The alternate and Parallel roads of Madurai helps reduce traffic congestion on roads. The road pattern is radial with proper radial distances and ring distances Also, on considering the block sizes, the city is more walk-able and still 25% vehicle count on road is contributed by cycles. The Public transport doesn't have good ridership, this is because of the lesser ROW in core city (which constitutes of 55% of the city's population) causing first mile and last mile connectivity.
