Lucy Ledger Designs Lucy Ledger Designs evolved following Lucy’s own big day last Christmas time. Having created and designed all of the stationery herself (which, by the way, was totally gorgeous) Lucy decided to begin her own company and ventured into the world of weddings and stationery. Boasting a unique, personal service with an incredibly creative edge, Lucy Ledger Designs is perfect for any style of wedding from the utterly off the wall creative to traditional garden parties and cute floral themes. Based right here in the East Midlands, Lucy is, in our opinion, one of Sheffield’s best kept secrets ... until now. You can get in touch with Lucy on the following:

Prepare to be blown away We at Save the Date magazine meet a lot of photographers and by a lot, we mean a lot - from traditional, to totally off the wall, one man bands to large companies and then, every now and again, the downright fabulous. And, in our opinion, Rachael Connerton Photography put the ‘F’ into Fabulous. Not just in their photography but also in their service, their professionalism and their overall style. A husband and wife team, Rachael and Ian work together to create the most stunning photography for their clients and through our own experience, deliver the most incredible results.

Having worked with Rachael since the inception of Save the Date, we have been blown away by her work ethic and standards of service she provides for her clients. However, it’s one thing looking through a photographer’s albums (which are of the most fabulous Queensberry variety might we add), chatting over the phone and meeting for coffee, it’s another being on the other side of their camera lens and witnessing their work for yourself. Yes, the Save the Date girls have had a photoshoot …. And not because we’re trying out the new facebook profile picture craze but because we’re about to
launch our new website and need for our lovely readers to put a face to the name. So, having met with Rachael at Wollaton Park on a lovely spring-like afternoon, we were slightly nervous at the prospect of a ‘photo shoot’ but were immediately put at ease with Rachael’s calming influence and gentle nature. We were both asked to pose for a range of pictures and quickly became extremely relaxed and began to enjoy the whole experience; laughing and joking with Rachael, trying desperately to make one another laugh with stupid dances to get the other to perform a ‘natural’ laugh on camera and generally just having lots of fun with the lovely Rachael. A few days later, an email popped into our inbox from Rachael Connerton with the subject ‘Photographs – Wollaton Park Shoot’ and we became very excited, if a little anxious at what the result would be. Quite picky twenty something year
olds, we like to look our best and tend to delete more pictures of ourselves from our cameras than put in frames so the chances of us both agreeing on our favourite photographs was quite slim. So, at the end of the slide show of over 80 images, some of Lydia, some of Abbi and some both together, we gave each other a big grin and felt pretty smug about ourselves – finally, we were not scrutinising each image, picking faults and worrying about how fat/thin/pale/ short etc we were. In fact, we were totally spoilt for choice. Having debated for over an hour about which images we could shortlist to use on our website, we decided to ask Rachael to burn the entire album to a CD as the choice was just too hard. Genuinely shocked at the great result of the images, we asked Rachael what her secret was and were assured there was no airbrushing or tampering with the images; just good light and
obviously, an extremely talented photographer. Result. And that was just our short experience of the wonderful Rachael Connerton Photography. For their wedding clients, there really is no stone left unturned; from the pre wedding shoot to calm the couples nerves and get them used to the camera, to the perfectly personalised service, world class Queensberry albums, stylish photography, unobtrusive style and exceptional results.
And, don’t forget, the Save the Date website re-launches with a whole new look and an interactive hub of activity at the beginning of May so head to www.savethedatemagazine.co.uk and see the results from our photoshoot for yourself! And, in case you’re wondering, the Save the Date girls are below (brunette - Lydia and blonde - Abbi)!
Your wedding photographs are such a lovely memento from your day and are so incredibly important so why not opt for the absolute best of the best and treat yourself to the fantastic service Rachael Connerton Photography provides? If she can make even the most scrutinising and particular clients in us totally blown away, this woman can work wonders.

GETTING TO KNOW
karina@nextgen-photography.co.uk
T utbury Castle is
an 11th. century royal castle sitting in the heart of England in rural Staffordshire. Perched high on a hill overlooking the green Dove valley below, it has one of the most glittering histories of any castle in the British Isles. Built by order of William the Conqueror himself, it grew into a breathtaking fortified town and welcomed some of the great names such as John Of Gaunt, who made it one of his main residencies, the Black Prince, Queen Margaret of Anjou, King Henry VIII and was prison four times of the tragic Mary Queen of Scots. A place for Kings and Queens and now brides and grooms. During the English Civil War the castle was attacked but still leaves a romantic medieval ruins and the complete state apartments of King Charles 1st, including the Great Hall which is licenced for weddings as is the Garden tea room. Over the last nine years the castle has proved to be in the
karina@nextgen-photography.co.uk
top three venue choices for the whole of Staffordshire and has a reputation for the highest quality service. Recently, Maverick have been appointed the new catering and food events company at the castle. Maverick have in-house innovative chefs that produce freshly cooked restaurant standard food, stylishly presented and service that will make the perfect day even more perfect. The marquee is stunning and is supplied by Bond Marquees with white drapes and chandeliers and a starlight ceiling over the dance area. The marquee windows look out over the castle compound and Dove Valley with views and sunsets that have graced many magazine covers. The castle curator is also TV Historian Lesley Smith who has introduced some unique wedding ideas. Midnight weddings are on offer at Tutbury Castle in the form of a medieval Handfasting with knights in armour, ground torches and a great basket of fire so the couples can take their vows under the stars. The Handfasting ceremony, although not legally binding, was the form of marriage in the early 15th century. It can be booked to accompany a civil wedding or partnership and can also be arranged earlier in the day so couples
can be outside in the grounds following the legal ceremony. The castle marquee can also be booked independently following a Church service for a reception and is popular for couples who have married abroad and seek more wedding photographs and a family celebration with a broad range of family and friends in England. Couples can also make the choice to be married at Tutbury Castle without a reception or choose to have a small reception in the Great Hall for up to 38 guests. Said Lesley Smith “This is so beautiful and we have had some incredible weddings here both large and small and we are absolutely committed to ensuring each couple feels unique and has the day they have dreamt of. Those who marry at Tutbury Castle go into the castle records for the next thousand years and become part of the very fabric that is Tutbury Castle. Captivating indeed. Spirits High Entertainments - Revolutionizing the ‘Wedding DJ’ We’ve all been to one of those weddings or parties where the DJ arrives and it’s finally time for you to hit the dancefloor and party the night away, when the Birdy song begins to play and you know you’re in for a long night! Well, fear no more – cheesy DJ’s are a thing of the past and here we bring you a revolution in the art of discotheque – Spirits High Entertainments. Having developed a fantastic, integrated system into their website, Spirits High Entertainments are taking the DJ circuit by storm, performing regularly at venues such as Shottle Hall, Ringwood Hall and Hardwick Hall. The system works whereby clients are provided with unique log-in details, taking them through to their personalised event schedule, giving them total control over the entertainment at their event. With
the facility to enter all the details of their forthcoming wedding day, including timings, first dance details and lots, lots more, you can be assured that Paul Thompson of Spirits High Entertainments has everything covered to ensure your wedding or event runs like clockwork. Having researched and evaluated the system, we at Save the Date magazine were most excited by the song selection facility. This works whereby the client types in any artist and any song and the system locates that particular song and adds it to their ‘playlist’. With over 70,000 songs forming the directory, clients have the opportunity to ensure each and every song played on the night is just perfect. Guests of the wedding or event can also join in the fun and, having been given their own log-in details, they can add to the playlist and choose songs they would
like to be played. However, just in case of any unwanted requests, the client has overall control and can therefore delete any inappropriate songs. Paul also arranges a one to one chat with each of his clients to discuss any special requests they may have. A real ‘people person’, Paul sees this as a vital part of the planning process as, although the system covers all it needs to, Paul likes to engage with his clients and build a rapport before the day itself. So, with a personable service, an impressive integrated system and a highly experienced and qualified DJ (not to mention, at a surprisingly cost effective rate), the Birdy song is officially history and, with Spirits High Entertainments, you can relax safe in the knowledge that both you and your guests are going to have the time of your lives!

SPOTLIGHT ON
Cakey Wakey Baked to perfection
A gift from her mother in law 16 years ago in the shape of a part work magazine on cake making and decorating, was the start of a new chapter in Joanne Wakefield’s life - this was the beginning of the Cakey Wakey journey. With a vast library of books and magazines, Joanne has amazingly taught herself everything she knows about the art of cake making and decorating. A highly successful cake business, Cakey Wakey boasts a great portfolio of work, from traditional sponge and fruit cakes, to celebration cakes, cookie favours, cupcakes and toppers. With a real passion for cakes and of course weddings, Joanne works from home and ensures each and every one of her clients receive a personal, one-to-one service. From the initial consultation where Joanne discusses the requirements,
from colour schemes to flavours, toppers to presentation, everything is captured right from the start. A true perfectionist, Joanne always hand delivers her wedding cakes to the venue and places them in position herself to ensure it looks just perfect. When it comes to toppers, Joanne has a real talent for creating an uncanny resemblance of an individuals’ look through the art of icing and sugar which begins with a photograph of the couple being taken at the consultation for Joanne to recreate as cute toppers for the cakes. Recent toppers have included a dog digging through the cake and a bride and groom sat eating
cupcakes, covered in crumbs – nothing is too off the wall for Cakey Wakey! Now, with more and more demand for fabulous and highly creative wedding cakes, Joanne is busier than ever but still ensures she retains her high standards of service, with everything totally homemade, boasting the adorable catchphrase “The only preservatives in our cakes is in the jam”. Joanne, we couldn’t agree more. To get in touch with Cakey Wakey, please visit www.cakey-wakey.co.uk or call 0115 9611 277 23

VENUE UPDATE
English country garden chic Bond Marquees, renowned for their chic, elegant and stylish structures, positioned at a scattering of fabulous venues, are launching a new concept in the form of a vintage pole marquee. Totally unique and a refreshingly different approach, this traditional, retro style of marquee is sure to appeal to the increasingly popular ‘English Country’ outdoor style weddings with lots of character and a vintage twist. You can imagine it now; English strawberries and cream, served with a cool glass of Pimms and lemonade on the lawns with guests playing croquet and classic bunting blowing in the breeze, with a beautifully handcrafted vintage pole marquee in the background. With a traditional and typically ‘English’ feel to it, the marquee will come with everything you would expect, including dance floor and bar area, plus space for up to 180 people for a sit down
dinner. With classic vintage becoming more and more popular for weddings, a vintage pole marquee is ideal to demonstrate a traditional and charming theme, oozing with character and great for decorating and styling with unique pieces to really set the scene. Recognised for the standard and quality of their marquees, Bond Marquees are ensuring their new vintage pole structure will retain everything that is already great about their current venues, but just with an extra special twist. Five Reasons
Why You Should Listen To The Groom’s Weird Wedding Ideas One of the main accusations that gets thrown at grooms’ wedding planning ideas is that, well, they’re often a bit weird. He wants to wear an Elvis jumpsuit, or have thrash metal as the arrival music, you know the sort of thing. As the UK’s leading men’s wedding website we thought we should try and mount a defence of why you should listen to some of the groom’s weirder planning tips, here’s what we came up with…
32
1) He Wants To Say His Vows In Klingon Klingon is an incredibly efficient language, did you know that it only has one word for the colours green, blue and yellow? Think of how much time that would save when planning the colour scheme of a wedding. APPROVED.
3) He Wants To Arrive In the TARDIS Firstly, impress him by revealing that you know that TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space; then say yes, on the condition that you can have the reception in it afterwards, that thing could comfortably seat 250. APPROVED.
2) He Wants You To Dress As 0RINCESS ,EIA (UTT 0RISONER %RA Yes, it’s a bit weird that he wants you to dress in a metal bikini and stick Danish pastries on your head, but it’s only because he thinks you would look super hot and as long as he’s not dressed as Skywalker (that’s her brother, remember?), where’s the harm? If you absolutely have to refuse, why not promise it to him for the honeymoon? PART-APPROVED.
4) He Wants To Write His Wedding Vows In HTML Geek wedding vows are all the rage and if your bloke is a bit of a nerd then what’s wrong with him expressing himself as only he can – it means it’s from the heart. APPROVED.
Staggered is the UK’s leading men’s wedding website offering help and advice to grooms, best men and fathers of the bride. Whether it’s men’s wedding suits, stag-do ideas or perhaps some help with engagement rings, men involved in weddings need to look at www.iamstaggered.com.
(E 7ANTS ! 4EAM OF %WOKS 4O Re-enact the Forest Moon of %NDOR 0ARTY 3CENE Ok, that is odd. You’re either going to have to find really compliant children or go to a specialist casting agency and either way that’s going to cost you. DENIED.

PJ AND KELLY: The Story Continues ... How have you found the whole wedding planning process? Manic, but fun. You initially think that it is going to be the ‘big’ decisions that will be the toughest - i.e. the venue/the dress etc but it is actually the ‘little’ logistical decisions that are the most stressful- who’s going to sit where? What will the kids eat?....I think you forget sometimes that the day is supposed to be for you and not your million-and-one guests!! What an experience though.... What has been the most fun part of planning your wedding? Kel: The menu tasting rocked.....just topped however by my dress fittings...it’s not often that someone makes you a dress... PJ: Seeing Kel’s perfect dream day come together nicely - cost me a fortune though, but all worth it!!! Have you had any problems or stresses along the way? Kel: Oh god yeah....PJ keeps telling me to chill out so I can actually enjoy some of it!!! PJ: Nope, loved it. Been down the golf course most of the time!!! Our parents have helped keep us calm and relaxed.....
How many hours, on average, per week do you think the two of you spend planning the big day!? Kel: I can honestly say that for the past 6 months, I have probably thought about ‘the wedding’ 70-80% of the time that I am awake!!! PJ: What big day???!!! ;) Seriously though, I have thought about it a lot, I have decided to watch the world cup final round my mates....;) Have either of you had any reoccurring dreams/nightmares about the day itself? Kel: Hell yes...my dress is always dirty and we’re always so late that everyone has gone home!! PJ: Surprisingly yes!! I often wake up and think that the day and night is over... and I am secretly gutted....I really cannot wait!!! How has PJ got in with his three big responsibilities; the three S’s - suits, stags and his speech!? Suits - Done...yummy fitted night-blue suits for me and my 3 best men; quality black and white suits for my 4 ushers....had a bit of a nightmare with the Stag - 25 of us were off to Malta (organised by one of my Best Men)but then the blooming volcano went off and
we couldn’t fly....so instead we basically went on a little tour, starting with a heavy night in Brum, then up to Leeds for a night of carnage, finishing it all off with a night in Newcastle... BLOOMING BRILLIANT.....Speech...I have always thought that I’m a decent public speaker, so although I know certain things that I DEFINITELY want to say, the rest will, and I know it sounds soppy, will just come straight from my heart... Which supplier in your opinion, has really stood out and pulled out all the stops for you? There’s always one which goes that extra mile! The venue has been great, especially the lovely Katherine. Julie, the Wedding Genie, is literally worth her weight in gold...after that then we can honestly say they have all been amazing...Rose with her flowers, Bridget with her candelabras and Dave Clarke and Fishy with the music and vid...we truly have been blessed...thanks guys and girls!!! What are you most looking forward to once the wedding is over? Kel: Babies...oh, and honeymoon... PJ: The golf on our honeymoon....and spending the rest of my life with one of my best mates......

Eden Hall
A slice of paradise
By Lydia Vernon
pa mple Eden Hall Day S sa i bb A d an ia yd L 1st April 2010 During my travels around Nottinghamshire, I have often driven past the beautiful faรงade of Eden Hall in all its glory and wondered whether the spa experience would be as impressive as the exterior hints at. So, when planning my own trip to the spa, I must say, I was a little more than excited. Having viewed the website a fair few times, ) COULDN T WAIT TO SLIP INTO A mUFFY BATHROBE and relax the day away.
Upon entering the reception area, Abbi and I were greeted by a smart waiter serving glasses of juice and water – such a nice touch and a lovely, warm welcome. We were then met by a friendly receptionist who talked us through how the day works, handing us a map of the building and giving us our locker key and code. As we walked towards the changing area, soothing music playing in the background, we located our designated locker and changed into our dressing gown and slippers. Having been handed our agenda containing our personalised schedule, we had an hour before our treatment time and decided to use the time to explore. Map in hand, we peeked inside the slumber lounge (a Moroccan themed, tranquil haven with bean bags and huge cushions for snoozing), discovered the gym and fitness area (very stylish and complete with a huge range of equipment) and visited the beauty shop. We then finished our tour in the Palm Conservatory, filled with sunshine and bursting with atmosphere and lots of relaxed people, all matching in their sumptuous white dressing gowns. We decided to take a seat and enjoy a cup of tea before our treatment and so spent twenty minutes relaxing and getting excited for our eagerly anticipated body wraps.
Having both been called through to our respective treatment rooms for an Elemis body wrap (Abbi) and Thalgo body wrap (myself), we were treated to over forty minutes of pure bliss. Then, complete with silky smooth skin and a totally refreshed feeling, we were lead through to the garden lounge to recuperate and float back down to Earth. Once back in the world of the living, we had two hours before our lunch and so headed straight for the aqua detox centre for a true spa experience. Beginning with the rose infused steam room, we then cooled off with the ice buckets and massage jets before sampling the sauna and salt marine rooms. We finished with the herbal caldarium then took a stroll outside to the whirlpools and spent half an hour being pummeled by the jets and enjoying the fresh outdoor breeze. A brief swim in the pool, we had then worked up an appetite and were ready to experience the 7th Heaven restaurant. With three courses and a selection to choose from, you would think that would be more than enough to satisfy the largest of appetites but the 7th Heaven restaurant go one step further with a huge ‘help yourself’, gourmet salad bar complete with every salad item you could imagine. One word; wow.
Having totally over indulged, we decided we were ready for a rest (well, after all, we’d had a very strenuous day!) and so revisited the slumber lounge and spent an hour snoozing on an oversized bean bag, amongst lots of other dressing gown clad dozers. What a wonderful way to sleep off such an amazing lunch. Having woken from our afternoon doze, we took another dip in the pool then decided, being as it was approaching 5pm, we should think about leaving. So, we managed to prise our beloved dressing gown off and spent twenty minutes in the hot power shower, complete with luxurious toiletries before changing back into our clothes and heading back to reality. Having left the car park and rejoined the A46, I once again drove past the incredible façade of Eden Hall Day Spa, safe in the knowledge that yes, it is as amazing as it looks. In fact, it’s even better than you could imagine. Eden Hall Day Spa is available FOR PACKAGES -ON 3UNDAY and offers group rates for hen PACKAGES AND GIRLY DAYS OUT For more information, contact 01636 525555 OR VISIT WWW EDENSPA CO UK
