elcome to the June issue of „Enjoy Opatija“! The month of June will be a month of diversity in our region, in order for you to experience only the highlights on your visit, we have special tips and topics created for you. The whole city of Opatija is traveling back into a retro era and becoming a retro town (p.4/5). Performances by legendary bands and local music enthusiast will take place in different parts of the city and the open-air party under a big disco ball for the ones who like to welcome the dawn - all that is what this year‘s RetrOpatija offers. Also, we visited some beaches in the area for you, read more on the Pages 12 and 13. In „Kids Corner“ (p.14) you will find the newest children info for the month of June. RetrOpatija Die legendäre Band Kojoti, das Musical Mamma Mia!, Konzerte der Queen Real Tribute Band, Musikaufführungen mit erstklassigen Bands an dutzend Standorten überall in der Stadt und eine Party im Freien bis zum Morgengrauen unter einer riesigen Diskokugel – all dies und vieles mehr bietet die diesjährige Ausgabe des RetrOpatija-Festivals. Während der vier Festivaltage macht die Stadt Opatija eine Reise zurück in die goldene Zeit der Musik; von den goldenen Zwanzigern bis zu den wilden Siebzigern und den rockigen Achtzigern.

patija – Toupieren Sie Ihre Haare, trimmen Sie Ihren Schnurrbart und stylen Sie Ihren ‚Vokuhila‘ mit Pomade. Nehmen Sie die beste Schlaghose, ein Hawaii-Hemd und ihr Rüschenkleid aus dem Kleiderschrank. Putzen Sie Ihre Tanzschuhe blank und üben Sie die Tanzschritte für „Saturday Night Fever“, denn Ende Juni und Anfang Juli kommt die verrückteste Retro-Party wieder in die Stadt. Die diesjährige RetrOpatija findet vom 28. Juni bis 1. Juli statt und wird größer als je zuvor, so lässt der städtische Tourismusverband verlauten. Für alle Nostalgiker, die auf gute alte Musik und Mode stehen, ist die RetrOpatija ein Ereignis, das man nicht versäumen sollte. Die goldene Ära der Musik, als Rockabilly, Rock‘n‘Roll, Disco und Boogie in allen Radiosendern zu hören und die lokalen Travoltas Könige der Tanzflächen waren, wird Ende Juni vier Tage lang wieder lebendig und die ganze Stadt Opatija verwandelt sich erneut in eine große Bühne. Die Fenster der Geschäfte, Restaurants und Cafés in Opatija werden im Stil bestimmter Jahrzehnte des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts dekoriert - von den goldenen Zwanzigern bis zu den wilden Siebzigern und den rockigen Achtzigern. Getanzt wird auf den Terrassen, am Hafen und an den Stränden, aber auch auf der Hauptstraße von Opatija, die am 30. Juni (Samstag) für den Verkehr gesperrt wird. Die große Retro-Party beginnt am Donnerstag dem 28. Juni mit dem Musical „Mamma Mia“ auf der Freilichtbühne. Am folgenden Tag stehen der Auftritt der legendären Rock-Band Kojoti an der Mole von Opatija und weitere Musikveranstaltungen an diversen Orten in der Stadt auf dem Programm: The Janitors am Slatina-Strand, Pacific Bullets auf der Terrasse des Hotels Kvarner, Good Rocking Daddies auf der Terrasse des Hotels Palace, und La Pasion Escondida Band im Hotel Ambasador.
Der Höhepunkt der Veranstaltung ist am Samstag, wann auf einem Dutzend Bühnen überall in der Stadt Musikaufführungen geboten werden. Auf der Freilichtbühne findet bis zum Morgengrauen unter freiem Himmel und einer riesigen Discokugel die Hauptparty statt. Vor der städtischen Markthalle treten das Kulturensemble Zora und Duško Jeličić Dule & Bonaca in ihrer Rock-Ausgabe auf, vor dem Hotel Paris spielt Xfinity, vor dem Juraj Šporer Art Pavilion sorgt DJ Bobo Grujičić für gute Musik, und vor dem Touristeninformationszentrum Opatija ruft die Queen Real Tribute Band die Magie hervor, mit der Freddie Mercury ausverkaufte Hallen und Stadien in Trance versetzte. An der Mole im Hafen von Opatija erinnert die Tribute-Band aus Opatija, ABBAzia, an eine weitere weltbekannte Band: die schwedische Erfolgsgruppe ABBA. Auf der Terrasse des Kvarner Hotels präsentieren sich die Mississippy Queen & The Star Time Playboys, auf der Terrasse des Hotels Palace ist DJ Brown Sugar für gute Musik verantwortlich, und im Hotel Ambasador spielt die Timeless Duo Band zeitlose Hits. Der Höhepunkt dieser heißen Samstagnacht ist die größte Disco-Party auf der Freilichtbühne mit DJ Miro Paušić und MC Šajeta, die um 23:00 Uhr beginnt und erst dann endet, wenn auch die ausdauerndsten Tänzer die Tanzfläche verlassen haben. Das Finale der viertägigen RetrOpatija-Party am Sonntag bringt wieder das Tanzbein zum Schwingen: an der Mole von Opatija präsentiert die SuperCover Band ihr Programm mit dem Titel „Blame it on the Boogie“ und die Dellboys Band spielt am Slatina-Strand Hits aus den sechziger, siebziger und achtziger Jahren. Am gleichen Abend treten auch die Gelato Sisters auf der Terrasse des Hotels Kvarner und die By the Way Band im Hotel Ambasador auf.

During the four days of the festival, the town will once again travel back in time to the golden era of music from the roaring twenties to the crazy seventies and rocking eighties.

patija – Comb back your hair, groom your moustache, style your ‘mullet’ with grease, take your best bell-bottoms, Hawaiian shirts and ruffle dresses out of your closet, dust off your dancing shoes, and recall your Saturday Night Fever steps, because at the end of June and beginning of July, the craziest retro-party is back in town. This year’s RetrOpatija takes place from 28 June to 1 July, and Opatija Tourist Board say that it will be bigger than ever before. This is definitely an event not to be missed for all those who love great old music and fashion. During the four festival days at the end of June and beginning of July, Opatija will turn into a stage evoking the golden era of music, when radio stations played rockabilly, rock’n’roll, disco and boogie music, and the local Travoltas were the kings of the dance floors. The town’s shop windows, restaurants and cafés will be decorated in the style of past decades from the swinging twenties to the crazy seventies and rocking eighties. There will be singing and dancing on the terraces, in the harbour, on the beaches, and also along the town’s main street, which will be closed to all traffic but open for a party on Saturday 30 June. The big retro party begins on Thursday 28 June with a performance of the musical Mamma Mia! at the Open Air Theatre, and continues the next day with a rock concert by the legendary band Kojoti on the harbour pier of Opatija, and a number of excellent bands performing at other
locations: The Janitors on Slatina Beach, Pacific Bullets on the terrace of the Kvarner Hotel, Good Rocking Daddies on the terrace of the Palace Hotel, and La Pasion Escondida in the Hotel Ambasador. The climax of the entire event will be on Saturday, when all the stages in the town combine for a unique music story that will culminate in a party until dawn at the Open Air Theatre under an open sky and large disco ball. The Zora Cultural Ensemble and Duško Jeličić Dule & Bonaca will perform in front of the town’s market hall, Xfinity in front of the Hotel Paris, and DJ Bobo Grujičić in front of the Juraj Šporer Art Pavilion. Two tribute bands will revive the magic of the legendary stadium concerts of the 70s and 80s: the Queen Real Tribute band in front of the Tourist Information Centre in Opatija, and ABBAzia – an ABBA tribute band from Opatija – on the pier in the harbour of Opatija. But that’s not all: the Mississippy Queen and The Star Time Playboys will perform on the terrace of the Kvarner Hotel, DJ Brown Sugar on the terrace of the Hotel Palace, and the band Timeless Duo in the Hotel Ambasador. The culmination of this ‘Saturday Night Fever’ will definitely be the big disco party with DJ Miro Paušić and MC Šajeta at the Open Air Theatre, which starts at 23:00 and ends when the last dancers leave the dance floor. The finale of the four-day RetrOpatija will bring visitors to the floor again with the SuperCover Band performing their ‘Blame it on the Boogie’ programme on the pier of Opatija and the Dellboys playing hits from the sixties, seventies and eighties on Slatina Beach. The same evening, there will also be concerts by Gelato Sisters on the terrace of the Kvarner Hotel and By the Way Band in the Hotel Ambasador.

König der Učka King of Učka Der Tourismusverband Ičići organisiert in Zusammenarbeit mit AD Natura Sport eine neue Freiluftveranstaltung des Königs der Učka, die am 29. September 2018 stattfinden wird. König der Učka ist ein Freizeit-Radrennen, das von Ičići vom Meeresspiegel bis zum höchsten Gipfel der Učka - Vojak führt. Die Straße von Ičići, die auf dem Meeresspiegel beginnt führt bis zum der Gipfel des Učka Berges und ist somit eine perfekte Route für Radfahre und eine Herausforderung für alle Radsport-Fans und Hill-Climbing-Liebhaber. Ob Sie ein professioneller Radfahrer, ein Amateur oder nur ein Wochenend-Krieger sind, dieser Aufstieg wird Sie nicht gleichgültig lassen, es wird Sie atemlos lassen. Um an die Spitze zu kommen, müssen Sie fest in die Pedale treten. Aber Sie werden mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht von oben und einer fantastischen Abfahrt zurück zum Meer belohnt. Das ist die Učka, unser Berg, er verlangt sehr viel, abergibt viel zurück. Der Aufstieg auf die Učka ist eine der Etappen eines großen Radrennens durch Kroatien - Tour of Croatia. 2016. Ičići Tourist Bord in cooperation with AD Natura Sport organizes new outdoor manifestation King of Učka which will be held on September 29th 2018. King of Učka is a recreational road bike race which leads from Ičići, from sea level, to the highest peak of Učka mountain - Vojak. The road from Ičići, which begins on the sea level and leads to Vojak, the peak of Ucka mountain, is the perfect cycling playground and a challenge for all cycling enthusiasts and hill climb lovers. Whether you are a professional cyclist, an amateur or just a weekend warrior, this climb will not leave you indifferent, it will leave you breathless. To get to the top you will have to squeeze the pedals very hard. But you will be rewarded with a gorgeous view from the top and a fantastic downhill back to the sea. This is Učka, our mountain, she ask a lot, but she gives a lot. That›s why we love her and we›re coming back again. The climb to Učka is one of the standard stages of a great cycling race through Croatia - Tour of Croatia. 2016. STAGE 4: Crikvenica-Ucka 2017. Dieser liegt direkt am bekannten Spazierweg Lungo Mare und ist ein Kieselstrand mit betonierten Liegeflächen. Strandutensilien wie Schirme und Liegen kann man am Strand leihen und es gibt auch eine kleine Wasserrutsche.

KIDS’ Corner Kinder haben das Recht zu spielen!
I
n jedem gut organisierten Urlaub, wo auch Kinder mitfahren, muss Spaß sein! Opatija bietet das ganze Jahr über viel Freizeitspaß für Kinder wie Spielzimmer, verschiedene Workshops und Veranstaltungen für unterschiedliche Altersgruppen. Um unseren jüngsten Gästen die Möglichkeit zu bieten, den besten Platz zum Spielen zu finden, haben die Vereinsmitglieder „Društvo naša djeca“ aus Opatija eine Spielplatzkarte entworfen und im Stadtzentrum ausgestellt, um sie für jedermann leicht zugänglich zu machen. Heute gibt es in Opatija 31 Kinderspielplätze für verschiedene Altersgruppen, von denen für die jüngsten bis zu den Spielplätzen für die etwas älteren Kinder. Alle Spielplätze befinden sich in der Nähe von Siedlungen, Parks oder Stränden. In dieser Ausgabe präsentieren wir einen Spielplatz am Strand Ičiči, gedacht für Kinder im Alter von 5-10 Jahren mit vielen Geräten wie Rutschen, Schaukeln, ein Karussell, verschiedene Dschungel-Fitnessgeräten und vielem mehr. Da der Spielplatz auf einem Betonplateau angelegt ist, haben Kinder viel Platz für Fahrrad-, Skateboard- oder Rollerfahren zur Verfügung... Suchen Sie auf der Spielplatzkarte nach Ihrem Spielplatz, nach dem, der Ihren Kindern am besten gefällt. Der Urlaub soll doch Spaß machen!

er Strand ist sandig mit betonierten Liegeflächen und liegt direkt im Stadtzentrum von Ičići. Für Kinder und Jugendliche ist dieser Strand besonders geeignet, da es jede Menge Platz zum Spielen gibt und der weitläufige Spielplatz eine Kletterwand, Rutschen und Schaukeln sowie zwei Volleyballplätze bietet.

E
very well-organized holiday, in which children are involved, must contain fun! Opatija, throughout the whole year, offers plenty of choices for children‘s entertainment such as the playrooms, various workshops and events designed for different age groups. In order to make it easy for the youngest tourists to find the best place to play, members of the „Društvo naša djeca” (“Our Children Society”) from Opatija have designed and made „The map of playgrounds“ and posted it in the city center in order to be easily accessible for everyone. Today, in the city of Opatija there are 31 children‘s playgrounds for various ages, from the youngest to the slightly older and skillful. All playgrounds are located near settlements, parks or beaches. In this issue of the magazine we present a playground on the „Ičiči“ beach which is intended for children aged 5-10 years. It includes a variety of devices for enjoying their playtime (slides, swings, carousel, various jungle gym ...). Since the court is located on a concrete plateau, children at their disposal have a large space for a ride with bike, scooter, skates ... Look for the playgrounds map and choose the one you like best. Let your holiday be fun!

he beach in Ičići is partly sandy and partly concrete, located in the center of this little town. A special feature of the beach is the fact that it is fully adapted for children and has plenty of room to play with a spacious playground with not only the climbing wall for climbing, slides, swings, but also two pitches for volleyball.
