Message From our 2016 RASM President, Linda, Formella New goals, new achievements, and true success, are only attained when working together with teamwork and dedication. I can say with pride that our lofty goals for 2016 were achieved, and I have nothing but appreciation and gratitude for those who have stepped up and made it happen. 2015 was our rebranding year; we merged into one strong and unified Association. We continued the practical work of that merger throughout 2016, paying careful attention to the needs of all our members, in both counties. We have engaged, motivated and reached out to all of our members. Through social media outlets, our website, and key RASM email marketing campaigns, we have connected with the membership and offered more valuable educational, networking opportunities and special events than ever before. We are no longer two Associations knit together but truly one strong voice of real estate, poised and ready for another wonderful year under the exemplary leadership of Xena Vallone. I am proud of our accomplishments this the year, and I was humbled and honored to be your President. It was an experience that I will never forget. I encourage those who are thinking about moving forward into a leadership role with the Association, to step forward and make it happen. You will be challenged, you will grow, you will learn and you will not regret it. You will find yourself surrounded by colleagues who want you to succeed and friends that will encourage you each step of the way. The experience, skills gained, and relationships forged will last a lifetime.
G N I V RD OVATE. MO A At the beginning of the year I could not have imagined how much we would RW IVATE. INN O accomplish, or what this past year would mean to me. Now that 2016 is coming to F OT .M an end, I can see the results of our hard work. We have a healthy membership of 6,500+ GE GA EN
and growing. You will find more of our accomplishments throughout this Annual Report, but here are some highlights.
The Professional Development Committee presented several designation courses, Boot Camp sessions, other general interest seminars, and held another successful Leadership Academy. Professional development was high on everyone’s minds, as evidenced by the seminars offered to members by the Business Partners, CID, Realtor® Attorney Joint Committee, and the Global Business Council. In fact, our Global Business Council was rewarded once again, for the second year in a row, by being named a Platinum Global Council by the National Association of Realtors®. Our Advocacy efforts began by interviewing local candidates to identify and support those Realtor® Champions who support issues important to Realtors® and their clients, as well as supporting several community issues, including the Manatee Sales Tax referendum. This was made possible because we raised over $128,000, achieving 117% of goal, with 20 members as Major Investors, and 21% of members investing in this important “insurance” for our business. Other highlights include the successful launch of a consumer-facing website: LiveInSarasotaManatee.com and our participation in several community outreach projects during the year including Tiny Hands, F.E.L.T., Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics and holiday gifts for Manatee Children’s Services. I have to thank the many efforts of our past leadership, including the 2014 SAR President Peter Crowley, and 2014 MAR President Sherry Grooms for their vision and leadership, and express my thanks to our 2015 President, Stafford Starcher, for his many efforts to merge our Association into the accomplished organization it is today. I need to thank the RASM leadership and staff for your dedication and service throughout the year and always. And last, but not least, I need to thank our membership for your enthusiasm, strong support, and countless committee volunteer hours throughout the year. It has been my great privilege to serve you during this amazing year. Here’s to an even better 2017!

2016 CID Highlights 2016 has been an amazing year for the RASM Commercial Investment Division (CID) under the leadership of President Tony Veldkamp, CCIM. The CID Annual Golf Tournament and fund raiser was a HUGE success! This year’s charity recipient was the Children’s Guardian Fund. The Children’s Guardian Fund partners with Guardian Ad Litem program to provide resources that fill the basic needs and enrich the lives of children living in foster care. The event was held at The Founders Club on October 24 and raised a total of $16,500! 100 percent of the proceeds went to charity.
On September 20, the CID held its annual Downtown Horizons breakfast at The Francis with area leaders Jim Bridges of Jebco Ventures, Joel Freedman of Freedman Consulting Group and Marlon Brown, Deputy City Manager of Sarasota. Each year, CID presents a panel of area experts on new business, real estate development and the future of Downtown Sarasota at their Downtown Horizons breakfast. The event was well-attended and provided insight on future planning initiatives with a developer’s and governmental perspective.

Building Analytics With an increasing number of intelligent analytics features now available in enterprise-grade WiFi networking equipment, organizations can leverage new and existing data to better understand foot traffic patterns and behavior. RASM has been tracking activity at both the North and South office locations in order to better plan for future growth and to understand the needs of our growing Association. Smartphones with WiFi can now be used as an indicator of customer presence thanks to a WiFi mechanism that is common across all such devices probe requests. These 802.11 management frames are transmitted at regular intervals from WiFi devices. The frames contain information that can be used to identify presence, time spent, and repeat visits within range of a WiFi access point.
79 / 30
Average Daily Visitors at each office: 79 at the South Office and 30 at North Office.
Since smartphones now have greater than 50% penetration across the general population, probe requests can be used to build and detect a statistically significant data set regarding the presence of WiFi enabled devices within range of a given access point. Cisco Meraki wireless APs and cloud infrastructure gathers this data and presents it in aggregate on the RASM Dashboard. The collection and use of location information has raised privacy concerns that have been reported in the media. Meraki is sensitive to these issues and has designed location analytics with privacy in mind. No personal identity information is gathered, and all presence, time spent and repeat visits are aggregated and randomized.

Community Outreach RASM Scholarship Recipients RASM awarded six $2,000 scholarships to deserving students from the community. Four of the six 2016 recipients were introduced and presented to members of the Association at the RASM Membership Luncheon on June 10. Every year, the Association awards up to six scholarships, as selected by the RASM Scholarship Committee. RASM is proud to provide this financial support to area students in an effort to sustain the future of both Sarasota and Manatee County. Since its founding in 2002, the RASM Scholarship Program has awarded $126,100 to deserving students. Pictured from left to right: Kaytlyn Korte, attending the University of Central Florida; Danielle Wilson, attending Emory University; Sixto Guerrero, attending the Florida State University, and Gianluca Marra, graduate of Sarasota Military Academy with plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Not pictured: Amanda Peebles, student at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Sydney Ring, a graduate from Suncoast Polytechnic High School with plans to attend Eckerd College in the fall prior to her start at Florida State University in the spring.
“Being a full time college student, it is well known that this level of education can be very expensive. The RASM scholarship has helped me immensely with my educational process and has assisted me on the pathway to my goals, especially in the real estate industry, which I could not be more thankful for. I believe when a community helps a young person like myself, it inspires that person to comeback and help the same community in the future.” Sixto R. Guerrero, attending Florida State University
“This scholarship meant a lot to me as it made me feel as if someone really noticed my hard work. Getting the scholarship from RASM helps lighten the financial burden, which allows me to better focus on my academics and less on how I am going to pay for my education. I truly appreciate knowing that others see how hard I’ve worked and that they want to reward me for putting in my effort. This scholarship helped make this year possible for me and my family and I am very appreciative.” Danielle Wilson, attending Emory University
“Personally, college was only attainable through scholarships such as the one I received from RASM. Words can’t explain how grateful I am for the wonderful people at Rotary Futures College Resource Center (who assisted with my scholarship search) and the generous individuals from RASM that were able to give me the resources I needed to pursue a dream I never thought I would be able to fulfill.” Kaytlyn Korte, attending University of Central Florida
“I am so grateful to be a recipient of a RASM scholarship this year. I grew up in Bradenton, and have attended school in Bradenton or Sarasota for my entire life. I am so glad we have so many options for education in this area. I am currently completing my last year of pharmacy school at LECOM in Lakewood Ranch. I have been so blessed to be able to complete all of my education in the area so I could live at home and save money while completing my degrees. This scholarship has meant so much to me and has truly helped me and my family.” Mandy Peebles, attending LECOM

Communications Committee 2016 was a big year for the RASM Website Subcommittee and the Communications Committee as they worked hard to create a new consumer-facing website named www.LiveInSarasotaManatee.com. The purpose of this site is to connect prospective residents to the beautiful and exciting counties we call home: Sarasota and Manatee. Consumers who visit the site can: • Discover our region, it’s history, arts and culture, and accolades • Get more information on residential neighborhoods, market statistics and commercial real estate • Learn about using a Realtor® and the difference between a Realtor® and a real estate agent • Find useful tools and resources for buying a home The content provided is developed and maintained by both the RASM Website Subcommittee and the Communications Committee. Be on the lookout in 2017 for more content and exciting additions to the website!
