Um Ihren Besuch zum Highlight werden zu lassen, haben wir spezielle Tipps und Themen für Sie zusammengestellt. Die traditionellen Fischer- und Kapitänsfeste (S. 11) in Lovran sollten Sie auf keinen Fall verpassen. elcome to the third edition of “Enjoy Opatija”! Although, July a great month to enjoy swimming, we prepared again a lot of fun and activities for you. In order to have lots of highlights in your visit, we have special tips and topics made for you. The traditional fishermen and captain feasts (p. 11) are the events in Lovran you should not miss. Fresh fish and live music are very important on the riviera! If you are a fan of jazz music (p. 5) you have found yourself in right place at right time in Opatija and Kastav (p. 6) where you can join music lovers at jazz festivals. The middle of the month is reserved for another great transformation of Opatija during the event “Imperial City” (p. 4). We sincerely suggest you not to miss this spectacle! In the “Kids Corner” (p. 14), we visited another beach for kids with a playground. There is also a colorful children’s program for this month. ie Brüder Lumière, die in Opatija filmten. Die Tänzerin Isadora Duncan, die vom Zittern der Palmwedeln im Morgenwind inspiriert wurde. Die Kaiserin Sissi, die Opatija offiziell nie besuchte, sich aber mit ihrem Geliebten in den örtlichen Villen versteckte. Diese und viele weitere Berühmtheiten aus der Geschichte Opatijas werden im Juli wieder lebendig: Bei der Veranstaltung „Kaiserstadt“ verwandelt sich Opatija für zwei Tage in eine große Freilichtbühne. An verschiedenen Schauplätzen gibt es Theater und Musik-Aufführungen, bei denen die Besucher die Möglichkeit erhalten, sich mit der Geschichte dieser Stadt – die auch einige Geheimnisse birgt – vertraut zu machen. Erleben Sie aus erster Hand, warum Opatija ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel vieler berühmter Persönlichkeiten war und bis heute geblieben ist und spüren Sie den Hauch vergangener Zeiten, in denen sich Opatija zu einem angesehenen Urlaubsort entwickelte.

he Lumière brothers, who used to film in Opatija; Isadora Duncan, who danced inspired by the fluttering of palm leaves in the breeze; the Empress Sissi, who officially never visited Opatija, but used to hide here in a villa accompanied by a lover – all of them, and many other famous people from the history of this town, come back to life in mid-July during the Imperial Town festival. This event combines music and theatre at various locations, transforming Opatija into one big stage for a fantastic spectacle with thousands of visitors. During the two days of the event, visitors will have the chance to learn more about Opatija’s history and some of its secrets. See yourself why this town has become and remained a favourite, a destination for many celebrities, and feel the spirit of the time when Opatija began its rise to the throne of European tourism. The event Opatija – the Imperial Town takes place all over the town centre and along the main street, and also on the seafront promenade and in the magnificent parks and impressive villas.

Liburnia Jazz Festival 2016
S
eit Jahren gilt das Liburnia Jazz Festival als Top-Event für kroatische und europäische Jazzliebhaber. Im Rahmen des am ersten Wochenende im Juli stattfindenden Festivals werden sowohl etablierte, weltweit berühmte Jazz-Musiker präsentiert, ebenso wie junge Künstler, deren Talent international bislang noch unentdeckt ist. Während des Festivals ist die Jazz-Musik auf vielen Terrassen in der Stadt und am Meer zu hören, denn entlang der Küste fährt das populäre „Jazz Boat“. Der Höhepunkt jedes Festivaltages ist der Auftritt namhafter Jazzmusiker auf der Freilichtbühne.

etrOpatija bringt die 1950er, 1960er, 1970er und 1980er Jahre zurück nach Opatija, eine Zeit, als die Stadt für ihre Feste und Unterhaltung berühmt war. Ein Hauch der „guten alten Zeiten“ wird von zahlreichen Künstlern in kleinen Musik- und Theaterstücken zum Leben erweckt, welche die Hauptstraße, den Park Angiolina und das Open-Air-Theater in eine Oase der Mode, Musik & Tanz des vergangenen Jahrhunderts verwandeln werden. Die ganze Stadt wird zu einer Bühne mit Swing, Rockabilly und Disco, sie wird zum Mitsingen in Friede und Freiheit verleiten, die diesen Teil der Zeitgeschichte auch in dieser Stadt bestimmte. Diese musikalische Reise endet im Open-Air-Theater mit einer großen Disco-Party bis spät in die Morgenstunden.

or a number of years, the Liburnia Jazz Festival has been a reference event for Croatian and international jazz lovers. On the first weekend in July, it presents established jazz musicians, world-famous artists as well as promising young musicians whose talent has not yet been internationally discovered. During the festival, jazz music can be heard all over the town, from various terraces and even from the sea, more precisely from the popular Jazz Boat that sails along the coast. etrOpatija brings back the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s back to Opatija, the time when the city was famous for its festivals and entertainment. A touch of the good old times will be brought to life by numerous artists in small musical and theatrical plays, which will turn the main street, the Angiolina Park and the Open Air Theatre into an oasis of fashion, music and dance of the past century. The whole town will become a stage featuring swing, rockabilly and disco, singing along in abandon and freedom which marked that period of Opatija’s history. This musical journey ends in the Open Air Theatre with a big disco party stretching long into the night.

ie Sommerfestspiele „Kastafsko kulturno leto“, die seit 1992 im Juli und August stattfinden, verwandeln die Stadt Kastav mit Theater- und Musikvorstellungen auf Crekvina, in der Kirche der heiligen Jelena und unter der Stadtloggia in einen echten multikulturellen Treffpunkt in dieser Region. Dazu gehören auch viele Ausstellungen auf Lokvina und in der Galerie der Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit. Der Naturpark UČKA DER BERG MIT DER SCHÖNSTEN AUSSICHT
N
ur eine halbe Autostunde von Opatija liegt ein wahres Juwel - der Naturpark Učka. Aufgrund seiner Lage, des Reliefs, der geologischen Struktur, des Klimas, der üppigen Waldvegetation, sowie der empfindlichen Arten in der Flora und Fauna stellt diese geschützte Bergregion eine Besonderheit dieses Teils von Istrien und Kvarner dar. Buchenwälder, große Wiesen, Klippen und Felsen sind die Heimat vieler Tierund Pflanzenarten, wie Bären und Wölfe, dann Vogelarten wie Steinadler und der größten europäische Eule, Orchideen und Schmetterlinge ... Der Naturpark Učka ist ein ideales Ziel für Outdoor-Aktivitäten. In nur wenigen Stunden können Sie über einen der vielen Wanderwege aus einem der malerischen Städtchen an der Riviera von Opatija auf die bewaldeten Hügel von Učka gelangen, bis Vojak, dem höchsten Gipfel auf 1.401 m. Vom Aussichtspunkt erstreckt sich rundherum ein 360-Grad-Panoramablick, der Ihnen den Atem rauben wird: die Halbinsel Istrien, die Inseln in der nördlichen Adria, die Berge von Gorski Kotar, Venedig und die Alpen. Innerhalb der Grenzen des Parks gibt es noch ein natürliches geomorphologisches Denkmal die Vela Draga Schlucht, geprägt von hohen Klippen und malerischen Säulen aus Kalkstein. Ein geologischer Lehrpfad führt zu diesem Ort. Der Canyon ist heute eines der beliebtesten Ziele in Kroatien für Freikletterer. Neben den Wanderwegen stehen den Besuchern 8 Radwege zur Verfügung, die den gesamten Park durchqueren und Radfahrern die Gelegenheit bieten sich mit der natürlichen Landschaft vertraut zu machen und die saubere, frische Bergluft zu genießen. Ein unumgänglicher Ort ist das malerische Dorf Mala Učka, wo Sie den traditionellen Učka Schafkäse (ÖCO Siegel) kaufen können - das Rezept und die Produktion stammen aus dem alten Rom. Ein besonderes Erlebnis ist der Ethno-Gastro-Event, die Učka-Messe, immer am ersten Sonntag im September. In guter Atmosphäre können Sie kulinarische Köstlichkeiten, wie Schafskäse, hausgemachte Schnäpse und Weine, Schinken und andere traditionelle Spezialitäten der Region genießen.

UČKA Nature Park MOUNTAIN WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VIEW
O
nly half an hour’s drive from Opatija lies a gem – the Učka Nature Park. This protected mountain region represents a specific feature of this part of Istria and Kvarner, due to its position, relief, geological structure, climate, lush forest vegetation, as well as delicate endemic species of flora and fauna. Beech forests, spacious grasslands, cliffs and rocks are home to many animal and plant species such as bears and wolves, bird species such as golden eagle and largest European owl, orchids, butterflies... Učka Nature Park is a great destination for outdoor activities. In just a few hours, one of the many hiking trails will lead you from the picturesque little towns on the Opatija Riviera over the forest-covered hills of Učka to Vojak, its highest peak at 1,401 m. From the lookout point there extends a full 360 degree panoramic view which will
leave you breathless: the Istrian Peninsula, the islands of the Northern Adriatic, the mountains of Gorski Kotar, Venice and the Alps. Within the borders of the park, there is a natural geomorphological monument – the Vela Draga canyon characterized by towering picturesque limestone columns and cliffs. There is an educational geological trail leading to this location. The canyon today is one of the most popular locations in Croatia for free climbers. Alongside the hiking trails visitors have at their disposal 8 cycling trails that cross the entire Park offering the cyclists a chance to acquaint themselves with the natural landscape and enjoy clean, fresh mountain air. An unmissable place to visit is the picturesque village of Mala Učka where you can buy traditional Učka sheep cheese (ECO labelled), the recipe and production of which date all the way to ancient Rome. The ethno-gastro event of the Učka Fair, held on the first Sunday in September, is a special experience. Here, besides the good vibrations, you can enjoy gastronomic delicacies such as sheep cheese, local brandies and wines, prosciutto and other traditional local specialities.

er Strand ist sandig mit betonierten Liegeflächen und liegt direkt im Stadtzentrum von Ičići. Für Kinder und Jugendliche ist dieser Strand besonders geeignet, da es jede Menge Platz zum Spielen gibt und der weitläufige Spielplatz nicht nur eine Kletterwand, Rutschen und Schaukeln bietet, sondern auch zwei Volleyballplätze und ein Trampolin. he Naša djeca (Our children) Association in Opatija will organize, as it always does, the summer activities for children. This programme starts on June 13th and lasts until August 31st, 2016. The activities include swimming under professional supervision, participation in various workshops such as painting and creative workshops, social games, storytelling, watching cartoons and the like, in the company of their peers. Family beach in Ičići
T
he beach in Ičići is partly sandy and partly concrete, located in the center of this little town. A special feature of the beach is the fact that it is fully adapted for children and has plenty of room to play with a spacious playground with not only the climbing wall for climbing, slides, swings, but also two pitches for volleyball and trampoline. Parasols and deck chairs can be rented on the beach, you can also get a massage or grab a cup of coffee or have a snack/lunch in many coffee bars and restaurants on the beach.
