The coastal areas are vulnerable to adverse impacts of climate change experienced through impacts on ecology, environment, economy, life and livelihoods of people. Counties have come up with their own adaptation and mitigation strategies relevant to their context. The objective of this course is to make the students aware about the vulnerability faced by the coastal areas in Sri Lanka and India, due to climate change, especially with reference to urban development, economy, tourism, housing and ecosystems. I studied the policies and programs formulated by the government to build-in resilience in human settlements so that the people in coastal communities are able to coup better with the disasters.
