hope that those graduates and their families will see this as a meaningful way to give back to Saint Viator.” “We are so grateful for the generosity of this individual and all those in the Saint Viator family who have helped us begin this process,” said Spiewak. “It allows us to continue to build on the foundation of our department and create supportive programs for students.”
