”
In early 2003, I experienced a fortuitous “early life crisis.” I learned that, indeed, money does not create happiness. This realization caused me to make some major changes in my life and commit to prioritizing happiness. I left my hedge fund career and started a company with a mission of happiness . . . and Schell Brothers was born. It's hard to believe it’s been over 20 years since the founding of Schell Brothers, and it has been an incredible journey. We’ve had our ups and downs but our sincere commitment to our mission seems to always carry us through. This year I am pleased to announce we received the highest honor awarded to a U.S. Homebuilder . . . we were named Builder of the Year by ProBuilder Magazine, the official publication of the National Association of Home Builders. As proud as I am of this accomplishment, what I am most proud of is the company we have created and the people who comprise it. A true dedication to putting happiness first has created a company and culture that far exceeds my wildest dreams."

Farmhouse style has gained popularity in the last decade, thanks to a variety of decorating shows and helpful DIY videos. If you’re looking for an update to this ever-so-popular look, Jenn Moore of Décor Direct is here with a breath of fresh salt air to keep the style current. Coastal Farmhouse is the perfect style for any location, incorporating a harmonious array of earth tones, natural components, and organic textures. Achieve the look by blending an equal mix of coastal features such as stripes, wicker, and light hues with rustic farmhouse elements that include metals, leather, and distressed wood. Pull it all together with gold-framed artwork, vintage glassware, a wooden trunk, or other favorite pieces.
DO: Use airy, light, and uplifting colors. DON’T: Add colors that are saturated or overly bold. When embracing the Coastal Farmhouse style, focus on light hues and earth tones. Use graceful shades of watery blues, seafoam, sage, brown, and sandy beige. And, when it comes to color, think beyond the walls. A crisp white linen sofa or bedspread is an easy way to lean into the relaxed nature of it all.

JENN’S FAVORITES Coastal Farmhouse Paint Colors
Pure White SW7005 An inviting, clean white
Sea Salt SW6204 A seaglass color that goes with everything—a true chameleon
DO: Keep the look cohesive.
Repose Gray SW7015 A greige that pops with white and wood tones
DON’T: Be afraid to mix metals. Using metal finishes is the perfect way to bring on the Farmhouse. While you want to keep your look unified, don’t be afraid to incorporate an assortment of finishes. Juxtaposed with an iron chandelier, a little brass on the cabinet knobs can add a special touch that brings the look together.
DO: Make your built-ins the star of the show. DON’T: Overcrowd the shelves.
Evergreen Fog SW9130 A warm green perfect for all spaces
Built-ins provide the center stage for showcasing interesting coastal elements such as driftwood and colorful décor, along with farmhouse accents in the form of ceramics, decorative beads, and woven baskets. But don’t get carried away. Leave room for the eye to explore, and vary the scale of items used. The rule of three always makes for a perfect combination.
DO: Add texture where possible—and mix it!
Stardew SW9138 The ideal moody blue
DON’T: Be afraid to throw in a stripe or plaid. Woven wood shades are an effective way to add coastal flair while providing the function of privacy and light control. And, along with serving as an ideal layering tool, a jute rug pairs politely with almost everything!

1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar (plus ¼ cup for

½ cup brown sugar
Large and mini chocolate

chips
INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 375˚F. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, combine butter, sugars, and peanut butter until creamy. When mixed well, add the egg and vanilla. Then add in the flour mixture. After combining, roll the dough into 1 ½-inch balls. Place ¼ cup of sugar in a separate bowl beside your cookie dough. Roll each ball in the bowl of sugar, just enough to coat the outside. Assemble the cookie balls a few inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes. While the cookies are baking, open the chocolate chip packages. When baking is complete, remove trays from the oven. To make bear paws, press one large chocolate chip into the cookie and add 3 or 4 mini chips for the toes. Place the tray back in the oven for about 20 seconds, just long enough to let it set. Then remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on a baking rack.

INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 300˚F. Boil pasta according to package directions, then drain and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, whipping cream, and 1 pound of cheddar cheese. Microwave and stir at 30-second intervals until the mixture is smoothed into a sauce. Add flour to thicken, if needed. Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce in the mixing bowl, then stir in evaporated milk and eggs. Mix well. Using a large casserole dish (5-6 quart) or turkey roasting pan, spoon in one-fourth of the pasta/cheese mixture and top it with ¼ pound grated cheddar cheese and ¼ pound shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layering 3 times, making sure to end with cheese on top. Place dish in oven and bake for approximately 45 minutes. Serve warm with a bowl of Southern Tomato Casserole on top, if desired. CHEF TIP: To add crunch on top, mix panko bread crumbs and grated Parmesan cheese with some olive oil to create a crumble. Spread the crumble onto the dish for the last 10-15 minutes of baking or until the top becomes crispy.

INGREDIENTS: 4 cups sifted flour 2 teaspoons baking powder
4 large eggs, at room temperature
½ cup sugar
Vegetable oil for frying
¼ pound butter, at room temperature
2 pounds, honey
1 teaspoon pure vanilla
Sprinkles
INSTRUCTIONS: Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix in butter, vanilla, and eggs; then knead slightly into a dough. Form dough into a ball and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight or at least one hour, giving dough time to rest and become easier to roll. Place the chilled dough ball on a floured board or marble top. Slice and roll dough into ½-inch ropes and cut pieces into small balls the size of marbles. Heat vegetable oil to 350˚F in a deep frying pan. Slowly place dough balls into the oil and cook until golden brown. Remove balls with a strainer spoon and place them in a colander lined with a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Warm honey in a pot on low heat. When honey is warm, pour balls into the pot and mix gently with a spoon until all sections are covered with honey. Remove honey-coated Struffoli balls and place them on a platter in a circle or mound. Add sprinkles and enjoy! To store and serve later, cover Struffoli with plastic wrap or place in a sealed container. Add extra honey as needed. CHEF TIP: When arranging Struffoli, you can use a small glass for the center and place balls around to resemble a wreath— or pile them upward to create a tree.

HOW DID YOU END UP IN LEWES? T: I grew up outside Wilmington, Delaware, and our family often vacationed in Rehoboth. When I was in middle school, my parents bought a small home in Oak Orchard for $15,000 and I lived there the summer after my sophomore year in college while waiting tables at the Rusty Rudder. Needless to say, I had fun. Lots of fun. Maybe too much fun. I hadn’t been back to the beach much since college, until I visited my sister who had moved to Rehoboth in 2002. That’s when Glyn and I fell in love with the beach area all over again. We researched the real estate market that weekend and soon bought a condo at The Villages of Five Points. From then on, we’ve felt a connection to the beautiful, quiet town of Lewes, which

Kindness EXTREME
When Extreme Makeover: Home Edition came knocking on the door of a tiny soup kitchen in Rehoboth
back in 2011, the Delaware beach community responded in the only way they knew how: with a big heart. Donating thousands of dollars and countless volunteer hours for the week-long endeavor, the community came together to support a beloved local hero. While you might think the most dramatic transformation was the one-week creation of two homes, an industrial-style kitchen, a storage shed, and a pavilion— during a hurricane, an earthquake, and a tornado—the biggest impact is actually still happening every day, thanks to Dale Dunning.
50 | at home with Schell Brothers
Even if you’ve only lived in the Delaware beach area for a short time, you’ve probably heard of the soup lady. Since 1999, Dale Dunning has been getting up before dawn to nourish those who need it most, opening 24 soup kitchens in the process. Driven by a simple Bible passage, “If you love me, take care of my sheep,” Dale and husband, Ken, shattered the traditional depiction of soup kitchens, creating spectacular places that nourish body, mind, and spirit. In the wee hours of the morning when most of us are fast asleep, Dale is already deep into her work at Jusst Sooup Ranch, fueling an arsenal of 20 crock pots that will serve people throughout the community. Along with providing food for four shelters, her labor of love reaches veterans, local workers, struggling families, and others who are food insecure

throughout the region. For the Dunnings, a typical week allows little time for anything beyond shopping for supplies, cooking food, and getting it where it needs to go. Thursday is the most eventful day, when Dale rises just after midnight to prepare for hours of fellowship at the Milton soup kitchen, with many attendees arriving as early as 7:30 a.m. Each feast
